    I think this is a valid concern. Why would any new hobbyist pick up Cities of Sigmar? Not a single new model. This book could very well be just a temporary provision of rules for the grogs until their model lines go the way of the greenskins.

    Agreed. I'd prefer GW stop pandering to old WHFB armies that don't fit the AoS theme, which is essentially everything in CoS. But that will make the grogs upset so we're stuck for now. I think realistically these old model lines will go the way of mini marines in 40k. Slowly phased out over a number of years. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. Let people have new rules for their old models. Eventually GW will just focus on new stuff.

    A totally new model range, same scope as the Deepkin launch. With Everchosen thrown in to soup it up a bit. Current slaves to darkness models are just old whfb. Very boring to look at IMO.

    For the cannon, yeah that's weird, but you can always use it as a "counts as" for a similar type of artillery. High Elves were part of WHFB, AoS is a separate game in a separate universe. Personally I am 10 x more excited by what they might do with the light elf faction from Hysh than seeing them try to keep an ancient model line fresh.

    Pretty sure the standard advice has always been 'don't buy an army that doesn't have a battle tome', not 'buy the models and then hope a battle tome comes out'. I am also a new player but it took me a whole 5 minutes to figure out I should not be buying the old model lines that aren't properly supported.

    To clarify, my gripe is that GW waited this long to squat old models that they did not plan on supporting through the life span of AoS. I've always viewed AoS as a separate game from WHFB and found the presence of many old but unsupported armies to be confusing and messy. This wave of squatting cleans up some but not all of that mess. It should have occurred 3-4 years ago though.

    Agreed. I am astounded by the amount of crying over this. If you want an army that's going to be supported in aos then make sure it has a battle tome - this has always been standard advice. My only gripe is that it has taken gw this long to finally cull these old models.

    They should have done this when AoS was released tbh. Stringing people with legacy armies along for 3-4 years before doing the squatting now is a bit unfair. So much for transparency I guess.

    Who in their right mind buys 90 grimghast reapers? Who in their right mind buys 90 of any one particular model? Have zero sympathy for people who power game like this and then find their net list is no longer top tier. Not saying you're one of these people but I really dislike it when people spam one unit just because it happens to be good at a particular point in time.

    Kharadron as well, right? Plus Witch Elves got turned into Monster Girls: the faction. I guess I just don't see the relevance for High Elves or Dark Elves once we have the Hysh and Ulgu Aelf factions. In my mind those are the AoS versions and will be thematic replacements to redundant 'old world' lines.

    Or maybe they'll be included like a legacy index to the new light and shadow aelf armies? Different ways to do it I suppose. I personally don't like how AoS is still 'stuck' to WHFB with a lot of legacy armies that don't make sense, at least aesthetically, with the new setting. I thought the whole point of AoS was to break away from WHFB and reinvent as much as possible. We see this with how interesting and different the new armies are.

    I just don't see them peddling the same sculpts for Aelves forever. I definitely see them overhauling the Aelves with brand new sculpts with Hysh and Ulgu themes. But the exact same High Elf and Dark Elf stuff? I just don't see it. I don't think that's good for the game long-term either. But hey, if that's literally what's going to happen then it's good news for people who currently own those models.
