I'm often part of a story in the games my group play. My role is the rank amateur who's army gets flattened in two or three turns every week. Its really promoting a growth mindset in how I approach games.

First stage drybrushing all finished. Ready for the flock and base coating the pool.

Undercoated and assembled. Didn't break or fall over! Success!!

I've finished the sanding and texturing on the base and the islands. I used some filler to cover the gaps and then used tree roots and branches I picked up on a stroll round the local woodland. These were glued into random holes and gaps using the hot glue gun. I then undercoated the whole thing with black and brown.

is that just a clear drying two part compound I assume? Ive been considering something similar for ice. Making a solid clear resin lump and then buffing it with some high grit fine sandpaper for a frosted effect.
As for the green tint are you thinking watered down glazes/washes or perhaps something like green crushed glass blended with your resin mix?
Yes it is. You mix it and pour it in. Hardens in a few hours. I'm going to tint it with washes and hopefully nurgles rot as well. It would probably work well for ice. You could certainly tint it with a pale blue to make it go opaque first too.

How are you planning on doing said water effects, hot glue gun or something more exotic?
I'll be using crystal resin for the top and bottom pools as it dries hard and reasonably quickly. I'm going to experiment a bit to get a greenish tint to the water for the first one. The waterfall itself will be done with Woodland scenics realistic water just squeezed down the Perspex and teased out a bit.

That list will be fine for your first event. Good luck getting it finished. Make sure that you post some pictures.

Both armies looked really nice from the pictures. Really helps to show off the battle and the storyline

The bases are definitely mixed. One can split the set with friends or if one has several armies.
i have just used one of the bases today for my stormcasts. They really frame characters nicely.
I'm not surprised. I think some of them are definitely designed with the Stormcast in mind!

Nicely done, have to say also, loving the detail on your bases.
Thank you - the bases just tie in with the Sylvaneth bases that I did so hopefully when they are on the table together they will look like both armies are fighting in the same location, especially if they have the terrain I have planned ready to go!

Thanks both! I do love the Lord of Plagues kit. Its a great base for any number of conversions.

These were fantastic. I loved playing our game with them all set up to make the mouse trap junk yard.

I find the pillar especially but all of them to a degree, draw attention away from the figure. I bought them too but am only planning on using them as objective markers.
@Oppenheimer I think you have to be careful about this with any basing. Getting the balance right and the focus is important. A lot of the time with big bases you build them up depending on the model so you can match it in terms of height and positioning. With these you need to choose the model carefully to get the best out of them.

I can't help but think that the wierd mix of themes in the base will mean it could take years to get them all used up though.
@hobgoblinclub I agree with this! I have been looking for random models to fit each base. I think that I might take the Dark Elf Sorceress that I have in the blog and put her on the big skull one. I also like the Chaos Star one for the free Slaughter Priest that came on the front of the White Dwarf. I am also in the process of rebasing my Frost Heart Pheonix models and I have a random assassin model on there that should suit one of the bases.

I can't wait to see the riders on top!
It might be a while! I've got a whole bunch of Nurgle to get through before the end of the month!

What a great collection of wizards! I've been following the work on Twitter and its great to see you with a blog here. My only comeback would be could you be bolder with your basing? Its neat and tidy, but not as impactful as the models! Hopefully you'll put up some images of the finished army from Age of Santa. Taking such a lovely army should certainly get you an awesome Paint Score from the guys down there!

I like that Conga line pose going on in the photo above! Hope that is actually from a game! Good luck guys.

Looks absolutely awesome! Love the painting and the base. Only small nickpick is the lake in the base seems to be perfectly round. It would look more realistic if it was more natural in shape.
Overall a fantastic job!
Thats a good point about the pool. I used the lid of a jar as the base which is why its so circular. Certainly something to consider next time I go for a water effects base! Cheers for the comment.

They look fantastic Steve! I love the basing, but I would say you probably didn't need to use the new bases, as the addition of snow, tufts and skulls on top pretty much conceals everything underneath
Thats a fair point! Hadn't really considered that

The colour scheme on thes guys and the freehand on the shields is just brilliant. A whole army done like this would look fantastic. Great work and I hope you continue with the idea.

Great job on those horses so far. They are really coming on nicely. Make sure that you post more pictures as the army progresses.
