  1. Thats true. They could definitely kit bash quite a lot out of that set. It is a fantastic model, although a bit small compared to modern centerpiece beasties. The rank and file skeletons and the horsemen and chariots couldn't really be repurposed without standing out at this point, and a new, improved bone giant would be great as the old one does look a bit derpy. Note though that it has a hat made of smaller skeletons, which is one of the Most Warhammer concepts of all time!
  2. Agreed. As a TK collector I think there are a few approaches which could be taken. They can't and won't just bring the old faction back in its entirety, and I highly doubt they'll bring back any of it. The most likely scenario is a new faction, in the style of Nagash and the Mortarchs. A lot of GW's death stuff has a slight egyptian vibe, so it wouldn't take much to lean into that, and come up with something new which still has some nods to the Tomb Kings aesthetic. If they were to go the Daughters of Khaine route, and use old kits as the core of the army then I reckon these three are it. The Sphynx has three builds, and two of them give you a tomb king on foot. The snakes have two builds, each a distinct unit, and the Tomb Guard have two weapon choices and would be a natural fit as the new battleline unit. They could then add between three and five more kits, to fill out the rest of the range. If I were to bet then I would say at minimum a second troop kit, in the style of the Tomb Guard, but with a ranged option, then something like the Ushabti, perhaps with multiple builds, and then either a chariot kit, a catapult. Ideally they'd do all of that, plus a huge centerpiece model. Add a hero or two either separately or as part of one of those and I think it would be a solid range. I'm not going to hold out too much hope for any of that to happen though, but we can hope.
  3. I'm now imagining pirates raiding the ship, triumphantly stealing the shipping containers, and then wondering what to do with a thousand copies of the same book about dryads, and a lifetimes supply of plastic trees!
  4. Well the entire Malign Portents canon is set immediately prior to the Necroquake, and Soul Wars is set at and immediately after it. Beyond that I don't think many of the ones I've read recently have been fixed to a particular time.
  5. I'm going to set all of my horrible monsters to patrol the edges of my domain and eat intruders. The orcs and beastmen etc will occupy the same no mans land, and then I'll have standing armies of Elves and Dwarves etc to keep my citadel safe in the event they cause trouble. I'll keep the undead and Necrons as a last reserve naturally. I figure that even somewhat horrible factions like Witch Elves and Chaos Dwarves would be of use, since they will have to do my bidding, even if their natural proclivities are not quite what I'd like. I'll also have plenty of Wizards for engaging conversation, and to play RPGs and Wargames with. I could do with more minis of regular people though, to do the actual cooking and cleaning and such. As you can tell i've thought this through in quite a bit of detail!
  6. Just had a look through every Elf Army book I can find. The first rune doens't have a clear match, but could be an upside down Cython (Serpent, wisdom, Lileath, futility) The second could be a simplified Hanor (Rain, boldness, ingress) or possibly a very simplified Asur (rulership, the eternal flame, rebirth, Asuryan) , the fourth is clearly Larime (frost, caution, egress), and the last one might be a simplified Histo (plenty, dominance, golden age).
  7. That's awesome, at least your toy soldiers will have fun while sitting in their cockpits between games! Clearly you need to paint the pilots and controls, since they need to be done properly if they are going to do the piloting! I have a theory that the Ancient Egyptians were right about everyone needing Shabti dolls to serve them in the afterlife. Most modern people are going to be woefully ill prepared, but we wargamers will be quite well off! I wouldn't want to get to the hereafter and discover that I didn't have anyone available to fly the shiny grav tank in my garage because I'd skimped on painting the pilots! I just hope that the life sized spiritual incarnations of my models will look like the things they represent, and not like badly painted models...
  8. I like to make sure that I am happy with things, but don't really care whether other people are. I prefer to pick and undercoat colour which works for the model, so that if there are any inaccessible areas, they will at least be a colour that works, rather than just spray painted white, or the blank grey of the plastic. Funny story, long ago, when I was first getting into the hobby, I only had a limited budget for paints (as most twelve year olds tend to find I'm sure). Every pot of paint you buy is less pocket money you can spend on models after all! So for a long while I didn't bother getting a pot of grey paint, as I figured I could carefully paint around areas which were supposed to be grey, and leave the plastic in its natural colour! It only somewhat worked, but it did the trick until I got a model of Gandalf and had to invest in a proper pot or two! Basically its all down to the standard you choose, and no one should feel bad about doing what works for them, rather than whatever is fashionable, or accepted.
  9. If we're going to get rid of all the old world characters then lets start at the top. That Sigmar guy was already dead long before the End Times! Its thus ridiculous that he's one of the most powerful people in the new setting! They should clearly be more original. They might need to change the name of the game though... (I case anyone can't tell, this post isn't entirely serious.)
  10. Having Sauron revealed as a new chaos god would certainly be quite the twist.
  11. I tend to spend about 90% of the time painting, and relatively little playing. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this hobby if you don't enjoy the craft side of it. So much of the point of warhammer is about building and painting that I'm not sure the gaming will be worth your while if you don't enjoy that. Clearly there are people who are only into the game, or rush or hire out the hobbying, but i definitely get the sense that they are in the minority. At the end of the day there are a lot of great games out there which can use prepainted minis or at least small forces which won't take as long to get ready. If yiu like the warhammer setting the try a skirmishes sh game like those suggested above. If lore isn't an issue the FFG's star wars games can be a good option, their prepainted ship s are lovely. For fantasy themed stuff check out frostgrave and its family of games, they require fewer minis, and don't require you to use their own range. Wizkids prepainted figures (branded for D&D and pathfinder) work just fine ( and are increasingly good quality). In short there are options.
  12. Interesting. Following the link is just getting a 404 "Data Expunged" page, and its not showing up on Warcom. I wonder if they posted it too early...
  13. Excellent. Not that I really need any more books, but you know...
  14. My reading of the description on the page is that both versions are updated to 4e WFRP, but one is a special cover collectors edition with slip cases, while the other is the regular version which will be in shops. I'm wondering whether you will have to get the adventure book and the companion book separately when the standard edition comes out, or whether they will be sold together still, though.
  15. That's good to hear. The content sounds great, but that price tag can't be feasible for most gamers. If we can get the standard books gradually over a couple of years it's doable though.
  16. This thread is making me realise another factor in why I'm so bad at playing the game. I'd never even considered that some players can tell which weapon options something has at a glance from across the table, let alone how many models are in a unit and which are the champions etc. Being partially sighted I struggle to keep track of who's where at all, without trying to work out the capabilities of my opponents models! Can't think of a way around it except larger scale models though...
  17. This post is a masterpiece, you should feel very proud!
  18. I'm the exact opposite of a tournament player, so can't really offer any advice, however its interesting to read the discussion. When I first started using my DoK army I accidentally used the Hag queen model as the Slaughter Queen. It didn't make a difference in the battle, but when I next wanted to play them I had a tricky decision to make, because my Slaughter Queen had performed a lot of heroic feats in that battle, despite her army loosing over all. She'd taken command when her general was killed, and endured round after round despite everything thrown at her. By the end of the game she had a name, and the start of a backstory. I thus really didn't want to switch models for that character, since it felt a bit wrong. My solution was to find a nice dark-elven sword which would fit in place of her chalice and convert the model to have the correct weapon load out. I repainted her to fit her new status as the general of the army going forwards, and have been using her as a slaughter queen ever since. I'm curious though as to whether this wouldn't be allowed, since while its an effective conversion, which I'm please with the results of it isn't a particularly dramatic one. The model still has the same basic pose it always did. (Note that this question is entirely academic, since I'm never going to attend a tournament, I'd be interested to hear people's views though!)
  19. Well, you can never have enough squigs... that's just not possible! I think I now have thirty once I add these to my older ones, but I kind of want to get another of the new plastic sets just to be able to build all of the herders, they are awesome designs! I was quite keen on the Sylvaneth side of the box too though truth be told. Until they released this and the shadespire band I had everything except Alarielle (who I now won't be getting for a while...). I'm keen to build up the last few weapon options on the revanants, and try out that side of the box as well. I definitely didn't need another big army project, and won't be getting any more warhammer for a while, but it should be an entertaining next few months of painting!
  20. Yeah, building that many at once was very entertaining! I've got the old Mangler Squigs, and Squig hoppers already, among some other gobliny bits, which I reckon I can now make a 2000 point army out of!
  21. I'd argue that this is more about social considerations than gaming related ones. It might not usually be worth your time to play a casual game, but if doing so will help your friend have a better experience for once then its worth stepping out of your comfort zone every so often.
  22. There is always something to be said for compromise though. Maybe you don't enjoy competitive games, and your opponent won't enjoy more story driven ones. One option would be to not play against each other, but a more amicable solution might be to agree to split the difference and alternate play styles. You still wouldn't get the most out of every game, but at least you'd both get to do the play style you prefer some of the time, rather than one person always being at a disadvantage.
  23. This is a really well thought out way to do it. I would love to see this happen!
