  1. I'm sure you can compete with Harvestboon and Winterleaf if you wanted to build a combat oriented army. Winterleaf is weaker since you get the exploding hit on a 6 and I'm not sure what big guys get 6A when swinging and you want to think about big guys. Sylvaneth have good big guys/gals right now. Rob is,.. good and bad. He's a driving force for good things in AoS and also at the same time completely ignores and stomps over things that aren't top meta in tournament lists. Not everyone plays at that level and the majority of games of AoS on the whole are pick up games not tournament games. He railed against Behemoths constantly and then it turned out months later they were great. So all that damage he does to a scene was not undone. But like any celebrity they are popular by being seen be that good or bad comments. I'm not a fan of poisoning the well then walking away. If you find a glade that has appeal and find you are having some enjoyment or success isn't that the goal? Slow natural development is more helpful for generalship than internet WAAC lists.
  2. Okay you handsome fine folks, I am looking some positive outlook help here. With 2 kids and a mortgage and one income I'm fixed on this army and also,.. slightly aesthetically self handicapped. My collection is nearly all Juan Diaz (erm,.. and Jes Goodwin) sculpts. I have the following and want to see about some good options. All chariots are converted to have Juan Diaz girls on them. I haven't played in a few months (my games were with Sylvaneth and Living City old wood elf player ) but with kiddos back in school soon (hopefully) I can resume with a local guy. I also play competitively but causally. Which is: 10 Twinsouls (using 1987 Chosen Champions of Slaanesh) 60 Daemonettes 3 Seeker Chariots 20 Seekers of Slaanesh Masque Synessa Be'lakor Syll'Esske (converted from Jes Goodwin sculpts) contorted epitome Infernal Enrapturess 2 Hellflayers Exalted chariot 12 Harpies/Furies 6 Fiends 5 Hellstriders Sigvald Shardspeaker 3 Slaangor, 2 Soul Grinders I'm thinking about Lurid haze with Sigvald, Synessa, Masque maybe, Epitome, Godseekers (unsure if you need to be invanders to take Lurid Haze), 3x Seeker Chariots as BL in some config, the Twinsouls (I could fine something to use as a Lord of Pain). I'm fond of my chariots and in the past they've done well for me in 40k. Perhaps run them as heroes? I love Fiends, Seekers and Daemonettes and was wondering if I have to resort to strictly summoning them. I was wondering about units of 5 Seekers for early chaff beating up or a unit or two of 10 as some fast muscle. I also have lots of plastic daemonette bitz and glade guard kicking around so I could easily do 11 Blissbarb Archers and possibly 20. I guess,.. I could be that guy that took all my old Glade Guards, Way Watchers, Sisters of the Watch and play like 90 Blissbarbs,,... but I want to use my daemonettes. I like them a lot and they are painted nicely. What are the legs in a collection like this and if so what should I focus on? Thanks kindly
  3. Make it so people cannot complain about rules changes when a new edition drops unless they've played at least a couple dozen games.
  4. ohhh,.. thanks kindly. that helps me remember why I would see +2. I play living city, i should check that sub-thread if you are posting there I totally forgot Warherd got that in Broken Realms. Hmmm thinking about them again. kind thanks gents.
  5. Arzalyn summed it up. Use her as a hero with a good save that can take advantages of the benefits in 3rd ed that monsters and heroes get. Just take her as a casting hero with a good save.
  6. Consider trying to find a PDF or printing the warscroll while you can. Softbacks are printed when hardbacks are sold out and they want another wave of books. So my guess is you would need to find a hardback at a Local Gaming Store that still has some in stock (not a GW store) or used. She's viable in 3rd edition but I am not sure she is viable to build and army around (implying that you would take Spite Revenants which are the weakest of the three BattleLine choices). I woudl get a box of Tree Revenants and try to scrounge 4 more Dryads from someone. That would get a decent BL set up. You aren't far off a starting list. Tree lord ancient, alarielle and making bow hunters is a start.
  7. How much better for Bullgors? (warherd)? I have 24 Bullgors. I was thinking about taking a unit of 9 BL. But to do that I lose DOs as BL which is our better choice... I know 9 Bullgors struggles with a few mechanics. I also have 3 Ghorgons and a Cygor. I liked running them last edition but they weren't good. And I don't own enough cockatrices (1,.. so yeah) to make the MW spam work.
  8. Well good is so subjective. People would argue things that are OP and broken are good. Also you can have internal vs external balance within a Battletome. And as gamers we LOVE telling people what we think On that note my opinions,... Right now Sylvaneth don't have a good battletome but they improved for 3rd ed and have some good options, have the ability to do well in pick-up games and aren't bottom tier like they were a year ago. Why is the book bad? A lot of their traits, abilities, items etc could be on warscrolls and it would improve those warscrolls and book. What you can actually take is limited. Dryads and Spite Revs are bad. Dryads being a poor choice as,. outside of 10 or just summoning them, they don't improve. I am not sure the army will do well long term in this edition. What made Sylvaneth good in previous editions was conga-line dryads and alpha strike. arguably both negative play experiences for opponents. I had a game like that and my opponent and i had to reset our match 10 min later and scrub that off. granted he could have just deployed better but it was part learning experience, part "this is pretty powerful". Beasts of Chaos are a bad battletome because they cannot perform in last edition nor this. At least last edition you could take units of ungors to chaff onion protect your sort of better units. In that battletome a lot of their warscrolls got worse, command abilities got worse, spells have unhelpful ranges, they have no ability to improve their spellcasting. They also have units that give away things like Broken Ranks incredibly easy. They suffer from bad stats, which is amplified by dice spiking, something that AoS was doing a great job moving away from that plagued pre-8th ed editions of the old Fantasy. They also have ignorant stats (Bullgors who physically have a 2" long weapon have a shorter reach than Dryads who have,.. and regular length,. humanoid forearm".
  9. Their +1 is a warscroll ability not a subfaction ability. So Bullgors should still get that unless I'm mistaken? This has been a point of contention since she was released. Granted I've used her new warscroll and in this edition and if you are reserved with her and make her more active turns 3-5, with her heals it's less an issue. She can really dominate a table.
  10. Very interesting find. thanks for sharing. oh man so cool. the local manager bought two of the boxes. I love painting the Slaangors and will probably field them (no longer playing tournaments) for the rule of cool (well cool looking)... I will stick with just the 3 for now Do coalition units get any allegiance abilities? Are those bullgors and Bestigors getting exploding 6s etc? Or are they just operating on their own here? causally points at BoC battletome,. <cough cough,.> oh and the last one in 2010,.. and ... maybe the 2004 one,.. O_o... one of life's great mysteries indeed. At any rate I was painting a converted Seeker chariot last night, thinkin gof the usual crew here and wanted to add happy holidays to whomever for whatever. Hope you are all safe and well.
  11. What are you expecting more bodies to do? I'm not certain dryads are going to do more than just die from attrition or,.. well faster. Don't fixate on summoning them. I'm not sure I've summoned these days more than 10 and it was late game as a lark. Tree Revs blocking for a single turn is what you expect from them. Between Alarielle, the bow hunters, spells you should be dealing with the synergistic threats you are removing. That way Alarielle can go deal with threats as a combat beast in turns 3-5. I've faced hard units of 30 hard-to-shift units before and alone they can sit on one. Between me capping other objectives and getting my objectives I didn't really have a great concern? I'm not sure what Blood Knights do but I wasn't sure how your bows were immediately threatened if you had Tree Reventants. Also they could unleash hell and would have gotten rr saves (are blood nights -2 or -3 rend?). Did 5 Blood Knights take out 6 Hunters one turn? I would say since this was a rare game for you, a single game isn't a good test sample. If you are unhappy with the list and playstyle by all means consider changes if you have the models. I found the list in a casual competitive setting this list is incredibly strong. My closest opponent however is the top player around so we have some good analytical conversations. What was your primary? Keep at least one caster alive? Alarielle hasn't been this strong. Oh also she can drop 20 Dryads. If you plop them near your place of power they should survive 2 turns. Just,.. keep at it, and don't get too discouraged from one loss. Try to think if you did a few things different could the outcome have been different?
  12. woot, love it. Not being sarcastic, I love that it appears Craftworld is getting some love. oh man that's an bad head. Not to pick on you, kudos if you like the design. I wouldn't be telling that ugly thing my deepest desires. I wish they had have done that head from the... how was Malekith's dad? Aenarion? The pencil art from the 6th edition High Elf book. Man that was a wicked keeper.
  13. I take 30 in my list and they do all the work. I love them. love love love them. They aren't necessarily strictly immobile but I found that I had to move them and ideally with shorter deployment you do want them immobile 4/5 turns. But I'm likely more casual than you. My most recent game was the local tournament dominator and he commented how effective the 30 is. what I think you do need is some onion layers for your opponent to peel away. And chaff is tricky in CoS. But great write-up
  14. Well that's debatable but I would agree with the point they are more inclined to listen to feedback in the manner you described. And I trust Enoby 100% to present with clarity and good intentions. I'm hoping it goes well.
  15. Just a champion of Warherd these days ain't ya If you summon Gors do they get their re-roll? Did anyone notice the meme on twitter (not on FB assuming it's there too) about one of the rumour drops looking like tyranid but also really looking like the t-rex weak arm on the Jabber? Started a bit of chatter perhaps our update isn't too far away with a new range (granted rumours used to be 3-6 months, but lately i think there are some a few years behind).
  16. CoS Battalions. Was there more in the other WD supplements? I didn't look too much into them, just noticed maybe STD got a horsie battalion? I don't recall.
  17. What I've done is proxied my old units rebased to match. I've used my Great Stag heroes as,. oh gee, memory. Fullminators? Decimators? Uh.... Stormcast on dragon-horsie things. I've used a Great Eagle hero as Yndrasta. Generally the BSBs became unit std bearers, heroes became unit champs. But with some work you can make an old "Wood elf" feeling army. https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/u8HUNVKydnPpvowA.pdf There is a PDF for CoS that includes more Wanderers. Even within a friendly local tournament, or any pick up games I see no reason these are an issue if you wanted a classic feel.
  18. Mark of a good person. Kudos for being an adult CarkFish.
  19. That seems like a really good thing to highlight right now for people looking to play with Warherd. Bullgors being a unit, Ghorgons being good to pair up with a Doombull. Think of them as two different purposes.
  20. GW is treading waters of creating confusion between a myriad of places and sources during a pandemic. The poster could also be ESL or 11 years old. Why assume they didn't do any solving on their own? I see no reason to warrant a reply like this.
  21. I think it's pretty obvious with a few example Battletomes what makes things work and what doesn't. Beasts of Chaos and Hedonites of Slaanesh (the latter especially) really struggle with synergy and some warscrolls in a game where dropping points just makes them spammable but,.. not great. I look at HoS as a very different maybe confused way of writing a battletome. Perhaps time will tell it has legs and points changes could indeed benefit. Dropping points in BoC did nothing. It is an architectural issue with design. Granted if they re-wrote any warscrolls in that book properly, it could do a lot. GW has re-written warscrolls outside books and I don't want to see books as a means to be reprinted often as,. well that's not a good value or system. I think General's Handbook is a good method of updating Warscrolls in need of it. It is annual, likely not going to be moot as there shouldn't be such issues as book re-writes/prints it's too chaotic and for matched play players, it affects those who need it most. I don't want to see the system move to an app. That prevents the entry of new gamers and adds another layer of complexity as historically the app has been wrong, and never fixed. GW is bad with apps. GW has also already done this with Alarielle, the Jabberslythe, etc. It's not a bad idea for warscroll re-writes. Alarielle is the perfect example. She's amazing right now and has never been better. At no points cost would Bullgors be a good optimal choice in AoS 3. As BL they give away Broken Ranks really easy, and hitting on a 4+ with very few attacks (even with all out attack) make them,.. so susceptible to dice spiking they are just a weak choice.
  22. Change your armies. No army has literally one build (ignoring WAAC). And I'm sure you have enough in your collection to play a different theme. For example Sylvaneth. The Alarielle, big guy/gal, gnarlroot min core list is really good. But,.. try something different. Play a horde of Dryads, in Winterleaf. If you have Order consider Cities of Sigmar. If you have Chaos consider allies/etc/whatever they are called. If you have destruction try Kragnos, if you have Death I think Nagash is available in most lists. Enoby hit the nail on the head with Path to Glory.
  23. The game is generally always in a better state than before.
