  1. The Blackshard Armor Trait only ignores the first regular wound. In AoS they word rules consistently if things affect wounds and/or mortal wounds.
  2. I won 3 major victories and 1 minor victory at the Adepticon Championships this year using my Magma heavy Artillery Train, Tauruk, Castellan and Standard Bearer, 2 Skull Crackers and 4x10 Fireglaives. Beat out Idoneth, Ironjawz, Gloomspite mixed, minor vs another Gloomspite, lost to Beasts of Khorne (dude was playing slow though, and another turn would have made it on the edge). Sure Azgorh is slower, but bullets make up for lack of speed. Sure Azgorh lacks mortal wound protection, but there are so many other armies who also lack it...at least we can dish it out too, from a distance. Sure we lack CPs, but we don't need buckets of them, just a couple. Not sure if the Magewrath Throne is a Matched Play thing? Maybe a mysterious ally could help with those? As for the Blackshard Warhost, I don't think piling in counts as a move for the bonus purposes. Usually rules that count any kinda move as a move, say any kind of movement. A TO could say for sure but doesn't sound right to count piling in as movement to me for that rule application. As for the Castellan, I always give him the Thermalrider Cloak to make for his short legs. Then he can keep up with the choppy units.
  3. I'll have to disagree about the Skullcrackers, they dominated every game I have used them in. They do bracket but are plenty fast enough to get in there and mulch things. Used in conjunction with a Castellan wearing the Thermalrider Cloak, they are my favorite!
  4. HOOOORRAAAAAAYYYYY!!!! Time to make a third And a fourth magma cannon too.
  5. Plus Shaggoths are such cool models! I also wanna make a Jabberslythe.
  6. Played my Beasts of Khorne (using Brass Despoilers) vs a Tyrants of Blood Khorne army last Saturday. I got off Wildfire Taurus from my allied Shaman. Then in turn 2 I went second, so moved my Taurus, and it caused a mortal wound to Skarbrand meaning he would have to fight last in the next combat phase (and we're in my enemy's turn). So he got the charge off for Skarbrand, and normally he would have to fight last. But the player used his Reapers of Vengeance command ability and struck with his Rage-Thirster first, and then the Reapers command ability is worded the other Bloodthirsters in the battalion strike immediately after, so his Exalted Thirster struck, and then Skarbrand struck. He said that takes precedence over the Taurus effect. Is that correct? Or did I get hoodwinked? It's a tough call, as I can see both sides.
  7. I just ran my Beasts as Beasts of Khorne with allied Shaggoth and Bray Shaman last Saturday. Was very disappointed in the Shaggoth and Dragon Ogors, though the lasted a long time they couldn't remove even tiny units from objectives. And of course I got very few spells off. It's amazing how little a 6 happens on 2D6, and then there are unbindings, etc. I think for the Endless Spells the Taurus is a no brainer for the Beasts at the 80 points level, but I'd probably put in my Tzaangor Shaman (newly assembled) next time for that instead. I had Brass Despoilers Doombull w 9 greataxe Bullgors 3x10 Gors w shields 3 Dragon Ogors w paired weapons then the Shaggoth/Bray Shaman allied w all 3 Beasts spells Bloodsecrator and 5 Wrathmongers It was really tough to keep up with the Bullgors and keep the Khorne dudes wholly within range for the extra attacks. I think 3x3 Bullgors would have been much much better for that and the Brass Despoilers bonus too. Certainly worth me trying again, but changing out those allies for the Tzaangor Shaman, and trading Dragon Ogors for 2 Tuskgor Chariots. For a pure Beasts army I think I'd trade out my meager Gors for Bestigors. They're just SOOO much better. Don't have the models yet though.
  8. I also did my Wrathmongers with black armor (red skin), and they really fit in nicely with my Cult of Malal themed Slaves to Darkness units. But for Khorne I'm in agreement, the Thirster mob is the way to go. I got Tyranted badly this past Saturday. He had an Exalted Thirster too for extra good damage output. I'll probably run Flesh Hounds for battleline, and ally in 30 bestigors with a bray shaman I think. Definitely gotta make a Slaughterpriest though. Not sure I'd do Blood Sacrifice, I'm thinking Killing Frenzy for the Rage-Thirster. And that would have helped out my Bullgors in my Beasts of Khorne army (used Brass Despoilers) . Got my butt whooped 3 times, first by Seraphon, then the Tyrants of Blood/Darkfeast, then by a BloodHost/some Khorgoraths. I think using 3 smaller units of Bullgors would have been much more effective than a unit of 9. And Gors just stink. Dragon Ogors were tanky but just don't kill enough and can die as easily as many other units, they need a ward save to reflect their immortality! I haven't liked regular Beasts of Chaos, and don't much care for Beasts of Khorne either. I'll go back to my roots and rebuild my Daemons of Khorne instead. My mortal heroes can buff my mammoth when that's ready
  9. That's a super awesome take on the mercs! Assuming we still cannot use the Skullcrackers, I was thinking the two big giants could be useful, or Skroug's menagerie for one giant and some furies, who are fast and can fly, though I haven't seen how they compare points wise to K'daai. The vampire knights are also an interesting choice....or the flesheater courts if we can take a big dragony guy with them, I see no 'Royal' ones, but maybe they have peasant versions?
  10. And should our allies remain estranged and foreign, we can always have mercenaries!
  11. Using my all Clan Eshin this coming Saturday ! 2k points. I have the Warpseer as general with master of magic, the deceiver, a deathmaster in a skinktalon with 2x10 night runners and 4x20 gutter runners, and all the Skaven spells. I’ll see if the shackles fit too but I think they cost more points now. What relics should I take? I could go suspicious Stone and ignax scales for durability on the verminlords. Or I could go sword of judgement and dimensional blade for the deathmaster and the Warpseer for more deadly weapons. I could go ninja and use the cube of mists and shadow magnet trinket for the deathmaster and deceiver. Really hate that one use limitation though. Hmmmmm
  12. WHAT?! That will suck ****** if those aren't available to use in matched play anymore. They were THE units that wrecked the most face for me in every game I had them.
  13. Oh yeah, I forgot about Centigors; I'm gonna hunt for at least 5 of those now. So fast and surprisingly tanky in melee. I think those and the Tuskgor Chariots might end up replacing my Dragon Ogors and Shaggoth in my Beasts of Khorne army.
  14. I will have to wait until I get my GHB tomorrow to know what this format is all about. But it sounds intriguing and a good way to do many small games in a short time?
  15. I must have been low on caffeine, my math suffers badly without it! But I think medivouk's roving lone chariot usage is a good one. Probably hard to get 4 in a single unit to strike another single unit most of the time too.
  16. Anyone try TuskGor Chariots in a Brass Despoilers Khorne army? I was looking at them, just because I have bits to make one, and they get 7 attacks of various sorts normally, plus 1 attack for all weapons on the charge, and if we can maintain Wrathmonger and Bloodsecrator range, that's 28 attacks per model on the charge....and a unit of 4 chariots is 240 points, 6 wounds each at 4+. That seems pretty spicy to me. Slaughterpriest could maybe jack that up a notch too. I'd probably ally in a Bray Shaman for the extra 3" move too.
  17. I'm just going to use Drazhoath as a Sorcerer Lord on Manticore now. I think he'll have the same results but save me bunches of points. Frankly all Draz needs is 3+ to hit across the board, his spell has way to high of a casting value, and his Hellshard Amulet? needs to protect against mortal wounds as well as normal wounds. And even at 300 points he'd be solid then. Right now he's not on par with a Verminlord Warpseer, which he is very similar to in battlefield role and stats, etc. A few more relics and spells, and maybe tweaks to or more battalion choices, and Azgorh would be really really good. I sure do like the Blackshard Armor Trait. That makes them very durable.
  18. Ooh good! My Beasts of Khorne have 30 Gors in it. Might get me another Endless Spell for my allied Shaggoth to use.
  19. Cool, feels like I'm on the right track then. If I can get my 20 Night Runners and next 20 Gutter Runners painted by the 28th, I'll use Eshin at a 3 game local tournament on the 29th. Should I take the Warp Lightning Vortex and Shackles? Or should I take the Vermintide and Doombell instead? I've used the Vermintide, which is okay and somewhat useful. Not sure about that bell yet. Shackles I've screwed myself over before too many times, but coupled with Warpgale on the Warpseer and the big Vortex, that could keep people in the electric field for a very long time.
  20. Yeah, I think the Nightrunners are the ones many folks call 'monkey rats'. The Clan Rats look decent don't they? I think the best approach for them would be a Clan Rat/Night Runner kit, as they're pretty similar aside from the weapons/icons. Plague Monks have their own rotting robe stuff, and Stormvermin are more armored and differently armed. I have 80 of the old metal Gutter Runners. All of those actually look pretty good. It's so tough to say if many of the AoS units will ever get new plastic models. I am pleased they at least get rules so they aren't banished to the shelf! Weird though they made the Death Runner for Silver Tower, have a great plastic model(s) and then don't put it in the battletome? Ogroid Thermalturd made it into the Tzeentch book!
  21. Ooh Thanquol! Interesting. He can't be Dreaded Skitterleaped though cuz he's over 12 wounds. What loadout did you give him, 2 and 2, or all flamers or all fists? I was wondering if Skreech Verminking would be good for a general too. Warpseer certainly is, I've used him at 1K points. 40 Night Runners, eesh, I really don't wanna paint more of those! But we do get a big bonus of hits/wounds/bravery for that many in a unit. Better than 20 Gutter Runners? How did you find the Slinktalon? Worth it? Seems worth it. I'll have to find the Betrayers Crown to see what that does. I like the idea of the Deathmaster though, hiding until it's the right time to strike.
  22. Caught a glimpse of Mercenaries in the new GHB on BoLS today. Anyone see those? There is a dwarf artillery group you can take, just uses allied points, so you might not be able to fit in allies, and it costs the first turn's CP to have them. But kinda neat, and maybe useful? Though they might not be much better than Skull Cannons and the Bloodthirster whips and flails, etc.
  23. I'm happy to see someone did start a pure Clans Eshin discussion! I decided for now to go pure Eshin for my Skaventide. Always had great results with my Gutter Runners in generic Chaos armies before the battletome, so I have gathered 4x20 of them, and 2x10 Night Runners for the Slinktalon. Also went with a Warpseer and Deceiver, but will try 100% pure Eshin at some point with an extra Deathmaster and maybe 2 Slinktalons for an extra relic/CP if I get more Night Runners. My thing with Eshin is that Nightrunners seem so bad, I can't not run masses of Gutter Runners. Even for twice the points they kill more than twice as much with the better hitting and wounding for both shooting and combat, plus more shots and more attacks, and the rend -1. The outflanking is a really awesome bonus too. I have only tried them at 1000 points but went 3/2 at the Adepticon Vanguard tournament in March, and was pretty happy. Idoneth with 2 units of eels and Bonesplitterz beat me, but Bonesplitterz was really close! Looking forward to trying them out at 2000 points soon. Not sure I would use the Eshin relics though; I'm a huge fan of Aqshy's Ignax's Scales and Thermalrider Cloak for my two Verminlords, respectively, and for most of my armies. Anyone try the Eshin once per battle artefacts yet with good success? An Ulgu Sword of Judgement on a Deathmaster with fighting claws though, that would be pretty nice; also if he was the general to target an important enemy hero for the reroll hits trait, but that's only against a single enemy hero, so kinda meh there probably.
  24. Yes, we can deploy all the Gutter Runners to outflank if we want. That could come in very handy when facing another alpha strike army too. Doesn't a Deathmaster always have to come out of a unit of more than 5 Skaven? Or can they deploy normally? Haven't used mine yet. I definitely want to try the Deceiver with the Thermalrider Cloak! Seems really really fun, and coupled with the trait where he can't be seen 6" if he's near terrain, that would be really ninja-ish. Gutter Runners get 2 attacks each at rend -1. Isn't it 3+/4+ too, plus the Skaven bonus for hitting if they have a big unit intact? That's pretty good used next to a Deciever's command ability. I've only used them at 1000 points, and that was Warpseer General, Deceiver, 2x20 Gutter Runners, Vermintide. You make a good point about maxing out the heroes though. Warpseer is such a good general though for Skaven. Maybe I can squeeze in another Deathmaster somewhere, as now I have 80 Gutter Runners and 20 Night Runners for a huge Slinktalon.
  25. I found this on a search, looks like they're twice as tall as a dwarf, or even taller if they had good posture:
