What do you think about this version?

To get the most out of the stardrake you want to go staunch plus castellant buff. Sadly the castellanr buff goes of in the hero fase. Makes it pretty anoying to alpha the stardrake in. And without both buffs he dies super easy

The requirement is 1 unit, nothing about the size. But Protectors are considered the strongest of the contained units by most and more of them allows for more starsoulmaces while the backrow gets to hit with their glaives thanks to the range. Decimators could in theory do the same but lose lots of attacks and don't have bonus damage vs monsters or bonus save against shooting, so Protectors it is.

Does one have to take 15 Protectors in this battalion?  My tome is still on order, though I saw on 1D4chan.org that they also had 15 protectors in the battalion.

I have some dudes I could convert to decimators and protectors.

i would look to much at the 4chan stuff. Some errors there and im not sure who is writing it. But from experience i would start with atleast 10 protectors.
Most succes i had with 10. That being said. 15 do very well in this battalion and some guys even doing games with 20 protectors.

For this battalion a strong base is something like this

1-lord celestant  ( this guy is mostly there to spend cp els he is tax)
2x5 liberators ( objective holders) you can bump these up if your going to go with the stormkeep theme. I feel 15 with a lord castellant are decent for homebase protectoin.
2x5 Judicators   i love the xbows but the bows are more populair. My reason for xbows is the output to kill screens. My meta plays with a lot of screens. And screens counter this battalion hardcore.
1x10 protectors <- damage dealers of this battaloin. max out the maces and put them on the front.
1x5 decimators <- tax and bodys to protect your protectors. This is my meatshield unit. Even against hordes they suck. Why? rend -1 and 1 damage attacks wont do enough in current meta.

stuff that has great synergie with this battalion is a knight vexillor for redeploy and a celestant prime. I won games by bringing down the prime turn 2/3 on a flank and then turn 4/5 teleport him to the other flank.

Still this battalion can struggle a lot against people who played against it. But first timers are in for pain;)

its sure cool but, To buff the lord celestant on stardrake with the lantern he needs to start on the board. I still feel like the lord celestant on stardrake wont do much in the skyborne slayers battalion. When i played the lord celestant on stardrake i always felt he needed MW protection and cannot played well without staunch defender+ lantern buff. In skyborne slayers this means you need to drop him on the board or gamble for the double turn. If you drop him with the battalion at 5 inch and charge him in. he doenst have that +2 armour save (1 from lantern 1 from staunch) and probly dies in combat pretty fast.

outside the battalion we could already let him engage turn one with a knight heraldor so the advantage is pretty much lost.
i would still play the les martin style over this if i want to go competative with a stardrake.

So now it is certain to be able to use a lord-celestant on mount?

In the absence of a specific FAQ, nothing is certain :D (******, this sounds like me teaching law)

I'd say that the argument in favour of the lord-celestant on mount being usable is stronger than before. I would still ask my TO / opponent about it

starting the game with drake and incantor on the field is too risky?

I’m gonna buy a drake(good choice?) and since I play skyborne why not mixing up something.

Whats your best advice for a drake in this battalion?I know it is similar to the @Archibald list but it's "similar not similar" XD

I have a question about the Celestail Vindicators. If you take this stormhost do the starsoul maces hit twice if they charge due to the command ability of the stormhost?

unfortunately not, Starsoul Maces don't use the standard attack sequence so they do not have an "attacks" value to start with.

I had a great victory against seraphon playing the classic core list + aventis, 2incantors, an exorcist and the comet.

The fact that I had a lot of mages negated seraphon's magic phase for almost 2turns and the comet helped a lot, first two turns wounded the group of enemy heroes and killed some skinks, than Skyborne come in and annihilated his left wing, 5sauros knight, 15chameleon, 10skinks and 2/3 heroes(2skinks mages and the stendard bearer).

At the start of the 3rd round I also won the initiative and seraphon's player conceded.

In that list is worthless grand convocation, that’s why:

-you don’t have the comet, that’s won me the game, with average rolls(1st comet rolled almost only 1MW each units, 2nd rolled 3MW on 2support heroes). This x3.😆 If in the future some points change and we could use Grand Convo plus comet, we could try it.

-tauralon and other mages get killed pretty quickly, since especially against seraphon there’s no real protection for them. Even if you remain with 2mages in your second turn you can’t benefit from the battalion anymore.

-why spend so many points for 4mages and 1battalion with only basic spells to cast?

Additional considerations are anyi-mages like Teclis, which is why mage-heavy in SCE should be avoided.

I don't disagree, but two incantors can really put pressure on Teclis: he would have to cast only one spell per turn for two turns to guarantee Protection of Teclis (without it, the LRL lists that you presently see crumble very fast)

I would ignore totally the mages in Lumineth. I play arcanum and incantor to dispell the buffs of mortal wounds in archers. With Skyborne I think any unit of Lumineth will fall down. They have one wound per model. I cut a unit of spearmen with a 5 man liberator unit. So ignoring heroes is what I do in these battles, idk if it is right or wrong.

How do you cut spearmans with 2+ sv with -1 to hit with liberator?

They have 4+ save. You don't engage when they are buffed. I didn't table the whole unit. It was a 1*10 vanari , I passed like 5-5 wounds plus the battleshock. The grandhammer did the work mostly.

They are using their gold when you choose to attack them. So they can wait for you.
