  1. Making a certain Hero mandatory to unlock battleline is a very dated mechanic in the age of battleline monsters and elite units.
  2. Kottycators aren't super competitive, they can certainly do okay though. 3-2 should be in it if piloted well, that was from before the latest tones however, tzeentch would likely be a very unfavorable matchup while likely being often seen in tourneys. @ turragor: The issue is more in the hero phase ranges, especially manipulating cogs, Castellant and Heraldor. After the cats got a run and charge off, they tend to be too far off by the next hero phase (which is where i originally had a block of Sequitors who love those same buffs and extra move from cogs).
  3. Has anyone tried using xbow Judicators with Starcast? You get to remove heroes, you got big tanky drakes to pin stuff and you can cripple elite units with MW output, what the list lacks is crowd control. 3×5 Liberators may be way cheaper, but crossbows are actually really good damage for the points, as long as they are protected. They can tick the battleline box and contribute to the gameplan. And if it's for style, the CAN add mortal wounds, too
  4. @Sleepa@Sleepa i try to cast cogs from outside 30, if possible. It is a gamble ofc, but cogs going off means i can get much more aggressive and try the first turn charge, if the situation allows it. To me it's more about the reroll saves, the extra spell is just icing. If i don't get cogs off, i'll position more carefully, preparing a clean turn two. That is where i struggle most, from a decission standpoint. I often feel the need to push in, to take boardcontrol and present threats to my opponent. @ milano That list looks nice, i often miss the auto dispel from an Incantor. I'm not sold on Longstrikes without Anvils though, neither am i sold on Dracolines in Anvils (they most of the time kill what they charge and are weak in a hero phase activation because they don't get their charge bonus), may be try multiple hurricanes with extra aetherwings?
  5. As we just had the nice go over in the Starcast thread, i'd thought we might as well have a go here. I'm running a six Dracoline list for quite some time now and have found the following to be the core i bring every time: Lord Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline for pride leader and your choice of spell, i lean to use her for endless spells. Lord Castellant to lessen the impact of the inevitable countercharge and shooting Knight Heraldor to increase threat range and allow re-charge to get the damage bonus on the cats Chronomantic Cogs to get Celestial Blades and Empower off and most importantly, reroll saves. Star of the show: 6 Evocators on Dracolines, 3 Grandstaves and Celestial Blades. That's what i run every time and i feel bad to leave anything out. In my current iteration i add three ballista with Lordinator, 15 Sequitors and 5 Liberators or 3 Prosecutors, depending on mood. The next things i want to tinker with are an Ambermage to get +2 run and charge, especially with Heraldor, and a Knight Vexillor to port the cats back "to base" for buffing after they nuked their initial target. Since i'm running Celestial Vindicators lately, i feel pride leader and the LAoCD are more of a burden than they are worth. Might drop her and go 3×5 Liberators. Or take the LAoGC instead, the healing and CA might be really useful and riding the winds allows to keep up with run and charge cats. How's everyone else doing with their cats? What do you do to support them?
  6. We might jsut get a Kittycator thread going, to not derail the Starcast archetype further?
  7. I think the bend is part of the camera settings/ lense used. On the other pics they're straight. And historical polearms didn't bend like that either (and partially had way heavier heads than just a blade), they'd easily snap on the first thrust. Uf you want to get more info on historical polearms (and one vs two handed spear grips for that matter), go check schola gladiatoria on the YouTubes, the man has some pedegree and gives connectio s to other credible sources.
  8. I don't think the line troops should have a massive damage output, they're for holding the line so the mages and cav and dragons can come in for a solid kill. (Though i hope our lowliest warriors outperform, say, Freeguild chumps) Maybe we get a similar mechanic to the new KO aethergold, where you get a once per game boost. And once all the Aetherquartz is used up you better hope you did the job.
  9. Archaon kicked Sigmar's butt from the old world to the mortal realms in the first place. Also, Nagash is popably the easiest god to DEFEAT in combat, remember he tends to sprinkle shards of himself all over Shyish because he's a hlrrible control freak... Can't wait for the article tomorrow, though. If i didn't need to save up anyways i'd be dying for the release
  10. Considering the Sisters of Battle preview, GW very clearly stated in their first rebiews that they would be ober a year off and that they would share ongoing development, which we haven't seen ever from them. I hope they do more of the sorts. I remember Lumineth being mentioned as early 2020, that would make me guess april, late march AT BEST. But that's nowhere near waiting over a year, gladly.
  11. Those are solid points (and the reason i still stick to print for 40k, which i play a bit more competitively). I use the standard ebook versions for AoS and they work ok. Depending on the reader you use you can bookmark, too. The original index marks are usable, the warscrolls are the worst part, as they are indicated by what's on top of the respective page, not every warscroll being listed. It's once you have to jump between several files, it gets finnickey. However the printed versions seem to be outdated two weeks after release and you have to carry 5 (outdated) books per game. I've heard good things about the improved versions for apple stuff, i'm just not rich enough to support the hobby and that stuff
  12. They just rereleased the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook (specialist game) and for the first time i can remember they updated it with their current FAQ. I hope that gets repeated for all the books, i'd drop a few bucks to get all rules and errata rolled in. I would really love a subscription based electronic solution. Let me pay 10€ a month to get access to all rules and keep them updated. Besides hardback lovers i don't know of a player that wouldn't go with that.
  13. That's risky at best. I do understand the usage of msu hurricanes (the prime adds a large amount of damage compared to larger units if you don't double tap), they increase the action radius of aetherwings and they get the -1 charge bubble, which is nasty if there's an Incantor around. But i really can't see all those longstrikes work with too little screening and no believable melee threat.
  14. I'm torn between purple/ white or green/ beige and some gold. Then again classic Lothern style would suit these folks perfectly... I guess i'll try several once i have a box in hand
  15. The issue with Sequitors is, priming gold doesn't quite pay off, as most of the model is cloth. I prime mine grey and layer in the gold, doesn't take too long and doesn't make me paint as much white not having to paint as much white is about the best thing one can aim for...
  16. I take 2-3 hours per Sequitor, 2 max per Liberator. But i also deeply despise batch painting after forcing myself to it a few times and getting no fun and crappy paintjobs from it. Could shave some time there if it's for you. I prefer to finish a model start to finish, just gives me more enjoyment.
  17. I'll wait until i see Teclis in person before i judge, i also didn't like Tauralons in the pictures but i think they're pretty sweet hands on. The other models that were presented i reeeeeaaaally like, they're halfway between old Hilgh Elves and Idoneth, which were the first iteration of Teclis' vision after all. I also don't get the comment about the spearmen being too little dynamic, they're the anvil after all. Disciplined ranks of determined warriors with glinting armor. I'm such a Timmy
  18. Good pick, i love the Kittycator models, although a few more poses... let's not go down that rabbit hole
  19. Just pondering, would Gav with the Prime make a decent combo? I mean, it's darn expensive and locks you into Hammers, but letting the prime sit turn 1, then guarantee the charge with Gav, while Gav gets to charge something nasty nearby so it can't pile into Mr. Prime? This might fit with a Kitty list instead of a ballista bomb, or a large chunk of Sequitors to maybe get them back with Hammers. Just pondering...
  20. Short answer, sadly, is no. The Lord Relictor is useful, as are the Liberators to tick the battleline box. Prosecutors might be a handy tool to fill in those last few points, but SCE rarely have points left and even so you'd want the ones with javelins. Vandus (and LCoD for that matter) is overprized as hell for his body and locks you in Hammers of Sigmar. Retributors are good if they get to swing, but Evocators are just plain better, hit harder and have the same wounds and save, even better against shooting.
  21. To effectively remove a unit of Ossiarch Bonereapers you need rend -2 or lots of MW. If i'm not mistaken, we have only Ballistae and Raptors with rend 2. Taking into account that OBR depend on their heroes a lot, MW bombing seems good. Someone spoke about Starcast these days... seriously though a Drake and comet might go a long way, maybe even with a Gav bomb?
  22. I was mostly joking, but if you want to go RAW go all the way. Empower does not disallow casting another spell. Casting an Invigoration spell does not disallow having cast Empower before, it only disallows from casting. Not having casted. If you wanna go RAI you can debate whichever way you wish. I don't think they intended Evocators to not take advantage of the cogs. I think they wanted to be clear in that Evocators can't inherently cast both spells and didn't think of cogs allowing them a second cast.
  23. You can simply cast Empower first, before the restrictipn from having cast an invigoration spell kicks in. Yes it's a sloppy attempt. As is the warscroll and the errata 😛
  24. You might want to consider morale, too. The noise and smoke a salvo of muskets produce is far more intimidating than a salvo of arrows or bolts, also the impact is more conceivable as the transferred kinetic energy is far higher in a musket. Not that morale had any impact in AoS, that's what inspiring presence is for in real history (up until the 1st World War that is) breaking the enemy's morale would usually win the battle long before severe casualties were sustained by either side. Also, as was said before, it wouldn't be practical for all factions to develop in similar paths, that's what historical wargames are for. And i really like my sword and magic stuff more than everyone moving squares of line infantry...
  25. Quick headmaths says that would statistically be equal to +1 save against large numbers of wounds, even better against 2-5 wounds and only be worse against single wounds suffered. It also seems like a really clunky mechanic to me (no offense intended).
