  1. One of the witch elves is male now? In the underworlds warband, the unit description says “Drusylla and Valyssa, two former witch aelves...” and looking at the models, one of the melee elves appears to be male. Or it might be the paintjob.
  2. I don’t quite get the point of the Underworlds warband - the shadowfolk already have cool models for warcry, we don’t really need variations of those sculpts. Something like a new doom fire sculpt or alternate khinerai sculpt would have triggered a purchase from me.
  3. Let me run the beautiful dark elf sorceress model without ally rules! Let me run a Kharybdis or Black dragon, or give me a monster model that’s not Morathi! Increase the point costs of our units so we can be an elite army! Our models are certainly priced as elites from a dollar perspective. And dince we are wishlisting, bring me wave 2 of the DoK and don’t listen to those folks chanting for malerion soup. Soup the dwarves instead!
  4. Dude I love underworlds because of the sweet sweet sculpts but I 100% agree the card artwork is uninspiring
  5. One thing that strikes me as odd with a lot of the duel boxes that get released: Wouldn't they make more money by adding an additional kit to the smaller factions (fyreslayers, daughters of khaine) instead of adding a new hero? The asking price is certainly higher for a unit, and it doesn't seem likely that either one would generate more sales than the other - the target demographic for both are likely folks who already collect the army. From a design perspective, it probably requires a little more investment in design time, but I doubt that designer costs make up a large portion of their production cost. From a community perspective theres also seems to be a pattern of these single foot heros generating little interest. Contrast that with something like - some salamander cavalry for fyreslayers or some new Greek horror for daughters - and I think it was obvious that they will get more excitement and sales this way. I mean, the new foot hero is cool but I'd much prefer a 3 or 5 pack of a new elites unit.
  6. Aaron Dembski-Bowden by far! Betrayer is IMO the strongest book in the Horus Heresy. I also a big fan of Soul Hunter and it's the reason I spent several hundred dollars and several hundred hours painting a Night Lord's army 😋 I am currently reading Covens of Blood because I paint Daughters of Khaine and unfortunately it's a tremendous struggle to stay interested.
  7. Hey folks, recently decided to move back into a house and am looking to get a cabinet to store my painted armies. Looking for recommendations and experiences! Some things that are meaningful to me: 1. Durability is nice, although I don't plan to have a big dog or cat running around, so it doesn't need to be wrapped in steel or anything 2. UV protection glass seems nice? 3. I currently have about 6k points of armies total. I don't think I will ever go over 10k, not sure if that helps keep things simple. 4. I do have some bigger models (cauldron of blood for instance) and would like the flexibility to store stuff like terrain pieces and other large models. I don't know that I need a way to store a FW titan though.. 5. I like having stuff that can be disassembled and moved. I've moved around alot growing up and it's nice to have stuff that packs well. What cabinets/cases have you all found great?
  8. This ^ The same thing happened with my 1st ed battletome to be fair. I just don’t really know people who game frequently.. I think it is unlikely we get a new Cauldron sculpt. All of our range (barring doomfire warlocks) are excellent, modern sculpts. If we were to get new sculpts I’d like either new warlocks or a new unit. Nevertheless, we have fairly decent visual range on the board. Another behemoth or larger monster besides Morathi would be dope since I don’t want to run her for thematic reasons.
  9. I had no idea (I bought my ironscale on its own.) Was the lore for Tyralla interesting? Was the mini campaign in the box any good?
  10. I think, at it’s core, improvement comes from mindful practice. Learning techniques, experimenting with paints, learning theory on things like color, light, are all useful, but must be processed together through practice where one is focused on observing, critiquing and trying again. I think, for intermediate painters (most of us) some of the pitfalls are Becoming satisfied and stagnating/just doing what we are used to Difficulty seeing the “next level” - pinterest and instagram are helpful here, and also talking to oainters who are better Bad advice (drenching something in acrylic wash instead of controlled glazing or using an oil wash that can be tidied easily) Very rarely, using the wrong tool for the job Note that the above aren’t pitfalls per se. For instance, it’s often great to paint within one’s comfort zone to decompress from work for instance. Alternatively, what I think of as “bad advice” (ala uncontrolled acrylic washes) may have merits in other ways (I cannot think of one for uncontrolled washes though 😅) They just happen to be pitfalls for becoming a better painter if that means producing beautiful pieces ala kaha, masclans, mihausz, etc
  11. I'm excited to get a new hero sculpt if only for painting! I like that she has a bare face option in addition to the mask, as well as the spear! I hope she can be run as a generic hero - it sounds like she is a named character? That being said, I am going to wait for the separate release since I don't like the sculpts for doomfire warlocks. Their hands are huuuuuuegeee. (And I'd be lazy to pawn off the nighthaunt too)
  12. In the last month I got to paint another Melusai. Given this is the 6th Melusai, I figured I could do a new color scheme! I need to add some reds to the base to better match the rest of my army, but that will need to wait for a weekend when I have the airbrush out. Overall I think I like how she came out. Her snake skin is much more vibrant because of the yellow mixed into the turquoise making for a bright green. I like the gold armor more than the old steel too. I am also quite happy with her tail stinger, did some quick false shadows to add some depth there 😄
  13. I would love a 4 year cycle. I only got 1 game out if my 1st edition DoK tome, and 0 games out of my 2nd edition one lol. Give me something like Horus Heresy, where my core rules and books have been relevant for the last 5 years 😄
  14. I have painted 20 dok witch elves and have also painted some dark eldar witches. The elf in the rumor is definitely DoK. My guess is that she’s either a foot hero for DoK, (which is currently sorely lacking in free standing heros outside of the Cauldron of blood kit which provides 3) or she is a character in a warband/cursed city expansion. The strongest bits of evidence for DoK are the blade on the end of her whip, the straps of cloth around her legs, and her vambraces and greaves. The main inconsistency is that whip wielding Sisters for DoK are traditionally bald and masked, and this model appears to have hair. The fact that she has a special whip (not braided) makes me think she is not warband/cursed city but rather a hero. It would be aesthetically fitting for a Sister hero to have something like flowing hair to set her apart visually from the rank and file. See for instace, the DoK gorgon hero, who is almost identical to the normal medusa but has bigger hair.
  15. I couldn't find the Son's of Horus Praetor so I voted Crimson Court. Just 👌models.
  16. I painted another hag to go alongside Morgwaeth. I think, together with the slaughter queen they will form a triumvirate of sisters who rule this coven. I really need to paint some Melusai now. I wish I had done them maskless because painting faces has become so fun, and I have much more motivation to paint if I can paint faces 🙁
  17. I'm interested in getting some stuff purchased and painted before the release comes out (I'm a horribly slow painter so if I start a year in advance I might have some minimum troops done by the time they release haha.) High Elves and Wood elves are in right? Between the two, shadow warriors look like really nice sculpts, does anyone know if they count as troops? I'm more interested in the more modern sculpt aesthetic (I appreciate oldhammer, but am presently more stoked to paint newer sculpts.) Do we think 10 or 20 shadow warriors will be useful in TOW? Or maybe 10 or 20 eternal guard?
  18. This is such a nicely painted elf, fantastic volumes and tmm!
  19. I'm supposed to paint some snake women but witch elves are too fun I can't help it. Gonna finish this girl up and then maybe force myself to go back to a snake.
  20. The darkoath are exciting to me because I like the idea of chaos barbarians and they are like the inheritors of the chaos marauders. I bet they are great for ToW proxies too down the road.
  21. As someone who has been involved in heresy since 2018, I think the idea that Heresy players are difficult to play with is ridiculous. Heresy gaming tends to lean towards an older crowd with more disposable income, and i think there may be a different set of values predominant - narrative style gaming, emphasis on painting, conversions and story - but I’ve always found it a friendly community. There are some salty youtube personalities out there *cough-outercircle-cough* but that’s true of most gaming groups.
  22. Sunday mornings are superb for airbrushing for me, on weekends when my kiddo is away. I wake up at 8 (that's the most I am physically capable of sleeping in lol) I load up the noisy laundry apparatus in my apartment, and then, since it sounds like a racket anyway, I turn on my compressor and fan and go to town. For the DoK I've mostly airbrushed the undercoat and the bases. Especially with white and off-white colors I struggle with speckling. I think I've gotten more experienced with controlling for this - the right amount of airbrush medium, some water, and alot of mixing help. Then when airbrushing I always start the airstream off to the side so that any dried flecks get cleaned up by the initial airstream, then flow in real close to the model for that smooth layering. People who describe airbrush as cheating have likely never sat down to see how hard it is to use. It's like describing driving as cheating - yes it is faster than running, but it comes with it's own limitations and requires a tremendous amount of (different) skill and knowledge. Imagine if people insisted that running was the only "authentic" way to get from one spot to another! I undercoated 6 models in 1 hour of working time and I'm stoked to start adding color to them next! I decided to get 5 more Medusa instead of 10 more witch elves. I uh... Didn't follow the build instructions this time and mixed and matched parts to get unique poses 😆 and also did some more creative basing for this batch. I think I will paint them different colors from the first 5 because why not?
  23. It would be pretty cool, to discover that Sigmar is actually a flawed, deeply dislikable character, driven by his own narrow world views, making terrible decisions that ultimately cleave his empire apart into warring factions. There would be a civil war, and eventually the renegade stormcast will turn to chaos and the galaxy will be set in flames as brother fights brother. Eventually Sigmar would be challenged by his his once most loyal son, who, now seeing the failings of his father, resolutely attempts to smite him down, only to fail in the very end, leaving his father a catatonic wreck and himself, dead. The empire endures, but barely, forevermore languishing in an eternity of slow decline, with only the laughter of the chaos gods echoing through the passage of centuries, until, finally, civilaztion is snuffed out and the galaxy plunges into a final dark age of silence.
