  1. I'm well up for Deepkin, but on foot preferably. Daughters of Khaine would be awesome, especially Melusai or Khinerai, a hag or something for characterful models. What's happened with Tenebrael Shard or the Mistweaver? Something with that aesthetic would be cool.
  2. Thank you for this. I love that it's the old school names... Space Wolves Grey, Snakebite Leather, Ultramarines Blue to name a few. I've said this on a few places but more choice is definitely a good thing. And also, speeding up elements of the paint job doesn't mean that you can't produce outstanding results by using these things wisely. Hexwraith, for example, is brilliant for using for Warp fire, green glow etc because of its properties - thin, high pigment etc. Using regular paints, washes etc then supplements them. I've heard a few people say they look fantastic over metallics too. I've had the joy of seeing people like Darren Latham's Silver Skulls in the flesh. They're literally sprayed silver, washed (carefully) and then all the hard work goes on the eyes, shoulder pads and other details to help it stand out. They're beautiful, but clean and simple paint jobs. Then when you add in the characters and the whole army looks phenomenal. Or, Tyler Mengel's awesome Nighthaunt. Use of Nihilakh Oxide. These could be used similarly - get the big areas done quick, but devote time to details. I'm keen to see how these could be applied to flesh personally. These are great. Use as intended for very quick army jobs. Use in your arsenal however you wish if you stick to more traditional methods.
  3. I'm cautious to lurch one side to another. My initial disappointment of Chaos only receded, just based on how good Kill Team is and my hope Warcry would be the same. Now the reveal of 9 other factions puts me right back to where I felt before - I'm really happy. I'm also not going to worry too much about what those 9 other factions are (though I will hope it's quite a 'free' choice a bit like Kill Team is) because if it's remotely like Kill Team, I'll end up using it as an excuse to try factions that aren't what I collect for AoS anyway! It's going to be good whatever happens, of that I feel really confident.
  4. Ray Dranfield has created some exceptional stuff (I can't remember the other chap). The Kill Team scenery is immense, but actually so much of all of it is. It is incredibly flexible, expandable and I had some many little bits spare that were perfect for basing as well. £80 for two Kill Teams (nearly), a set of ruins, the board and rules is huge value for money. I'll buy a set of Warcry in an instant and one for the school club if it's remotely as good. I feel the same. I started with 40K over 20 years ago but it never got going like I did with Fantasy. But because KT is so collectable and easy to play, I now have a fully painted Tyranid Kill Team, a nearly finish Space Wolf one, a primed Ultramarine one, a built and based Necron team and that's without looking at the GSC or AdMech I have on sprues.
  5. I'm always amazed how the rumours get out. I know a couple of people who work for GW, either directly or otherwise, and neither spill the beans - it's not worth the risk. I'm guessing some staff have close friends they might let slip some things to just because of the sheer quantity of new stuff that they didn't realise was released, but that hanging threat of job loss (presumably a dream job for a lot of them) helps keep their lips tightly sealed. I think a lot of it comes from staff in distribution or warehouses. They might have zero interest in the hobby and think nothing of saying 'yeah I saw a box full of daemons, Wrath and something' to a mate and it snowballs from there. If I worked in somewhere like the Design Studio I wouldn't tell a soul.
  6. I've been painting Tyranids for Kill Team lately so haven't felt I should overdo the posts on an AoS forum because people aren't here for that. I love WIP Wednesday. Even though Weds are a pain for me (meetings after work, daughter at Guides), it forces me to do a bit of hobby I might ordinarily skip.
  7. Sounds good. I've got to try it and see. What temple did you run?
  8. Yeah that's very true. I do wonder if the snakes and even Morathi however have the fighting power to have a bit of a scrap too? I'd also use the Doomfires and Heartrenders to pinch objectives due to their speed and try and keep them to limited fights? Other potential is to add another Medusa rather than boost the snakes to a 10/5/5 for a bit more magic but might benefit more from the additional snake attacks?
  9. I know it runs against the current trends, but has anyone tried a more magic heavy list? I don't really mind if I win a lot, because I buy based on what looks cool to me, but I'm going down the new model route with Melusai battleline, Bloodwrack Shrine etc and Khinerai. I've got 10 Melusai (plus an additional 5 unbuilt), 10 Khinerai (unbuilt, Heartrenders the better build?), 10 Doomfires, 2x Hags, 1x Slaughter Queen, 1x Bloodwrack Shrine (magnetized). I want to use the Geminids and Spellportal, thematically. However, with the remaining battleforce models I could do another Shrine, Witches/Sisters (though I might use the Sisters as pirate ladies for my mixed Order army). Ideally the list is something like: Bloodwrack Shrine (General) Hag Queen Hag Queen Morathi 3x5 Blood Sisters 2x5 Heartrenders 10xDoomfires Geminds Spellportal I did include the Slaughter Queen to support the unit of Melusai, and also an Assassin for that proper Khainite vibe, but maybe that 180 points would be better served to bolster a unit of Melusai upto 10? Does the Avatar have a place? Do I stick to my guns with an Assassin and have him dropped from the sky from just one unit of Heartrenders? I did do a double shrine/no Morathi list but I can't have a DoK army and not have Morathi! Especially as I've now got 4x2000 point armies on the go. My thinking is to sell the 2nd Shrine, buy Morathi and 5 more snakes? Thoughts? EDIT: Something like this - Allegiance: Daughters Of KhaineMortal Realm: UlguBloodwrack Shrine (220)- GeneralMorathi High Oracle of Khaine (480)Hag Queen (60)Hag Queen (60)Assassin (80)10 x Blood Sisters (280)5 x Blood Sisters (140)5 x Blood Sisters (140)10 x Doomfire Warlocks (320)5 x Khinerai Heartrenders (80)Umbral Spellportal (60)Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (40)Total: 1960 / 2000Extra Command Points: 0Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 99
  10. Maintain my current painting frequency. I do a good few hours a week now and I've come to love painting again. Play some games! I've got Kill Team lined up over Christmas with a bit of luck, but I live so close to Warhammer World it's ridiculous I don't play. Maintain focus. I've now got 2000 point armies for Daughters of Khaine, Stormcast Eternals, Mixed Order (which is its own army) and Order Serpentis. Order Serpentis is supposed to be my main one! If I want to buy something new, I need to just get a character model or something to scratch a hobby itch. I've also got 5 Kill Teams if you include the box set!
  11. Regarding old world and retuning characters, look to the 'dark' aelves for your answer. Morathi - demi God Malerion - actual God (he is isn't he?) All other characters, consigned to Legends. You've got the GW blueprint right there. You might get the odd one slip through the net, but no other character (and the Druchii had some awesome ones) has survived other than in Legends. The other nice bits is to see Mathlann referenced by the Idoneth, Khaine etc. I love that link back. I don't have any rumours, so I'll leave my two pence there! 👍
  12. Good luck. I regularly get it wrong myself but practice makes perfect. One other tip, is that you need to have your hands in such a way that your hands are very steady. I can't really explain it, but the way I hold the painting grip means my left thumb and left little finger sort of support the right hand. I'd take a photo but I need 3 hands to show you! 😂
  13. Painting eyes is difficult. However, these are my steps: Paint basecoat and wash on face. If the wash is dark enough in the eye recess, paint a nice couple of thin coats of white. Use a good tipped brush and the paint has to be a good consistency. Too thin and runs, too thick and you won't have the working time before your brush is drying. If it's not dark in the eye sockets, Rhinox or black before the white. In either case, a bit of darkness around the edges helps define the eye. When the white is white, paint black lines, not dots, from above the eye to below. This gets a bit of black on the eyebrow or cheek, but you should get two even lines on both sides. Make sure you look at the model dead on here. Tidy up the face when you finish the layers. I'm rubbish at photography but these might show the outcome.
  14. "Scaled new heights of secrecy" are the clues there aren't they?
  15. I thought we'd get an Aelves battletome or something Free Cities related that ties them all together, but not so sure now. I don't even recall how any rumours started, aside from the AoS2 round up pages. I'm glad they're just aelves now, rather than the division of before, with natural groupings. There's got to be some logic however to having a faction of only two models, of which one unit (dark riders) are a two part kit in a new army (ie good enough for current edition). In fact, all the plastic dark elf models are good for a while yet, surely, especially looking at poor Abaddon and Eldar in 40k 😁 Selfishly, I want them all to remain in matched play, purely because I'd like to play with them when I eventually paint them. Secondly, I don't mind waiting for Malerion's faction becuase of said painting pile! In any case, I would definitely expect the Darkoath and maybe some other tomes well before Malerion and Teclis. Unsure on Slaanesh, but maybe they'll strike whilst the iron is hot...
  16. I've dipped in and out of this thread lots (not a Stormcast player though my son has 2000 pts of them accumulated over box sets etc), but is there a mathematical conclusion/consensus to taking a Lord-Ordinator with only two Ballista? I played a few games with my boy and the Lord-Ordinator buffs were appreciated. However, I'm making a "mixed Order pirate aelfy list" that currently has me deciding between Tenebrael Shard + Sword of Judgment and a second Sorceress, vs a converted Lord-Ordinator (Fleetmaster on a 40mm base with a telescope and measuring implements) and Shadowblade Assassin. Both I think suit the list, but if the Lord-Ordinator won't add the value to the two Ballista I'll take, the Shard and a 2nd Sorceress might give me more mileage/cause less issues with counts-as.
  17. I've only played a couple of games actually, both only 1000pts and just last man standing style... And lost! However, they were learning games and I was playing a Stormcast list that shot my Dragon off the table because of bad positioning etc. The Dragon was great in the 2nd game, as was the Hydra. I think you need to be very careful about what and when you engage with Order Serpentis because the knights are far less durable than you'd expect heavy cavalry to be. I think the consensus is the dragon and hydra are good, the rest less so. I think you might get more mileage, competitively, out of Darkling Covens and ally in a dragon or a couple of hydra personally. I'm not a gamer (yet) so that opinion is not based on my own experiences.
  18. Here's my old Spears, using two Dreadlord models to help modernise I think they're OK! The newer ones are better though. For me, these are literally sacrifice fodder, allied in to my Order Serpentis army.
  19. Regarding removing factions, I don't see it. They might consign some bits and pieces to 'Legends' (which I have felt a bit of that sting with some of my Dark Elf models), however, it appears that the lore supports the smaller factions as denizens of the mortal realms. Stuff like the Skycutters are part of the day to life, so are Corsairs etc. I think when a range is truly old, or the models aren't viable to use and therefore no-one is, that's when they tend to go. Or would make the most sense to, though I still think the stuff they took from the Dark Elves were good models (eg: Sorceress on Drakespawn, Dreadlord on Drakespawn, Dreadlord on Foot - all 2007 models and great sculpts still I think) so perhaps my theory is off the mark. I think there seems to be a general consensus that a free cities arrangement would work really well to add allegiance stuff to the small factions. I don't personally think this will happen beyond Firestorm-like books, as I'm sure the grand alliance armies are designed to be this way, and that's where part of the fun comes I guess in writing these fluffy lists. However, I don't think there are rumours one way or another about this in any case?
  20. Yes, just straight up use Reaver rules. I know that can be really contentious though, not everyone accepts this sort of proxying. I think the Dark Riders are such nice models, great kit full stop with the Warlocks, so it's a shame to not be able to use them due to the Shadowblade faction being so useless!
  21. Have you thought about using the Dark Riders as Reavers, therefore giving you a mixed Order list to build around @EMMachine? I've got about 20 Dark Riders that I just don't use, however, with other models and probably the Mistweaver and Tenebrael Shard, I thought about making a mixed Order list. I've also gone for the cold Ulgu theme with my Aelves. Obviously the Naggaroth influence is still there! Snow bases are great.
  22. Nearly have another unit of Drakespawn Knights done. Just the gold to do, tidy up some black and silver. Then of course the snow bases. You can see the gold here: And I couldn't resist starting the Hydra at last. A coat of Stegadon Scale and Nuln Oil so far. Its going to be greener ultimately, and will be a mid ground colour wise between my Black Dragon, which will use similar tones, and the greeny-blue Drakespawn.
  23. Meant to post these on Weds when they were WIP but finally finished a unit of Drakespawn Knights! As always, excuse terrible pics. Have also included the other finished models I based tonight.
