The Return of The Carrion King: Flesh Eaters Plog

Deep within Shyish, the Carrion King stirred. Change was coming. He could feel it in the air, in the soil, in the blood of those around him. Soon, he would return and cement himself as the saviour of his people. Soon, his noble kingdoms would unite, forming a new day of prosperity. The Carrion King rises, and the Flesh Eater Courts with him...

Hey guys, seen a bunch of these, so I figured I’d do my own as I started my 7th (god :(...) AoS army, the Flesh Eater Courts. I really love their lore and found Ushoran to be a tragic character, so right off the bat I wanted to make a model of him. To that end, I bought the Start Collecting Box and a Daemon prince kit, hoping to use the spare parts from the SC box to customise the Daemon Prince into a version of Ushoran. I think I’ll play him as a Varghulf.

I was surprised at how well the Vargheist head fit the body, almost perfectly. I melted/trimmed the Daemon Prince wings to fit the arm slots, which also naturally found some grooves. It almost made me think the kit was designed to have the wings put there as an optional build. I'll probably stick some more spikes and furs on his back, and cover up the Chaos iconography with some green stuff. As it is, I'm pretty happy with him.

Anyway, this is the result:

Ushoran had hid from Nagash for a millennia. Always moving, always running. Cowering in the mud for a betrayal that wasn't even his own. And yet, he had remained loyal. He knew the Undying King was misled in his pursuit of Ushoran. Mannfred had betrayed him. Caught in one of his twisted schemes, Mannfred had framed Ushoran and his cohort, shaming him and forcing him into the Shrouded Cage. Long did he rage and tear at the ephemeral bars of the spirit construct that held him, until his inner beast had risen to the fore. He didn't know for how long he lost himself in the bloodlust. For decades it must have been, for when his mind finally returned to him, he had become something else entirely. Mind forever fractured and broken, he managed an escape from the cage. Fleeing into the night, he found his loyal followers, still waiting him for in his old haunts and hidden kingdoms. Initially wary of his new form, they remained yet loyal, and fled to the dark places of Shyish. Ushoran travelled the realms in secret, harnessing his power and finetuning his savagery, spreading his vision and twisted sense of reality to those poor individuals who needed it most. To those who took on the blessings of the Carrion King, reality had become a curse. Better to live happily in a blind state than to suffer the truth of their ravaged existence.

Now the time had come, to marshal his forces, and lead a reckoning against the traitorous worm Mannfred. Only when he had bested his vile enemy could he return to the holy graces of the Undying one.

Love to get some feedback, and I’ll post the rest up soon

This looks great! This and the crypt ghoul knight/rider conversion are my two favorite work in progress FEC armies I have seen.

Haha thanks so much! There won't be too many conversions involved, though I would like to make a conversion of W'soran and play him as another Ghoul King.

Ushoran worked his magic, taping deep into the swirling vortex of necromantic energy that existed within Shyish. Drawing forth a momnumentous surge of dark energy, he plucked the wayward spirit he had been tracking from the ether. Screaming and shrieking in agony, Ushoran quickly grabbed the captive Vampire and through him forward. One of Mannfred’s vassels, the creature would not be missed. He signaled to As’halan, his Royal Advisor and Regent, to hold the Vampire down. As’halan was a loyal follower, the Ghoul King having followed Ushoran through his entire exile. Together they had planned this ritual for over a decade, capturing fragments of the lost spirit, filling in the missing pieces from remnants of Ushoran’s memory. Finally, they had everything they needed. Ushoran modded, and As’halan skit the vampires throat. As it’s lifeblood poured out, Ushoran placed a drop of his own dark ichor on the fiends tongue. With a snarl, he bound the wayward spirit to the Vampire’s shifting corpse. A nimbus of green energy enveloped the creature, before subsiding, revealing a gaunt and tortured shape in its wake. W’soran had returned, and the Scholar of Ghouls would prove vital in the war to come...

So finished up the Abhorrant Ghoul King and have begun work on my W’soran model. I want him to look like a Ghoul Wizard or priest, so to that end I made him more upright, and slightly more clothed. He needs to be cleaned up and smoothed our, but I’m pretty happy with him.

I’m unsure of what I should play him as. My intention was to use him as a Ghoul King, but he could be to small. A Ghast Courtier perhaps, but then he could be too weak for what I want the model to represent. The body is a Kairic Acolyte, and the rest of the add ons are Ghoul pieces.  Any advice welcome and critiques are doubly welcomed!

With As’halan, I envision the character as Ushoran’s right hand, the dependable warrior who will do whatever is needed, no matter how hard the task. I added a pair of wings to him to show his age.  The wings come from the Crypt Horror's kit in the SC box.

Wow, those 2 demon and vargeist kits really do go together well, looks great!

Not sure the Ushoran story so will have to check it out, sounds very tragic indeed - the minis are very well converted, looking forward to seeing some paint on them

Thanks very much! This is my first time converting more than a weapon or so and its really fun. Ushoran is a really cool character, who doesn't get as much love as he should imo.

Ushoran stood in the ruined castle he had claimed as his home. Ghoul's scuttled about his feet, humming and growling in content as they feasted on the remains of the Bloodreaver horde that had been camping in the ruins. Ushoran had vented his anger on the rage fuelled warriors, decimating their forces suddenly and violently. As he pondered his next move, a trio of Crypt Horror lumbered into the hall. The three brutes were his personal guard, protecting his flanks in battle. Savage and loyal, they were his chosen Knights. Ushoran strode into the grand hall, falnked by his bodyguards. Inside he found W'soran and As'halan arguing over the war map they had found.

W'soran had taken to his new form and life with a vengeance, his gratitude towards Ushoran for returning him to life superseding his innately duplicitous nature. The two of them had a storied history, and this only further strengthened their bond. As'halan was indicating a large estate on the edges of Mannfred's territory.

"We can take this region and use it as a stronghold. Marshal our forces from here, and strike deep into the curs lands." W'soran shook his head.

"No, we burn it. We burn everything we take, every piece of land we claim. We burn the traitors kingdom, and then when he has nowhere left to go, we burn him as well..."

Finished up everything from the box, so I'm going to start painting. I'm thinking of doing a pale white skin, with black markings and patterns. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know.

Nice use of the giants tombstone weapon

I'm really enjoying these short bits of story your posting too, a friend of mine just finished his Zombie Dragon and I know it's one of his favorite minis to put together

Can't wait to see some paint, black markings will look great. I think with pale skin multiple thin black washes down to the hands and feet look really good too, gradually getting closer to the hands with each one, they end up with that Walking dead type feel to them

Good luck with the painting bud

Thanks man! I'm hoping to give the black an almost symbiote (Venom from marvel) look, though I don't know if I can pull that off. Fingers crossed.

I'm trying to organise a kind of aos Pilgrym, I was just thinking Ushoran would be great as the leader of  a death warband. The idea is to have quite a few fully converted warbands, and maybe eventually cumulate in a huge multiplayer game at Warhammer World

That sounds awesome! Unfortunately I'm Australian, don't think I can be much help from down here :/
