  1. As someone struggling to be more than a distracted average painter my first advice is finding the best, comfortable position to paint in. Good lighting to prevent eye strain, good posture, and laying out your paints, palettes water etc. in a way to minimize movement and sorting when you get in the zone.
When painting feels effortless you will enjoy it more and get more done in less time.
    Also brush care!

Do you find the Celestar Balista useful? I have no idea what is what with stormcast.

  2. Great progress getting it all done in one shot! What is your typical turnaround for an army like this?

I wish I had a better compressor, as mine doesn't have any psi settings and is bollocks for air primers, which get stuck quite easily.
Colored metallics are definitely the big winners with contrast paints.

I've got the Dominion Stormcast saved for a rainy day. Their theme is growing on me, so will be interesting following your progress.

  3. Does this have a plastic cement like bond with gw plastic? Like if you used say a dollop on a piece of sprue and let dry, would it be 'fused' with plastic?

I ask because I use the trick where plastic bits are mixed into plastic cement to make a  goop I can sortof do this with but its messy.

I'd need that strong connection though.

  4. Voila! Another example of magnetized back banner (using same base skullcrusher) Ill just need to make an additional magnet backbrace for another hands-free banner.

Also a handy tip for builders who wish to compartmentalize models for painting, storage etc. Is just making your own segments! Skullcrusher seats are integrated directly into the riders abdomen and mount body, so keeping the two separate for painting is a pain. Here I've pre-drilled a pin-hole, then sliced apart to make a removable seat that doesn't move around (and totally doesn't resemble anything shady...)

  5. Thanks for posting! That middle paragraph is a doozy but yea these are some beefy dudes!

I think from an old world perspective I always envisioned the martial warrior side to Khorne, really exemplified in this art:

Skullcrushers, as the new thing around the time of that art are the closest to it. The bloodwarriors and other AOS were going a little too chunky? Cartoony? Though I do like Bloodbound more than at launch, its a different feel.

Maybe mounted SC were supposed to feel regal and knightly or just better fit in a Chaos warrior army style at the time.

Anyways had a go at another back-banner think I like better for next quick update. maybe in a few hours when glue is stable.

  6. The mentality 'build what looks good' really makes sense when there is no meta units to be paranoid about finishing first.

A Chaos monster army sounds like a fantastic idea, very old-school fluff. Looks great on the shelf and gives you lots of options for a traditional list when the rules get fixed.

I'm all about elite cav. and really dig the dragon ogor kit, though sucks they never got totally fleshed out with a proper Shaggoth update. you've got yours so all good!

As the Dragon ogor kit doesn't have much variety aside from weapon options you should at least have a few kits of each loadout, or take the opportunity to make swappable arms. (or use smallish dab of superglue at the arm connections to make it swappable later)
I'd imagine with the war-glaves 2" reach, a unit of 6 could manage coherency with all models fighting (interlocked W formation) so adding to the warglave unit would be cool.

Nice!  This will be a formidable impressive looking force when completed.  I really gotta start adding stuff to my bases like you're doing; makes for a much more immersive feel.

Is the one with the Bloodthirster head on a stick the Bloodsecrator?  Seems like that would inspire folks to attack more :D

Thanks! Yes its going to have quite the footprint thats for sure!

I nearly ran out of skulls so went lighter on the recent ones (juggers, dogs) but 4-5 is probably enough for each, as it takes a long time.

A trick you can likely see here is chopping skulls in half at different planes so you get two sunken skulls for one! Helps engrain them into the terrain too

  8. I'm saving my big scary models from the Start Collecting sets for until after I put together the line troops (no pudding without yer meat!)

I also finally setup some display space for my painted stuff, instead of having it sitting away in boxes. Getting a chance to marvel at your completed stuff puts the goalposts at the completed stage. Usually I go for good enough, or test model leading a bunch of primed shadows...

  9. The blue-black looks good on the robes and cloth, less so on the wooden shield (coffin door and circle inside). probably because it comes off as a midnight blue more than black, which is totally rad, and looks like lighting effects from his glowing scythe.

On the wood the question is why is it blue OR black? especially in the cracks where black paint over wood would be chipped off.

    Like your bone color too!

And I think these vampire counts skeletons are freaking awesome models! I'm looking forward to their Aos reboxing before I get more than my starting 20
