  1. Looking at putting some Duardin in my mix. Comparing say allied Auric Hearthguard and a tunneling Runesmiter, vs a Runelord and Irondrakes....which would be generally more desirable? I rather like the tunneling potential, but I know from experience how hard those Irondrakes can shoot when all Runed-up. Kinda cool that Tempest's Eye could have all 3 Duardin types in there too. Guess my Phoenix could keep up with the floaty ships too.
  2. Thanks for this info! I was thinking the Phoenix would make a good general, nice and fast, pretty tanky with the Anointed Ward. Makes good sense to get some Phoenix Guard then, or similarly looking high Aelves. I like their 2" range too, and we do need masses of bodies to score objectives afterall (sorry steam tanks). That said, maybe I'll get a Steam Tank too and have a cat driving it. I see your points about no new tome soon. Kinda good though, that way I can just wait to see what I can get cheap and let fate decide....but not Dark Aelves, they just don't have a positive attitude :)
  3. Just got my first Cities model yesterday, a Frosty/Flaming Phoenix. Always loved that model. But before I go wild and gather battlelines and support heroes, do we think Cities will be getting a new tome any time soon? I was looking forward to making a rather diverse army, probably using a few IDK allies for speed and weirdness, but could the allies and coalitions change significantly? If one were to use a Phoenix, is the Frostheart more favored these days? I noticed it hits better with the talons but lacks the MW overpass attack. Either one is pretty. I also have a Lord Arcanum on GryphCharger and 2 Concussors I'll be using in there (my only Stormcast models). Not sure which direction to go for battleline. Maybe just FreeGuild Gunners? They seem an all around cheap decent choice if a General is nearby.
  4. Congratulations on the Kragnos prize! He's a pretty awesome model, though I would recommend trading him to someone for a megagargant or something else for Ogors. I would also have been surprised/disappointed at no wins with that army. Seems like with all the ramming power of the Stonehorns they should have been able to deal with that stuff (though Hand of Dust through the portal is a fansastic trick I've not seen or heard of....I have luckily guessed correctly both times I've been Dusted).
  5. I do have a bunch of green contrast paint. That's probably a good enough reason to make a unit of the little boogers.
  6. Oh yeah, the old Sourbreath Trolls. Those are in Legends now I think. Nice thing about the Fellwaters and Rockguts is they hit on 3+. Wish my Bullgors would do that! I'll proxy my Yhetees as some Rockguts in a practice game and see how they do. Still not convinced on Gnoblars. They'd require the Tyrant too, and still, they're a 6+ armor save. I think they'd disappear fast than Rockguts, though they can spread out a bit wider to make larger screen. Maybe if they get some more nasty tricks in the next tome (like various trap thingies to do) then I'd make a unit.
  7. I wouldn't say only being able to run Acolytes in 10-15 is too bad. I mean in Skryre they're battleline right? So you could run 4x10, plus some Stormfiends. They can all still shoot stuff!
  8. Warhammer Skaven Acolyte 30 Heads Backpacks Hands (A2JJ7BXZZ) by CarvedMetal (shapeways.com)
  9. Anyone try some allied Troggoths with the Ogors yet? I'm wondering if the Rockguts or Fellwaters could fill some tarpit holes. While a Stonehorn Beast Rider is pretty durable, Rockguts are cheaper and the same wounds, just with a slightly worse armor save and their rend-2 hits better. I like the Fellwaters for their -1 to hit them in combat and they are about like Ironguts in damage output. Troggoths regenerate too. Or do the Troggs just not fill any real utility role for the Ogors?
  10. I have to agree, trade or sell Kragnos for 2 more FLoSHs or a Gatebreaker Megagargant at that point level, while not including the 2pack of Mournfangs. You have enough battlelines for 3K points at 4 units. Kragnos CAN do some amazing damage on occasion, but he's actually pretty easy to take down even with a 2+ armor save, and he brackets harder than a Gatebreaker megagargant (which is cheaper, twice the wounds without heavy bracketing, and can walk over stuff and do MW on the charge similarly to multiple units, and about equal damage dealing in combat). So actually, a Gatebreaker + 8 Leadbelchers= 885, and Kragnos + 2 Mournfangs=880; that works out with your 15 spare points. I'd recommend Big Drogg Fortkicka as he's the Gatebreaker but also has that MW death breath thing for extra awesome.
  11. Sounds like they got some tools; definitely worth getting a Loonshrine for that suballegiance. Got the new app on my new phone now so I can check it out. I like that the kits for the Rockguts and Fellwaters have multiple arm and head options for mixing up the unit looks a bit. Along with my Bullgor army I'd have the most 50mm bases of anyone I know.
  12. I keep thinking I want to start an Order army, but I just keep looking at Troggoths again and again. What was that alternate Troggoth allegiance again? And is it still viable/legal in AoS3.0? I know the Troggoths can regenerate better or something under Da Bad Moon in the normal Gitz allegiance. I was thinking 1 or 2 Fungoid Shaman would be good just for spells and CPs but otherwise there's a good diversity of the Trogg units now with the Kruelboyz allies. I just need money (and my Ogors don't have Greasus Goldtooth in their ranks).
  13. They look like that because they're hunting for the colored eggs.
  14. I was thinking vs 20 pinks, as that gave me sooooo much trouble in 2 different games. The splitting is just super good, and each incarnation still gets to shoot stuff. Personally I think that MW should just get rid of models and not permit splitting. Even for their points they're undercosted. I've tried Ironguts and Stonehorns too and they all struggle. They could probably just change the Eternal Conflagration to only affect Flamers/Exalted Flamers and that would help (the rend -1 shooting is what makes them over the top).
  15. Yes indeed! Totally legal at 1000 points. Just like walking around a protest with a loaded AR-15 in certain states.
  16. On paper, but the Horrors are usually shooting at the gargants first, and subracting 1 from hit rolls because of the Tzeentch Locus (in a Tzeentch army anyway). And if the gargants are softened up enough they are somewhat bracketed. But true, 2 Gatebreakers can probably take out a unit of Horrors IF they have Idiots with Flags and All Out Attack going and not vs a Tzeentch army.
  17. Looking to get an Order army going next year. Is there a way to incorporate the Annointed Phoenixes with Lumineth in Cities armies?
  18. Oh Legion of the First Prince! They whooped my butt a month or two ago. 4 megas struggle hard vs hordes of Horrors and strong magic with many Mortal Wound dealing spells (I have personally failed miserably using my megagargants against Tzeentch and LotFP.) Belakors ability was very good against me. Kairos was amazing against me, and not just his dice change thing; he did like 20 wounds over the course of the battle in combat AND delivered the deathblow to my Kraken Eater. Outflanking units/summoned units can also help to mitigate objective control and to accomplish the Battle Tactics. Take some monsters so you can try to Roar one in your turn to prevent the 3+ armored megagargant from happening. Spells and CAs to limit movements and charges are your best friends. I have all Chaos-themed megagargants so mine should be immune to all this
  19. Underguts do, or Underguts don't. Underguts so-so.......spleeech! Just like grape.
  20. I have better luck using my Ogors dice with the SoBs than my puny Beasts of Chaos dice. Try some 20mm or larger dice next time!
  21. Holy cow that's an amazing record! Any armies you haven't faced? Even with Breakers just seems like they would struggle to get through tons of Horrors (Lord knows I failed hard at that) or other resilient hordes. I sold off my Mancrushers, mainly cuz I didn't like the models. But I may have enough bits left to make another 2 Chaos Dwarf mini-constructs (which would jive with my theme). 2 warscrolls to remember makes for easy brainfogged Warhammering
  22. For converting cheap and plentiful Plague Monk or Clan Rat bodies to Acolytes, I plan to use these: Warhammer Skaven Acolyte 30 Heads Backpacks Hands (A2JJ7BXZZ) by CarvedMetal (shapeways.com) But I gotta finish up some other projects first.
  23. I, strangely, have not had any mirror matches yet. But I've heard Taker Tribe helps with that, though I think if you could go first with a Breaker Tribe (bossy pants) and smash into the mirror, 2 on 1, you could probably kill off or strongly bracket the enemy's 2 megas. Are you using 2 Boss of the Stomp battalions? That's probably a must-have for a 4 mega list.
  24. Gutbusters are WAAAAAY more fun! I mean, unless you want to win more games than you lose. But seriously, I think a combo Ogors army works very nicely actually. I think of it like substituting 8 Ironguts for a FLoSH, usually about equal in performance. Substituting 8 Leadbelchers for a HoTT also about equal in performance. Substituting 4 Mournfangs for 6 Gluttons however, Mournfangs win all day long with either weapon build. Even with all BCR stuff I can't imagine not having at least 1 or 2 Slaughtermasters/Butchers in there with them.
  25. So should Bullgors. 50mm bases should always count as 2 models.
