  1. Ok .... Just getting into sylvaneth and trying to figure out what to buy next So far 1x tree Lord ancient 1x branchwraith 1x branchwych 29x dryads ( used one for converting...) 10 tree revenants I guess the next step would be some kurnoth hunters? More dryads? Alternatively allarielle looks really fun to paint although probably doesn't bring much until I have a bigger army. Thanks for any help
  2. I think the general consensus is that regular chariots don't add much. Compared to 5 horsemen they have less wounds and less attacks. You could consider more gorebeasts. I might also consider getting you some of your knights the Lances. Gives you a prime Target to buff on the charge and then you can switch over to the regular ones the second turn. Additionally a small objectives camper squad might also be nice
  3. I think people are suggesting the luminarch in addition the hurricanum. For example, if you dropped the archmage, the endless spells and a ballista you could afford one, for example. Still has a 6++ for your team, still has good long-range shooting and plausibly adds some more consistency, since it gets +1/+1 to its casting and dispelling. It would then be hitting on 2+, addressing your concern. Alternatively you could substitute it in for a tank. Mostly, however, I just think it is a lovely model and want excuses to suggest others field. I also think 'good chance to delete at 20 man unit in 1 turn' is a bit of an exaggeration. 2d3 MW averages 4, and someone probably wounded it quickly twice to get it down to the d6 wound shot profile, which still could miss or whatnot. Maybe averaging more like 6 wounds per turn. But its so pretty.....
  4. I really like the hurricanum model and have been wondering about this same kind of thing. Hurricanum+4x ballistas +Ordinator is 900 pts. I was thinking finishing it out with a knight-azygos, Lord castellant, Lord arcanum on something and some sequitors and judicatorss for battleline. Or drop the arcanum, change the sequitors for liberators and add 1 thing of your choice. I think with this approach you have to deepstrike the ballistas since you really want them in rapid fire range. The +2 to hit is wasted on the ling range shots. T1 you advance the hurricanum up the field as far as you can and drop the ballistas in around it. Seems worth considering but Ironically loses hard to other gunlines that get the first turn on you aan shoot down your hurricanum easily on turn 1. It seems pretty fragile with only as much defence as 5 liberators for 4 times the points
  5. The problem I can see with the war council is it's quite a lot of points. Like 1200 for the whole thing. And then you are almost guaranteed another 100 for endless spells. Doesn'tme much more room to play with, since it would be neat to try out other things as well... Seems like a cool idea and battalion limits by no battle line, as are most of the smaller order factions
  6. Commenting on the above, couldn't you take a free peoples army and then ally in 3-4 Ballistas? Would give you some artillery and still let you use the free companies? Also stormcast fit in any of the cities if you are going that route. I'm not sure if anyone has done the math but they seem stronger than more traditional cannons in a lot of ways and are a lot less vulnerable for sure. Doesn't help you with the tank question though. On a somewhat different note, I was really liking the look of some of the collegiate arcane stuff, and was considering building a list around them. Has anyone tried this out recently? I know the hurricanum has accumulated quite a few nerfs along the way. I'm mostly interested in just painting and using the models, so It doesn't necessarily need to be the most competitive list. I was thinking 380 Celestial Hurricanum 240 Luminarch of Hysh 120 Battlemage (Jade for the healing spell) 100 10x handgunners 100 10x handgunners As a core for ~940 points. Some screening, some range, hopefully to advance up the field. The goal being to keep my big guys safe for a few turns, use spells to kill off little tie up units and to pin/tank big units on something sturdy (a seige tank or pheonix, see below) In terms of finishing this out, I was thinking some combination of either Steam Tank Frostheart Pheonix 2x 5 reavers (mobility, more shooting, maybe claim an objective early) 10x Dragon Blades (advance up the field, hit hard, sturdy) 6x Demigryph Knights (redundent with the dragon blades, sturdier but hit noticeably less hard, cooler models) Loremaster (goes great with all the big models) 30x Pheonix Guard (Big and sturdy and wear buffs well) 5x Sisters of Thorn (especially great with the phoenix although seem expensive and I'd only really be taking them for their spell) More collegiate wizards (chain lightning and fireball both seem useful and go great with +1 to dispel and cast) 30 x Free peoples guard w/ swords. Some units of dryads to wall? A big block of stormcast to advance and make a wall Any thoughts on how to finish out the list? Also and unrelated, can I ally in a steam tank to keep the possibility of using one of the free cities? Hallowheart seems like the best fit, although may be redundent with the luminarch. I think these things are listed approximately in the order I'm interested in them.... I don't really like the idea of painting tooooo many models and would prefer to do a good job on a smaller number. One worry is being a bit too immobile. I don't really want to play a gunline, although I know things like the hurricanum and Luminarch tend to lend themselves best to exactly that. Also is there anything similar to skinks that would fit more thematically with human/elf appearing list? Cheap screeners seem like exactly what this list wants. Thanks for any help
  7. I had thought about a malice themed slaves army for a while. In terms of those mianitures, I had always thought a Ghoul body +Tzeentch acolyte or tazaangor head+ tyranid scything talons would make a very good impersonation of the demon of malice, so you wouldn't have to buy a whole lot of specialty miniatures. I might use them as tazaangors with blades, but they would also be reasonable bloodletters or deamonettes
