  1. Don't think that would even matter tbh, it's a legit GW model, a tiny bit more height on the base and nobody can complain
  2. Played a one day tournament yesterday and achieved my first ever podium finish. Won 3/3 and bagged third place. Absolutely chuffed. New tome took away a lot of my favourite things, but got some boosts in much needed areas, particularly the resilience and damage potential of HQ units and some great battleshock immunity. My list below with summary of matches: LeadersPlague Priest on Plague Furnace(180)- Artefact: The Ragged Cloak Verminlord Corruptor (260)Verminlord Warpseer (260)- General- Trait: Master of Magic- Artefact: Ethereal Amulet Battleline40 x Plague Monks (240)- Foetid Blades40 x Plague Monks (240)- Foetid Blades20 x Plague Monks (140)- Foetid Blades20 x Plague Monks (140)- Foetid Blades10 x Plague Monks (70)- Foetid Blades10 x Plague Monks (70)- Foetid Blades10 x Plague Monks (70)- Foetid Blades10 x Plague Monks (70)- Foetid BladesBattalionsCongregation of Filth (160)Endless SpellsGeminids of Uhl-Gysh (40)Umbral Spellportal (60)Total: 2000 / 2000Extra Command Points: 1Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 197 Game 1: Border War v LoN Never played against the big guy before and it was tough. Got extremely lucky, the only Nagash spells I managed to dispel were his Umbral Spellportals, every turn. They could have facilitated horrendous damage if I hadn't. My opponent also made a mis step which allowed me to storm on to his objective for 4 points mid game. Lucky too, because he slowly gained control of a board side and I only won by two points in the end Game 2: Better Part of Valor v Dispossessed: A real grind this one. All his men were on objectives in cover, giving him 3+ rerollable saves ignoring rend. He hadn't much in the way of offence after my Corruptor used a spell portal to cast dreaded plague on his shooty unit, wiping out more than half of them. Basically threw rank after rank of plague monks at him to dislodge him off one objective, giving me the edge and the win. Game 3: Starstrike v Gloomspite Gitz Let him go first, reckoned a double turn would be extremely advantageous and was right . Used Dreaded Plague to evaporate most of his Goblins through the portal, and held on to the middle objective for a couple of turns with my dear life using the warpseer and Monks. Narrow win in the end. Very pleased with how it went, though still have to fix my list a little ahead of the WHW heats this weekend.
  3. I think he's right. Azyr makes a point of taking Plague Monks out of battleline slots if you take a Nurgle unit. Slightly mad that Nurgle can only ally with a Nurgle army if there's non Nurgle units in it but hey ho
  4. Have won both my games using the new tome so far, I think Pestilens is a better balanced faction now, even though we lost some powerful abilities (rabid fever, wither especially) It's great that our large heroes can't just get mortal wounded off the board with ease now, the Corruptor can actually handle himself in combat and the Furnace is an absolute effing beast. A shame about the Corruptor's command ability, which is mostly useless to Pestilens units. And there's no fecking way I'm painting 180 sticks to make use of it. Hitting up a one-day tournament this weekend with this list, really looking forward to seeing how well the new tome fares in a competitive setting. 5. Good stuff Aiden, looking good. I've gone off footslogging Priests altogether without wither. The mortal wound potential just isn't worth it for me, and they are no longer any help to Monks. In a one-day tournament myself this weekend, can't wait to try my new look Pestilens out in a competitive setting, have won both my games so far with the new tome
  6. Yeah, it's all good. The only people who aren't happy are the ones who don't get the Plague Monk Battleline WLC bish soup list they always wanted
  7. Well why not? Pay a tax of 360 points on 3 units of clanrats and you can take whatever the hell you want. That's better than Skaven have ever had it
  8. I reckon the rules are written exactly as intended. Encourages more pure allegiances, which is better imo
  9. The book doesn't seem to be single use, huge potential for MW spamming there imo
  10. Was pessimistic at first, a lot of good stuff taken away, especially Wither. But as you say, Furnaces are effing nonsense now and Monks got better. Will still be running 10 man blobs for screening and board control, but will up my 40 blobs up to 3 or 4 depending on the rest of the list
  11. Feckin hell man, Plague Monks just got buffed, though a bit of a hit to the MSU tactic
  12. Monks rend and contagion banner will become a natural 6 imo. But I think overall rules will remain. What do these new rules offer a 40 man Monk unit? What couldn't it kill already without this rule?
  13. I won 2/3 in my last event, and this tome drops just in time for a 1 dayer later this month. I genuinely think I can bring home the gold. I spoke to you briefly in the Whatsapp group (I'm your fan) so will hopefully see more of you there too
  14. I hope you are cutting out all that needless family, work and self improvement next week when the tome drops. I will need blogs telling me how to play good
  15. Where have you been @AIdenNicol444 Ffs?
  16. Nice, been thinking of doing the same. Really want to try out a LoB, could be incredibly strong with 40 rat plague monk blobs
  17. Thanks mate. I'll go through each question as best I can. 3 x Priests: Priests are a superb unit, especially within a Pestilens allegiance list. I think one of the main problems Skaven players encounter is their range of effect which, of course for any self-respecting rat, is 13". Because Pestilens usually go second, and there are a load of alpha strike lists out there, the tendency is to deploy them 4" or more behind your main line, which means it takes a good deal longer to get in the range of effect. I have mitigated this with the use of Night Runners. Because Night Runners can form a wall higher up the battlefield before the game starts, I can deploy Priests more or less on the front line. within 13" of objectives. Would alter this slightly if there were flying units with an exceptional charge range, but if you're using your Night Runners to shield correctly (and they can run in that pre-game move), enemy units can't deep strike anywhere near you and even flying enemy units will be at least 10-11" out of charge range. Once you do have a Priest surrounded by other rats in range to plant Wither on the enemy, it's showtime. It's a stackable prayer that segues amazingly with the Priest's one-use tome and Plague Monk Scrolls. 1 or 2 withers on a tough enemy unit, activate Plague Banner and boom, for a charging ten man unit, you have 30+ rerollable attacks, wounding on 2's or 3's (rerolling) and rending on 4's or 5's with the possibility of additional mortals. It's enough to destroy or maim most units to point of uselessness, and all that from a 70 point blob of monks and an 80 point buff. Pestilent breath is underrated too. It can hit multiple congested targets and can be very effective when spammed into single points. Why ten-man units of Plague Monks: A couple of reasons. Firstly: Simply put, 40 Plague Monks is overkill. They're one of the most brutal attacking units in the game, but pay for that by having their defence stat dialled down to zero. Once they have killed the thing they are pointed at, they are probably out on the frontline and will die. When you form your Plague monks into 40 man blobs and charge them into things, those 40 will probably get charged and die before you get their worth back. If you form them into ten man blobs, they can wipe out units that far exceed their points cost, and when they are inevitably butchered next turn, your enemy has only taken 70 of your points off the board. Which they have to do, because ten plague monks are too dangerous to let live. There is also the point of flexibility. A 40 man blob is difficult to move, especially on terrain heavy boards. 10 man blobs are more flexible and reactive, and can cordon off vital areas of the board from flying enemies and such utilising the 3" rule. I think there's a logic out there that a 20 monk blob is optimal, and I'd agree with that. I wouldn't discourage you from using 40 strong units, but I'd go with 1 or 2 at most and keep the rest small.
  18. Played a one day event today, achieved my target of 2 major wins, with a major loss in the middle. Verminlord: Think I'm going to leave him on the shelf for a while. Was my warlord, stayed alive, threw some prayers from the back but not much else. Plagueclaws: Did 3 wounds between them all tournament. Effectively a 320 point handicap. Probably won't use again Night Runners: Outstanding screening units, amazed that more Skaven lists don't have them. Their pre-game move prevents alpha strike and keeps the enemy in the middle of the board first turn, so Monks and prayer casters can deploy almost on the deployment line and not get penned in. The best 200 points you'll ever spend on a unit that dies first turn Clan Rats: Brilliant objective grabbers, won me many points. So, I'm putting the Plagueclaws down as a failed experiment. I'm trading the VL out for a Plague Furnace in future, could have definitely used another Rabid Fever. I played well overall I think, looking forward to the next one. Will keep my expectations at 2/3 games for now, but will be aiming for podium by the end of the year.
  19. Tbh, I like the lack of detail on the plague monks, makes the 180+ of them far quicker and easier to batch paint!
