  1. @l1censetochill That are some interesting points and I agree with the army building approaches. On top of every, Unit having a role and not seeming "useless," it is also cool that every one of the 4 Subfactions is really decent and has its own appeal. There seems to be no clear "best" to choose as Petrifex before the nerf, etc. While reading your post I was also thinking why the Lumineth appeal to me as they do: You know in Warhammer Fantasy many Factions had Spearmen (Saurus Warriors with Spears, High Elves, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Bretonnia, Empire, ) The point I am trying to make is: Now in this crazy AoS Age the Lumineth are the odd one out in deploying Regiments of these cohesive Soldiers. And it appeals to me A LOT. πŸ˜„ Even if it might be fiddly and unwieldy they nailed it with the Shining Company Rule. I don't even know why I am writing this, perhaps because there was a discussion in another Thread how people disliked it when others were just deploying the absolute minimal Battleline Choices. Others complained about Battleline units being visually uninteresting and bland. So I like all of the Options in AoS (Terrorgheist Battleline yes please!). But I guess I will always remain a staunch defender of the humble Core-Trooper and dare I say it: Lumineth Core Troops are da best!
  2. This is spectacular and completely turns the Model around! Wow!
  3. Speaking of Towers? Count me in! This is from the Old High Elves Book 8th Edition. Would be perfect for a Zaitrec Banner Misery in the Tower Library? Poor Aelf Students... Yeah Zaitrec missing so far in the painting Guide is odd - but then Syar had none in the Book and theirs is the best Video among them - so it evens out I guess? Are any of you actually using the Guide-Videos by GW? I found them quite lacking. They dont show the Model from different angles for example, but maybe thats the standard with their videos. I used some steps from the Tome however and liked them.
  4. We are watching with interest at this heinous threat(d)s and shall be prepared!
  5. @WyliekyoteThe Alarith are the Lumineth who are devoted to the Element of Stone / the Spirits of the Mountains. Overall Aelves / Lumineth who dedicate themselves to one of the Elements are called Aelementiri. They are organized in Temples (one for each Element River, Mountain, Wind, Zenith). These Temples can be found in all the Great Nations. (4 Teclian Nations and 4 Tyrionic Nations) At the Moment we do not know how exactly the Great Nations are governed. However Iliatha is matriarchal and there seem to be several Matriarchs. Zaitrec could be a Magocracy. The Tyrionic Nations are described as militarized in several Warhammer Community Articles - someone called them "Aelf-Prussia" The Term Vanari is used to describe the regular Army of the Lumineth: Your Spear-Aelves, Bow-Aelves, Riders, etc. (in the Battletome they are much more diverse with Chariots, Scouts, etc.) The Vanari are a Militia Force - sadly this is only a one liner in the Battletome as far as I know. It is however stated that the Lumineth would like to stay away from war - but now they feel that their Hand has been forced. They want to defend the Realms and most overall Hysh. We do not know much about the Cathallars - they seem to be a sort of Priesthood maybe? (It is theirJob to lessen the emotional burden of the Lumineth and to trap negative Emotion in Aetherquarz, which they then discard.) My personal wishful Theory is that the Cathallars have some connection to the Goddess Lileath from Warhammer Fantasy - the goblet, the mourning, etc. It just fits - hopefully we wil find out in our 2nd Battletome in 3 Years. πŸ˜…πŸ˜
  6. Capybaras are so cute! From the Battletome we have the snippet of Wind-Temple Warriors riding "long legged Beasts" and obviously the Cloud Riding Mages. Would you also say that maybe the Wind-Temple Warriors could be riding some kind of Fox-Creatures? For River, I hope we get some clue when the Underworld Warband is revealed! It is so nice that the woman(?) there harkens back to the Swordmaster Design - even the way she grips the Sword seems reminiscent. As for the Aspects: We know from the partly revealed Warhammer Underworlds Card that River is about Speed etc. So could it maybe look as follws: Mountain = Endurance / patience and hard hitting [I really like the ability of our Mountain Spirit that they get +1 Attack when they havent charged, its so thematic] River =Speed / Manoeuvrability Air = ranged Combat / also Speed (??) Zenith = Insight / Enlightment / very much magic focused (??) / a "perfect" blend between Tyrionic and Teclian abilities = "true enlightenment" 😁 The main thing that puzzles me is, if both River and Air will be very much connected with speed or if they will divide this up more strictly.
  7. Interesting observation with the Unit Names, I thought about the aspect that some of it has to do with Names that were introduced in Warhammer Fantasy. I have never played Warhammer Fantasy, however from the limited knowledge I have there were some interesting gender-related aspects mainly in the Elf-Factions. Before the newer Sculpts for the Dark-Elf Units came around (the now Darkling Covens and others) there were female Soldiers among the ranks of the Repeater-Crossbows, Spearmen and Swordsmen. (no pun inteneded lol) Correct me if I am wrong - I am just basing this assumption on some artwork from around 6th (?) edition. There are some Druchi Spear-Elves and there is one woman among them with egregious boobplate. I just find it interesting that both in the Wood-Elves and Dark-Elves factions you have women in their military all over the place whereas in the High Elves Military you have a specific Sisterhood and thats about it. Let's compare: for the Wood Elves I can speak from experience cause I collected "Wanderers" in AoS Wood Elves: There are women (often 50% of the Models) Glade Guard /Wood Elf Warriors, Glade Riders, Wardancers, Eternal Guard, Wildwood Rangers (surely I forgot some Models) Dark Elves: Here I don't know anything for sure - but it would be interesting if somebody could dig up their old Models
  8. Aesthetic-wise I am Elf-biased: So Sisters of the Watch! I must admit that I own a lot of them. Just all these flaming Bows amassed look really cool and very in line with the more over the top aesthetics of Age of Sigmar. The Freeguild Guard and their Musket wielding and Crossbow wielding Counterparts are also really nice. Even the old Models hold up quite well. There is just somethng about the humble Human Soldier that is very atmospheric. When the normal Humans would get newer sculpts they would be among my favorite Armies!
  9. @Aelfric and @LuminethMage Thanks for your answers. I like the Uniformity too, infact itis one of the reasons why I like this Army so much - it looks like a disciplined Army. That aside, I was justbothered by the marketing and I agree, some examples by GW about customization options would be great. I will try a few Headswaps on Unit Leaders or the Dawnrider Banner-Bearer. But all of them wearing Helmets is also cool in reinforcing that cohesive Army Theme. Edit: @Enoby regarding the Cow-Mountains: Maybe Lore reasons could come into play when choosing a generic Avatar? As far as I understood it, the Lumineth fashion the War-Constructs with the Cow masks themselves and persuade the Spirit to reside within the construct to then fight alongside the Aelves. Whereas Avalenor is pretty much independant and was just always here, at least the Warhammer Community Article about him didn't go into any Detail I think. So when using a generic Avatar you could customize it a bit giving it the flavour of a certain Stone-Temple.
  10. I feel this is the first Army were the advertising has been so flat out wrong and misleading on so many levels. Often I see comments by people who are interested and excited by the "interchangeability / customizeability" of the Army and they are just being deceived.... . I know it has been discussed, but phrases like this annoy me quite a bit. You know, when compared to Eternal Guard or other Dual Kits its just a Joke. Maybe it would be quite iteresting to discuss this changing trend od modeling in another Thread. It is intriguing how GW seems to shift away from Dual-Kits. People are often expecting them to be developed (remember how we all rooted for the possible Dual Kits for the Pointy Aelves?) But this "trend" to steer away from Dual Kits is not so easily layed out - aren't a few new Daughters of Khaine Models Dual-Kits? Or Tree- and Spite-Revenants? Kurnoth Hunters? So yes I get it, it is not all doom and gloom. Sorry my annoyance got the better of me.
  11. Just yesterday I thought about that GW could have designed the Wardens in a marching Formation with the Pikes way more up in the air, dynamism in the cloth when walking, etc. When I played warcry it wasn't also much of an issue either. However I am still a bit afraid of a first proper AoS Game and some not so gentle pile ins.
  12. @ThalmorRepresentative I like your bases, they feel very dynamic and dare I say "alive" hehe
  13. Hehe Thanks 😁 I like having different (and hopefully individualised) Unit Champions - one who is destined to lead the bigger Squad the other one is leading the smaller one. Because of the fact that I always treasured my pretty Unit Champions I enjoy it so much that they are so vital in a Lumineth Army. πŸ₯° This conversion is NOT MINE (!) I found it on Instagram and got inspired to build a unique High Warden with this Head. The Instagram Account is @thewanderingprince and the Head is from the Wood Elf Blood Bowl Team.
  14. What do you most looking forward to, @Tiberius501? My Plan for a roughly 1500 points force is this: Nation: Zaitrec HEROES: Scinari Cathallar (General), Trait: Fast Learner, Artefact: Gift of Celennar, Scinari Cathallar, Silver Wand UNITS: 20 Vanari Auralan Wardens 10 Vanari Auralan Wardens 20 Vanari Auralan Sentinels 10 Vanari Auralan Sentinels 5 Vanari Dawnriders 5 Vanari Dawnriders Battalion: Auralan Legion Endles Spell: Hyshian Twinstones 1470 Points, 90 Wounds, 4 Drops The main Idea was that I wanted the same Number of Sentinels and Wardens. At the moment I am very tempted to even go with one Unit of 10 and one Unit of 5 Dawnriders - so that all Units have this distribution of a smaller and a bigger Unit Size each. However this is only the long-term plan. πŸ˜† First there is a Box of Sentinels, the Endless Spells and a Cathallar on the Menu. At the moment I have more than enough to paint. The Sentinels alone kept my Hype for so long. They are magnificent.
  15. GW really shot themselves in the foot with the shared sprues (!)in the Island of Blood Box. Otherwise we would have had a few newer sculpts for Skaven. So I guess while many new Models like the Engineers, the new Rat Ogres or the Packmaster were undeniably conceived - the Resources delegated to their Design feel somehow "wasted". It was all a short term Strategy to make as much out of the Box, but what do I know? Also it hasn't been that long since the Skaven Battletome- I guess new Skaven-Inspired content is not too far around the corner. Skaven are pretty important in the Grand Scheme of AoS Lore afterall.
  16. Yesterday evening while painting I almost snapped one myself when I wanted to paint at a different angle and my Hand touched the spear accidentally. So don't paint when you are already tired and dizzy! πŸ˜„ Thanks @Nubgan I think I will refrain from trying to fix the bent spears, sad to hear that apparently many others had even more damage on them. Some good news: I have returned to the Zaitrec fold. Just liked the Idea that the Wardens could display their affiliation to Zaitrec through the Plumes and to some extent the Armour, while having an individual Robe. The Magenta parts could be a bit brighter but I am still undecided hehe.
  17. I have a small question and I do not know if anyone else has had this problem: 2 of the Warden Spears are slightly bent - one came already bent on the Sprue and I noticed the other one when I had glued the Spear to the Warden already. So, would you prepare slightly hot or lukewarm water and try to gradually and carefully bend the Spear back to a straight shape? The 2 Spearshafts are both attached to their respective models already (because I was dumb and too eager and wanted to glue them all together) but they are not primed yet. I am sure that I have not bent them myself because I have been very careful with the Models.
  18. What the Hell are those "dice"? I feel like they should have come out at April the 1st.
  19. Thanks a lot! Don't mind long explanations - they happen far to little and I always appreciate them. πŸ˜ƒ I am trying to go pretty retro/vintage with green Grass and Grass Tufts and a little dirt or flowers. But I am a little scared that the flowers will be too colourful and detract attention from the Model. But who knows? I'll have to experiment. The Moonstone is a very cool idea for Zaitrec
  20. Very nice, @LuminethMage ! What are your plans for basing?
  21. A Dungeon Crawler with Mega Gargants crawling through? πŸ™ƒ
  22. Just wanted to share that I am really happy with my first WardenπŸ₯° I am not a spectacular painter by any means and the Model still needs an improvement here and there. I got by with the Colours I already had at home as currently I dont want to buy any new ones. But @Athrawes tipped me over the edge with the Red Runes. ^^ As you can see I am a fan of the Classic High Elf Scheme hehe. At first I tried out the Zaitrec Colours, but what can you do when you just love blue? Tried to give the Zaitrec Scheme a blue twist but then this combination came to be in the end. Bases: I really like the flower bases so many people use for the LRL. Green grass would be a nice contrast to the blues and reds I think. Lore: Meandering away from the Subfactions I came up with this on a whim: These Lumineth are an Auralan Legion who stood Guard in Uhl-Ghysh as part of the Lumineth Garrisons watching over Slaanesh. When Archaon and his Armies attacked a substantial amount of this Legion survived. Lumineth from both the Teclian and Tyrionic Nations serve in the Legion and it has gained some prominence and respect among Vanari Generals back home. However it has since been redeployed to Hysh bolstering it's ranks and perhaps regain some sanity. I will also work on a Standard-Bearer Hero with the Anvil of Apotheosis, because i just love the Concept of Standardbearers since I came into contect with Warhammer. And I just want to have an Elf carrying the Legion's Battle Standard with its thematic Rune and all. Red Runes seemed nice to symbolize spilled blood of fellow Vanari (how original! πŸ˜… ) while also serving as a warmer colour.
  23. When I started to play with my 2 buddies we would always remind each other about what our Armies can do and what kind of abilities our Units and Heroes have. It kinda grew from there and I have done the same thing as @Athrawes does. It just is a sign of good form and courtesy in my opinion. When I played against other people than my 2 friends, they also introduced me to the abilities of their armies. So in the end I was lucky to have encountered mostly chill and pleasent people for whom it is just a normal thing to help each other out. I'll also give advice to my "opponent" or remind them of their own rules from time to time some of my acequaintances are not as invested as myself into the Hobby. There is just one guy in our community who can perhaps be descried as the typical "That Guy" experience, things he did were: -asking me to search his artefacts and command traits in his book and pick them because he didn't bother to look them up before -pretending to have forgotten about certain key rules of the game (priority role, drop count when deploying, etc.) and generaly feign ignorance when being called out -trying to rush his play in the movement phase as to squeeze in Units that otherwise would not have been able to charge, but gods beware when I move my models incorrectly by the fraction of 1". .... -having a pushy attitude and trying to make "his" made up rules to be seen as the legitimate rules - again when being corrected on core-component rules that make the game work, he whines and continues to play with a grumpy attitude -Work in typical gotcha moments to win at all costs Sorry for the rant - I guess I just wanted to point out that the experience can be ambivalent and that "That Guy" I described above, is really just 1 Person in 10.
  24. They look so crisp and clean! I love they way you have have used the blue-violet colour. I got inspired by your crest on the Feathers and did something similar with my Wardens. Yeah to assemble the riders was difficult. I also dislike that the Steedmaster essentially has 2 Swords, but I did not dare to remove the Sword in the scabbard, which is attached to the leg of the rider. Was anybody else bothered by this?
  25. I completley agree with @Kramer about the notion that people who are more narratively inclined may not feel the need to discuss on a forum when they have their group already established at home etc. Please let yourself not be dragged down by a few negative comments. This Forum is really a treat on the Internet for its civility and for the most part mature people. Concerning the visibility: I tend to follow a few threads in the Painting and Modelling section and I am greatly enjoying the content there. It is very enriching and people sometimes post stories about their armies and weave their own Lore into their paint schemes, etc. Also there is the Lore and Novels Thread which I visit from time to time. But yeah I get your point @Grim Beasties when you feel like Narrative Play is underrepresented. However as Kramer said, it is also more difficult to talk about on the Internet. By providing the thread-examples I did not want to sound overly defensive - I just wanted to provide my perspective. Because I think this Forum is one of the most welcoming Places for discussing AoS and my experience here has been, that players tend to be very open minded. It is just also a matter of real life vs hobby time, at least for me. If I had a less busy shedule at University and more money I would build custom Terrain, organize a campaign with my friends, write Battle Reports about them and post Photos here on the Forum. I would write more Short Stories about AoS or convert more Models, etc. So while the passion is there it also "demands" certain things to be set in place first. Anyway I hope this does not sound pretentious or anything. There was also a discussion many months ago to establish a special thread/topic for Short Stories written by the Community here. I don't know if this has become a reality though
