  1. Well i was up against Aerielle, Durthu and a Tree-lord so i needed something. I got Curse of Years off 3 times and Van Hels off only twice in 5 turns from 2 necros...... Getting magic off is great, particularly curse of years. But Van Hels on a block of 30 skellies is just nasty also. The opponent plays only meta armies so seeing his face when Durthu died and then Aerielle 2 rounds later was great. We are trying to train him to play nicer armies rather than his usual nonsense so we have fun games not hero-fests.
  2. Finally managed to get my death going with a mate playing on my side in another game against our local meta-lord playing Sylvaneth playing a minimum battleline list with Aerielle the Everqueen, Durthu, a branchwych, 3 kurnoth hunters with bows and 2 x 10 dryads for battleline. Had the following: Heroes Arkhan The Black (320) Wight King With Baleful Tomb Blade (general) (120) - Ossific Diadem Artefacts Necromancer (110) Necromancer (110) Units Morghast Archai with Spirit Halbeards (220) Skeleton Warriors Spears x 30 (240) Skeleton Warriors Spears x 10 (80) Skeleton Warriors Spears x 10 (80) Grave Guard Wight Blades (160) Total 1440/1500 Managed to get curse of years off three times in 5 turns and in 2 of those turns doing infinite mortal wounds. Managed to take our the Spirit of Durthu and Aerielle The Everqueen with it as well as bracketing a treelord. Amazing rolling by the mate to do it. Moved my big block of skellies up the board bubbling around the wight king and a necro. The 12 inch bubble of Ossific Diamdem is great, it's another deathless minions save and kept the block of 30 skellies going. These boys camped the main objective and the trees couldn't touch them. Lost the morghasts turn 2 from the spirit of durthu but kept the objective contested. Was able to pass a lot of wounds off from the necromancers so the 4+ to pass off is really helpful for the necro with a terrible save.
  3. It can be very difficult but i have picked out the worst examples from the last 12 months. The problem with the three i have described is the they're all so similar, they spend a lot of time together and they know how to wind each other up. I'm pretty much the middle man and play in most games to keep them from killing each other (i also use an army with rather narrow tactics in free guild so easy to beat).
  4. I have this a lot. Two of my group are brothers and the other is their father. The father is very dodgy when it comes to moving models and will argue rules he thinks aren't right when he hasn't got a clue. He will also concede if he doesn't like certain single combats (i.e. trying to concede on turn 2 because my freeguild wiped a single unit of blightkings because he charged a great company). The older sibling of the brothers is always doing things slightly dodgy. My favorite was giving the ironjawz mawcrusher a 2+ save and a 5+ rerollable ward save and then trying to argue that he knew it was ok (it wasn't). He also became salty and made us measure everything twice. He's usually pretty cool but will only ever play meta lists. I've only ever beaten him once. He regularly pastes us with just ridiculous lists. The older and younger siblings can't play with each other and the older sibling and the father cant play together or the salt flows heavy. As for frustration when losing, i try to remember its just a game. My frustration usually comes from forgetting abilities both of my own army and the enemy which. These days we actually have to get spells and artefacts written down because the older sibling and father seem to be very liberal in what they do and play only to win. A good example was using a nurgle spell once. Every time he rolled he rolled for the awful plague squall first, for like 4 turns. On turn 5 he didn't make the spell and didn't call what spell he was rolling first and then tried to claim it was his less severe spell (can't remember what it was) so that he could roll again for plague squall. Dodgy stuff like this ruins games and the desire to play future games. We have had to be very strict on the application of rules to ensure half the group play nice. It's sad but how it has to be.
  5. No i understand that fact very well. They are a business but they also want to keep their existing players happy. People won't start new armies if they do not trust GW to support them for an extended period in both fluff and warscrolls. It's a reasonable expectation that if you're buying an army that's available just like every other army in the range that it will receive a comparable level of support. Also making only partially supported armies available for new players who haven't spent hours working out how terrible their army is going to be would put them off continuing and buying another army. Blaming new or returning players for not researching armies before they buy them is just ignorant.
  6. Look you're not wrong but you don't invest in cars because the user manual is nice do you? A car serves a function. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest (again) that people buy GW products because of the game and fluff that has been developed alongside the models. I think a lot of people who have invested in legacy armies are frustrated that those god-awful sigmar marines get a new box every few months and yet older armies get zero, not even a touch up to outdated warscrolls. It's funny, the advice you gave is exactly what i did, the models are in a box and i drag them out every time i feel like ****** with a game. I capped my investment in free peoples. Well done GW, you just cost yourselves about $1500 in models i would have purchased if you gave it the slightest look. I'm not upset about it, i love the army and i enjoy painting them but the gaming group i am a part of is developing to be more competitive so i have gone a different way with AOS. I would argue it wouldn't take much effort to keep a lot of the older lists alive. Keep the models the same just write a FAQ or update the app. They seem to do it every time they bring something new and shiny out that upsets everyone so it can't be that hard.
  7. It's quite amusing seeing fear when i roll those 10 dices for CoY whether it works or not. I will have to give the soul-harvest a try i haven't used it yet. D3 mortal units for each unit within 3 could work against a lot of my groups armies.
  8. But could it be better with a little more effort? It's hard to keep some people invested in a game if their faction is forgotten about in the fluff and rules. As per my above story on the steam tank, i capped my investment at circa 3k points because my free peoples weren't supported. I was going to be one of those 5k point + players because i wanted everything but i can't justify the spend on an army that may or may not be supported and may or may not get an update. If all they did was sell toy soldiers there is no way they'd be as successful as they are. People buy into the game and the storyline. Anecdotal evidence counts for nothing I know but in my original gaming group of 8 we've already lost a draw player and a dark elf player because of a lack of support and nothing on the horizon. They stopped at about 1k points. I also note GW stores in Australia have massively downsized from reasonable stores to shoe boxes. Maybe all is not so rosy in the land down under.
  9. I forgot about the moon control. Isn't this once per game ability? Its a fantastic model for something like 200pts?
  10. In a similar discussion on this forum I am reminded that GW doesn't really care about these facts because they only sell models....... I am actually quite shocked that some people would blame the player for poor research if they buy weaker older armies which is what i regularly see on this forum. When people come back to the game or are new they are unfamiliar with rules and buy what looks cool/fluff they like. Having noticeably weaker legacy armies is a poor business model. I only came back to AOS because i'm now an adult and could afford a steam tank only to realise that it doesn't fit with anything and the whole army is borderline competitive unless you use Grand Order Alliance and bring in some of the horrible looking Sigmar-Marines. I now play death because I wanted to get into the magic side of things but the issues brought up in these threads seem to be very common across all AOS discussion boards.
  11. I couldn't disagree more. If it's all about models there are numerous model companies with a lower price point. It's about the fluff and the game for what i would argue with confidence the vast majority of people who buy GW models. If i was looking for models only i'd avoid GW entirely over price. I think its a reasonable expectation to have a relatively balanced game with factions receiving comparable rules and abilities. Obviously as they update things change, it's a fluid thing. But as these updates roll through and certain factions are left a long way behind, it makes investments in the game redundant. What GW have or have not ever claimed is irrelevant. GW either support their lines with fluff and rules or they should stop. Like someone said before all they have to do is dangle a carrot and say 'we're going to get to army X' but it might take a year. I can't see how even appearing to have some balance is an unfounded or unreasonable expectation.
  12. GW needs to do something with these legacy armies. People invest thousands in armies and if GW only half supports them it can be very frustrating. I have about 3000pts of freeguild collecting dust because they're not exactly competitive unless I play Grand Alliance Order and take those horrible looking Cellastar Ballistas. Taking artillery and wizards out of Free People and giving us 400pts to choose from is just idiotic. The problem isn't with models. The problem is with half-baked warscrolls, terrible battalions, having to ally in your own factions.
  13. Played against Skragrott twice, latent wounds are a pain in the neck to deal with (Da Moon Onna Stikk). With 6 attacks and a 28" range you're going to be able to tag 1 unit a turn for future mortal wounds. Just got to remember your ability!
  14. I've never used archers, I just couldn't see them doing anything for my army. The long shot is always good but handgunners are a squishy target. You want to keep them as safe as you can to get 2-3 long shot's off. Do Idoneth Deepkin have any teleport/deepstrike abilities? I've never faced them.
  15. Side note: whoever created the Morghast kit is a ******. I have never been so frustrated trying to build a model haha
  16. I think it is an AOS problem to be honest. Every release seems to bump the meta level up a mile. Gloomspite now generate an insane amount of CP's for nothing which wipes out their major weakness which was bravery. They can now also teleport things with a wizard that can have his spells buffed. Teleporting a mangler squig with a realm artefact giving it +1 to hit will wreck anything it can charge. You can also reroll failed charges with those insane amount of CP's you get.... Comparing boingrot bounderz to something like hexwraiths is a good indicator. Look at what 5 bounderz can do for 120 pts. DoK are just unpleasant to play against because they re-roll everything and when you only need a 3 to hit with correct buffs its guaranteed to wreck everything. I think we death players need skeleton archers back so we can have a little bit of range.
  17. I have been trying to field test Arkhan recently and relying on CoY to delete witches is a bad idea. Doing the math, even if you cast it, you're looking at an average of 1.6 mortal wounds per cast. Witches need to be nerfed. Their rerollable everything by turn 3 is super over-powered. One of my groups players has both a squig heavy Gitz list and DoK. When he wants to play one of these lists against my death its a loss before i even set up. It's funny though, he will not play my freeguild gun lines.....
  18. What is the intention of the small archer and handgunner units? They're extremely squishy. I'd assume the handgunners are there for the long rifle to snipe heroes?
  19. Can you use a squig gobba? Good range and good damage output for cannons etc. and gets +1 to hit against hordes. Also doesn't need LOS and ignores cover?
  20. Does anyone know where to get the warscroll/spell cards and grave markers for GLON without the battletome? Thanks.
  21. Bringing up hand gunners, what would happen first in the event of them being charged. Their stand and shoot ability allows them to shoot at the end of the charge move which is the same wording as the Boing! Smash! wording which is at the end of the charge move. In this scenario, would the gunners shoot first or take mortal wounds first?
  22. Further clarification is that we're playing straight up death matches while we all get used to new armies. The other armies we have are night haunt, free guild (no chance), Khorne, stormcast and Flesh Eaters. Objective games could be better. I'm trying to build my death up to compete with it (only played 3 or 4 games with it), currently painting a thousand skeletons is taking a while! There are several reasons we're all getting smashed. Those boingrots wreck everything. 10 of them is only 200 points and the mortal wound output is extremely generous. There are also 4 rending attacks after the mortals are dished out and they move fast. I feel he's got the synergy right because we can't focus on the boingrots or the colossal squig and the loon boss on a mangler go nuts. It's an extremely fast, offensive army with a lot of hammers to deal with at once so the tactics are basic. He also has the Skraggott which is a great unit for 220 points. 2 spells and a dangerous shooting attack with latent wounds. The 2k list also has 2 battalions so starts with 3 command points and 3 artefacts. I'll have to get him to send the list to me in full so people here can look at it. It's not so much refusing to play, more the games are not close enough to warrant continuing to play the squig army so not much is learned and it's rather demoralising watching game after game of the same thing. I can't say i've ever come up against an army that is so brutal to figure out.
  23. Well in the last few weeks no one has come close to beating the Gitz. To give context this list uses a loon boss in a mangler, a minimum of 20 those nasty biongrotz bounders, a squiggling gooba and colossal squids. Its a great list. I'm cool with losing i lose a lot but this list with its tricks and bonuses is above and beyond. I feel like the weaknesses of the old globing have replay been accounted for with this new release. I would like to beat it tactically but my bank account disagrees haha!
  24. Yeh the big one. It dishes a lot of damage. Being able to teleport a monster killer like this into the backline is really good. Bounders in units of 10 average 5 mortal wounds per charge it's pretty impressive. I'm not singling you out sorry I commented don my phone and hit quote not reply.
