  1. Some systems have hit modifiers for soft cover and armour modifiers for hard cover. The end effect is not so different, though the minus modifier could have some impact on the "triggers on 6+ to hit" abilities. I would still say that the los based on size stats and 2 dimensional base coverage would still be the most simple and accurate as it doesn't require scooping on the board level.
  2. The volumetric cylinder type thing is good, but very time consuming and not so accurate (this from a long time Infinity player). I would like to have the good old "units block los from similar size or smaller units", but that would require a size charasteritic for everything. The rules are abstracted any how, so I can't see that having a strick wysiwyg line of sight would be good in any way. Especially for terrain such as forests and hills that need to balance the playability with esthetics. That said, we typically play the forests so that they block los through, just to allow the moving and removal of individual trees to ease gaming. Typically otherwise it's case by case. If there are lots of models/other stuff in between the shooter and the target, then the los is blocked (even though you probably could see a spot of the model behind) , but if it's just a single guy, then it's not. By the way, the los was main reason I didn't like 8th edition. For some reason the general consensus was that for los purposes everything was ignored, and then everyone complained how war machines are overpowered. Somehow this got in to the 9th age rules as well, although I guess it had a hit roll for cannons.
  3. Well, I guess the new dwarfs will eventually show if the shooting is powerful or not. At least looking at the amount of guns they have. I don't have so much against the power of it, but it just is bit boring compared to close combat where you have all sorts of pile in manouvers to consider, while the shooting is more or less point and click. 40k is good indication what happens when you put too much shooting in to this kind of i go you go mechanic and in there it is even more restricted as you can't shoot in melee.
  4. In our games we have usually around 10+ terrain elements on board with house rules for forests blocking los through them. I feel it makes the games more interesting when there is more terrain which has more effects. Of course in tournaments it might be bit too much for the organizer to have that amount of terrain. Still LoS blocking obstacles usually make gaming more interesting if there is shooting involved, no matter the game system.
  5. Wouldn't 3"-30" range just mean that the judicators in combat couldn't shoot the enemies they are fighting, but they could shoot (almost) any other enemy on the board?
  6. Yes, I meant for matched play. As it is the only one that has any restrictions, I thought that it would be obvious.
  7. I said I don't want to stop it totally, but just limit the shooting into those enemies that are engaging the shooting unit. At least I feel it would increase both the immersion and the tactical options. The elves in the Lord of the rings were alo shooting their opponnts from point blank, not some other advancing orcs from the distance.
  8. I think a limitation, that shooting while within 3" of enemy would only be allowed to enemies within 3" could be good for the game, looking at the amount of skyfires and kurnoth hunters in the tournament reports. This would give more tactical choices to shooting and prevention of it. This could be taken model per model, so by forming your units right, the front warriors could slow down the offenders, while the back ranks could still fire further, but also would allow fast cavalry and such to be able to harrass the shooters better. But to be clear, I wouldn't want to stop shooting totally when engaged.
  9. There wer tons of rumours for the dwarves with quite detailed descriptions about "balloon jump packs" and such for some time. It turned out to e more epic though.
  10. Bretonnia taken to the 11 would be cool. So chivalric medieval force with fantastic otherworldy mounts and blazing magical weapons.
  11. About battleline units. It would be nice if there would be some choices that you could take once as battleline and further units wouldn't count. It would allow some variation for battleline units without the possibility of just taking three times the best. Also this way you could maybe tone down some bit too good battleline units without messing up them totally.
  12. I think it would be simpler to abstract the Los in sense (like with when you shoot through an unit or through terrain) instead of the True line of sight as it is in the rulea currently, where at worst you have to use laser pointers and peek across the table. But on the other hand, it's easily house ruled. Essentially the True Los vs abstract Los is same kind of thing as measuring from model vs measuring from Base.
  13. This would be nice, and wouldn't need to be matched play only. True Los is the only big thing I don't like in AoS. It can be easily house ruled, like cover that we usually elaborate bit more (stuff like rivers halving the move and forests and hills blocking the Los), but it would make the rules lot more solid if there was some penalty for shooting through stuff. It just feels so wrong. A -1 to hit from each intervening unit would be good.
  14. I have a feeling that this is from some big monster for the Shadow elves. well at least I hope so...
  15. Don't know about points, but last time I calculated I got over thousand painted models, after that the number should have increased by couple of hundreds. I would say 1500 can be quite close. Two big old fantasy armies (lizards and dwarfs), chaos daemon army that I've just updated for AoS purposes, eldar, dark eldar, tau and csm for 40k (that I haven't played for two years, and from which eldar and csm are quite large), over hundred infinity models, a dropzone commander army, Arabs and Irish for Saga, an Algoryn and Freeborn armies for Gates of Antares and all sorts of more random forces (Batman, Frostgrave, etc.).

    Daemonettes

Some old school daemons with new life.
  17. Wow, I'm impressed how different things are across the gulf. Largest AoS tournament in Finland has had 4 players I think
  18. I didn't rage too much, but my interest in classical Warhammer fell down after the release of daemons, dark elves and vampires for 7th edition. I played few games every now and then , but with 8th edition the remaining interest waned. I played less than 10 games of 8th. Initially I wasn't too impressed with AoS either, especially as it felt like 40k, for which I lost love bit later. However after closer inspection I started to like the nuances of the game and the first test game really sold it for me. It was also a perfect reason to dust out my old 40k daemon army and my lizardmen. I managed to get some really nice old metal additions for both, so I have a big heat to get gaming more to have a motivation to get the models painted. However in Finland the game is pretty much dead, even though the books and minis clearly sell in the stores, it's bit of hard to get a match agreed. I'm now trying to push the game bit more in to the headlight and I'm arranging an event at our club to gain interest. Also an old friend of mine who is a long time WH player and with whom we played the first test game just bought some Stormcast, so I think the situation will improve quickly.

    Blood Warriors

These are very nice. Yellow really does justice for these models and the hue is perfect.
