Your pile of shame in picture

Well since @Minis by Night and @SquigHoarder showed us their solution to display/Store their minis, I'm going to show you mine.
They're Ikea's "Detolf". I added some more shelves by using some U shaped thingy ( aka cable clamps) and tadaaaa you've got Detolfs with a boat load of shelves.
But to be honest it's not great when you need to get some minis out of it, first because I don't own enough rectangular trays to put my minis on (90% of my figs are based on rectangular bases since I bought them second hand) and secondly because when you have so many shelves cramped on the detolf, then you have to be careful not to either damage a mini or even yourself. I did severe one of my left hand tendrils while installing the non securit glass shelves in the detolf. I had to be escorted to the hospital by firemen and got myself some nifty 9 suture points and some physiotherapy :D.

So I was wonderng what could be a better alternative to the system I found. At Ikea, I've found that their kitchen furniture might actually of interest to us. The resaon is because unlike the solution based with immobile shelves where you have to go pick what you want to play, their kitchn furnitures have got rails inside, so that's the selves moving out to meet your loevely delicate hands (well I wish you have, because I'm always on the verge og breaking something with mine :D)

The only problem is it becomes quit expensive quickly. So I'll keep that in mind for later on.

What's your mini storage solution ? If you have any good iead, please share!

So this is my completely unassembled section here which is packed in quite tightly about 2 original boxes to each box now, I've also got a bunch of fishing tackle containers with semi assembled stuff, an assembled but unpainted shelf plus some stuff in fishing tackle containes, a primed shelf  plus containers and 3 actually painted shelves.

You're pretty organized if you separated the minis in different categories :)

Those are my actual display shelves. Would you believe I painted about 800 minis in the last 3 years, and most of them are in those pictures? Looks so small (althought the Necrons, Nighhaunts and Chaos are packed pretty tight).

Jesus, you want to see my pile of shame?

20200409_201026.jpg.23e3d6b349608b3e7e658aa49023cfcb.jpg

Everything else is at least painted (although some are waiting for basing), and primed. Heck, the only thing that is primed is 3 endrinriggers and I am painting those next! Everything is painted. Although to be fair this is just about the end of the painting zone as a couple items should be arriving tomorrow. However that gunhauler is my pile of shame.

Can we spin this in our favour? By hoarding all this plastic (especially the Sprues that would otherwise be discarded) aren't we actually helping the environment by stopping it getting into landfill and the oceans? 😁

I agree, however in the future, were going to reach a point where there is an almost critical mass of models, as almost no one throws them away (excluding special circumstances) which means that eventually GW doesn't need to produce models because we HAVE every model. And we just sell the ones we don't want.

Fair. Also I should not have bragged about having an absence of a pile of shame, as I now have a box and around 20-30 models sitting on my desk waiting to be primed.

Dude, I wish, If I had the storage room that mine was just that small. SO I could buy more models without remorse :D

Once again, very fair, it is a small amount of models, unfortunately I have only discovered this hobby in the past 3-4 months, so I haven't had the time required to buy truly amazing amounts of models. In the counter position to yours, i wish I had those models to build and paint. I am a very fast builder so I already have them built and based and primed, but oh man if I had that many boxes... I would be a very happy man.

What models are those ? It seems good quality ? Do you have a good 3D printer ?

I have the most garbage, poorly manufactured printer widely available, the monoprice select mini. The reason the miniatures look good comes down to two things, I'm using the right settings which I've gotten from a dude called "tomb of 3d printed horrors" and the models are designed specifically to work with fdm printers so the detail is nice and chunky and theyre constructed in such a way thay they don't need supports printed. Heres what they look like painted

Up close you can still see layer lines but they're more than fine at tabletop distance
