  1. I think use of the Frigate will come down more to what role your KO are there for in your army. Unlike running a full KO list that frigate is going to be up field and dangling out there without surport by itself. The KO shooting is good, but it's not great, 1 frigate up field with a single KO unit isn't going to be relied upon for an alpha strike that deletes enemy units or creates a situation where its safe from a counter charge. As an example, For 100 points less you can grab a bridge and 20 irondrakes that will prob be a better alpha strike (though that bridge is not reliable either) . If i was to use the frigate I would simply use it to drop off a KO unit on a flag early and then retreat it back out. The unit can stay and be a pain on that point and the frigate can then be used as a gun platform for the rest of the game and as a threat to the other players back line. I think a unit of 2 drakes for 340 points would make for a better alpha strike and be cheaper. Having said that, it's a Frigate, regardless of how good or bad it is it looks like a hoot to play and who doesn't want a unit that teleports around the board all day long, shooting off cannons and carrying a squad of men with it. That's cool. So I'm thinking for fun and a good unit combo then the frigate is great. For the best use of points in a competitive list... I'm not so sure.
  2. I just want Alleriale to get a 5+ ward save. If they just did that and only that I'd still be happy.
  3. Yes. There's a dwarf cannon that can be built as an organ gun with dwarf crew. I bought 2 just before they dropped it from the game 🙄. There's a merc company that allows you to field 2 of them plus a gyrocopter... But no one talks about merc companies Anymore... I'm not even sure if there still in the game.. Pity.. 2 cannons were pretty cool.
  4. Iron Drakes all the way. The leader will get 2 shots on 3+3 at - 2 for d6 damage each against monsters (if he stands still, but that includes overwatch) In current meta that's gold. But there speeds a real bummer as they only move 4 and lose half there shots when they move. Can be difficult to use and they really want transport outside of living city. So that's additional cost. Expensive unit. But top tier shooters for sure.
  5. I agree with Lord Krungharr 100%. Pheonix Guard are the best unit in cities I think. The only reason I don't run them in an army is if there high point cost prohibits me from running something else I really want in a particular army. Otherwise I take them everytime. Only played 3 games of Aos3 with frost pheonix. But hes performed superwell everytime. I load him up with the atcane tome and then bassically launch him off against the biggest baddest enemy unit i can get to. Hes only died 1 out of 3 times (which surprised me lol) ,did very little damage really but 3 out of 3 times that unit he charged (worth roughly double his points) did not get to participate in the game at all or for the first 3 rounds ..which is what his job was. i love the steam tank. its just one of those iconic units..but in his current form hes just too unreliable...you cant even count on his movement to have him where you need him. His shooting is good but when you facter in the swingy d6 damage and the swingy 4+ to hit...again its just to unreliable. His melee damage is not good either. For 240 points your better of with a unit of 2 fulmonators. shooting mortal, reliable 10 inch move and they hit like a truck. 10 points extra.
  6. The part on the hurricanum where the mage stands fits a 25mm base no probs. I just pop the based wizard on top when I have a wizard and take him off when I don't. Some times I just sit him on the hurri base too, bluetack him on... Just cause he looks cool there. Just walking it off. A wizard and his hurri shooting the breaze.
  7. I'm quite happy with the new rules. There not spactacular I agree but they do not replace any other rules either. Which is why I like them. I don't need to remove anything from my dragon or griffin to use the mount traits and although the new battle tactics again arnt a meta shifter, there free to use and they add another tool to the tool box. If i use them great, if i dont great.. The griffin trait i like. a rebirth plus a teleport might be worthless in game, then again it might be the equivalent of a free griffin. It'll all depend on the game being played. But again, I'm not giving up anything for it. It also makes me a little more comfortable running the wizard griffin for above reasons. We all know he's going to die, but if he can do a lazaras maybe he gets to die twice. Others can decide how competitive the rules are, I don't really know. But I like them. There freebies.
  8. Yes. I think your right. Just a phoenix as general and no foot surport for them and save a command point for battleshock. That's seems best way forward. I'm taking the phoenix anyway so that's now down to 525 for the unit. Much more doable. It worries me with no foot hero for surport but it's an extra 200 points for rest of army... So yeah.. Thats prob way forward for using them.
  9. Yes. It's the old WHFB stats of 4+ to hit on dragons and the d6 damage. They have never updated that. Makes me too worried to run dragons. Swingy in the hit and swingy on the damage. It's a recipe for stuff all damage. Can't rely on the damage and they can't tank so i find it hard to find a role for them in the army as well. The frost phoenix with arcane Tome does everything the dragon should for just 25pts more...and is reliable. If the dragon just went to 3+ to hit and say base 4 damage on a hit I'd be running them more.. I could even live with the 4+ save and +1 for the shield. There only 300 point moster after all. The unit I find sitting on the sidelines for me since Aos3 are my pheonix guard.. Which is sad, because there still the best infantry in the game I think. But I won't run them without a pheonix champion for battleshock and they can't go to 30 without becoming battleline. In that situation the phoenix hero is general so you might as well pop a second hero down for the extra command points. So that's a 730 point investment for basically 1 unit and I really struggle to get that in plus build an effective army around it. Well, an effective tourniment army anyway. The points investment now is very large I find.
  10. Warding Brand vs Dagger of Jet: So I throw warding brand on a hero, that hero then goes in to have a go at Nefirata, Nef has the dagger of Jet, if she gets a hit, then after damage she rolls a 5+ and my hero is slain. Let's say my hero had 10 wounds left. In the core rules the definition of slain is when a model has obtained the same amount of wounds as there wounds characteristic. So.. Would you agree then that by definition when nef slayed my 10 wound hero then he must have taken 10 wounds and therefore gets to role his 10 dice for mortals wounds as per the Warding Brand spell ? Or does he just get removed and the remaining wounds do not count as being taken, therefore no mortal wounds throw for my hero? What's the opinion out there for this?
  11. Yes. Agreed. Core Rules, GHB, FAQs, Faction Books and White Dwarf (if they say it's accepted) are the rules. Everything else is a simply a platform to view those rules. If the platform does not agree with the rules from these places then the platform is wrong. That's my thinking on this anyway.
  12. They changed the wyldwoods so that 1 wood could be set up in 3 different places instead of 1. Effectively making 3 wyldwoods in 3 different locations for every Wyldwood you put down. It has now been changed again with last update so it's back to how it was.. You can put down 1, 2 or 3 pieces of wood scenery but only in 1 location. You can find the new wyldwoods warscroll on the latest Sylvaneth FAQ. As a side note. It's very clearly a mistake but if you check the new aos app it has given Alarielle Verdant Blessing on her warscroll.. 😂. So she can just make trees for Living City now.
  13. Yes these guys have me excited. I think they will be a nice addition to some cities. Still working through the combos but I'm going to prob just run the hero plus a unit of 2 to start. That will come in at 540 points.. So not so large a point cost. In hallowheart I don't see why there 4+ ignore spell won't combo with hallowheart 5+ (for equivalent of 2+ ignore spell)... Which is pretty sweet. Living cities they will combo very well with the LC command for an additional move on top of there once per game move. So potential first turn (or later but only once per game) were looking at move 12", shoot (with hero ability) in HERO phase, move again 12 then shoot plus then use LC ability to then move again. That would be 36' total move plus a 3' charge for potential 40' threat range. Not really sure what they'll do once they get there but it's got potential for taking out a back line important thing. The hero also has - 3 rend on a non unique. So that's going to be great for spear of the hunt. - 4 rend and strike first, if it's timed right we're getting all 3 dragons from both units hitting first in your own combat phase (only if your charge first of course) First turn tempest eye looking at 2 15' moves and 2+ save. I'm sure there's plenty other good combos as well. So I'm looking forward to them. They look fun at least.
  14. When it comes to the cost, I'm not too worried here. I'll see if it's worthwhile at the time, subscribe if I think it's worthwhile or not if I don't. Right now however I Can only see missed opurtunities with this app. Things that should be there but are not. To the point it makes me wonder if the designers actually play. Here's why: The army builder has no organisation. Units just go in as i add them to my list. Why are they not organised into leader, battleline, other etc ? This makes it so much harder to evaluate my army structure as I build. I can't see any information about my units unless I click on them while I'm building, who's my general again? who's got the artifact? How many artifacts have I chosen so far? That kind of thing. Basically lots of little quality of life fixes that anyone who's built on Azyr would appreciate. Result is I'm constantly going back and forwards just making sure I Havnt missed anything. It should show me how many enhancements I can use and how many have been used. Why does it not show how many wounds my army has? Why does it not show or give me options for selecting how many drops the army is? The app looks good, the info needed is mostly there, it could be an awsome tool with a few tweeks but it's just not organised well IMHO for people who are used to building lists and using Azyr while they play. I understand this app is new and that with time I may Learne to use it better and some of these concerns may go away.. So I'll give it some time. but Except for the warscrolls I don't see what this app will give me over say warscroll builder at this point that makes me want to pay $10 a month for it. And if I don't even get full warscrolls even if I do a paid subscription then I think it's just going to be a waste. Hopefully I am wrong.
  15. Have a question hoping I can get an answer for. Let me make my usual apologies if it has been covered previously. I have problem working out enhancement for armies. Not general enhancements, I get the rules here ok. I'll outlay the problem. I wish to make the Frost pheonix a wizard. No problem to do so, I simply give him my 1 artifact enhancement I get with army to start with. Now I want him to have access to the core book spell lore. Do I have to spend another enhancement to do so or do all wizards have access to this by default?
  16. First sorry if this has come up previously. I couldn't find it on here but have caught a few snipperts on youtube etc. No real answer iv seen. Question. Are the individual cities thier own faction or are they a subfaction? Heard a few bits of info for both answers but no real explanation. My heart says no, they are arranged as you would expect for a subfaction from GW but my head says they may not be subfactions because you cant play without choosing a city. Theres no unified command traits, spell lore etc to play as Cities of Sigmar without choosing a city. And how can they be a subfaction to an unplayable faction? i ask as this will effect the first choice of artifacts of power. How are others running this?
  17. Thanks for the FYI. I really didn't think it would be a serious list. Was just looking for a fun list to run against a good mate. Might have to switch to Sylvaneth and pick up some tree revs now...you got me thinking. The cities list was : Allerielle Treelord Ancient Durthu Assassin 3x 10 Freeguild Guard 3x 3 aetherwings 2x 1 gyrocopters 3 drops. And would pop a treelord from Allerielle just to keep the monster mash theme. Assassin is only there cause he's 80 points and I need a general. Thought it could hold its own... But not be a truly competitive list.
  18. What a fantastic and unique army idea. Will look stunning on the table and from what you've shown so far looks like you got the skills to pull it off. Hopefully you'll post some pictures of some completed stuff as you get along. Be well worth the view.
  19. Thank you all for response. I'll check them all out. Unfortunately with the changing of the Wyldwood rules I'm having a rethink. The aetherwings were to fill out the 12 slots needed to get Durthu, a treelord ancient and Alerielle into the game. The treelord was to put down 3 different woods within his 18' so that teleporting Durthu +2 attack could actually be of use. Then there was to be 8 msu units just to grab objectives and be a general roadblock while the big monsters teleported around and killed stuff..and got points. But with now being back to 1 wood in one location... Its not going to work. And yes, to answer the obvious question, at the point when your playing this many Sylvaneth units in this style army. Would it just be a better army if you played it as sylvaneth? ..yes!! But it looked fun.
  20. Well I'm going to do it, if only because every one else who can will two. Having said that, I don't think this is good for the game as a whole.
  21. I'm looking to run a silly not really competitive list for Living Cities. I'll need 3 units of 3 eatherwing for it. Since GW only sells with units I don't want (will never use) and ill only ever run in private, fun at home games I really don't want to fork out the $200 to buy them from GW (there also hens teeth on Ebay etc). Does anyone have any suggestions for Alt cheap minis I can proxy for there use?
  22. If you give your Runelord Curse it will be in addition to his normal prayers (warscroll) . Same as when a wizard gets an additional spell from a spell lore. Unfortunately Curse will still only go off on a 4+. The 2+ is specific for the Runelords warscroll prayers only.
  23. Oh yes that makes sense. I didn't calculate the damage for an extra hero phase for endless spells and purple sun. And of course Hallowheart has the spell protection going in case it goes wild. I can see why you like it. Glad Gotrek goes well. I'm in Aus, so no AOS games for us here in Sydney for a while. Still getting my head around changes from AOS 2 to AOS 3 and Havnt run Gotrek myself.
