  1. My issue with noble champions is I'm not sure what I'd do model wise for them... I could take stormcast and make the heads more like medieval knights and have my noble champs as for honour style massive knights leading my force... Actually that could be kinda cool. And as for aventis firestrike, he could be pretty cool actually. Only shame is a bit pricey oof... but definitely worth considering!
  2. So I'm going to publically say that I am going to attempt to do something I've never managed before and may very well fail. I am going to try and do 1 hour of painting every day for the whole of december... I know I know... Me? Paint every day? Not just once a month? It's absolute madness! But it's important that I try because I want to get into the habit of painting for an hour every day. And it might help me catch up on the tale of warlords that I have fallen rediculously behind on. I shall try and post each day of my progress somewhere and anytime I miss days (whether due to my own forgetfulness or not being around my paints) I shall endeavour to catch up on the lost hours. Here's to dreaming of a corax white christmas And constantly getting paint on my clothes...
  3. So, a list I'm considering for when I finally get my shyish vampiric bretonnians going: Heroes: Enchantress - General - Strategic genius - Wraithbow Damsel on Peg Units: 8 x Knights Errant - Battleline 16 x Men at Arms - Battleline 5 x Grail Knights 5 x Grail Knights Spells: Chronomantic Cogs (haven't looked at many endless spells but I know this one is supposed to be good for helping get charges off) Pts: 1000/1000 The bright side of doing shyish is that if I run out of bret horses for the grail knights then dredblade harrow or black knight ones should do Also in case it interests anyone Anvil industries had their daughters of the burning rose line kickstartered earlier in the year and should be coming to their main store in the new year, basically female medieval armoured which might work for some female bret conversions. Also robed bodies for battle pilgrims (nuns). Once my kickstarter rewards arrive I shall try and get some photos to see how they match up! I'm hoping I might be able to make a nice Repanse de Lyonesse style bret lord out of one. Also if anyone has any recommendations for how I could kitbash a king on hippogriff I'd love to hear!
  4. So I am slowly being tempted into maybe possibly trying some stormcast at some point to go with my lord ordinator kitbash. But regular stormcast are icky so obviously the only right way to do it would to be to have them there simply to support MASSIVE BIG GUN CANNONS Now that all being said has anyone tried using the celestar ballista in ironweld lists? I know it's a much shorter range so may not work too well as it won't be able to be buffed by the same heroes buffing the cannons. I will get back to my ironweld properly but got kharadrons and nighthaunt to knock through first. Hoping we'll start seeing some more batreps for the big guns soon
  5. So yesterday my dastardly nighthaunt fought against my dads villainous beastmen and won a close fought victory. We played path to glory using the malign portents rules for some extra pizazz. We picked our portents at random and I ended up with the falling star which gave me some surprisingly useful save shenanigans. Gavespawn beasts can pack a punch! I'm very glad of my etheral since his doombull was capable of doing 5 damage with his axe and was really gunning for my mounted knight of shrouds. At the end of the game I had just 2 chainrasps left who valiently knocked the last 2 wounds off of his summoned bullgors. Chainrasps are a great little battleline Malign portents was a surprisingly simple and fun addon, we played the they came from below narrative mission from the book which I think was a good fun one. Lots of good shenanigans were had! Even if he kept making me charge on d6 and i kept rolling 1's and 2's... my poor dreadblade harrow barely made his charges. Unfortunately I have no photos but my list was: -1 x knight of shrouds on ethereal steed -1 x Dreadblade harrow -5 x Glaivewraith stalkers -4 x Myrnmourn Banshees -10 x Chainrasps
  6. I did some modifications to the Yncarne from 40k myself. Added a large demonette claw (from a seeker I think) some demonic stuff protruding from her etc which I think works well. Definitely has a good slaaneshy vibe. Here's the only photo I can find of her. I should try and get a better one.
  7. Considering the size of them possibly they could be a bit more of an anvil? So can be a tough (for slaanesh) roadblock unit? Either that or fast high rend monster killers as you say. I feel like slaanesh already has enough stuff to deal with horde units at least and a fair amount of -1 rend thanks to our demonettes. They could do more with the soporific musk debuff perhaps? Like make it an aura? Also better to hit and wound rolls could make a lot of difference.
  8. Skeletal battle pilgrims sounds like an odd idea XD A consideration though! I'd ideally like to keep conversions fairly cheap, especially as buying many boxes will leave me with lots of random stuff I may be unable to use. But regardless I do need some idea for grail knights ? something to set them apart from common rabble... I'll have a think about it and look through the different horsemen options. Could do them as a unit of mounted vampires possibly, though I'd like to keep the army still looking bretonnian, just with some shyishian themes. Horses I can use black knight ones to help set them apart. I'll have a proper look and think soon. Meanwhile I'll try and get some stuff built and painted looking forward to this! Also thinking a coven throne vampire on an undead unicorn might make a cracking enchantress!
  9. Ooh that's really cool. As for knights errant I technically only have knights of the realm but they're the super old ones with like mega thin lances so if I wanted to field with realm I could try and get more modern ones or something. On their own it's fine. Alas Errants also don't feel worth the 200 points though i suppose saving the 20 points can be useful, though they do prefer to have a damsel. Grail knights I planned to convert though finding unbuilt 'modern' brets is a tad hard and I only have enough for maybe 5? Also if I don't go lord reikenors pegasus can still work for the sacred protector, he's ghostly and can fly. I've always liked the lord's though, good save and damage output for a 5 wound model. And super mobile with the peg. I was thinking for grail knights doing them on skele horses to make the look different. Might need to find some different riders though, bit stuck on that one if I can't find lots of bret bits. Double enchantress is nice though, she's a brilliant spellcaster for 160 points provided you have the spell lores.
  10. So thinking a list for 1000 points: Heroes: -Valkia the bloody - 140 -Bloodsecrator - 140 - General Units: Blood Warriors (5) Goreaxe & Fist - 100 (only B-warriors I have currently) Chaos Warriors (10) Greatblades - 180 (adds in some rend, should be nice with secrator attack buff) Marauder Horsemen (5) Javelins & Shields, Damned Icon - 90 Blood Reavers (10) Reaver blades - 70 Blood Reaers (10) Rever blades - 70 Chaos Spawn - 50 Behemoth: Chaos Warshrine - 160 1000/1000 points In theory it gives me some good tough frontline, some disposable reavers to also pump out lots of attacks. Fast moving horsemen to accompany valkia or nab objectives. Hit buffs from the shrine and extra attacks from the secrator. Obviously not the most competitive of lists but looks like it could be fun in a friendly game and feels like a solid core to start learning with. Can easily drop the spawn for an extra command point in some games. Or eventually drop the spawn and replace the warriors with blood warriors for some weight of attacks.
  11. So a quick 1K list I've just put together Leaders: -Bretonnian Lord - Etheral Amulet, Legendary Fighter, Pegasus - 140 -Enchantress - 160 Troops: -8 Knights of the realm - 220 -16 Men at arms - 120 -10 Grail Knights - 360 Points: 1000/1000 Wounds: 62 Not entirely sure it would work XD And I'll have my work cut out for me trying to find a way to convert grail knights (perhaps giving them a fancy paint job or something? Also not sure I have enough bret knight models left to build, oof. Possibly kitbash them from another model base? Or scour ebay.) I'm kind of wanting to do a repanse de lyonesse style conversion at some point. An undead joan of arc for the army Thinking also Reikenor the Grimhailer's undead Pegasus could provide me a lot of fun for a lord conversion Already got one regular lord on a Pegasus but hey why not 2? I'm still upset Pegasus knights lost their pile in and attack twice ability, I struggle to see much point to them now for their cost alas Okay so I've just seen some stormcast with bretonnian heads and they look great! I now know what I'm doing if I ever start a small stormcast band... (and if I ever get enough bret heads)
  12. Heh that sounds awesome! Glad to see the brets giving the poster boys a run for their money ;) I think my main thing now is to get more brets or convert some up, the shyish theme should make that a bit easier! One thing I will ask... how useful do you find men at arms? I may have converted 10 of my 16 into zombies... (though zombie men at arms is still workable for my theme XD And don't worry I'll be sure to post up here when I get stuff made and painted.
  13. Woo bretonnian players! I'm kind of regretting not managing to pick up the enchantress and king but didn't have the money at the time. I've been considering using my brets as a blood knight force so might do them as a shyish themed force so they can aesthetically fit the look for both death and bretonnians. Personally from my looks at the old ghb1 warscroll updates grail knights look nice. The lack of attacks on regular knights is a bit of a shame for their size and points but worth playing around with to test out what works well. Perhaps this is the motivation I need to get my horsey boys out
  14. You make a very good point actually! Which means that perhaps my best bet will be looking at lots of small units of warriors and reavers and focus on getting blood tithes for summoning demons and other affects. Could still see a couple of knight units working nicely, perhaps sitting behind my warriors and then charging out once the foot guys hold something up so they can still be in buff range. The marauder horsemen (khinerai) could be good for harassing, throwing their javelins over my lines and such. Or for screening valkia whilst she goes hero hunting. But I am totally aware of how useful blood warriors attacking when they die ability is! Though I would have thought reavers work better in larger units so they can survive enough to get all their attacks in?
  15. Hey guys, I've had a lot of forays into chaos, namely with Tzeentch but also had little plays around with other gods in my quest to become the true undivided force I dream of (I do plan to eventually pick up archaon and branch into everchosen). And khorne is one army I haven't played around too much with but thanks to the wonders of the old starter set I do currently own some bloodbound! (Minus the khorgorath as I sold him to a friend a while back, though converting one up could be interesting should I decide to) I have a couple of cool conversion ideas I want to try out which I think would work best for Khorne so I'm trying to put together an idea of a list. I'd like it to include Valkia the Bloody as I quite like her and I'm thinking of converting up some Khinarae into basically being a squad of shieldmaidens flying around with her (They'd likely count as marauder horsemen with javelins as that's the only thing I can really see fitting the conversion). I already own a lot of slaves to darkness that I'm trying to paint up to be more or less undivided in scheme so I can use them a lot and would ideally like to make them the bulk of my force just to save on space. Anyway current things I have access to: -Bloodsecrator -Bloodpriest with ball and chain -Valkia the bloody (kitbash) -Mighty Lord of Khorne -5 Blood Warriors with Axe & Gorefist -20 Blood reavers with reaver blades -Khorne Lord on Juggernaut -Chaos Lord -Darkoath Warqueen -2 Demon princes (though only 1 would really work for khorne) -A variety of chaos spawn -10 Chaos Warriors with sword & shield -10 Chaos Warriors with halberd -10 Chaos Warriors with greatblades -12 chaos warriors with dual hand weapons that I'd planned on converting into more greatblade ones. -5 Chaos knights with Glaive -2 Chaos knights with Ensorcelled weapon -8 Unbuilt Chaos Knights -Warshrine (cool conversion from a friend, would love to use it) Lots of demons that my dad has including 2 bloodthirsters. One WoK and one with the big 2 handed axe. We're also both starting looking at beasts of chaos as we already had some dragon ogres and gors lying around. I'm thinking since Valkia is kinda fast that a cavalry based force might work? Going heavy on the knights with possibly some blood warriors and chaos warriors to trail behind to grab objectives? Bloodsecrator is a given for his buffs and Warshrine could be nice for the buffs it gives. Possibly get some flesh hounds to keep up with the knights and help upset wizards? Likely a unit of Wrathmongers as well for the buffs though if it's a fast force they may be of less use as may not get into position. I've fought a lot against khorne lists at my club that generally use blood warriors or reavers and rely on weight of attacks or toughness to get through. I wouldn't mind doing something a bit different than blood warrior slog :p But I'm open to ideas, our club generally ranges from more casual to semi competitive but none of us build lists that would be considered tournament level or 'meta' really.
  16. Managed to get my admiral and her doppleganger cloak painted up as well as a good start on some of my arkanaut company. Happy with my paint scheme though.
  17. A lot of greenstuff and perseverance went into making this. I'm happy with it, can't wait to get it painted. Might not be the best artifact for her but looks damn cool!
  18. How do people find frigates and gunhaulers? I know some folks just prefer ironclads at 2000 but I feel like an ironclad might not be feasible at 1000 point games or such. I mean we're all in this for the boats really so I'd love to know how they hold up. The guns do feel a bit unreliable for their points alas D: but at least frigates and ironclads get to carry happy chappies around. Still trying to get an idea of what things work well in the armies and what I want for conversion fun.
  19. Cheers for the advice. I'm thinking 1 or two. I suppose their bettee utilised with deadly skyhooks or aether saws to maximise the damage output of those rather than giving an extra shot to thunderer rifles. Makes sense. As for skyport there's a good chance I might go with a custom one as I want to give them their own backstory and paintjob etc. Though i doubt there's any hard and fast rules against taking named skyport for custom ones, like how DoK and IDK get to choose whichever fits most. That's fair tbh. I'll probably try them with saws first and see how it goes. They'll probably be used primarily for melee as our only real melee option so probably best not to split their role.
  20. So since Khemists are pretty integral how many are recommended. I don't have my book on me but they only affect one unit a turn correct? So would you want a couple (say 2 or 3) to buddy up with some skyhook arkanauts or rifle thunderers? Also having looked at endrinriggers their melee attacks do look potentially nice if khemist buffed and I will be wanting a squad of some balloon men personally. Yay or nay on giving them special rifles? I'm not personally sure if any warrant replacing the pistol and saw.
  21. Head: Stormcast easy build sequitor Body: Coven throne handmaiden Legs & sash ends: 40k Commissar Upper arms: Sister of silence (barely noticeable) Lower arms & backpack: Arkanaut Admiral Base: Shattered dominion And thanks :) I'm really excited to get started on this project. So hopefully more should be coming in the coming months!
  22. So put together a quick potential list for a 1k core to my army. Main issue being no frigate or the like so may need to tweak. List.pdf Some C&C would be very much appreciated, I am at current rather ignorant to how kharadron play these days and best ways to run them. Figured mixing guns on thunderers was bad due to range issues. I also completely forgot to set the gun on the gunhauler, oops. Probably would take drill cannon as it just seems better. Doppleganger cloak on admiral is mostly because I have a really cool conversion idea for it. But I plan to make that removable so I can also run different artifacts. The one that gives +2 attacks could also be useful for the admiral. Realm is shadow because they are my shadow pirate conversion project so that is unable to be changed. This is a very quick first draft, and as such is likely more heavy on bodies than it should be. Cool drop some stuff for a frigate? Big boats are cool after all. Though I do also like my balloon men!
  23. So decided to make a test model for my shadow pirate project I'm planning. Aka a mixed race pirate force counting as Kharadrons and being from the realm of shadow! Anyway here's wonderwall... I mean the admiral.
  24. Heh thanks. And tbh I'm tempted for 2 units of skypikes as extra ones should be easy enough to make with my conversions and also because I do like a good bit of STAB STAB STAB. Only problem will be remembering not to just charge them willy nilly into something like blood warriors because they will not survive that. Better to shoot dedicated close combat units to pieces first. I might grab the start collecting since I'm sure I can make use out of all 3 units in it, even if the gunhauler isn't considered as useful it's another mobile flying gun platform / distraction which will probably be nice. And also another ship to practice converting with ;)
  25. Hey guys, I'm planning to do a conversion project soon (mixed order race shadow pirates) and planning on rocking Kharadrons with it but I was wondering if anyone could give any tips for someone who's never tried them before? Especially some good early purchases to get a force together. Will clarify that I generally play friendly as opposed to mega competitive. I already have 1 box of arkanauts which I plan to mix up with some human and elf bits I have to make a squad. I'm thinking since they have 3 weapon options to have 3 squads each with a different maxed weapon? Aka 3 skypikes in one & 3 skyhooks in another etc. I've heard light skyhooks are generally the best choice but I was wondering if the others can also be used for fun, read a bit in the thread about skypikes being respectable with 3 of them. It will be a slow project so will probably look first at a 500 or 1k core and then start expanding from there.
