Skaven is horde, DoK is horde, Fyreslayers to some extent, LoN relies on big units, Gloomspite best lists have 100+ grots. Slanesh is also large units of deamonettes. Even shooty armies like KO rely on 40 blocks of arkanauts to do good
Honestly I'm not enjoying the meta in AoS currently. I like big trolls and large monsters but the meta armies are always pretty much hordes unless the rules are just completely broken (read Gristlegore) GW did nothing to change the rules in the latests GHB to fix this issue. I would love to play a list with something like 3 behemoths but the best option competitively is to take none and just buff your hordes. I would love to play a Magma Dragon and a Dreadmaw in my army but why would I do that when 60 grots are cheaper and better at everything. Now I wont stop playing I love the game and love my monsters and troggoths but It's still quite annoying that even though GW designs low model count armies the rules dont actually support that play style at all.
Has anyone tried cool Monstrous Archanum units in with their troggs? Kinda want a Basilisk or a Merwyrm. Would look really cool in my swamp themed army.
After looking at lists to go well with my Glottkin I decided that adding some Skaven would be a fantastic way to go so I started with a plague furnace. Using a lot of colors I used in my Glottkin I ended up at a pretty nice finish
Even though this model is a pretty big pain in the ass to paint because of the multiple subassemblies I did love doing all the weathering on this model. Adding a lot of moss to the wood and stone and rust to the metal it does really look nice and worn.
The part I'm most proud of is probably the smoke. I had a lot of fun glazing the nice blends on it. For basing on this model I decided to keep it quite simple just a few rocks a bunch of rats under and around the furnace and then about 3 different types of tufts to create a nice lush Ghyran inspired base for quite low effort.
Thanks for all the tips! My opponent is playing dispossessed so summoning or their speed is not something im worried about. I cant really take squigs as Im at work and have my army with me
Troggboss
Troggoth Hag
3x Fellwater
3x Fellwater
Thats my list lets see what happens.
I recently bought a white dwarf promo goblin warboss from 2007 thats almost impossible to find for just 50€ you really need to try finding better prices my friend. Those store promos are not even that rare.
So how have people done with low model count armies? I have my first ME game today and im playing troggoths with only 8 models in my entire army. Would be fun to hear some experiences and tactics to playing with very low model count
Super quick tip about an interesting use for contrast paints. The high pigmentation lets the paints work incredibly well as tints for already painted models. I recently started disliking the color I had on my troggoths it was too bright and not swampy enough but instead of repainting completely I thinned Snakebite leather contrast in a 1/12 ratio with contrast thinner and slapped it very thinly on my troggoths without letting it pool. It gave them a very nice brownish yellow tint over the super bright ogryn camo I had on them.
Praise the Hag connoisseur. Its absolutely lovely. I dont run her that often in my 2k Troggoth list as I want more bodies but I play her in every 1k game I play and she has never let me down in those games. Absolute monster in low point games that one.
I take back what I said I created an even better list after just buying some Fimir
Spearhead: Fimirach Noble, 3x Fellwater
Main Body: Troggoth Hag and 3x Fimir Warriors
Rearguard: Aleguzzler Gargant
Its beautiful
@Knight Scáthach of Fimm You keep saying the troggboss is a buff machine and a versatile hero but the fact is his buffs are weak. He isnt that tanky with out a defence artefact, He doesnt do damage with out a damage artefact... He isnt that good when compared to other stuff. He is a support hero that needs to be supported to be viable. Look at something like the Verminlord corruptor. 12 wounds 4+ save 5++ save. more damage, two spell caster, his CA gives full rerolls for units with in 13" and his own spell is an insane horde killer. That mother trucker is infinitely stronger than a Troggboss and costs 260
Troggboss needs to drop about 60-80 points to be good and the regular should drop 60. They arent slightly over costed they are massively over costed. Troggherd should go down to a 100 points as the bonus it gives is so minimal.
