I guess Cities of Sigmar is also always a strong contender when Stormcast are involved. Probably the easiest way to run a bunch of miniatures from different factions in one army. They even have some dragons of their own!

True, my only concern is I already have so many CoS armies 😅 Though I suppose It would give me an excuse to run some outriders converted to look like mongolian horse archers... (I've always liked their style in Medieval 2 total war)

I will definitely have a consider of CoS though and see if I can keep it with a small model count. Hadn't thought of combining the CoS dragons and Stormcast Drakes. That could work quite nicely.

Fun lore! Is this supposed to be a Cathay/China homebrew faction?

Definitely massively inspired by Cathay due to my enjoyment of my Miao Ying playthrough on total war 3, tabletop wise I'm planning to use a pre-existing battletome and make them a counts-as sort of conversion project though I'm still fully settling on which faction. I was originally going to do stormcast dragons but have since realised as cool (and low model count!) as they are they may be a touch too oppressive as a pure army currently.

I like those conversions a lot. Are all the guns and swords from Freeguild kits or do you use 3rd party/3D printed bits?

My leftover free guild bits, I will need to probably find 3d printed bits for future ones though as these were difficult conversions (and I'm out of guns) the swords are a mix of free company and greatswords though, you get looooads spare in a greatsword box which is nice.

I like the idea going for #2, but I have a better suggestion: For a 2000 point game, the closest to losing 1800 points, without going over. Ideally, the more you lose, the more the higher ups are to see your point of view, but lose too many and they lose confidence you can win the campaign.

Ahh that's a really interesting idea! Thanks ^_^

Maybe you can go for a very dark basing to make them pop out even more? Lovely colourscheme! :)

Yeah I'll probably have a look through the citadel texture paints again and see some nice dark ones. Would definitely contrast well against the brightness!

And thank you! I wasn't too sure about it at first (especially the change from purple to pink in the hair and loincloths) but as I've added more to it it's really come together :)

Looks great!!  Love the whole ghost pirate vibe you'v got with your characters

Congrats on getting an army painted btw...something I totally still haven't achieved no mater how many times I say I'll do it haha

where did you get your tricorn hats from? I'm chasing some for a admiral conversion myself

I made them from greenstuff using this tutorial:

It's a bit fiddly and takes some practice and patience but it's really not hard to do at all :) And it lets you style and shape them in whatever way you want! You can also do cavalier hats and bicorns with the same method.

This is great!  I love the idea of the Grey Warden theme too.  Could try and get a chalice in somewhere...

I was gonna use some DoK bits to make a nomad prince conversion... I am now realising I could totally use the hag witch's chalice! I'll probably wait until the books out to see if I'll want a nomad prince but I'll definitely have to use that for a hero conversion. Cheers for the idea!

this looks sick! how did you convert from King to Queen?

edit: I now see there is a "blog" section you posted WIP stuff

I'm happy to answer questions on any pieces you're unsure about. I'm also gonna be able to post the picture of it completed (with water effect base) when I get it back from the shop :)

Of the three heads you posted, my favorite would be the second one.

A personal suggestion: have you considered using the Mistweaver Saih head? Her smooth mask is quite disturbing which is fitting for an army of soul-stealing raiders. And it doesn't reflect any emotion so it goes well with the Idoneth fluff where they try to feel less emotions so that they can avoid Slaanesh and the memories of their captivity.

I was considering getting mistweaver for a conversion... That head would possibly be a good option. Though I do also like the idea of using her for a tidecaster.

I think I'm leaning towards second one of those options too tbh!

I'm loving how this project is coming together! The idea of a bunch of sky pirates just ominously coming from the fog/clouds is a great concept to work off of. Makes me wish I had the time and money to take some of my crazy army ideas and run!

Thanks! This army is my first biiiiig army conversion project. And to tell the truth is a very slow burn project due to the costs and time it takes to do the conversions. Probably had it as a project for nearly half a year now and only just almost at a playable 2k list built.

It's worth it for me though, i love converting so having a full army project I can mess around with has been nice. Thankfully I've kept costs down due to having a rather large bits box nowadays so only needed to buy kharadron stuff mostly.

As a broke college student at least half of my models are second hand so I feel you on the painting troubles. I've seen a lot of people start KO armies lately, what's the hype about? They look great but from what I've heard there performance is pretty sub par and they ain't the cheapest to collect (I know money isn't an issue for some people but still) so what's been the big draw to them lately?

For me it started when i got the conversion idea for shadow pirates and my doppleganger cloak admiral kitbash. The project sounded so fun i had to do it!

No clue about everyone else though. It's odd for what is a rather poor army to see a large surge but probably mostly comes down to aesthetic. They're such a unique and very AoS theme. But I'm not sure really I'm afraid!
