  1. Someone on twitter said BoC are the NPC army of Warhammer ugh,.. that hurts being true. Who was it? I'm still in touch with a couple of the other mods. I would guess no; very few people from the old forums are still around. I had a buddy who bitz ordered 22 chariots while working at a GW in 6th ed with the 2003 book. Another fellow bought it pretty cheap, I would be keen to see it played. On another note, AoS coach interviewed Eat_Bray_Love and he had some good points. chaff onion to peel away and don't charge. Shaggoth with Adamantine Scales and Amulet of Destiny is our tankiest hero. Making Dragon Ogres BL which are relatively harder to break and 6 cap an objective with the Shaggy well. Ugors, Gors, Bestigors give away Broken Ranks too easy (though I think 30 Bestigors has a chance outside Bravery) Non-BL chaff is great. Warhounds (some sort of triangle where 8 are sideways in a line and the last two on either end wrap around? even if you lose some they go down to 5,.. and are chaff), Raiders, Centigors are fast and able to get up there. This was probably my biggest "oh yeah,. duh" moment. Khorne DP and a Shaggoth with Hailstorm and the Redeploy command can really slow down armies from moving and charging at you. Be'lakor is also a really good addition to BoC. Doombulls and Ghorgons pair well. Also harkens back to 8th ed if you toss in a Razorgor. Grashrak is a bit more tanky with his built in Look out Sir to his unit.
  2. All good, i guess I read it differently than you asked. A couple points about AoS 3 now has been holding mid-tier and grinding is crucial more than damage dealers (granted there are drastic exceptions). If you have access to 30 infantry on 25 mm (a la duardin) that can get a couple pips saved stacked that's pretty powerful. So does a non-hero monster have that role? The Treelord is okay at it actually. 3+ save and good wound count and the ability to be healed. Can a Ghorgon also do that? no. Cities of Sigmar heightens the non-hero monster isn't a good cause the Phoenix is SO much better with an Annointed. Regarding non-hero monsters, Battlemages are quite good again, the Sorceress is, as is the Warsong Revenant and Nomad Prince. I think there are lots of non-monster heroes that also help. However yeah the Shaggoth is the better choice in the Beasts of Chaos list, granted a Bray-Shaman is also mandatory as it brings some good benefits for chaff. Generally sweeping blankets statements fail because of the lack of absolution. An Assassin popping up to be a distraction is better than a single chariot. Especially if it can hide and achieve 1-2 battle tactics. A freeguild footwalking general, can have +2 to his save (all out defense, that hero +1 save) and mystic shield. If you want him to get on an objective for that one misssion and hold it, he sounds okay. An Annointed on foot will take 20 wounds to take him out. I would say if you're coming from a 40k background, and want to get into this game, be prepared for a significant shift in army building as well as game-play. So significant the change from AoS 2 to AoS 3 has drastically changed the meta, field, army building and tournament scene for months.
  3. AoS Coach just posted a podcast (I think it's on youtube also?) where he interviews a Living City player using Alarielle. He has good points about Cities of Sigmar and Sylvaneth, etc. Worth a listen.
  4. Sure I agree with these points. And they're all good and valid and I support them being expressed. In the past, I think 5th edition 40k a friend built a Space Wolf army with alternative models (at the time there was no Thunderwolf cavalry offering and even the wolves were from a 3rd ed campaign book?). He based everything small, like wolves on 25 mm, thunderwolves on 40 mm. Looking now after GW finally released the models it was pretty janky. He also was the master of Rhino usage to block LoS and snake these models through. We all kinda knew him as a player who played armies when broken and people called him on it all the time. There were even photos of wolves on 40mm instead of the 25 he had done. At the end of the day,.. it was a game, passing in time, we knew he was being a ****** and it didn't stop. I still went home after gaming and woke up the next day and went to my job. It annoyed me at the time and I look back and chuckle at how much a hypocrite the guy was but also lauded by the local manager as a gift from heaven for his gaming skill. What are you going to do? I told him "that's pretty gamey, explained why with some evidence I dug up and rational, even another local top tournament player made the comment what he was doing was pretty lame." And I found other opponents.
  5. Same. Or maybe i just keep hoping he isn't. Cannot stack to -2 to hit can you? Well if you had any synergy or army cohesion throw it out the window and your 4+ to hit will feel like a 6+ when you roll bad. I've played Warherd all editions of AoS and only with wound-count were they good. I mean,.. they weren't terrible just before AoS 2 came out just not great. I've been mulling them over more and more cause I miss mine. To start I feel MW output is the place to go, meaning,. I worry we use dual Hand Axes. Whilst they used to be rend kings with their great axes, with save-stacking that could get nullified (even with the Herdstone and a couple buff spells). Also I would focus on making sure when they charge you get MWs off, so any traits or items in the BoC Battletome as well as ensuring you get some with the units (and roar from the ghorgon). I have 3 Ghorgons (could proxy a Cygor as a Ghorgon too) and 3 Doombulls, and about 24 Bullgors... I pine for the days of MSU where it worked so maybe starting there? I dunno,... I really don't. I'm good with Sylvaneth and CoS but not BoC these days. Not at all. So my thoughts are reflections of facing them or what I've faced with them. My other armies are Sylvaneth and Wanderers (i.e no ward saves), so how prevalent are Ward Saves in the game?
  6. This is the core of a good Gnarlroot army. Just FYI. I know because I just used Alarielle, Durthu, Ancient, Drycha, uh,.. 3x5 Trevs and did very well.
  7. It sounds like you are also weighing in VERY heavily stressing the point "bretonnia is gone and i'm triple mad about it." I feel for ya, I've lost a lot of my Wood Elves but I've found units to proxy/counts-as them. So far there isn't anything in my collection I cannot or have not used as something themed. If I owned a Bretonnian army I would buy Flesh Eaters Court, find out which models were close and convert them up with some ghoul heads and arms. If you don't want to do that buy Cities of Sigmar and figure out what works there. There are lots of people who've played Warhammer Fantasy for years/decades and have been through the ups and downs and made it work.
  8. I faced a dragon on a 50 mm square last edition. it wasn't a tournament Shrugs. I'm an adult*; not an actual problem unless your opponent is being gamey about it. *I know this comes across as trite and snide but,.. it's a game. If you don't play tournaments rarely do issues come up when playing people you enjoy playing.
  9. Yeah but I don't target stuff with a 4+ save with Bow Hunters that I'm expecting to see a 3+ all out defence on. Alarielle will crack those after i sever the head so to speak. if there are a couple mages with 1-2 wounds left after spell portal teleports something then I can split fire to clean up.
  10. I agree but we haven't seen much of the model pre se. And GW can move away from that cracked lava if they want. But valid point.
  11. Could be Khaine amulet. My guess too Avatar. There is a previous Rumour Engine wiht a bloody hand with curved spikes that looks very close to the Avatar also. It would pair with this for a plastic Avatar. GW is mostly likely looking for Eldar to be Aspect-themed now (having had a good run on ghost in the shell dudes) and replace more of their aging aspect range. And what's better than pairing up a new plastic avatar to replace what I assume is a finecast (yeah yeah FW I own one, but that's not core codex) model from what,.. 1992 ish?
  12. I've been wondering about that "rend stacking". Relying on spells with no buff seems like a huge gamble. So reliably I would think Bullgors and the Herdstone to be the best bet. Magic is really strong this edition and more things are getting more buffs I've played my Sylvaneth twice and CoS once and both time I noticed between Throne, buffs (Ghur mage is +3 on an Endless Spell) that not having our old "mage council" form 8th ed is something that hurts. If we could choose to sacrifice an ungor, get that much for summoning AND get a bonus to cast from the D3 that would be helpful. Also even if BoC can get to -4, I rarely throw a Durthu or Alarielle at my opponent without +3 on my save pool (Mystic, All out Defence, Ghost tree spell thingy) if I'm worried about taking wounds. So suddenly at best the BoC are getting my save down to 4+ on either. Effective but not as threatening? I've been wondering about Chariots as well. Ambush, rr charges, and 4+ save. If you can get a Mystic Shield of on a unit of them it would be something to chip away at. Ghorgons are subjective to dice spiking. I've found they do 1-3 wounds or 20+. I love them but they are just,.. a lot like a 40k ORk thing. nothing a couple turns, okay a couple turns, super brutal one turn that jades my opponent forever. This was mentioned in the Slaanesh thread, but I'm assuming someone hinted it in the Rumour Thread that Oct/Nov are a new BoC book? Can anyone confirm they have seen this rumour elsewhere than the Slaanesh thread? haha.
  13. Oh sorry, haha I meant I also have played a 30-SotW CoS list and it was,.. brutal. They point and click remove something reliably every turn. Bow Hunters don't. So like Alarielle it's a bit of all sorts of things that add up for them. Obviously you don't aim them at something with a save and save stacks on it. Irondrakes are better in CoS. As much as there was this feeling of synergy between Sylvaneth and Living City it never seemed to materialize in an incredibly useful format. I have 6 Bow Hunters (I admit I bought 3 in AoS 1 then 3 more recently) but my 6/6 Sword/Sycthes are old Treekin on 50mm bases with KH weapons and bitz to bulk them up. So I've been through enough long ago to have things on hand. Surely your opponents must be okay with counts-as? My opponent joked I could use a coke can as an endless spell for all he cared.
  14. TBH given the benefits of Gors of Ungors with the small points spread I'm surprised to see Ungors on the table in any game these days. Also I'm interested to hear how Bestigors go for you. I want to know how they (even in 30-block) perform these days. Paying for -1 Rend is an unseen tax punishment.
  15. What about Drukhari Razorwings? Have you looked through the website? What about alternatives? You are looking for a flying (maybe swarm) of animal-like based 40mm bases. Try thinking outside the box too. Like old Warhawk Riders to count as one? Especially if you have a Wanderer based army. If not, think about things like that. What would fill some space on a 40mm base that checks the boxes an opponent would expect to be reasonable.
  16. Goonhammer at the start of 9th ed 40k decried Orks as terrible,... then Orks went on to dominate the tournament scene for months if not nearly a year? I don't follow 40k that closely but I play Orks. Goonhammer is like,.. some sort of Stocks/Dr Oz tv show where strong comments drive clicks more than thorough thoughtful articles. They've been,.. okay at best commenting on AoS. And in 40k a lot derives from fast article turnaround about tournaments results.
  17. They probably were in the past. Not now, new game, new rules, big shifts, play games to find out (otherwise we're just blathering on the internet). It took two games for me to realize Alarielle is REALLY good right now. I would argue other than upon AoS 1(2?) book release she has not been this good. Bow Hunters provide a fair bit of things in game for me. a) Range pairing with Alarielle. It's a solid threat. b) Defensive range (objectives) C) Garrison buildings D) all out attack & Gnarlroot rr 1s. (rr 1s is very underated in a game where you often roll two 1s out of 3 attacks it seems) E) protect your Warsong Revenant. F) 6 gives you some decent damage amortizing out rolls. The point is to identify threats and deal with them over the game, not expect them to dominate a single round. I would take 30 Sisters of the Watch if i wanted that.
  18. What?!?!!!? amazing if true. But would be on par with their previous release and possibly GW is looking cyclicly with battletomes. I believe the Tzaangor warscroll was different from the already released Tzeentch warscroll/book? I think hoping for a re-write is pretty dismal and rare at this point. While I agree it should be done, I'm not sure GW will bother. I bet Glutos and Synessa is selling well enough they are not too concerned at the moment.
  19. This is the internet. We prove time and time again people jump to conclusions and get very vocal. I'm not subscribing but,.. i don't have time, nor am i interested in much of it. I would rather paint or spend time with my family or play a musical instrument in spare time. I feel my household already has too many subscriptions but i'm not the boss 😉 However I don't think negatively towards it, that would be irrational. I don't care about hot rod car culture but I drive a car. I can make use or be part of something in one manner and leave other facets without it being an issue
  20. Thank you for sharing your opinion. It's good people have the ability to share it on a public forum. However,.. GW produces for things that sell. If you want AoS content, pay for AoS content when it's provided (such as short stories or novels about your favourite army. Disney+ was pretty abysmal on launch, it is pretty great now. I wonder what Netflix was like when it first came out. My guess is,.. bad. Your opinion feels like,.. a personal reflection of feeling dismissed by GW. If people leave Warhammer+ over time GW will pay attention then. I watched that first old Bale eye and was pleasantly impressed by it.
  21. I used Yndrasta in my Living City a week ago and she shined. Good warscroll.
  22. I've noticed units are either small, or big and hard to kill (for example either replenishing ghouls, or 30 Ironbreakers). So if you take bulls you won't be throwing them at anything big. Meaning,.. 3 isn't utterly useless. Someone in the Slaanesh thread is taking 2x3 bulls as Coalition to replace his Hellstriders. I think Acquiescence, or some form allows rr 1s vs an enemy (as opposed to friendly Hedonite) so with a 3+ to hit and rr 1s you have a decent chance to hurt something like 5 Drakespawn Knights.
  23. I just tried the mathmallow list today (similar ish) Alarielle, 6 Bow Hunters, Warsong revenent (plus chaff?) was scary and dominating at the casual level. I was pleasantly surprised how well Alarielle works now.
  24. PM me with Discord details or ,.. whatever you need? Thanks kindly.
  25. What are you hoping for from the Bullgors? I had been wondering if Warherd (I ran it in AoS 1) was viable in any manner given access to upwards of -5 Rend but that's within BoC. I was pleasantly surprised to see them included in an army. Also I've been going back through the pages, not sure I went back far enough or maybe it was missed but on the Honest Wargamer someone went 5-0 with this list on the weekend. Don't quote me, I couldn't find the list myself so this was just what Rob said : Godseekers Sigvald Synessa Epitome (general) 22 Blissbarb archers 22 Blissbarb archers 2 x 5 Slickblade Seekers 2 x 1 Seeker Chariots Then I'm pretty sure he said also regular Seekers. Having just run 30 Sisters of the Watch (granted.. mmmm perhaps better? hard to say) I can see the damage archers can do in this game, particularly garrisoned. Did i miss you guys talk about this list already?
