Skyborne Slayers - The Thread

With the possibility of dedicated discussions on everything stormcast I would like to start discussing one, if not the only, more or less viable low-drop Lists for Stormcast: The Skyborne Slayers.

At bare minimum it consists of:

How are you filling the remaining points? I´ve heard of Longstrikes and some heroes. I personally am pondering on increasing both paladins to 10man Squads and adding some support heroes.
What would a good Stromhost be? Vindicators seem nice, but going vanilla and adding a stardrake seems cool as well.

I have a couple of variations too. List 1 but dropping the Incantor and the CP to bump the protectors up to 10. Tonight I'm going to try list 1 without the Relictor, but with the Everblaze Comet instead, and the Scroll of Condemnation instead of the Mindlock Staff.

EDIT - It's 4 drops (3 with the comet) so I usually try to go second and play for the double. I'll generally start with the Relictor and Skybow Judicators on the table if I want the Incantor to be in range for the Mindlock Staff. If I'm using the Comet, I'll probably just start the Incantor on the table if the opponent has no way of reaching her.

I really like your idea of a 30 Block of Libs, potentially with a 2+ RR1 save. Reminds me of 30 Ardboys in your opponents face turn 1.

Have you thought about increasing the number of Juds? I believe they are not a lot less effective than Longstrikes, so dropping 20 of them to delete what you want seems nice.

Another question: Do you find to have mobility issues after your first drop? I was thining of adding a Vexillor fpr a guaranteed teleport or some prosecutors for obj grabbing and some pretty efficient ranged damage.

Hi guys,

I really like the idea of running a "Skyborn Slayer"-List at 1500 points, but I dont understand how this list can hold objectives for several turns or decimate the enemy fast enough.

Including "sword of judgement" to kill high priority units is understandable, but apart from that the damage output doesnt seem to be that high.

Do you have any advice for a newbie how to play this list?

At first glance it looks very CP hungry! Shooting in the hero phase and rerolling 1's in the shooting phase doesn't leave much for furious retribution... Especially if you're like me and fail 5" charges with alarming regularity, and need to burn more on rerolls;)

Not yet!

But i think i would usually count on no needing to reroll charge... Then 1 cp for shooting twice and 2 more for SoJ fuel up if its have good target.

Does Gavriel count as a Lord Celestant for purposes of Skyborne Slayers? He has Lord Celestant as keyword.

Ik building a skyborne slayer celestial warbringer list for redeploying my skyborne drops. Adding 1 knight vexillor upgrade my liberators to 10 and a prime. Feels oke

It's the Lord Celestant warscroll, not a LORD CELESTANT keyword. So no, much like no Celestant on Dracoth or Stardrake.

This is mine. Inspired by AdamR quite a while ago. What I like about it is that the only units that are deployed on the field are the birdman and the birds (who give him Look out, Sir! - initially anyway). Very CP-hungry, but the airdrop psych game often ties people in knots.

I think Decimators are fine without starsoul maces. They can easily get 7+ attacks against 25mm bases, where the maces kill 4 dudes tops. If the save is that relevant, send the Protectors in to starsoulmace them to death ;)

Would be lovely if we could pick two of any Paladin unit, though. I'm really not convinced of Protectors...

What the maces provide is some usefulness against ANY opposing unit. In Skyborne Slayers you often get to choose your initial match-up, but thereafter you will frequently not get the choice because of how laughably slow they are.

Some armies don't even have large units.

As someone who played skyborne slayers for like nearly 2 years straight : ALWAYS PICK STARSOUL MACE

Always. No question asked. 1D3 automatic mortal wound (ok, it can fail sometime, but in average, it's 1D3 MW) against everyone, ignoring all maluses to hit, attack, or bonus save ennemy is just too strong to pass up. It will always be better than the axe, except if you somehow manage to put your decimator across 5/6 guys (good luck to do this with 5 decimators).

It might be bias as i play vs Skaven a lot, but i think i'd get them within 2" of 10+ models regularly. Then again i get the point of redundancy/ diversity for the macrs.

Yep, against proper targets - hordes I always had 6-7 attacks per decimator on average.  However Maces are truly a must, back in the 1st edition I had 5 decimators kill drycha with them - a feat they won't be capable of with only axes.

It's the first GT of the year at Warhammer World this weekend, and I'm going to give the Slayers another run out.
My list is largely unchanged from the Blood and Glory list upthread, but I'm considering a few tweaks.

5 drop. Arkanaughts screen or sit on a home objective and are at least a little threatening, although I could replace them with skinks and try for a triumph.
Against magic heavy armies try to launch the maelstrom 26" forward from outside unbinding range and let it's 12" radius take care of the rest. Otherwise keeps Pha's Protection on the lib blob.

Well that didn't go to plan...

Anyway - Tweak #2, still 5 drop. Loses screen/cheap objective sitter/endless spell, but gains teleport for late game objective snagging and the potential to have a unit attacking the Liberator phalanx be -3 to hit, rerolling 6's. Which sounds like something I should try to pull off at least once.

Love it :D but I think as soon as Castellant goes down your Liberator Block will crumble to BS but as long as he is here , oh boy :) I see some salty tears running.

But imagine the faces when you drop them all of that in front of their noses :D

So, what's the consensus on the judicators from the Warscroll. Longbows ? Arbalests ? How many of them ?
