  1. Slaves was meant to be added to the other gods and vice versa. Also the only thing he suggested was taking a single allied unit, everything else was straight from the StD book. Problem is Slaves has a few expensive units and heroes, so on its own its hard to be truly competitive and many of those units tend to fair much much better when used under the single gods lists. So while its a horrible book, on its own right, mostly because they simply added in all that warcry stuff that can't have marks and didn't really improve on some really old and ugly kits (chosen/mauraders on foot) or even just update the mauraders to Dark oath to go with the two new maurader characters that were added. It's a book that felt more like a rushed stop gap to make use of older kits till they get around to making new ones. That being said, I play Khorne and Tzneetch as well as StD army that I am working on. I have used some StD units in my tzneetch army to shore up some weakness and have seen many Blades of Khorne lists adding in some units too. Its just a perspective on things. Also my gripe with the book is the crappy and limited artefacts/traits. I hate how they added a limited amount and none are great or worth unit, nor did they add a generic undivided list that can be used no matter which subfaction you roll with.
  2. I agree to get the silver you want with depth, I would definitely just start with a leadbelcher primer, add the wash, then drybrush/wetbrush up the metallics to runefang steel, then silver to create a more natural shine. It would add depth, plus you would still have a silver color, and also not be such a pain to paint. Especially if you are going with the silver color as your metals and then painting other colors on top of that for other sections. Me personally if the majority of my model is going to be metal i start with that color as a base and first because it can be a messy step, then I can always color in the other sections and if i need to touch up a metal area, i can then apply the colors while skipping some of the steps i used to touch ups. In your case you touch up with the runefang/silver if you get other colors on it. As for other metals, it can be done the same way. If the metals for GW feel to thick to you, you can always try Vallejo Game Color. There metal line has solid coats and feels much thinner to me and i like the way it works. No matter if I am doing gold, brass, copper, or silver i always start with a darker metal first and build it up with a wash. The metals look better with depth to it.
  3. nice, my list is taking one sequitor prime with cache, a sequitor with sword and board, a castigator, evocator with great staff, and evocator with dual weapons. Its also an all female group. The idea is two for tanking, the prime has the cache on the chance I get stuck in and get a quad, and 2 evocators for that spell effects. The extra attacks are nice which is why i got one with sword, she is there to fish for crits and tank really. Its a slow force, but it will look good on the battlefield.
  4. As promised. I decided to get out my entire BoK for a quick photo shoot. Sadly its dark outside, so the lighting in this old house is a bit dark. Either way you get the general idea of the color scheme. This is my current entire force for my Blades of Khorne. I have some StD models but not sure i want to add them to my khorne or make a new army for a new god with them. I got 8 closes ups as well to get a zoom in on the color scheme. 8 is Khornes number so I had to stop at the close ups there. Anyways a little bit of background on the scheme. I wanted a color scheme that would allow me to take advantage of the Technical Paint, Blood for the blood God. I wanted to add blood splatter and coat the weapons in it. So i settled on a white/bronze scheme to the armor, although it is technically not white but light grey. I also added the blood to the bases, I wanted them gore covered as khorne should be. I accented this with wrappings and banners and tassles with Turquoise. Then I came to the issue of the flesh. Normal flesh tones blended to much with the white and bronze. I decided to go with a red tone, which is mephiston red built up in layers with mixxes of kislev flesh till i got to straight kislev flesh, then I added a crimson wash to the entire flesh. It creates a more fleshy feel to it then mixxing red with oranges. As for the demons, i decided to go with black skin. This would let me use the armor colors on the blood thirsters to tie it in, yet have them feel a little bit like their own color scheme. Skarbrand is still being worked on, I decided to give him an albino/drained flesh color look to make him stand out against the other demons. There is more i want to add to the army, like more hounds, the last blood thirster so i have the set, and some skull reapers. But I am holding off right now till i get the rest finished. Hoping to do that this year and maybe add those additions. All of this has been painted really in two main painting sprees since well April this year. First spree was april through May, where I painted 1250 points+ summons. The rest was painted in October to get a full 2k list done for a tournament. I have been working on skarbrand the past few weeks, when I can find time (again for another tournament), but he might not get finished before then. On to the pics. Will add the rest in another post.
  5. well here are my Sylvaneth. These were a simple to paint army, inspired by the color scheme from WoW's Emerald Nightmare dungeon. I wanted something different than the greens, and decided, a Shadowy Tree army full or malice. They have been nicknamed Khorne Trees, but I haven't really named the army persay. I just saw the red as their Malice showing through, and that they were from the realm of Shadow. This is only 1900 points done, as I still have the second branchwraith, the remaining endless spells, the third set of awakened woods, and 40 dryads for summoning to finish to have the army complete. Pics taken from phone. I will have to get my Blades of Khorne Army posted sometime soon as i need a new pic of them. They are also done in a different and sorta unique color scheme.
  6. So i am thinking about getting some KO now that I can finally field the balloon guys as troops. So i put together this list but it feels rather small to me. So i figured I would ask you guys to see what you think. Its a 2k list, and haven't really decided on which skyport yet, but might have to go with the hate magic one to get some dispells in there. Its exactly 2k, as well. General is the new flying Edrinmaster. 2 units of skywardens (minimum units) 2 units of edrinriggers (minimum units) 2 gunhaulers 1 ironclad 1 unit of 10 thunderers (not sure on loadout here) Battalion, Gunhaulers skywing Khemist or Arknaughts ( same cost, just not sure if the hero would be more useful to buff thunderers or the unit to get more bodies) Edrinmaster on foot, or a navigator. ( Edrinmaster comes in start collecting so it would be the budget friendly option, plus extra heal for ships). Again depending on which skyport I take, some other units could become battle line,, but I only got 3 airships, and 4 units of hitchhikers so the entire army can't go in the air. I really would like 2-3 heroes at least because I always seem to get those missions that require heroes to hold objectives. I also was thinking of another list that got 6 airships, but it requires taking the skyports to make frigates or gunhaulers battleline but could be any skyport really. That list had no battalions, an ironclad, 2 frigates, 3 gunhaulers, the balloon general, and 2 units of edrinriggers, and left me with 120 points for another character or a unit of thunders/edrinriggers. It seemed more like a fun hey i got airships list but not much to hold objectives. They just feel super elite in number of models, but with all the shooting/mobility could be quite effective.
  7. personally as a Blades of Khorne Player, I think you would be better off running a Khorne army with STD addded in, than the STD army as khorne. Unless you find yourself mixxing marks and taking a wizard, going pure khorne will get you more benefits from blades. You can get extra attacks, more options, and better antimagic through a BoK list, plus you could toss in a blood thirster if you wanted. The aura's are so so compared to what the buffs you get from BoK. The aura is 12 inches, and only gives you a reroll to hit of 1s, unless its your general which means just one guy, and all that guy adds is the 1 to wound rolls. its not bad but limited due to the size of the aura. If you go BoK, the secrator gives you the +1 attack to all khorne units so it works on your STD marked khorne units, and you can't take the battalions but they aren't worthwhile anyways most of the time, and you could easily field one from BoK. Plus the artifacts from BoK are a bit more khorne like anyways.
  8. my bet is that the Chaos warriors are like they always have been, all using the same type of weapon. meaning you either go with sword and board, double swords, great weapons, or halberds. Mixxing them would be sweet but they have never been like that.
  9. hey nice list. I only got to bring up one issue. Unquestionable resolve that you have on one of your Sorcerer lords, it can only be used by cultists. you dont have any in your list, granted you can summon them in for free as a ravager if you use the command ability but I just wanted to point that out. It lets you use a few different command abilities but only on cultists that are within range. So its kind of limited. Also i know everyone is praising these large 40 man blocks of Mauraders, however all these aura's that they can hand out require you to be "WHOLLY" within 12 inches. That is really hard to do for a large 40 man block, even more so the larger the bases. I think Mauraders are still fortunate to be on 25mm bases which helps, but I am going to tell you from experience (playing Blades of Khorne), that 12 inches is really hard to keep units completely in range. If one model of that unit is outside of the 12 inches, they can't benefit from the aura at all. Also I keep reading about khorne lists bring secrators and wrathmongers, again the secrators aren't a bad choice but wrathmongers have to baby sit the said small unit they want to give their buff to, its also wholly within and 12 inch range, so its hard to buff units especially larger units. So just trying to keep everyone mindful of this change. Some abilities say within range, other abilties wholly in. The aura's are rather limiting on large units, even units of 10 knights due to their large bases are going to be hard pressed to keep the entire unit in range of a mounted Lord.
  10. they both look good, however my only issue is the green tongue. It stands out. I do like it, nothing wrong with it, but when paired up, i feel the first one should be given a similar color to its tongue, it would also break up some of that dark red color on it, but I feel that feature should be shared, maybe a darker tongue than the younger and brighter looking mammoth.
  11. green stuff world also sells green stuff rollers that are used for bases. they have many different designs, but yes, as mentioned, super sculpy or green stuff would be the way to go if you wanted to add something to the bases that is a bit more sculpted structure and not just sand/flock/static grass/snow mix.
  12. nice mod conversion for the old mortars. A little odd that he is still holding a ball in the front, but at least it still can't be discounted as being a ratling gun. As for the storm vermin verus plague monks. All i can say is stormvermin are expensive for what they do. If a full 40 man unit maybe cost 400 points versus 500, i could see justifing them more, as it stands they are still expensive to field. However...they count as battleline, while plague monks only count as battleline if you are taking all pestilin clan stuff. So...in that regard, the stormvermin who are battle line, so replace one of the battle line tax units, to add some hitting power in your army, might be better for someone who isn't taking plague monk stuff. For example, I am going mostly skryre, I personally don't care for the nurgle taint or disease ridden rats, but I i would like some bodies to support my weapons and large gun toting stormfiends. That being said, acolytes are too expensive to buy, converting is time consuming, and a bit more expensive than the clanrat/stormvermin alternatives, so it leaves me taking either clanrats/stormvermin for numers and plague monks aren't worth me taking because at that point they are eating into the points i need for skryre weapons and units. That being said, right now I am going clan rats, simply because stormvermin are too expensive to field points wise for what they do, and eat into my points needed for other goodies. Its a shame too, because I really like the look of the stormvermin, and would rather see my armie being all armored up as a skryte clan would probably be.
  13. those rat heads are great. However I would like to recommend that instead of 3 bare heads (since we can get plenty of those from clan rats already), perhaps some heads with skryre looking armor or goggles. on them but no gas masks on those 3. Like maybe one rat head that has a monocle or bionic face, one with a pair of goggles and no mask and one with armored helm that has maybe a single eye piece on it. The 3 with gas masks are great right now. As for other pieces, perhaps a few globe arms that can be added to clan rat/stormvermin kits and backpacks that are skaven looking. The arms you could maybe have a right and left arm that are throwing them, and a right arm/left arm that are simply holding the orb, and maybe a pair of arms that is pulling an orb out of a pouch. These parts would do well to help with the acolyte conversions and I could definitely see buying some right now if you had them.
