  1. 2 Boxes would be a very solid start and I wouldn't even trade away the Khinari. They are a surgical unit (in either form) rather than a rank and file type unit, however they are fantastic models and very tough for what they do. Two boxed sets would easily give you 20 Khinari that you can use in a variety of ways from single 5 unit blocks to two 10 unit blocks or even a single powerful 20. If I were getting started with DoK right now I'd happily pick up two of those boxed sets without question, there's no waste in them at all and a solid core to build from. The only thing you "might" consider is one box and then 3 boxes of regular Witch Aelves, however with the saving in the boxed set and the lack of any "waste" I'd just go for several of them as long term there's nothing wasted at all.
  2. The DoK box is great for anyone getting started with the army as it basically gives you a bit of everything and currently everything is viable in the DoK battletome - even if both melusai and khinari have one option that is more favoured than the other, there's no waste at all. Like someothers I was hoping for more witch aelves since they are very pricey on their own, however that would be a box I'd be very happy to get - more winged death, more snakes and more witches.
  3. https://www.blacklibrary.com/series/novella-series-1 There's full details of each book there. You can get them one by one in digital or paperback for £3 or you can get the whole set (again either in digital or paperback) for £27, which means if you get the whole set you get one book for free. They are basically novellas, so a hundred or so pages long ish each (that's very rough some are longer, some shorter); so about 1/3rdish the length of a regular novel. There are also excerpts on their respective pages on the website too. I'm still debating between getting them in digital or paperback format - kind of wish GW put more art into their standard books even one or two bits on the internals helps make a story (esp a short one) in my view - esp as they've already got huge amounts of visual material from their models to their artwork. Plus I always think it makes a book worth owning when its got that extra visual touch; not just text (esp today when pure text books are good on ereaders)
  4. They've always had them, but in the past they were more bestial legs; these new ones are a bit more human in shape which I think really brings out that they are backward legs, not just reverse jointed animal hind legs. Only shame is that they've lost their hooves - but getting razor sharp clawed feet is a decent replacement!
  5. Don't forget the new 10 novella series comes out on pre-release today with a release next week - there's 4 AoS stories in there and its likely well worth getting them or one of the two complete sets (digital or print). Interestingly if you get the all-in-one you get one free.
  6. So based on the artwork it could be: 1 Herald of Slaanesh with Harp - might be hero 1 set of 3 fiends 1 set of Deamonettes possibly 1 set of mounted Deamonettes 1 Karnark! 1 set of 5 hounds 1 set of khorne mounted deamons 1 set of Khorne deamons That's a really nice box set and Karnark if he's in it is a nice surprise than just another herald model. Makes me really want that boxed set
  7. The only one they've done is a single forgeworld character in Necromunda He's down there with the one and only remaining Squat that GW makes.
  8. Well GW says that there is more in the box and I would wager that would be a herald of Slaanesh at the very least - makes for an ideal leader and the herald does need replacing from its finecast variation so that would be one potential place for the claw to go.
  9. My only minor dissapointment is I picked up Gang War 1 recently - not as miffed about picking up the underhive boxed set as I got tiles and terrain and tokens and more with that. But that is only one me and I'm really glad to see them putting all the Necromunda into two easy to digest books - it should really help get people into the game, esp as the core rules will now be sold outside of the boxed set.
  10. Well we know GW has to hit AoS hard and fast with updates; its not like a new game where they can slowly release stuff; they've got most of the model inventory out on the shelves already awaiting books. So they've got every reason to push things as fast as they can now (esp since 40K is nearly finished - ps anyone else see all those new sisters model teasers!)
  11. I'd be shocked if that appears now, I wager that will be saved for the new Battletome/Codex event. Along perhaps with a new infantry unit or some other stuff (since you know all the other 3 gods got loads of new fancy stuff when they launched - esp Nurgle)
  12. Ok that all looks freaking awesome! The new Eldar and Chaos warriors in Blackstone look fantastic (as to the others); whilst the new Hounds of Khorne look great! Really looking forward to seeing the other new things in that box (expecting it to be heralds). Overall really fantastic block of news even though the only thing on my "to buy" list is the Demon vs Demon boxed set when it arrives. Sounds like a powerful end to the year (not sure if its all confirmed for release this year? )
  13. GW is going ALL out for pets - I approve! Also I REALLY like those new hounds and fiends!
  14. Have you surpassed Brian Blessed level and advanced toward Viking Beard?!
  15. I'm pleased to see the high density of beards in that photo!
  16. One issue with maths many overlook is that many maths theory crafting is often done without buffs or bonuses applied. So some armies can appear very weak when units are compared like for like. In my view any serious study has to account for the fact that buffs, bonuses and such are going to have taken place so even if the unit is underpowered on its own, the consideration of buffs and bonuses should show that they are more durable and powerful. This only reinforces how some units are "stand alone" and others rely on synergy for best performance.
  17. Yep normally right after the website goes live with an update. GW knows that all the info will end up online right after anyway on various blogs and sites, so its better for them to get all the official info up on their own community site first and foremost. Plus it cuts down on a lot of questions as not every blog will report on all the info (or get it all perfectly correct).
  18. At least 8pm UK time means I can watch it without having to become a nightowl! Really hoping that we hear nears of the Khorne and Slaanesh boxed set - it would be nice to end 2018 on a high note of getting most of the releases they've teased thus far. Blackstone Fortress appears to be coming in Christmas so that gives some hope for the Demonic box also being a release for this year. The other big thing is people hoping for Genestealer Cults Codex making it out this year too - whilst not AoS stff it would be fantastic to see GW get that codex out and thus have almost the entire 40K fully codex released barring the Sisters of Battle (which we know is next year). Ending 2018 on a massive 40K high!
  19. I hope that any balance adjustment is done not to so much nerf daughters, but just to curb their power level a little so that they are inline with others. I'd hate to see a balance adjustment that removed viable army options - right now the fact that you can build the army "almost" how you want is utterly fantastic and what most armies should aim for.
  20. Blood Stalkers are not as popular as their snake sisters, mostly due to the fact that they are neither great at range, nor as good in close combat; however they do fit the theme of a snake army and can give you some ranged threat that you otherwise might lack (though often as not daughters just charge up and get in the face of the enemy). I''d be tempted to drop one Hydra or some stalkers to free up some points so that you can boost at least one or more of your Sisters up to a few more models. You want more models for more wounds so that you've got a bit more staying power.
  21. 700pages is a LOT. I very much doubt GW would pay to print a WD that big and still only charge what they do for a regular issue. Esp when those are high glossy pages all thick with ink and colour on every single page.
  22. Maybe the problem with Blood Stalkers is two fold. 1) They are skirmishers who are stuck between ranged and close combat in a close combat heavy army; whilst not really shining at either. Which makes most want to make them stronger at ranged attacks so that they fit into something new in the army. 2) The fact that they are the only main deployment ranged unit that is closer to "dedicated". Avatars and Cauldrons can do ranged, as can mages, but both those groups are only really shooting as they advance into close combat. Daughters have no hold-back and shoot units which, if they did have them, could give Blood Stalkers somewhere to fit into. A ranged unit that wants to and can hold back to help protect ranged units from sneak attacks. In fact they might be stronger as allies for other factions within the Alliance grouping rather than as pure Daughters units. A fact that is under-represented at present due to the fact that there's only Idoneth and Daughters who are fleshed out with a battle tome and major popularity.
  23. Really love the use of the melusai tails/bodies for those! Great idea and really simple to achieve
  24. One bonus of DoK is that even if GW adjusts (not nerfs) some of the units, the range is small and tight enough that its unlikely to lead to a vast change in composition validity. So 90 Witches will still be viable, just not overwhelmingly powerful. This means you've far less chance of your army being invalidated and its far safer to build what you want (more or less). Other armies where there are multiple troop types of very varying stats can have more of a swing effect whereby an adjustment to balance takes a unit from a must-have en-mass to a nice unit but compliments other things.
  25. That's the classic "fencer's move" style. A classic, refined, if somewhat old now standard of moving things. These days reserved only for those with pose and grace and style (thus defeating many of your standard nerds/geeks and the warrior giants that tend to dominate wargames*). Great looking table and really nice choice of wood for finish and colour. The raised lip around the edge makes great sense for a gaming table and it matches with your display cabinet. Looking forward to seeing it decked out with terrain and models! *I'm serious it seems every other gamer is often 6ft tall!
