  1. The Warboss on Wyvern with Ethereal Amulet was quite the dude for a brief moment there! I also grabbed a podium with his little cousin, the Warboss on Boar carrying a Waaagh! banner 🙂
  2. Yeah Skullshards is basically my own 3rd pick. If I'm running two Frostlords I'll usually take Alvagr, if I've only got one (and the second artefact needs to go on a Huskard) then I'll take Skullshards, because Alvagr is a lot less impactful on a 4+ save. This is my current Boulderhead list (with Alvagr): And Bloodgullets (with Skullshards): They're both strong and fun to run, but I do think the Boulderhead list is probably the stronger of the two tbh.
  3. Yeah the new Trogg stuff is great fun! Really solid rules, it helps a lot. I do miss Mighty Blow, but eh it still helps.
  4. Further to @Dankboss's reply, you can see the full list here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/nzMn8tlOdmZ7E7lY.pdf It's very clear that they are Matched Play legal. And FWIW, the Spiderfang WD rules are in and of themselves really good, but the army is still a house built on sand because Spider Riders are irredeemably awful at 100 points for 5.
  5. I did a write up on Kraggy: https://plasticcraic.blog/2021/05/05/broken-realms-kragnos-reveal-hot-takes-and-wild-predictions/ I'm honestly not sure how well he'll work in Mawtribes specifically, def hoping he's got more to offer than a +1 Bravery bubble though! My guess (and it's just a guess) is that you'll be better off running him in "Kragnos's Not Waaagh" with its own Allegiance kit, if BR delivers that. If he's about 600 points, his warscroll would need to be pretty special to make the total package stronger than a double-Frostlord Eurlbad. The exception is if they go Full Archaon and give him all the keywords - if he get Mawtribes and Beastclaw Raiders, then he's interesting. But quality of life in Destruction tends not to be that high, so I'm not getting my hopes up too much! Also, have you tried Alvagr Rune Tokens? I've found them almost as good as Ethereal. I normally run one Murderhorn and one Alvagr Crunchorn, works really well.
  6. I really like that @Warbossironteef I don't know if it's an improvement or a sidestep, but I'd personally take 20 Gnoblars and a triumph bid over the unit of 6 Frost Sabres. I really value chaff screens highly, and it give you a triumph bid. You still fulfil a minimum Skal. I'd value protecting your key units over fighting with the 6 cats personally.
  7. Good news, you can fit 80 Gnoblars 🙂
  8. He's absolutely awful. Complete waste of a warscroll.
  9. Super excited to see what we get! I'm hoping it's more than just a reprint of the WD rules.
  10. Yeah that's what I've found with Ironsunz too, they can have a surprising amount of game against meta armies. I've recently took the scalps of DOK (BR shooty snakes), Seraphon (Fangs of Sotek), Tzeentch (Changehost) and also Fyreslayers (Hermdar LOTL) and Mawtribes (Eurlbad), all piloted by good competitive players. In fairness I've also lost to Seraphon, FS and DOK with them, but I always feel like you can at least engineer a situation where you have a real chance even against S-Tier armies. Ironsunz have a cheeky little spot in the meta atm and they're crazy fun to play. I don't use the countercharge as much as I thought I would, but even just the fact that it exists is super powerful. That and moving on your opponent's turn (in response to shooting or magic output) keeps you engaged right the way through. Looking forward to seeing what you and @Rhellion come up with, I've been running a pretty standard Ironfist and tbh I've never got bored in 30+ games.
  11. @Golub87 Thanks for posting perhaps the most thoughtful and insightful reply I've seen on this (or any) internet forum. Bravo!
  12. Great write-up Erik! Thanks for posting that. Unfortunately not, it's still the same spell so you can only cast it once. It just gives a different unit access to it. My own 2 cents is that I'd rather take a 4th Wardokk and get an extra lore spell (Gorkamorka's Warcry) and dance. The 12" bubbles can be hard to cover so more is better, and they fit in the Battalion too. Sounds like you enjoyed running them! Bonegrinz could have a bit of play with some meta armies (DOK and LRL) leaning on their retreats, so it's something that interests me currently. Bravo!
  13. I've got my eye on this one from Mierce, half price at the moment: https://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_hnb_dkl_byz_var_wld_202_000 It comes on a 100mm base so it might be a bit lost on the 160mm that a Maw Krusha requires, but I can't really vouch for that having never seen one in the flesh. Mierce resin is generally really good though - I've bought a few pieces from them over the years. If you wanted something way out of leftfield, there's also this: https://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_hmo_dkl_byz_var_mbs_701_000 Or even this, being led on a chain: https://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_hmo_dkl_jut_cnt_mbs_801_000 If you search for "Half price" on their site you'll see all the monsters that are on offer, including some more classic dragony type things.
  14. The other option would be to play Da Choppas, which is a Warclan that very much leans into Ardboyz in the fluff.
  15. One question, would you consider running this in Bonegrinz? I really love the idea of a Maniak Weirdnob with 4+ rerollable after save, that your opponent can't retreat from! You are giving up a bit too though, particularly the 8" pregame move:
  16. The biggest downside I see to making Skraggy your General in Jaws is that you cannot recycle Squigs through the Shrine. So you'd probably want some Grots in there, or just live without the summoning.
  17. Thanks for the batreps @Boggler, I enjoyed reading them!
  18. There was still the kernel of an important point in there. You can totally run Thundrik as a generic Khemist if you want - I don't think anyone disagrees on that. He is very similar aesthetically to the point of being pretty much a repose, so nobody would be in any doubt as to what it is. So your choice (in AUD terms) is either buy a Khemist for $40, or buy a Khemist for $40 and get a heap of extra cool and useful models for free. It's not hard to see why this causes a minor headache for GW. They want and need rules overlap to bring people across from one system to another, hence Underworlds Warbands get AOS rules. But where their different game systems have different price points, in this case Underworlds being cheaper than AOS for models that are of at least the same quality, that creates a pricing conflict and can undermine (to a small extent) the pricing strategy in the core game. I'm not sure that making the boxed game rules underwhelming completely solves that, because as noted above even if Thundrik was totally unusable you could still run him as a Khemist, but as a broad strategy it could at least help in situations where there is no direct analogue for the boxed set models. i.e. The fewer incentives for the large cohort of people already invested in the higher-price-point system to flood their armies with models from the lower-price-point system, the better for GW. Either way I tend to agree with the comments in here saying that it's happened too many times to be anything other than a conscious choice. Although FWIW there are still some interesting nuggets out there in the Underworlds and Warcry warbands (and even the KO dude in CC).
  19. So he can already cast it twice due to his Warscroll: casts it once normally, then once more with the Brutal Power ability. The Battalion allows him to use Brutal Power ability twice, so three times in total (1x normal then 2x Brutal Power, thanks to the Battalion).
  20. Sadly not, the only spell you can cast multiple times is Green Puke, and even then only because it specifically tells you that you can. It's not telling you that you get to cast all the others twice - you get to cast all the others as normal, and Green Puke twice. It can still be quite a fun combo, especially with a Balewind to extend the range on your Puke. Balewind gives him an extra cast too. So he can put up the Balewind, teleport himself on it to wherever the Ardboyz are at, then cast Green Puke, then cast Green Puke twice more at the end of the Hero Phase. So 3x Green Pukes all with extended range. I've not done it, but it could be quite a fun combo to try out.
  21. Yeah you totally can, I've pulled something similar many times using 6x Pigs and an Ironfist Battalion move.
  22. I've got an article on this that you might find interesting, it skews Destruction but all four GAs are represented: https://plasticcraic.blog/2020/05/22/matched-play-at-1000-points/
  23. That's awesome! Glad you had a good game, and are enjoying the rules.
  24. Would you be using the Maw Krusha warscroll? If so, I think people will expect it to be on the big 160mm base, which the Mangler might be lost on - you'd probably need to do something to make it look good on there (bouncing off a rock or something?). If you're talking about a custom warscroll for casual games, go for your life! Either way, I'm keen to see how the conversion turns out 👍 Also FWIW, I think the mods prefer new threads over necros in general.
