  1. How do you transport the pinned models? They wont stand right, and if you lie them sideways theyll just roll around and destroy everything? I have the same battlefoam magnaracks you have, so good to see it can work here.
  2. Im using primal horizon, which dont provide an N rating but appear to be commonly used for miniatures. I’m wary of foam from experiences of dark eldar bits getting caught in the past, lol. When u say warrior are you referencing witches?
  3. Guys, what transportation options do you use for your shrines/cauldrons? They are so tall, I’m thinking of keeping the avatar magnetized. The problem is that the Avatar is also very top heavy, and was prone to falling off even with 2 rare earth magnets on his feet. In a perfect world I would just glue him on, but then the whole shebang becomes unwieldy to transport! I want to see what you do!
  4. Those are like, next level european/spanish competition level paint jobs. They look stunning, but sometimes it becomes hard to see what the models look like without that level of skill 🤣 I find the GW in house paintjobs usually to be a more fair representation of what things will look like painted 😆
  5. We would be enemies, you and I! But a more complete answer - I find that TMM relies heavily on lighting to look good (even if you are layering the metallics with shades.) I do enjoy TMM although I like the punchiness you can control with NMM. Also I like the specific fantasy feeling it evokes - I stick with TMM in my Horus Heresy models, and use that with weathering, etc. Now in my mind, the one hobby thing I dislike is edge highlighting without respect for the direction of ambient light or material 😄
  6. Woah woah woah... you dont mean non metallic metal there do you? What could anyone have against NMM? Wouldn’t it be great if someone painted a full NMM mega? Mmmmm the amount of irony there to stick in the faces of stormcast players... 🤣🤣🤣
  7. Painted a face this morning, and was happy to have gotten it to an OK spot after a tricky start where I realized too late that I needed to switch brushes (the point on the old one wasn’t really holding up so great.) I’ve noticed recently that its hard to keep my colors consistent, so I’m going to try to set out at least a log of the paints I am using over time so I don’t deviate too much unintentionally. For the skin, I need A black primer GW Flayed one GW Pallid Wych Titanium white GW Reikland flesh GW Evil Sunz GW Caledor sky GW Abaddon black The gold is GW Doombull brown Vallejo green brown GW Flayed one Titanium white GW Yriel yellow GW Warpstone glow Scale75 Eldandil violet I need to figure out what the hell is in the blue next.
  8. Looking forward to seeing these handsome bois painted! Your conversion skills and taste in models is impeccable!
  9. Been busy with work of late and have little to show for hobby. Painted another witch elf, and undercoated 5 more, alongside 2 khinerai. Also assembled Morgwaeth's blade coven and filled gaps, but that was from earlier in last month. I ended up not freehanding a banner and just left it blank for now... Hope to paint abit more this weekend and next week - I feel oddly motivated to practice faces next, given how much frustration they've given me previously. My recent bout of sickness seems to be passing, and the idea of squinting hard in artificial lighting with my tongue out and my brush head vibrating erratically seems perversely titillating.
  10. If there are Asrai, and I like the models, I can live with square bases and such. Flanking and facing and a chunky ruleset I can appreciate, as long as the models are fun to paint.
  11. I shall paint 2 witch aelves to completion. Anything on top of that is just a bonus, but likely also will: Finish another Khinerai, Layer in undercoats on a bunch of Daughters of Khaine now that I’m nearing the end of my current batch. Maybe get a start on a character... Morgwaeth or a Medusa is looking like a fun switch up.
  12. Although, with the new boxed set on the way, I’m betting the new melusai ironshard wll unlock snakes for battleline, while also offering relevant buffs. We may also get rules updates with the new campaign book. (And watch as they get invalidated in a year with 3.0)
  13. I hope they place rounds in squares so that the miniatures are compatible between systems. Also allows for fun basing opportunities! I think it’s unlikely to come with the initial release, but I would love to get wood elves in this system one day, with modern sculpts, but a classical fantasy theme.
  14. Over the last week or so I finished the khinerai and another witch elf, and updated the bases on the witch elves. Pretty pleased with progress on the army, this brings me up to 3 witch elves and 2 khinerai 😆 I I’ve simplified the nmm gold abit, or perhaps just gotten used to the colors. The base of it is reddish brown and greenish brown, with more reddish brown in the shadows, as well as some purple and green to make a color close to dark dark brown. Then I paint the lights with flayed one flesh up to titanium white, and glaze a little bit of yriel yellow until I’m satisfied. There’s probably a simpler way to do this, I just worked with what I had lol. Going to paint some more witches next. I’ve got a banner girl on the table and am thinking about trying out freehand on her banner to keep things fresh. In my head I’m envisioning a golden serpent on a red field, but we’ll see...
  15. I would argue that the word evil has no place here. Evil is a judgment given in the context of another set of values, and has no meaning in the philosophies of these other value paradigms. From a khornate worldview, there is righteousness and strength on one end, and weakness and corruption on the other. Having a third axis of “evil” is absurd - for what is evil other than weakness and corruption? In a fantasy world, where our practical 21st century morality is irrelevant, why should we view the myriad other value systems from behind the lens of good and evil (whatever that might mean to the reader?) Free your mind, and embrace the fluidity of meanings and values that is... ... Chaos. Nothing else makes sense. 🤣
  16. Ye, although this does mean we have less flexibility just swapping in the models, which I really like, into our battleline if we arent running the named warscroll. I agree. I think if we are worried about it being a nerf they could always update the warscroll to buff us in a different way. Also... isnt Morgwaeth herself also on the wrong base size? Or are hags supposed to be on 28mm?
  17. My last few sessions covered her face, crown and shield. I fiddled with the crown quite a bit and ended up going with a good friend’s advice in the end in placing the lights. I think the face is still the weakest part, although the shield could use more love too. I may not make any changes and just call these parts done for now. Painting the face is just frustrating because I cant actually see where the eyelids are... I definitely need new glasses... Next up is probably some chillaxation with paynes gray oil paint in her hair and then hilighting that up to white. Maybe I will airbrush the wings this time to see if I can get a smoother finish (the first khinerais wings are a lesson in that respect.)
  18. Given that I avidly follow the Heresy series from Forgeworld, which is basically a 130 USD campaign book every 2 years, I would say, yes - if it was good. Alas, I think “good” means many things to many people even in our niche hobby, so to elaborate: A thick tome of lore, written from a mature standpoint (not just “he did this, so they did that, then something happened” which the current battletomes read as.) The lore has to explore fascinating characters, motivations, morality. You cant explore morality if its just “our guys versus their guys” thats just power rangers with a different set of names. You cant have real attachment to characters if there is no tragedy. Its also very hard to have any mystery when the books are written with an omniscient narrator. I get that the entry level products need to be read by 12 year olds, but I don’t think campaign books are an entry level part of the hobby because you need to already be pretty invested in models and base rules, at which point you probably arent 12 (or maybe kids these days got the moneys, I could be wrong) Beautiful art - like, actually well done sketches and lavish color plates with accompanying text. I think some of the art in battletomes is pretty run of the mill in terms of quality - looks ok if you squint. I am happy to pay a premium but I want to do so for something Frazetta-esque. Long term support - the Heresy rules change fairly slowly and they only put out 1 book every few years. I don’t feel like they are just churning out quick money grabs. Theres alot of community engagement and its reflected in designer commntary and how they adjust rules and stats based on feedback. Units get updated profiles and they put out beta rules to test the waters. The answer to something being over represented in events isnt just a points bump or drop - they adjust the actual rules!
  19. Also consider using water miscible oil paints. Burnt sienna and paynes grey are useful for a dirty effect, as is lamp black. The advantage of oils over an acrylic wash is the ability to remove it during its setting time, which also allows you to easily avoid tidemarks. They also have a natural lustre and are extremely wear resistant once dry (varnish optional) There are many tutorials for applying oils to miniatures out there to check out! My experience is that they are more laid back because you can easily fix mistakes, and you can use alot of relaxed techniques with washes, cotton bud cleanup, streaking, etc. They are also very cost efficient. A tube of quality oil paint will last for years compared to popular miniature washes. And finally, they have much higher saturation than most washes you find out there, so you have greater range of color choice.
  20. Very nice nmm on the spear there, and great contrast and color choices on the entire model!
  21. Today I wanted to paint a different color so spent my alloted 1 hr hobby time painting a blue corset on the next khnierai It was pretty fun. The ****** are spherical (i know, not super anatomical, but I can live with it) so they were pretty easy to paint the light and shadows for. More interesting was using lights and shadows to accentuate the collar bones. I love me a shapely collar bone. I decided to do the gold nmm trim because I have no idea what the heck is supposed to be wrapped around the cloth. I used stronger purple shadows in the gold to tie in with the purple shadows in the cloth. Probably not very supportive clothing overall there but I think it looks cool. I do like that the Daughters are not unrealistically endowed - while the armor here is not very believable, the proportions are at least plausible, if highly stylized. Pretty happy with how things are coming together on her, might tackle her face next, or perhaps not. I find that sometimes I am happiest with my work when I’m not too focused on accomplishing some specific goal, and instead paint with my mood. Conversely, when I set a goal like “Finish 5 troops by end of month” sometimes they come out a bit... unlovely? I don’t know if it’s just a consequence of my being bored when I batch paint though, and whether there is an objective difference in the outcome on the models. EDIT - why is the common word for mammary glands filtered by the forum 😑
  22. Has anyone noticed that the witch aelves and sister of slaughter in Morgwaeth’s blade coven come on 28mm bases, but standard witch aelves and sisters come on 25mm bases? Does this portend bigger bases? Or just a slip up on GW’s part? While I wouldnt want to rebase witch aelves, the bigger base size is handy to improve stability. The models are top heavy and are otherwise prone to tipping over easily.
  23. Thanks. Elf power!!! Presumably you are of that lofty branch of the race armed with 3 meter pikes and fancy helmets, and beautiful steeds shod in silver/mithril. To you I say good day and smirk at the lesser races 😜
  24. Got another witch elf repainted with nmm and some more hilights (I originally did a bevy of 10 last year but they are kind of potato now.) This girl brings me up to 2 witch elves done. I’m enjoying learning the nmm gold and hilighting hair to appear luxurious. I think the face painting is still quite potato, but I can live with it for now. A big challenge for me is accuracy with the eyes, eyebrows, and general expression. I think the leather also could use a lot of work, but I’m not super keen on playing with that for now and may just leave it as is. Also, at some point I have to trade off speed against quality, so maybe the leather will just look flat for now. Still need to redo the bases, probably wait until I have a batch done before busting out the airbrush for that.
