  1. Most of the Harrowmark is virtually impenetrable forest: Seemingly endless miles of dark, tangled, twisted and unnatural forest. It is a corrupted land: the dead trees are warped by dark-magic, skull-formed rock formations and other symbols and motifs of death are everywhere. Things live in these forests: malignant, spiteful things. It is a brave soul that ventures under the dark bowers, brave or foolish, as few who attempt to navigate the winding pathways ever emerge again. The forests are shaped by the death magic that permeates them and the forest spirits that dwell within are equally affected. The children of the Everqueen take root in even the most barren soil; fallow fields sown with bones and watered with tears, tangled darkwoods and rocky crags. The wyldwoods of the Harrowmark are so cluttered with the remains of the unnumbered dead that the Sylvaneth that dwell within them have become amalgamations of wood, bones, burial goods and grave-shrouds. They often have human (and other) skulls and bones tangled into their branches and limbs, they wear animal skulls as faces and their enchanted weapons appear to be made of the same soul-stuff as the spirits and magics of the realm. ~ 🙐 ~ Painting recipe: Chaos Black spray undercoat, zenithal Mechanicus Standard Grey spray basecoat, dry-brushed Ushabti Bone and washed with Nuln Oil. Bones: Ushabti Bone basecoat, washed with Agrax Earthshade, dry-brushed Ushabti Bone. Enchanted weapons and Spites: White Scar (Air, but brushed on) basecoat, washed with Nihilakh Oxide, dry-brushed White Scar, deeper shadows pin-washed with Coelia Greenshade, Edge highlighted White Scar (Air). Anethum, Branchwych with Bittergrub and Greenwood Scythe Gravethorne, Kurnoth Hunter with Scythe Leafshround, Kurnoth Hunter with Greatbow ~ 🙐 ~ There will probably be more of these tree-creatures soon! The Looncurse is coming, after all.
  2. 👍 snap! https://warbosskurgan.blogspot.com/p/rumour-engines.html#2018-08-21 Also, that glyph on it's head... ?
  3. It didn't exactly. They said they were sure WHQ would go back to AoS at some point.
  4. The brush-work is much smoother that the grub-things on the BSF page. I think that carapace is from something bigger.
  5. I agree with your guesses for the first two rows. Some of the "green box" row are likely to be Primaris Marines IMHO. And you missed out this ghosty one: https://warbosskurgan.blogspot.com/p/rumour-engines.html#unsolved
  6. Kapitan Alunzo da Leeva and The Rotmoons The Rotmoons were a band of swashbuckling orruk sky-pirates. They called themselves Privateers, and acted more like pirates, but they spent more of their time acting like explorers than either. They searched the ruins of the Realms for treasures and artefacts from the Age of Myth. Their Shaman, El Doctoro, considered himself an expert on that long-forgotten era and often pronounced, with great complacency and authority, what a found treasure was or its magical powers. He was occasionally correct but only occasionally. Their skyship, The Rotmoon, was recently wrecked (again!) in the forests of The Harrowmark. They made a deal with another orruk pirate crew, the Ogresuns; under Kaptain Salty Ogbad, to recover their cargo. But Ogbad fled with a small portion of the treasure after losing most of it to the Gilded Hand and the Ordeshal Host. The Rotmoons were reduced to looking for a ship to steal as a replacement. They hoped to cut-out one of the merchants that often call at the Wortbad skydock. Kapitán Alunzo da Leeva - Orruk Warboss A dashing and swashbuckling Orc Pirate; young, capable and unusually quick-witted. He was popular with his crew as he got them out of many scrapes over the years but he was unpopular with the other captains of the Ironfang Fleet who saw him as an “upstart young pup”. He was unfortunately prone to shipwreck much more often than someone with his actual skill should be. El Doctoro - Orruk Great Shaman Surgeon, explorer, collector, drug addict (well, Magic Mushroom addict): El Doctoro was all of these to an extent. He often dropped hints that there is more to him than just “the shaman”. He wanted the crew of the Rotmoon to think he was mysterious and complex. Hammerhead (AKA Tiburón Martillo) - Ogor Maneater Dressed in the Rotmoons style Hammerhead wore a black cloak and breaches, an off-white ruff, a battered morion helmet engraved with an octopus design and silvered armour. He carried a handgun that he used like a pistol and he liked to twirl his huge cutlass in great swishing arcs. Dragante - Orruk Boss A hulking brute of an orruk with a hook for a hand and a bad attitude. He made sure the Boyz did exactly what they were told and bashed heads together when the crews' arguments (inevitably) turned into fights. The crew... Juan Dee. Alchemist, seer, astronomer, astrologer, occult philosopher and advisor to The Rotmoons. Dregante and newcomer Bortagno find themselves lost in the forests of the Harrowmark... something watches them from the trees...
  7. Da Cleavermaw was a hulking conglomeration of different wrecked and captured ships, cobbled together over many years from their victims and any old junk they could salvage. The prow and stern were completely mismatched and it rode through the air in an ungainly, awkward way. It looked like a dog, steered like a cow and smelled like a slum. Luckily it also packed a punch like a prizefighter: it was equipped with strange mechanical contractions to grapple and board an enemy and vast amounts of heavy artillery. For years Kaptain Mogrum was completely obsessed with closely examining the captured papers, maps, charts, orders, logbooks and letters - he had standing orders for the crew to gather them from captured sky-ships. He hoarded them in his cabin and, along with his clerk, poured over them for hours in the night making details notes and trying to fit them together or to make sense of them as a whole. Some months ago Kaptain Mogrum received a near-fatal head injury in a boarding action - a Kharadron skypike split his skull. He was not expected to recover, so it surprised everyone when he woke up and exploded the cabin wall by vomiting up a green lightning-blast of Waaagh! power. The head wound he had survived had unlocked a connection to Gorkamorka and the Waaagh! energy that was generated by the orruks around him. Since his accident Kaptain Mogrum was changed. Where before he had been a brutal, but cunning, Warboss who led his crew from the front, he was always first over the gunwales into an enemy ship, and a vicious, merciless fighter. But he was now a cunning, but brutal, Weirdnob Shaman! Since his awakening the pirate orruks who followed him fully embraced his change (not least because he killed a lot less of them in fits of anger. Even if he did kill a lot more of them in accidental explosions of Waaagh! energy... on balance it seemed better to them) and from then on they all consider themselves experts in the fields of thaumatology, evocation and sorcery. They nodded sagely to one another as they described the magic around them in great technical detail (often using the wrong terms but they really didn't care). They pronounced judgements on the quality of the wizardry they witnessed and debated the relative merits of various spells. When they journeyed to the very edge of the realms in search of the wild magic of Endless Spells, their Kaptain issued each of them an ensorcelled black-powder pistol as a focus for binding the Endless Spells. Each orruk then took it upon themselves to add charms and trinkets to their pistol, in order to enhance its power. A selection of teeth, bones, coins, pebbles with holes, crow feathers, gold and silver rings, and polished fragments of glass - all tied on with string or jewellery chains - adorned their foci.
  8. Adm'rul Kurgan is a veteran of a hundred campaigns in every corner of the Realms: from the steaming jungles of Ghyran to the ruined cities of the Hysh; he has burned ports in the Rotwater Blight, raided the towns of Okkam’s Reach in Ulgu, besieged fortresses in the Endless Desert of Shyish, endured the perpetual snowstorms and barren wastes of the Silverglades in Chamon, battled in the heart of the Jade Kingdoms, looted the floating islands over the Harrowmark forests and engaged all manner of foes: alive or undead, daemonic or mortal. All the while stealing anything that wasn't nailed down, and having a go with a claw-hammer at anything that was. The Hogwashas - Orruk Ironjawz Brutes The crew of the Adm’rul’s flagship and his bodyguard. Huge specimens of the greenskin race, they exemplify the ideal held true by all Orruks that “Might is Right”. They take the biggest cut of the loot, have the best weapons and armour, and the best tattoos in the fleet. They swagger about port as if they own the place, and so far no-one has told them otherwise. They relish adventure and excitement and we gladly board the Hogwasha and set off through a Realmgate into skies-unknown, just to see what happens when they get there.
  9. Gnark, the Scaremonger, and the Frazzlegitz Gnark The Scaremonger capered and hooted from behind his terrifying Glareface mask. He rode upon the skull of a Cave Squig (borne by Snark) that represented the immolated godbeast Boingob, he put the fear of the Moonclan bogeyman into the nearby Mushloonz. Gnark was routinely followed around by The Frazzlegitz, a small band of sun-masked Gitz who thought he was some kind of prophet. Gnark the Scaremonger (and Snark) Huka Nerb Taz
  10. They vary massively. Some have been 8 months some a few days.
  11. In the English version when asked what his favourite thing he's written for GW it says "A year ago I would have said the Ogre Kingdoms army book..." That (to me) means the world-that-was army book. He would have said "Ogor" and "Battletome" if it was something for AoS. Edit: ninja'd by @robinlvalentine 😂
  12. Loonboss Skragbad chuckled to himself as the orruk Brute strolled into the Dankwood as if he owned the place. He started to shout and order the resident grots and act as if he were the boss, just because he was bigger than everyone else. This was typical of an orruk as they always thought that being the biggest made you the natural boss. Skragbad knew better. The Knights of Skrag gathered at either end of the dirt track through the shanty town and slowly closed in on the massive shouty orruk. Skragbad stepped out if a side street a few yards away from the Brute and took up to most confident and arrogant pose he could manage. The orruk turned toward him and grinned a big toothy grin. He hefted his ragged-bladed axe and took a step toward the Loonboss. one of the Knights jumped forward and thrust his stabba into the back of the orruk's thigh. The orruk roared in indignation and swiped at the grot but he scampered out of reach. Skragbad nodded and two gitz with barbed nets pounced and threw their nets over the orruk! The other Knights swarmed round the tangled Brute and set out him with their spiked clubs. They aimed at his calves and the backs of his thighs and brought him down to his knees. the they aimed at his hands and face. The orruk bellowed in rage and pain as his broken fingers dropped his axe and tore ineffectually at the nets. More gitz came out of their hovels carrying sticks and clubs and joined in the vicious beating. Soon the orruk stopped moving and even more grots appeared to take part in the "fun". - 🍄 - This addition the little band of stabbas known as The Knights of Skrag feels a little gamey for my usual style (when combined with the Command Ability of the Loonboss) but it's also a nice call-back to the Warhammer 4th edition Night Goblin unit: "Netters and Clubbers", so I don't feel to bad about it. Snag Tangul Kacha The netters together: The Squig Hopper rider needed a little bit of greenstuff to make the netter hands fit into his robes-sleeves. The other two are normal Moonclan Grots, they needed their heads (carefully) sliced off (and saved for another project!), and the helmeted Boingrot heads needed a trim to fit flush, but obviously their hands fitted with no work.
  13. Thanks @Roostmanuva! Next up for the Knights of Skrag: some Netters. One is made from a Squig Hopper rider (with a little greenstuff work needed), the other two from regular Moonclan Grots. All three have Boingrot Bounders heads.
  14. There are both a vase and a treasure chest in the pool:
  15. There is a vase with similar styling in the pool on Mollog's base. So it could be almost any AoS faction as a base detail.
  16. The Knights of Skrag Whooping and hollering, Loonboss Skragbad's Mushloonz armoured enforcers moved through the clearings and trails of the Dankwood making as much noise and commotion as they could; they were cowards and bullies the lot of 'em and they took great pleasure in ruining the day of everyone they met who was not bigger than them. They shouted at the squigs in pens, they pushed about the fungus farmers and they knocked over the Brewgit's bottles of beer. If anyone stood-up to them some of them stood back and taunted them ,while the others snuck round behind them to stab them in the back. They knew that if anyone really tried anything their boss would have their back and he would sort them out. Of course if one of the Troggoths said anything to them, they would disappear faster than a a Gargant can finish a barrel of beer! - 🍄 - Skragbad's little band of bullies and thugs were made from half the riders from a Squig Hoppers kit, with the helmeted heads for the Boingrot Bounders alternative build, that comes in the same kit, instead of hooded heads. Making them work as infantry was mostly just a case of gluing one foot onto the base, but a couple needed something to stand on to make them look right. Soddit Itchy Leggit Bugrit Skarpa - 🍄 - Fungus Farmer Maggit and Madcap Shaman Wazza, inspecting the crops and rooting out hungry squiggly beasts. (Heads of both also from the wonderful Squig Hoppers kit.) I love using an NPC, or two, to add a bit of flavour to a warband's backstory. (Ugh. Now I have uploaded the photos I realise I didn't paint the tiny coins on Wazza's staff! I'll fix that tonight.) Today's new Gitz, all together: Edit: Fixed!
  17. "Oy! Ya zoggin scum-bags!" bellowed Skragbad as he strode down what passed for the main street of the Dankwood Lurklair. Faces appeared at the windows of the shanty hovels piled up on either side of the road. They soon disappeared again (and shutters slammed closed) when they saw who was shouting. Skragbad was pleased by this reaction and it boosted his self-confidence. He started shouting even louder. The mob of semi-armoured thugs that trailed in his wake helped as well. The self-titled Knights of Skrag laughed sycophantically as Skragbad pushed over a market stall, sending mushrooms and squig-parts bouncing and rolling across the hard, compacted dirt. The food seller cowered behind his ruined stall as Skragbad continued to bawl at him. "Ya ain't paid up dis munf. Ya know dat we can't make sure nuffink bad happens to yer if ya don't pay for us ta look after ya." He stamped on a particularly juicy mushroom for emphasis. - 🍄 - Skragbad the Loonboss. I carefully chopped off the "moon helmeted" head and added a head from a Squig Hopper Boss - then added some robes, as I felt that just the hooded head made him look a bit unbalanced in terms of "fabric vs. armour". I used bottom of one of the curtains from a Coven Throne and greenstuffed the gap between it and the armour. He was painted with the same method I have used on almost all of the Mushloonz: a black undercoat with a zenithal Mechanicus Standard Grey spray base-coat. I base-coated Elysian Green on the skin, lightly dry-brushed the whole model all over with Pallid Wych Flesh, then I washed the skin with Athonian Camoshade. The robes were washed with Nuln Oil then tidied up with a mix of Abbadon Black and Mechanicus Standard Grey, painted over some of the dry-brushing that was too heavy and into the areas of deeper shade. The reds are just Evil Sunz Scarlet with a wash of Carroburg Crimson then a highlight of Evil Sunz Scarlet again. - 🍄 - The Knights of Skrag Skragbad's little band of bullies and thugs were made from half the riders from a Squig Hoppers kit, with the helmeted heads for the Boingrot Bounders alternative build, that come in the same kit, instead of hooded heads. Making them work as infantry was mostly just a case of gluing one foot onto the base, but a couple needed something to stand on to make them look right. I have already undercoated them and hope to have them painted soon.
  18. Update: Loonboss with a greenstuff-joined cloak (made from a Coven Throne Curtain!)
  19. Skragbad the Loonboss. I carefully chopped off the "moon helmeted" head and added a head from a Squig Hopper Boss - I'm in the process of adding some robes too, just the hooded head makes him look a bit unbalanced in terms of "fabric vs. armour". Some assorted NPCs from the Dankwood are also on the way: a pensive Shaman and an annoyed Fungus Farmer (reprimanding a small squiggly beast for eating his crops). Heads from the amazing Squig Hoppers kit. And a trio of gitz who follow a Scaremonger (masks left to right: Ork Nobz back-banner top, Greenskinz Boyz shield-boss (OoP), Empire Fortified Manor sign (OoP). Knowing this might not be very helpful though, as two out of three are out-of-production kits!)
  20. Mollog's Mob The Dankhold Troggoth known as Mollog the Mighty slept in his mushroom-littered cavern beneath the dunes of the Desert of Bones for centuries, emerging every so often to rampage in search of food. It was a comfortable life, until an infestation of Skaven spilled up from the deep earth. After he had finished picking his teeth clean of scraps of flesh and fur, the troggoth realised his home was lost to the endless tide of vermin. Followed by a mob of the bizarre denizens that had dwelt within his cave, Mollog set off to find a new one. The troggoth travelled far across the bone-strewn wastes, eventually coming to the ruins of Shadespire. Underground he went, certain that somewhere in this gloomy place lay the dank, quiet cavern he was looking for. Instead, Mollog found the labyrinth of the Mirrored City. Still he presses stubbornly on with his search, a trail of crushed and battered bodies left in his wake. - 🍄 - I probably won't be using this warband in Warhammer Underworlds, but I want to leave my options open. He and his followers look like a lot of fun in AoS Skirmish anyway! Bat Squigs are little more than mouths with wings, yet these body parts are a deadly combination. The fungal clouds emitted by a Spiteshroom can rot flesh from bone. When angered, a Stalagsquig can gnash through metal and bone with gruesome ease. Mollog - an ancient Dankhold Troggoth - just wants a nap! Stirred from a long slumber, he now seeks a bit of peace and quiet, and is more than happy to crack the skulls of anyone who’d deny it to him. The Mushloonz so far:
