  1. My local games clubs often run "fun nights" for both 40K and AoS and some members are also talking about starting a Path to Glory campaign too. I've just started collecting Slaves to Darkness and am relatively new to playing AoS too...I just wanted to know if people think the Warshrine is a useful addition at lower points levels (600 - 800?)
  2. Hi All I was wondering if any of you that feature the MawKrusha in your AoS forces use an alternative model? I'm not really a fan of the GW one...it's ok I suppose...but I was wondering if there are alternatives people use?
  3. The aesthetics of "look" of all of them appeal, but playstyle wise Ironjawz will deffo be the way to go. Keen to try out undead but that's mainly a "like the look of the models" thing, which playing-wise I might put on hold for now. Ditto Stormcast. Thanks for the advice all!
  4. If I still had some of the models I had years ago (Would love my mostly metal Perry twins Empire army back again!!) thats a good shout, but as per my post I only have Ironjawz, Stormcast and Legions of Nagash. The Aesthetics of all of them excite me, so I will paint all of it up. I just wanted something straightforward to help the gameplay flow a little better initially ...so that answers that, and backs up what I thought. Thanks for the advice! I'll play all 3 in time, but Ironjawz whilst learning!
  5. Hi all "Born again noob? WTF is he talking about?" I hear you all ask. Well, WHFB was always a fave of mine but downed tools on it circa 5th ed and have been distracted by 40K and other games since. Have tried AoS and my 12 yr old daughter is interested too. We bought an intro set and have had a few intro games and several games of kitchen table hammer, but an upcoming "Slow Grow" campaign that several local gaming buds are taking part in presents a great opportunity to really get to grips with it. I have a small Orruk collection that's now distinctly Ironjawz flavoured, my daughters Stormcast that we both contribute towards the painting and modelling effort of, and some undead. The undead, after wading through fluff on how undead work now and with some advice from peeps on here, is a Legions of Nagash force...probably Legion of Night or something. My question (and thus the request for advice as per the title of this topic) is this: Ironjawz, Stromcast or Legion of Nagash - what presents a more straightforward learning curve for someone not currently v familiar with rules beyond a basic knowledge of the framework?
  6. Welcome back. I'm sort of new myself...having come back to fantasy from 40K recently...and as I don't play v often these days I never know rules v well! Only over in Bristol too so not far away. Do you play at the GW games night in bath? I used to pop in occasionally when I worked in Bath..
  7. Greetings from Bristol (well, commuter village just outside of) in the UK. I leapt staight into a thread on the Death forum but thought I ought to come here too. Been playing GW games since the early 90s (I'm old!) when my faves were BB and WHFB. Started getting back into AoS a while back as WHFB had been a fave of mine back in the day, but I'd become distracted by 40K for years. Still consider myself a bit of a noob as bar a few intro games and some "kitchen table hammer" with my daughter, haven't played much, yet. Have got Stormcast, a growing undead collection, and the remnants of my old Orc & Goblin army slowly being modernised into Ironjawz. Forums started gathering a rep as "old hat" amongst some, who seemed to prefer FB group pages etc, but I like them. I hope to keep using this one! See y'all around...
  8. Is there a huge difference between say Soulblight and say Legion of Blood or Legion of Night?
  9. Someone else recommended FEC to me recently, but from a gameplay perspective. I like some of the fluff and the theoryhammer of what some of their units are capable of, but for me wargaming has always been a visual hobby (not that winning isn't enjoyable!). Thus, I'm always going to veer towards models I like. I like the basic skeleton warriors models, a lot of the NH infantry, Hexwraiths / Black Knights, coven thrones, Vargeists...the list goes on. And, of course, Vampires! As I said, I had a Von Carstein list back in 5th / 6th ed WHFB. Thus, I think (after a bit of thought), some vampire-centric sub faction of Legions of Nagash will be where I land. I was just wondering what the perceived wisdom was hereabouts, in terms of a compromise between aesthetics and gameplay.
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions Overread. That's pretty much it...I do love the core infantry, and I do love it all / the majority (as a visual thing). The only stuff I'm not so keen on are the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Aesthetically they just don't speak to me. I am deffo going to look at Legions of Nagash...and a few of the sub faction s speak to me a little more. I like the idea of a Vampire-lead force. "Back in the Day", I ran a Von Carstein VC list...mostly infantry. I saw it as some Lord of the Manor type (albeit undead!) raising his minions to go to war! I'm leaning towards Legion of Night, Legion of Blood or Soulblight. For now, at lower points levels early in the slow grow campaign, whatever is the least rules intensive! I recently lost a game of 40K ONLY because I forgot some of the rules my army has!
  11. I should add, I like the cross-section of death stuff...not just Nighthaunt for example...thus the confusion! Any suggestions for a noob most appreciated!
  12. Hi All! A "slow grow" campaign is starting amongst a local gaming group that I'm looking to take part in. Having been a WHFB player back in the 90's, I've not played fantasy for ages apart from a few intro AoS games and playing across the kitchen table with my daughter. Death is one of several armies I'm considering...but I'm not sure which faction to chose. I love all the models, but am confused by choice of army list. A nice problem to have I suppose! As a guide (or sorts), I'm looking for something as noob(ish) friendly as possible, fair bit of infantry, scope to learn and grow.
