  1. The first layer shouldn't take too long to dry unless you use a lot of paint or its mixed with water. The was shouldn't take more than an hour, unless you also glob that on. So if you do an individual base or 10, yeah its a pain. the first layer of paint needs to be straight out the tube as it helps to bond the sand to the bases, but it doesn't need to be super thick either. just an even coat is enough. In any case, to speed up the process you can use an old (or new) hair-dryer to speed up the acrylic dry-time. then it should be dry within minutes. Just make sure if you use heat, to blow it from a little bit of distance and also cool the base off before applying more paint, either with the cooling system on the hairdryer or just let sit for a few minutes.
  2. Would love to see you at Heat 1, whether you play or not! Hey Norm! Thank you for your kind words! OK yeah! Non of my bases take hours. Maybe and hour or two for a whole army. So I'll share my techniques. 0) best of all is if you paint your mini seperate from the base or use bluetack to keep them to the base. But if you don't, this will still work. 1) get a sifter. and sift sand from a play ground so that you get a more even, softer material for your bases. Most sifters like these will allow for some rocks to go through, but non that are too large and throws the scale between basing and model. (if you want actual rocks on there, get the ones you want and feel looks best. This will also prevent most unwanted debris from getting in your sand mix. Mine looks like this: So this is my process: 1) Brush all purpose (glue all) glue on the base. (don't glob it on) 2) Dip the base in the sand. 3) Let dry for about an hour 4) Brush non-diluted paint (straight out bottle or tube) and coat the base with desired mid-tone color. (For the Khorne I used Mechanicus standard Grey) 5) Wash (For Khorne I used Agrax Earth shade) 6) Drybrush (For khorne I used Karak Stone) 6 Apply toppings: Grass, Leafwork, Snow, Bushes, etc. (For my Khorne I used the GW snow from the pots, as well as grass tufts from Shadow's Edge Miniatures (Love that company!) I also applied some leafwork from Greenstuff world last knight. I felt it needed just something more) I hope that helps, Norm! If you have any other questions, just ask. Thanks for checking out my stuff!
  3. haha and I of course have a 16gb phone so basically a constant "no storage left" warning lolol. I'll try to empty my phone and use Tiff for now. Sounds like I need an upgrade! Perhaps a new phone for the new year is in order. Dude, Thank you so much for all your help and comments. It has made me a lot more aware of what I can do to remedy some of the issues I have been experiencing.
  4. I cannot find the DNG mode, so I assume it only works on Iphone 7 plus. mine is the awesome.... 5s....
  5. You are definitely right. Getting RAW photos would make all the details come out much better, and especially on an EOS where the lens is x10 the size. However, for that to work out smoothly, I would need to have a permanent station for the camera to be set up as well as being able to get the photos directly into a computer, not of which I have atm. But perhaps its an investment for the future. Its after all for work, so at least I get that tax break. Now for the Iphone camera app, I definitely learn to control that light much better. I've never been great at photography, simply becasue I don't have the tools to know how to manipulate the light. With brushes, I've always been good at doing the very same. It is, as you say, something I do need to learn to give the pictorial representation of my figures a lot more justice. Trust me, I see aaaaaaaall the flaws of every image I post on here. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write all these great comments. They'll definitely help me to get better photos, and its super nice of you all to do this for free. I'll take some pics soon of some Gore Gruntas and my Ironjawz giant and I'll try to implement the tips and trix you both proposed then!
  6. Dude! This is fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this and help me improve my photos. I'll definitely apply this to my next images.
  7. Dang dude! That's pretty sick. I'll have to do that actually! Right now I use Camera +, and have used the auto white balance. I still own and older EOS model, so I may try to go back to raw. It just takes forever for me, as I am not a photographer. So I thought a straight in the phone approach would be much more shortsighted and time efficient. Thanks for the tip, my man! Thanks! They are the boars from the Orruk boar-rider box. Just some greenstuff on the parts where the rider would be.
  8. Oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for giving me that hint! I'm gonna try that Thank you!
  9. Thanks man! You've been absent I have noticed. I hope you and your family are doing great!
  10. Here comes my Khorne, including my November painting contract, 3 Khorgoraths and 20/40 Bloodreavers. I hope you guys will like these. I didn't want to go with the standard blood red theme, even tho I think the Khorne models look amazing in those colors. Instead I chose to go for a Palid Whych Flesh armor with bronze. The concept came from the idea that the warriors, after each battle when they collect their heads, they fill their helmets with blood and put them back on, letting the blood fuel their rage. Some warriors are impatient ant just pour the blood as they go in battle. In this project, I also did my first ever try with Uhu glue to make slime strings and blood strings. I may also go back and do touch ups, but for now. This Tabletop Standard is enough for this project. Thanks for looking. I believe I am all caught up now and my next project will either be for work or my Stormcast NMM 1000pts list.

    This is great!! Just great!
  12. Very nice and muted in the colors. It looks like its a pretty neat style to go by. I'm not sure if you're open to feedback, but I would, on very few selected places bring back some saturation into the models. It would help to accent some detailing, for example the small squig on the Weirdnobs face. I'd love to see him slightly more saturated than he is. And the same with the weirdnob's eyes. Anyways. Looking fantastic!
  13. Looks great! I hope you'll keep going and finish an entire army in that standard. Any thoughts on basing yet?
  14. They wouldn’t be orcy without some pigs ^^ thanks man for commenting and checking out much work
  15. Thank you! @Tzaangor Management I’ll be excited to show the Ironjawz giant I’m working on for Heat 1 then. In the meantime, here is Grimgor and Fanatics finished for client.
  16. Got pictures taken of my Gutbuster Army as well. More bunched up tho. I am waiting for my grey/black backdrop for my khorne army. I think the brown would clash a little too much. Anyways, here we go: Next up will be my Beastclaw Raiders. Thanks for looking
  17. Got started on Grimgor this morning. Will probably finish painting him today. Part of the masterclass commission with the two fanatics.
  18. Haha! All that white does help to serve as a light box. ^^ Honestly, I bought a larger sheet of brown paper and misted it with black spray paint. It's definitely not ideal, and I have been trying to find better backdrops. But people seem to not like to reply to me.. (-___________-) I'll let you know if I find a better one.
  19. Thanks buddy! They are metal models, so I think they are the older ones.
  20. I have 2 Fanatics and Grimgor Ironhide Masterclass commission on the workbench right now. here are the two fanatics:
  21. I bought two new spotlight lamps from Amazon, and they work great. Tabletop lamps: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5TGT82/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They really illuminate the photo space so you can lower ISO and Aperture quite a bit. The package came with good bulbs and all. You need something to diffuse the light a bit, but I just used printed paper and taped it over. The bulbs do stick out a bit so its nothing fancy, but its cheap and does the trick, at least way better setup than I had before.
  22. Photogrpahy spotlights came in today, so I thought I'd give them a testrun. I still need to figure some ****** out but it is getting there. The yellow is so overpowering that it is hard to get everything to be at an equal level. Note that these photos are also taken with an Iphone 5. Thanks for being patient with the stupid rerun of new photos. I hope you all are not tired of my Yellow rant yet.
