  1. +++ MOD HAT +++ Probably best to steer the conversation away from business economics - it varies hugely across countries (and even across different parts of a country) 😊
  2. Personally battalions need reviewing as a whole. However that's probably another topic entirely 😉
  3. GW availability has lots of different factors involved. In addition to the ones people have mentioned, the pandemic continues to cause problems. The recent announcement of a lockdown in the UK has caused a surge in people stocking up because they remember "the last time" and how difficult it was to pick up a pot of black paint. As @Overread says, the covid safety measures put in place will have had a double whammy impact because not only will production be affected, but the distribution of product too - a lorry taking 20% longer to load means less lorries out the door. That's going to be compounded by producing less things in China - certainly it's been noted that things like the Necromunda Zone Mortalis terrain now have a "made in the UK" sticker on the boxes.
  4. +++ MOD HAT +++ Not really, but it's a good example of there being bargains out there if you look, so we'll let you off 😉
  5. The Lord of Plagues allows you to re-roll hit rolls of 1. So any unit of Blight Kings that are within 7" whilst fighting will be able to re-roll any To Hit dice that are a 1*. Once all rolled & re-rolled any that are a 6 explode into D6 hits. * you can never re-roll a re-roll.
  6. +++ MOD +++ Have moved this into the questions section of TGA
  7. I'm not sure they will be available in truth - don't believe they did this for the 40k version. What you may be lucky with is picking one or two up after the series has finished because many people get rid of the assembly/painting pages.
  8. My thinking is that it probably wouldn't be never ending as there wouldn't be any way to replenish the slain from Khorne's armies. It'd be great for a while, but longer term everyone bar a few insanely powerful war tribes would be dead. There's a weird symbiosis between mortals and the classic chaos gods, they want to destroy or dominate them, but ultimately also know that without them they'd not be as powerful as they are. One thing that is interesting to add though is that in the background lore, we're seeing more nods towards a slightly more civilised side of Khorne. Within Neferata Dominion of Bones, you have a largely self-sufficient Khorne city, which includes producing food. Some of that is because the daemon prince is from Hysh, but it's a nice indicator that the chaos gods may be starting to look at that long game for their mortal followers
  9. I'm hoping that the focus on 2000 point games being the "only" or "right" way to play is something that is going to be tackled in time. It's certainly something 40k seems to have got a lot better under control than AoS and Crusade is a testament to this because it works pretty well at smaller game sizes.
  10. The Sigmar/Nagash issue is also that Sigmar is perverting the natural cycle of life where the natural order is that all souls travel to Shyish*. There are odd hints that some of the knowledge about reforging was gleaned from Nagash. I think one of the cleverest things about AoS is that it highlights that "good" is a matter of perspective. Sigmar is largely seen as the the most benevolent god because he's ultimately wishes to protect the largest population (humans, duardin, aelves). However Sigmar has himself committed various atrocities, for example, Dragon Ogors are the natural occupants of Azyr but were driven out by Sigmar. He's also back stabbed other dieties in the past such as when he changed the Enlightenment Engines Teclis made. * I'll of course mention nothing about the fact that Nagash pulls souls out of their afterlife and makes them fight & work for him One interesting thing about Chaos was made by Aaron Dembski Bowden (it was in relation to 40k, but still stands here) in that Chaos cannot win because by winning they'll lose. We saw this touched upon during the Age of Chaos where largely Khorne was running ascendant - his followers had basically ran out of things to fight so started to fight themselves. If left long enough Khorne would have basically ran out of followers or at least weakened themselves to the point where there were not enough of them left. Sigmar opening the gates of Azyr when he did was ultimately a blessing for Khorne who could grow stronger on the fighting. You almost could write a book on Philosophy within the Mortal Realms, because if you think about it, conflict is actually at the central core of every deity going and there would be an argument that without conflict none of the gods could exist. Even during the time Age of Myth a time of relative piece, part of the focus was taming the realms by smashing god beasts out of the way! Ultimately I believe that all gods are made out of the same "stuff", fuelled by conflict, just in chaos it's a lot more focused.
  11. I'm wondering if these are going to be instead of the Christmas battleforce boxes?
  12. Absolutely agree with this. It's a great little system - almost a personal campaign for your army. I'd be very surprised if we don't see this come about in AoS in some format (sorting out some of the madness of paths to glory). What really makes it work is the missions for specific game & table sizes and not having to adapt one to work for smaller games.
  13. Just to make one point. Although wax paper will work, ideally you want baking parchment for wet palette's. Wax paper has a layer of wax on it which will at best make the paint bead up and inhibit the wicking effect, and at worst could interact with the paint.
  14. Might as well weigh in from a painting perspective 😊 The assembly & painting aspect of wargaming can be one of the more expensive parts of the hobby, but it's also the part that you'll likely spend more time doing than actual gaming. It's really easy to get carried away, buying lots and lots of things that you don't actually need because somebody has "advised" you that you'll need it. I could happily waffle on for ages here, but here's my "top tips". Expensive isn't always best and cheapest isn't always cost-effective. Research your purchases - ask people's opinion's on forums like this and try to make a balanced choice. Avoid buying lots of paints. Collect organically as you need colours and keep an eye on some that can be mixed easily (baraknar burgundy is pretty much 50/50 khorne red and black). If you don't know what colours you need, have a look on some painting videos rather than guessing. You don't need "special" glue for miniatures. Polystyrene Cement and regular superglue work fine and are cheaper than branded versions. Rosemary & Co series 33 are a great alternative to "premium" sable such as W&N and Artis Opus - and nowhere near the price range. For a sable brush they're actually not much more expensive than some companies synthetic. Look after your brushes, invest in some brush soap and don't use dirty water - keep paint away from the metal ferrule. Also use a "mixing brush", so one dedicated to taking paint out of a pot and mixing on the palette. This extends the life expectancy of your brush by a huge factor. If you want to use weathering pigments, you can actually crush some artist pastels as that's broadly speaking all weathering pigments are!
  15. Snip off the edges of the base and then sand down to the thickness you're after 😊 Much easier said than done though - I've done four characters like this over the years and they make a massive amount of mess whilst sanding! You can just leave it thicker and then apply sand round the edge though if you didn't want to faff too much
  16. Can't quite believe you made that suggestion... I think the 3+ hour game time is actually as significant a barrier to new players as anything else. However I'm now derailing the thread so will stop 😉
  17. +++ MOD HAT +++ Think this we're veering off track now folks and starting to take snipes at each other. Reminder that: we're all entitled to our own views GW is the only one who knows why certain decisions are made (the rest is guesswork) avoid discussing politics on TGA
  18. +++ MOD HAT +++ It appears my screen didn't refresh properly before I posted. Please can we avoid any political discussions on TGA. We've done very well over the past 15 pages, but currently teetering on that slippery slope.
  19. Going to have to agree with @Sleboda here. GW is a miniatures company as it's primary industry and it's never made any secret about it. The miniatures come first and the rules are written second. We as hobbyists decide how we wish to use those rules, what version, customisations etc. You could feasibly use citadel miniatures on a chess board - it wouldn't change how much we paid for that miniature. This is also backed up by random one off characters that have no special rules being priced the same as other characters (looking at you Bladeghest birthday miniature and Catachan lady). What I do think is worth saying though that this does highlight that our own approach to our hobby will determine our personal view of what's value for money and what isn't. If you're primarily a player/gamer, then the rules are going to play a key role in determining what miniatures you wish to pick up. If you're not then the rules play less of a role and you're more likely to buy something that might not be cost effective from a gaming perspective.
  20. Rachael is on Twitter so you could ping her a message on there, or if you've a Github account you could make a suggestion on the public repository she's got for the tool: https://github.com/rachelnertia/warcry-card-creator/issues
  21. Last time we had any figures a normal steel mold was around £50k (probably 15~20 years ago) for a normal infantry sized sprue. I believe when they took this in house some molds halved in price - however that was for pretty simple old molds. I would imagine that the material cost and manufacture cost has bumped it back up by a chunk and you're probably back up to the £50k mark. There are other ways to make molds which is quite prevalent in China, but the quality isn't as good. If you think about the realm gate miniature, that's a good example of a cheaper mold.
  22. Glad you said that! It was a revelation I had a number of years ago when I was playing far too much WoW than was healthy (around the time Burning Crusade came out) and prior to that was after playing too much SWG. I had the realisation that all of the hours I spent tucked away of an evening in front of the computer didn't give me anything I could touch or show people. "what did you do over the weekend" - "I dehydrated and starved myself to change one collection of pixels into a different bunch of pixels that was better". That was the point where I shifted over to committing more time to the hobby and if I'm honest never looked back.
  23. Are you sitting comfortably? 😊 November time last year a friend of mine gathered a load of people* together for a small friendly 40k gaming weekend up at Warhammer World called Purge the Pit. Great hilarity was had by all and it was decided to run another one this year. As you can imagine the current restrictions have resulted in there being no event, however rather than simply go "that's it folks" Dave is building an Armies on Parade board and invited people to send over a miniature to feature on it. The loose theme is "pit fight" and although it's 40k, pretty much anything can fit in - I've painted up an Ogroid Myrmidon (which I've popped over into the painting area) but there's a huge assortment of miniatures being created and painted up for it. For me it's a great way to scratch the itch of doing something for Armies on Parade but without having to commit to creating a massive display board. https://twitter.com/dave_the_dr?lang=en <- Here's Dave's Twitter profile https://twitter.com/hashtag/PitOnParade?src=hashtag_click <- Here's the hashtag * most of the people only knew each other from Twitter.
  24. As a note, generally the 'Eavy Metal team don't use an airbrush for their painting. The most they'll do will be to put down a base colour and then it'll only be on rare occasions. In addition to @Lysandestolpe's video, have a look through Darren Latham's YouTube tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSz0WzAuhwjezFyEIv3Xksg. He covers flesh in a few of them and that will be more like how the display miniature was painted. At some point in the future I do plan on picking up a mega gargant for my Khorne army, but will likely be doing it in a super pale tone (verging into blue) that matches the rest of the army. What I will say is that I do use the basic rule that it's easier to darken a paint than lighten it, so I tend to hit the whole miniature with my base colour and shade down rather than starting with a dark colour and lighten it.
