  1. It's been 120 points for Bolt Throwers, High or Dark Elf variant and they kicked ass. I see no reason why these won't either. 4 of them with a Lord Ordinator will be awesome.
  2. Single hero models would be welcome. There's a lot of very similar looking armies because of the lack of models. Stuff like the Hag Queen would be appreciated, or even a bit of variety on the sprue in the character box. It seems like something that's easy to do as well.
  3. I wouldn't read too much into the numbers on the warscrolls. Haven't we seen this before, but then matched play values show a unit has to be between x and y and so on?
  4. So, my WIP this week focuses around rebasing my entire army on to MDF bases. Just in time for AoS2. Hope I've guessed right with sizes, though I think I might have at least the chariot wrong (probably on a 120mm, mine isn't). Painting wise, towards the June contract. On to fine details with my Drakespawn: Teeth, tongues, spines, claws, eyes, leather and saddles to go. Some fine highlights of the underbellies too. Then onto Knights...
  5. It's coming out really well Chris. I've had that too with Allies - you think you've nailed a thematic, cool or strong list using some allies, to discover it's 20 points over the limit or so on! I think Aelves (High Aelves particularly) lend themselves well to be allied to the Stormcast. I think some of the mixed armies can look disjointed, even official ones like the Anvilgard. You've nailed it though.
  6. Not a WIP but a complete model my son finished with a bit of help from dad... I've got a massive load WIP but I'll not cross post those from the May Contract thread. Here's a sample though: Nearly there with this batch of lizards. That's 18 in total when these are done (sorceress, chariot and 15 knights).
  7. Gotta love an inventive kitbash. What warscroll are these using?
  8. Sorry for a boring update. Managed to do the dark brown base coat for bones/spines/gold on all drakespawn models (10 knights, chariot, sorceress) and tidied up the underbelly bits. However, I'm more proud to get my boy involved. He loved a game we played a couple of weeks back, he's got the bug and he loves Stormcast. Score 1 to Games Workshop. Here's a WIP: He's doing really well. I'm in hand as he does it to smooth thick bits of paint or do tiny details, but he loved slapping on the Reikland and drybrushing! He even managed to do some of the silver highlights. Think he's quite enamoured, and a friend of a friend is able to get me the starter box and some Longstrikes for a 1k list for cheap. He can do all the basecoating, I'll do the fine details! ??
  9. OK that puts me more at ease! I'm not as fast, but to know that's 10 hours worth of painting makes me feel less useless. I feel you about the grind. Working through rank and file gets very monotonous. I've only just really got into batch painting.
  10. Your progress is unreal. The speed of airbrushing I guess! Meanwhile, I spent 3 hours this morning mostly painting spines, claws and gold sections of 12 drakespawn a basecoat of brown. How many hours went into this one so far @Melcavuk?
  11. Not much to write home about, but managed to get the underbelly base coat on 10 Drakespawn. That leaves the chariot and sorceress to do the same with, and then I can do the washes. If I've learnt anything recently, is just because a model is bigger, and the unit smaller, that I'm now no longer convinced painting 30 rank and file would be any slower to paint! ?
  12. Yeah Highborn are Compendium if I remember. That's why I wondered if you were running Order or a rebranded Dark Aelf list. That's a good point High Elves going Legends. Wonder who's next to be Legend-ified!
  13. Why not just use the High Elf rules? I'm guessing you're not running a mixed order list? I purposely built a list around just the minimal battleline Darkshards/Spears, bubble wrap for Hydra or whatever for what essentially is a Order Serpentis list. I wonder if the Stormcast one is as cheap however!
  14. I think you're missing the point of Legends. In the not too distant future, you'll have no desire to play matched play with these older models, because you'll have a load more competitive modern armies in their place. Let's not forget that it's literally only the Compendium models that have lost points, and as I said before, I don't think outside of tournaments you'd have issues if you have the old warscrolls for the next year at least, using Compendium models... If indeed you even do for matched play.
  15. Brill work @Soulsmith now get doing that Malus conversion!
  16. Trying to be pragmatic, optimistic, philosophic... I think I'd sum it up thus: There is a range of models GW will not produce any more, and haven't for a while. EG the Dark Elf metal models. If they are going to re do a model or race properly, do it for the new aesthetic (remembering GW make models, that's the bread and butter). Don't just make plastics of old lines. Eventually, new is far more new than old. They don't match. Hence, they disappear from most recent rules. How are you supposed to build a list around Bolt Throwers unless you're a crusty old guy like me who owns two from God knows when. You don't or you can't, so rules aren't needed. HOWEVER, there are old crusty players like me. I want to play with my horde of 20 year old models. Hence, Legends. The setting moves on. We get Deepkin, we'll get 2 more aelven factions. We have rules that match the available model line. With Legends, we have rules that match the old model line. We also, with the right scene, have flexibility (THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE) to continue with older lists, Compendium, square bases. I'm not expecting to get turfed out of WHW because I've got a matched play list with a Sorceress on Drakespawn and a couple of Bolt Throwers in it... It's probably a ****** synergy less list anyway! I just wish they left removing Compendium until Legends had more than the druchii! ? Let it get some traction. I'm disappointed, but I know my Drakespawn, Corsairs and Co are realistically on life support, but I bet I'll get a few years whilst the plastics are still good.
  17. Initially I thought the same, because if we take Idoneth Deepkin as an example, that's pretty much what's happened. However, that makes sense within the lore, considering the history of the aelves consumed by Slaanesh, Teclis' role etc. And then, look at Daughters of Khaine. Another recent tome, but this time very much restricted to the older Dark Elf factions. I think if the intention was to move along those lines, that could have happened with the Daughters.
  18. My personal feeling towards Legends, mostly, was that I was gutted to lose the Compendium models like Bolt Thrower and Sorceress on Drakespawn to matched play. However, I think a bit of pragmatism is needed, and this comment sums it up. Legends to me is akin to when a new games console launches. Just because there's a PS4, that doesn't suddenly invalidate the PS3 or your ability to play it. Yes, you can't play across the platforms, yes, you won't have as many opponents. But, the console hasn't spontaneously combusted either! In this instance, we also have the benefit of two systems of play available side by side using the same core rules. I would also like to bet that it wasn't a huge consumption of resources to produce Legends, which lets be honest, is just to help shift old models. GW's core business is the models. The game is an excuse to buy more of those models. It's an excuse to justify grown men and women painting and sticking and moving them about. Moving the lore on gives room to produce more models. If GW aren't profitable, we couldn't have this debate, because there wouldn't be a game system to play or a load of models to buy. Again, still gutted to lose Compendium but I accept the game moves on and I at least have a set of rules to use with those old models.
