  1. if you have your old whirlwind model that might work - you'd need to put it on the correct base of course. I used my old hellcannon as a dreadquake mortar until I could afford a proper one. In your case this is different as you just cannot get the model anymore.
  2. regarding elves - I can see many of the old lines which are still popular just being re-written into new lores, much like the old vampire counts wet undead (vs dry undead and see through undead) were re-written as flesh eater courts with new backstory and lore, witch elves became daughters of khaine etc. The handy thing for GW is that it makes economic sense as the bulk of the army core is already there, so only a few new models will be needed to refresh the faction - a-la beastmen.
  3. not quite. The original end times imagined by rick Priestley and Alan Bligh was to be focused around the four sons of the great Kurgan, each of which devoted themselves to one god, Tamurkhan being the first story told. We're going back easily over a decade now. By the time Tamurkhan was written the end times idea was gaining momentum at the mothership. But the time it had blossomed into the roots of a big campaign Priestley found that the whole end times thing was taken out of his hands and given to the others to run with, namely within the main GW side of the business. At the time Warhammer forge had also made the giant chaos dragon model- which may be where the tzeentch rumour came from. The irony was that Warhammer forge now would make oodles of cash as stuff is allowed in AoS games unlike back then when you couldn't even play FW stuff in warhammer world. I hope that for beastclaw raiders FW bring back the rhinox riders - that would be absolutely epic. I've still got mine and i'd definitely start a beastclaw army if that were to happen. FW are in a state of flux at the mo, there's lots of stuff they want to do but can't due to resources - or rather lack of them. I don't doubt that penciled somewhere there's a wonderful tamurkhan-esque campaign book including shartor, the dragon dude, and skaarac, but this side of time, massive cash and heresy slowing down - like you, I can't see stuff like that happening anytime soon, especially not since Fires of Cyraxus has been pushed back several times now. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised by FW, but reality is that they've got some serious money spinners which they know are cash cows, and would be foolish to not to milk those for all they're worth. I am surprised however that they weren't given the 9th edition fantasy battle to own as they were 7th ed 40k ruleset for heresy. I think that it would have made the "legends" age players happy and maybe even allowed them to look at AoS seriously once their rage quitting subsided if the system they so adored had not been torn out from underneath them. But going back to the original post, there were no definite concrete stories telling of the other three brothers at the time of Tamurkhan, the idea was being formulated but it then got taken on wholesale by the main GW studio vs FW studio.
  4. I do miss warshrine mammoth and also delivery van mammoth who could carry a unit of warriors and unliad them- that would be fun with traitors mist running. who knows, maybe the darkoath and slaves love runs deep in the mothership and we’re in for a real treat.
  5. I totally agree with you, we used to run chosen blocks of twenty so silly money including the command group. The difference between blood knights and chosen was that they were actually really nice models. Those horse poses are what chaos knights should have had. i really like the idea of a varanguard type unit on foot in one of those moments where after the opponent has theown everything at the big slab of warriors and is feeling pleased with themselves, those guys rock up and that look of “youve got to be kidding me...” appears on his face, sort of like when i dropped my two mammoths and a cursd ettin during the deployment phase
  6. back in fantasy Chosen were a kit more than that. They were just stupid cost points wise. Stupid thing was that in order to make chosen we used to buy a box of knights just to get the torsos and graft them onto the warrior bottoms - Those chosen finecaste were just so they could drag out the metal mould a bit longer but they looked pretty dire. The great weapon in fantasy hit hard - its just that it hit last. In the same way that undead players so desperately prayed for plastic bloodknights. Anyhoo... that was then, this is now.
  7. I think this is where much of it will end up. I genuinely believe that if it came out in the last days of fantasy - carrying the new aesthetic of the AoS hidden in plain sight then it's pretty much here to stay and will eventually get a lore and faction book, so dwarf players with iron breakers etc, just keep the faith. However I think that finecast stuff like chosen etc will either get the new model or yes, get retired into the legacy section. That's not to say we won't be getting new chosen - but maybe we'll get a brand new unit called exalted oathsworn warrior or some such that will be a chosen in everything but name. It's how I'm seeing the Darkoath, they're the marauder for the age of sigmar, and by that token, if they retire the original chaos marauders I won't be disappointed as those guys have served us well. I only get disappointed at the retirement of a model when there's nothing to replace it. But if Marauders get retired and replaced with darkoath, I'll feel that it's an honourable transition. Things like the hellcannon for instance, I still treasure my three. I only wish that the chaos dwarfs Legion of Azgorh could have made use of it. They are just counts as .. in my legion army. Oh well.
  8. looking at the Darkoath warband coming out for shadespire it's looking like you get your wish as a few of them are armed with javelin and bows - and about time as you say. Last chaos kit that got replaced was the chariot and dragon ogres back in 8th edition from metal offerings. I think dark smurfs got some rehashed toys as well. We've been crying out for plastic chosen since forever as you know. Slaves as a faction isn't going to go away, it's too ingrained in the player psyche as well - so based on this, I really hope that they look to finally give some of our long overdue models a birthday. @Frowny I'd buy the marauder horsemen anyway, they're just lovely models full stop - if in doubt give them the chaos kinght weapon arms and you can use them to beef up your knight units.
  9. I agree. In terms of refreshing the model line as well it wouldn't take a lot. The warriors are still a nice kit and hold their own quite well, but maybe a Warriors with more dynamic poses now that they don't have to rank up, maybe a chosen/ warrior dual kit? The marauders could be replaced by darkoath really as in the old world they were the barbarian tribes who had turned to chaos to survive. Horsemen were always a nice model and still stand up well. I don't see darkoath being a single standalone release like idoneth for instance- don't get me wrong, I'd be happily surprised if this was the case I'm preparing myself for a barbarians dual kit or two and a centrepeice that is faction specific like the beasts got their herdstone. Naturally the wish list runs a lot longer than that, but I'm just dreaming. I'd love to see FW bring the mammoth back but it would take massive re-engineering to do in order to drop the pricetag on it. - hollowing it out, making it easier to mould - huge effort required. A plastic mammoth would be a massive ask from GW - and I just can't see it, as much as i'd want it. From a rules point, it'd be great if the darkoath barbarians got skin wolves as a present from forgeworld as well - I can totally see this faction having shape shifters and were creatures in it, and they being seen as champions or blessed individuals. I'm looking forward to it more and more, but purposefully keeping my expectations low so that hopefully, all being well I will be pleasantly surprised.
  10. yea... but we do need a new plastic doombull, so they might as well make it a dual kit... crack on GW...crack on...
  11. ahhh yes - I'd forgotten about all that carry on. Still a damn good excuse to bring him back with a new model though.
  12. Ok, so I’m clutching at straws here... ive just looked over the Warhammer legends beast men pdf. there isn’t an entry for taurox the brass bull. Could this be an error or could it be that hope against hope Khorne has seen fit to release him back to the mortal realms? perhaps he was trapped in nagash’s realm and released in the necroquake? Pure wishlisting at best, but who knows!
  13. I was thinking more that tzaangors are a nice god specific beast man aesthetic over and above their mortality per se. 😊 id very much like to see Taurox back in the mix as a character leading either blades or beasts, especially since a certain rat is back now. Anyway, here’s looking forward to wrath and rapture and seeing Karen’s rack in the flesh.
  14. Depending on his size, if he’s big then I’d like to convert him with two heads as a mount for my chaos lord arbaal style for a lord on daemonic mount. and yes... totally agree about tzaangors.
  15. I know. hence asking the faq team to consider and clarify in the next round of faqs.
  16. 1.Yes and no for point 2 ☹️ I’ve sent faq team the conundrum to address in the next faq. all we need is beasts of chaos to get the mortal keyword and we’re cooking on gas. it would be the final piece of my khornate jigsaw. in in the process of trying to work out if I can get khorgorath hooves onto the bullgor lower legs instead of feet! perhaps we can put a loud voice gw’s way over this- tzeentch gets a magical ogre as a hero, I think we khornates should have our blood soaked psychopath bull.
  17. Well, I wasn't actually saying that the darkoath were the new marauders although that's exactly how it read! what I was trying to get at was that GW back at the birth of AoS made it clear that the old world factions were resigned to history and as such not getting any more updates or new models. However, I took that to mean the old world armies themselves (Warriors of Chaos, Beastmen, Dark Elves et. al). We've seen that the new factions have emerged and sucked in those old model lines with a rebox and a rename - witch elves become daughter of Khaine etc. They said that the new factions would be getting the new models, so don't expect to get a new chaos chosen for your Warriors of Chaos compendium for example. Nor did I ever expect that the chaos warriors would get a model overhaul and still be called chaos warriors for example, but they might be a new Doomsworn warrior or whatever for the Slaves to darkness faction. In the same way that I never saw "new" chaos marauder sculpts coming out and being called chaos marauders. Perhaps it would have been better to say that the Darkoath are the barbarian marauder tribes of the Age of Sigmar in the same way that the Chaos Marauders (khurgan, hung etc) were the barbarian marauder tribes of the old world. Its also easy to forget for new players that the old model lines by AoS standards are quite static - as mentioned in the Warriors post a few pages back, yet you need to remember that they had to rank up side by side on square bases - AoS gives the designers so much more design freedom in this respect, which is a great thing as we know that so many of the early AoS release models were date stamped from back in fantasy, and thus were waiting in the wings for a very long time. They would have never made it to a fantasy table top as ranking them up would have been a nightmare unless the base size changed. I probably still haven't really made what I was trying to get at any clearer.. oh well!
  18. This was always their standpoint right from the get go. It was in the original AoS FAQ on launch. They would not delete older lines but the inference was that don't expect any new support for them by way of re-sculpts etc, rather that new model lines would come in and eventually the old lines would die off due to natural wastage. We're seeing this in the marauders being superseded by darkoath, and in truth I welcome this, as they're an army and aesthetic I've long looked forward to - and a worthy successor to the marauders of old. I hope we see the same with warriors and knights - they won't be called warriors and knights of course but a new re-imagining and lore would again be a great big deal for Slaves to Darkness. I wouldn't be surprised if the varanguard were not going to be the successor the old chaos knight sculpts if fantasy had still been around. Darkoath gives me hope for something similar to happen for theslaves of everchosen or Armoured chaos or whatever you want to call it. We wait and see.
  19. Of all the characters to make a return to the realms he morghur and Malagor would probably be most likely candidates - the brass bull after all was infused with daemon essence after biting the head off the bloodletter champion, and more importantly in him we have a khorne hero who is a combat machine - as they should be - also (for me selfishly) he could lead a full blown khorne army. Now that thanquol is back (curtesy of the new gotrek audio book) anything is possible. I also think I heard right that the old beastmen khorngors and pestigors were coming up in the next round last chance to buy.
  20. Okay, you can all sleep easily and the netsayers can calm down. by all accounts, there was one at blood and glory and it went down turn one. balance has been restored in the nerdosphere. carry on..
  21. I can only imagine that in model terms they’d be warhorse sized. the book was a great read, very condensed but gave a nice overview of the shifting allegiances and politics of the darkoath tribes in order to just stay alive. the ending is a true twist, and very surprising i have to say. The best thing about her is that unlike valkia, for anyone who’s read her novel, she doesnt come across as a complete tool! it presents the warqueen i feel, in an interesting light, constantly questioning and searching for answers and reasons, and all the while does a good job of getting across the fact that the barbarian tribes, however much they think they know, actually know very little about whats outside of their world. its set in Asqy so theres a little more to be learned about the realm. translating it to game, and i mean this positively, i feel we’re going to get the equivalent of human beastmen. i get the feeling they will be able to stand alone on their own very successfully but will seamlessly slot into other factions as well. im wondering if there will be a core set such as barbarians and horsemen, and maybe chariots, with things like mammoths etc being specific to certain tribes in different realms. In the book it shows that darkoath do not know all the tribes out there. She does recognise them as and refer to them as darkoath however. the other thing thst i particularly enjoyed was the detail that they dont aspire to be encased in armour, the tin cans are a world away from what darkoath believe in and are about. She has a rune shield as well as well as an enchanted javelin which were both wonderfully understated, so im looking forward to seeing these in game. im looking forward to this release more and more.
  22. Im just reading war queen now chariots drawn by wolves as big as a warhorse for starters more to follow...
