Any chance of some more sub boards?...40K??

Recommended Posts

As the title. This place seems to be the friendliest place to be online at the moment for the AoS community. Its got a similar vibe to the early days of the old WPS forum that eventually became the Warhammer Forum.

A sub board for 40K and also Specialist Games would be great. Not sure how much work would be involved but I'm pretty sure it would be popular!

Well, both Shadespire and Warhammer Quest have sub forums of their own, would say Blood Bowl needs a forum as well but other than that (and some kind of a 40k sister forum) I don't feel there's much need for other sub forums for specialist games, but I might be overlooking some specialist games.

That may be because of the restricted player base that AOS has vs 40k.... and letting in the 40k crowd will inevitably bring in the need for tighter moderation.

I'd guess part of the good vibes here is that there's a sense of AoS being an underdog title...we want to see it succeed. The BB groups used to be more like this when it was oop...prior to the BB16 release.

I'd be concerned the masses that come with 40K could sink the friendly vibe in place. I'd proceed with caution here

I guess it would be a case of suck it and see. Suitable warnings that this is a place for positivity and trolling wouldn't be tolerated.

But, I'm new here and enjoying my first foray into the Mortal Realms, so happy to use this purely for my AoS fix!

It'd be interesting to see. I do feel some of the trepidation of others.

Is "suck it and see" a thing? xD

These are both fair points.  Maybe it's the games themselves that foster the negativity, or just those particular players who push their playstyles on other players.  Or maybe the actual design and layout of the other forums make it a negative place to browse and post?  (I think TGA is one of the most appealing-to-the-eye websites I have visited in a while as well.)

I would rather keep this forum clear of those negative attitudes than spread out on this site.

Although if we limit those other sub-forums to have just one general 40K and one general "other wargames" sub-forum, that might be a good indicator that AoS is the primary game here, and we are just providing a place on this site to share 40K interest.

Personally, id like to keep this AoS pure. While I have started playing 40K 8th because I want to see what the fuss is about, its not my main game nor will it be.. i enjoy X-Wing and Armada more in all honesty.

I come here to read on AoS threads and use Tapatalk with the Timeline tab, I can read all the replies and threads at my leisure. However, if 40k thread were to incorporated, Id have to bother searching for individual boards etc and sort through the 40k topics.

Small rant coming...

40k gets plenty of attention... too much in my opinion and GW caters to those players like a kid in a candy store. It actually feels like we have our individual home here and I don't have to worry about more 40k getting their propaganda or influence. The way 40k has been rolled out.. granted is very well done (probably too well) and GW has learned which can be good for future game revisions... is too overplayed in my opinion and no matter where I go online I feel its being jammed down my throat. It also feels like a bit of salt on an open wound in comparison to AoS.

... end rant

Sorry, not trying to be negative, but really wanted to get my point of view and thoughts on this out. I've got nothing bitter with 40k as a game and understand that its GW's bread and butter... but if half the attention of this new 40k and rules development went into AoS, the game may not play second fiddle anymore.. or at least could be a much bigger income to GW.

It really feels like the struggle with work experience.. where you can't get hired unless you have experience but you can't get experience unless you get hired. Lol.

So there's my reasons to not have a 40k board, probably unwarranted biased ones, but their there nonetheless. Lol.

I would like to see a sub forum for other games, as well as painting and modelling. I've been playing Shadow Wars Armageddon since that came out, and despite the nerd rage of it being unavailable the forums are dead for that game. I haven't played a game of AOS in ages, just don't have that much time in real life at the moment for multiple games especially not large scale ones, but I still visit this forum as I like it, the discussions are interesting and knowledgeable.

I am genuinely not sure if there should be a sub forum or not though, it seems like opening a can of worms. I think if it were just the people who used this site it would be fine, but if it would invite the 40k crowd at large in it might sour the entire site.

An option could be to set up a sub forum, if it gets out of hand dissolve it, if it is successful expand to a sister site.

This is what Ben said about it anyway, so the whole thing might be moot.

"i'm not going to be adding 40k here but I am considering launching a partner forum to cover 40k with the same ethos as TGA.  It seems a busy space though and i'm not sure if 40k needs another forum."

Morning,

This forum should remain AoS pure IMO.

I love 40K and would love a great 40K forum just like this one! Knowing @Ben I'd be utterly surprised if he doesn't have something in mind (though he's been busy with family life of late!).

The easy option would be to add a sub forum here, but like others have said I think that diluting the player base in attendance could have a detrimental effect on the good feeling vibe we have (for the most part! ;)).

So I'm all for trying to replicate what we have here for 40K, I'd just rather we kept it separate.

I think it's a testament to the community here, that I have definitely thought "I would like to discuss X on the TGA". Whether that's 40k, Bloodbowl, or some other thing in the world.

But I think it's fine as it is. I think as soon as you start crossing games, it can lead to poor discussions where no doubt, someones whose main game is 40k comes into an AoS thread and starts poking around, or vice versa. It's something that has to be more heavily moderated, that's for sure.

So I don't think it's necessary, Would be nice to discuss 40ks around here (As someone, who probably won't get back into it, but has dabbled with the thought), but I think some other community will pop up some place to fill the gap.

I think @Chris Tomlin has a very valid point. While at the same timke I too think that the positive vibe is not something exclusive to AoS but is general typical to newer forums. No insane postcounts and years of contribution making the one member "more legit" as the other. It's the advantage of a newer game that nobody really is a veteran and thus has to apply such an additude.

For 40K I personally see it the same with the edition changes knowing that some do not see it that way. To me however 8th 40K is typical in its great design and designs it got right from AoS, making it a great game.

Wether or not to have a forum of 40K on this forum I would like to see one linked to The Grand Alliance community. Perhaps with the main page having an option to get to the one or the other but still having them in one easy accesable place. Because I do agree, too many sub-forums on one forum is kinda bound to become too large for comfort.

In that same vein, if Shadespire is all out and running I think a seperate forum for it also wouldn't be a bad eventual plan. It is much closer to AoS, thats certain but also a completely different game. 40K and AoS also have some overlap but currently remain two completely different games.

This topic has come up a few times and I expect it will come up again, it seems like people would like a place to discuss other games with this community but not on this site. A sister site would seem to be the answer.

With the new 40K ruleset cribbing a lot from AoS...I can see a lot of 40K vs AoS topics thrown up if we brought on 40K. They may even initially be created from place of good intent, but I think it could change the overall tone of this forum. As is, this place is a positive celebration of AoS...too frequent 40K vs AoS threads and we'll find ourselves defending AoS which is very different discussions...not something I want to do or see a lot of. That is, argue with players of other games about why AoS is or isn't better.

My vote goes to this site staying AoS exclusive.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys,

I'm catching this late.

I'm not going to be adding other games to this forum.  Looking at the bigger picture, the best thing for TGA is to keep it focused on what it does best.  AoS and the AoS realms.  The includes Quest and Shadespire but not anything else.

There are tons of places online for 40k chat already, some of them very good.
