  1. I'm not a RP-dude, but I collect Soulbound just for the Lore. Soulbound books are more focused on the background. Like an history book. A bit of introduction, what happened in that cities/empires, people living there and their relationship with their neighbours... that kind of stuff. These things make me want to know more about the world and it feels more believable, at least for me. Baatar seems to be a City of Not-Sigmar. I'm pretty sure that behind their esoteric markets, shaddy smugglers and strange (and forbidden) artefacts, there are a lot of Slaanesh Cultists in Baatar. Sadly, Soulbound does not delve deep enough.
  2. Soulbound has more lore behind the civilizations of the Great Patch. From the Floating City in Baatar to Lumnos. There are some hints about the background on the fall of the Agloraxian Empire, and the mage-wars between Baatar, Aspiria and Vitrolia (this explains why Baatar is now floating and why there is a perma-burning forest). Steel Spike, for example, is a Massive Fortress full of defensive enchantments made during the Aspira's conflicts. After Chaos ravaged the Great Patch, many refugees moved to Steel Spike and the city become a massive City-Fortress with a lot of manpower and resources. That's why it didn't fall to Chaos. Presumably with a lot of humans using some kind of magic weapons (and a lot of gunpowders):
  3. This two points have the same feeling of old "thematic/alternative" lists for Warhammer Fantasy: A restricted lists with "maybe" some bonus. It could work something akin the Rivals format from Warhammer Underworlds. The ultimate competitive format: 1 premade list vs 1 premade list. Only dice and skills are going to carry the game. Remove list-building or armies with low/high number of warscrolls. Not sure if something like that could exist, but it could solve A LOT of problems
  4. Maybe I'm wrong but a lot if not all new wargames/skirmish games are using free digital files or something similar: Malifaux: Malifaux Resources (all "warscrolls") and a 100% free App with everything in it (army builder included). Fans can buy their own LoreBooks or campaign Books for their own faction, but that's all. Asoiaf: All FAQs, rules and Books (even old editions) are free and updated regularly in CMON webpage. When you buy a box, it comes with the warscrolls from that edition or the rulebook if it's battlebox. Btw, Asoiaf Builder has all cards from the current edition too. Conquest: All FAQs and rules are free for their wargame and the skimish version. Only LoreBooks are 100% behind a paywall. Elder Scrolls VI. Skyrim, the Adventure Game: Rules are completely free. WarmaHordes: Their rules are free too, since (I think) 2019. Infinity: Their side has a Download Resources with all their rules, faqs and even campaigns. (btw, I don't play this game, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). KOW: Their Core Rules can be bought online in their oficial store for 0 €, with basic rules and Dwarfs+Orcs. Note: Their 3d edition book is behind a paywall.
  5. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that the last iteration of warhammer fantasy had 28mm miniatures. At least the last ones that are still valid for AoS, and it seems to be exactly what the Warhammer Community is talking about: Btw, I know people that still plays Warhammer 6th edition with miniatures from 5th to 8th. And let's be honest, I'm not sure if that's a big deal....
  6. From Warhammer Community: Imho, I can't imagine anything about TOW that could not exist in AOS. The scale is the same (we are already using Empire, Wood Elf, etc...) and the aesthetic is not a problem. You only need to deal with square-round bases.
  7. That's exactly what I expect. Better warscrolls overall integrating some of their abilities in their basic stats and profiles. I expect to see a lot less interactions based on slingshots and/or wombocombos, and I hope to see Maggotkin with a gameplay a bit more accurate to their lore. Btw, I'm not worried by this design, the game is enough bloated with rare interactions.
  8. My first thoughts were close to @KingBrodd, but after some time, I just changed my mind. It's not a perfect game, a bit "old school" for my taste, but the feeling is exactly what @Kaleb Daark pointed out.
  9. Unpopular Opinion (wrong topic, I know): Imho, there shouldn't be a lot of sources with +1 to your base stats. Like @KrispyXIV already said, some units that can maximize that +1 buffs are going to abuse it, and that's wrong. You should get what you paid for. With fixed profiles, it's really easy to build basic stats (without abilities) that are build to do one jobs on the table. In other words, they are so easy to accomplish what they are designed for: Do you want big anti-armor dmg? 2+/2+/-4/D2 attacks Do you want to build a heavy armored dudes to be your anvil? 2+ saves Why we don't have that profiles in ALL armies? Damage can still bypass armor with save rolls of 1, so it's not just an auto-win like AV14. And that's without taking in consideration Warscroll Abilities... If we want to remove some waiting time or have more interaction, we don't even need CAs, just Reactions with more utility than plain buffs. If we want Stat-buffs, bring abilities with dice rolls (spells/prayers/whatever) and let the RNG god decide if your unit is going to be stronger than when you bought it.
  10. With the new Total War Warhammer 3 Ogre Kingdoms, I wanted to writte new Warscrolls for our fellow old friends with Anvil of Apotheosis. They are all overcosted and it's a bit dificult to play with them without a narrative mentality (and maybe some house-rules), but I hope you like them:
  11. I disagree. When I kill him 10 out of 20 games with my -1/-2 rend weapons, I will completely change my mind. Until then, it's just an anecdote.
  12. That are exatly my thoughts too. I was expecting something completely diferent that I could use in my games. I just want to remind that there is a rule that explicity states what can happen in a game: In other words, everything can be killed. That's nice and all, but the truth is a bit more complex. How "easy" is to accomplish that? If every 20 games, I can only kill 2 times your 2+save with +4 save stacking Hero-Monster with my dedicated 1500 points of focus fire, I don't really care about this two games, they are just anecdotes to talk when drinking some beers with friends, but it's not what is happening in the whole game.
  13. Can you share the Game? I'm really interested in this type of games because KOs have a really hard problem to kill things in this save-stacking season.
  14. I think that you can. Thunderbolt Volley allows you to shoot in the Hero Phase, so, not at the Start and not at the End of that phase, but that's all. Note: Unleash Hell, technically, works exactly like that. You could shoot later in the charge phase, but you must target the same unit that charged and allowed to trigger Unleash Hell, so it's a bit pointless to wait later in the turn.
  15. I think that will be the standard for all armies: Two abilities (or less) for low-wounds heroes and move on. Of course we are going to see some others like Wardokks, but I think they the exception of the rule. Time will tell
  16. Yes of course. I know some of them are already in AoS, but they are just anecdotes or a shadow of what they can be used for, but I will list the first ones that come to my head. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot more: Auto-Hit and Auto-wound: Vanari Bladelords, it's a mechanic that should be exploited. Ex.: To Hit Rolls of 6 Auto-wound the enemy. Bonus dice: Add one dice, and then discard the lowest Ex.: Instead of 2D6 to charge, roll 3D6 and then discard the lowest. Minus dice: Add one dice, and then discard the highest. Ex.: Instead of 2D6 to cast an spell, roll 3D6 and then discard the highest. Fixed defense: Abilities that ignore/reduce/have a bonus to enemies rolls. Ex.: Wound rolls of 1-3 are never successful. Table edges: Each number of a dice roll points to one edge of the table. Ex.: Ambush mechanic. On a 1, nothing happens, on 2-5, your units come from an specific table edge, on a 6, you chose the edge where they come. Change "Ambush" for "tidal wave" spell that hits all units within 9" of that edge. Confronted dice: What we have as a starting roll. Ex.: My Hero will attack first if He/She wins a confronted roll vs your engaged Hero. Conditional bonus to Movement/Roll: Add Dice/Movement if a units move over a Terrain Feature/Quarter/ Within X" of an enemy/etc... Ex.: Add 1D3" to your run roll if the movement for that unit passes over a Terrain Feature. (Non-dice related) Attack Last Weapons: Strong weapon profile that can only be used if the unit attacks at the End of the Fight Phase. Attack First Weapons: Fast/Weak weapon profile that allows the unit to attack at the Start of the Fight Phase but only with that weapon profile. Sniper: Ignore Look Out Sir/Cover/Garrison rules Anything Bravery-related: Whatever that is not a roll to remove models or that can be ignored. Bonus for targeting X role: Instead of having bonus versus other GA alliance or a specific keyword, add X to your To wound/Hit/Save/Spells/Prayers/whatever when targeting/being the target of/by a specific Role. Ex.: Add +1 to casts to your Mystical Shield when you targer a friendly battleline unit. Take in mind that some of them can be expanded in a lot of diferent ways, but I tried to simplify as much as I could.
  17. Unpopular Opinion: I think that GW is not using all the potential mechanics for a game that uses 1D6 dice, even if it helps the game being faster and brings more interactions between players. Instead, we have a mix of basic mechanics (add +1 to something, re-roll 1/dice, and add X", etc...) and complicated interactions.
  18. Yep, we have access to the generic and special triumphs!!
  19. That would be a dream. With maybe a new Hobgrot hero and a new troop/cavalry... Btw, the Hobgrot from the Underworlds Warband is awesome!!
  20. Battlelines and subfactions in kruleboyz are really an step behind the whole 3.0 design. Instead of having a lot of cool kits to buy, we are just fishing for boltboyz/guttrippaz from Dominion or buy a few boxes.
  21. Ummm, maybe I'm wrong, but the problem you are talking about is the "meta"builds used in competitive environments, also known as Cookie Cutter Lists. I mean, that's the price you pay to jump on the competitive bandwagon , the arms race between friends that ends with a perfectly optimized builds that always follows your local meta. I'm not saying that's wrong, a lot of peope likes to find "meta-breaker" combos or just clash their perfect lists, but that's exactly what we always had: 1-dropZilfin lists, Changehosts lists, Anvils of pew-pew-pewhammer lists, triple-keeper matrioska, etc... I imagine that Dragons Rampage or Stormcasts Pew-Pew-Eternals are going to be good candidates to join the "meta" lists. Even if I was one of them in 1.0, (60 arkanauts, 20 thunderes and 32 balloon boyz...), it wasn't for me. But I understand why some people loves (and follows) the competitive scene and I really respect their dedication.
  22. Nop. The units come at the end of the movement phase. That's when everything already has happened, same timing as leaving a garrison.
