  1. Working through in no particular order as got lots of responses while afk... @Durgin Ive picked up a few Gunpla kits over the years for spare parts and never been particularly impressed, they didnt bare much resemblance to the stuff described above though so im guessing i got lower end stuff? They arent very common in the UK (At least the stores ive had access to) though so there isnt much to compare to. I do think its a different kind of thing though, amazing articulation isnt really much of an asset to a wargaming piece thats likely glued down and based, im assuming Gunpla just got really damn good at making mechas but hasnt really strayed far from making mechas? @zilberfrid Wargames Atlantic produce solid work but its mass grunts, solid work is all its ever going to be though its a niche they are dominating (And something i wish Mantic had stuck with) i dont think they are going to be making anything bigger than a horse/ogre any time soon, they just dont have that "wow" factor to put them over. I do really want the Afgan horsemen ive been waiting seemingly forever for though! @Greybeard86Yes, 20-30 years ago GW was producing worse minis, i dont think anyone is disputing that? Mine and my group have absolutely no problem using other figures and im sure we arent particularly atypical in that, couple of 3d printers and plenty of awareness of other brands to grab models from. Im not really aware of someone making something like Nagash though? @EccentricCircleim not sure i agree on most of your points tbh, sure some of the computer designed sprues can be difficult to conceive but that also means you can make some absolutely jaw dropping stuff out of them. Those Frostgrave wizards for example could have stepped straight out the 80's (And GW still makes an essentially equivalent kit afaik?) but i dont think any of us could have expected something like the Nighthaunt range to be possible back then, you seem to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater, sure some kits are a bit more of a pain but the final results are usually well worth it. Exactly as tricky to kit bash in most cases too, i literally have a half dozen converted Primaris in front of me as i type and chopped and reposed a Lord Executioner chap last week to avoid having a double when i was building my big box of nighthaunt and there are Sister of Silence (A notoriously inflexible kit) outisde weapon options) conversions and reposes scattered all over my work in progress mound I am primarily a modeller though, so perhaps we are looking at the U from different directions? Overall, GW is a luxury product by any sensible definition, you dont actually need them to live, and they are certainly expensive but gaslighting that they dont make models (typically big centrepieces) just on another level in many cases is kinda disingenuous. I was being genuine in my initial question btw, i would like a good cheaper alternative
  2. Could anyone show some model sprues that match gw then? Love em or hate em they are technically waaaay ahead of their competitors.
  3. The IKEA ones are good, detolf I think? You can get extra shelves on ebay to double the capacity and fit a fair bit inside.
  4. Our group has been playing a 600pt ptg campaign and its been pretty fun, horribly balanced in places but still fun!
  5. I love skirmish games (Though Frostgrave sadly never got its hooks into most of my group) but its a false equivalency, like saying "I know you wanted a car but this push bike is just as good" its just not quite the same thing. If you want to encourage newbies, run a slow grow campaign or just match their collection rather than ignoring them until they have 2000pts. Our group right now is doing exactly that and its great fun. The first 600pts is particularly easy whilst the Start collecting sets endure OFC GW is also removing those Believe me, as someone with an absolutely minimal disposable income i probably wouldnt be so blase if i didnt have a considerable stash from better days but is absolutely dooable still, especially if you arent insistent on buying direct from GW.
  6. They had previously announced they wrote 8th ed army books for the new factions and provided them to the computer game people to build them.
  7. The next issue box says Harlequins for Kill team
  8. I think a lot of us have been burned by the absolute false economy of a lot of smaller games, dropping a hundred or two on rules and models that will sit around gathering dust until i give them to my nephews to bash around or sell them on ebay for pennies on the pound just to get rid of them is something ive had happen a dozen times or more. Meanwhile ive been playing AoS recently with an army ive been buying stuff for for over 20 years and i can still go back and use, all of the competition from that era is dust and wasted money. Historicals are different, but then historical gaming really is a slightly different hobby anyway.
  9. Huh, went to check GW and they currently arent selling any products apparently!
  10. Costs go up, prices go up. I mean it sucks but its the way things currently work in the world *cough* This one is feeling a lot reasonable than most GW price hikes at least, mostly 10% in the face of the much larger cost rises? GW IS eating some of those losses for us. Blood Bowl teams have been very reasonable for a long while, i guess this is just bringing them in line with more typical prices. Personally now i have to chose between getting the Skaven Endless spells i kinda need or the Snotling BB team ive wanted for ages but never been able to fully justify, cant get both!
  11. Endless spells already direct only on at least on Dark sphere
  12. I dont know Khorne too well these days but our Khorne player was bemoaning not bringing minis to summon if that helps
  13. I dunno, their attempts at wild originality have fallen pretty flat so far in AoS, the better results have come from working with the old briefs in original ways. They could do amazing things with the Eshin or Skyre briefs and modern tech that i couldnt replicate as easily as 3d printing a rat daemon head and putting it on the existing daemon ranges. FEC i think could do with some horrific mutant cavalry tbh, really lean into the delusional knights thing.
  14. Id probably assume someone willing to spend all that time and money on a racist feeling joke probably wasnt someone worth talking to tbh.
  15. All we can draw from Tome Celestial is the army wont get a book in the next 3-6 months. Its a good thing rather than the awful imbalances 40k is dealing with right now but the release schedule is mayhem right now and gets vaguer as things get further out, they might already have a handful of Tome + Hero releases done and ready to go pretty much just waiting for a fit in the production schedule, or if a more involved revamp gets stuck in the Suez canal, stolen by Covid empowered monkeys or whatever
  16. Its apparently traditional to launch Partworks in the UK around August so id expect the full release then and rolling out from that point.
  17. I mean the obvious answer is, Grungi makes overtones, some Kharadon are interested. Its pretty much the logical way for things to work, i mean (trying not to get political) people have often been suckered in by much less compelling causes than a literal god, with much less sense/effort than GW would probably put into it. Then bam, you have some KO/FS/D as we know them now and some following the soup faction/ideology, just like the Ynarri or Kragnos. The obvious angle is to appeal to the Old ways and lost knowledge. Dwarves in particular tend to be suckers for that, even if that in practise means combining them with the Kharadon science/gear.
  18. I suspect people got all excited by all the dwarf build up in WD only for a damp squib finish in BR and that just being a reason for new Sigmarines revamp Dont get me wrong it finally makes them look good but its not a big dwarf revamp is it
  19. Its not really your fault, this thread is unmanageable at the best of times, but it is starting to feel like groundhog day for that particular wishful thinking
  20. *Looks at various rapid re-release elf books* We can lay soup to rest for a year. Maybe
  21. I suspect the FS didnt get a new cover because GW knows their players fear variety
  22. Shame about the FS but i have high hopes about the Chaos book being Skaven, about the only Chaos faction known for mischief
  23. Wishing for luck definitely helped me at least, went 2/2 major victories against StD and Lumis. Definitely won the first game due to killing his Chaos Lord with the Three Fangs (Though then i felt a bit bad) and burying the rest in rusty cutlery. Chaos Warriors are waaaaaay less scary than they used to be! Lumineth was against am much newer player, had a deathmaster ambush her lancers, whilst everything threw rocks at the archers whilst refusing to play with her spearmen who were a bit out of position. Definitely had luck on my side though! Got enough rats in my Warband to actually field a Verminlord in the next game too Just a shame this day got cut a bit short, we were planning 3 or 4 games but too many folks got a case of the Sundays
  24. Pics broke but my doomed Eshin forces are off to a Path to glory day tomorrow and i really should be sleeping, wishing me luck
  25. What i would like to see is Malerions lot seconding a few units to DoK before their full release, cheekily giving them a slightly bigger release because they are shaky allies rather than one army, would be a big shame to cripple Morathis arc by putting her under her sons wing again, especially as the Alarielle the only other femme presenting god is so dependant on Sigmar right now. I mean ideally id quite like for her to pull a Nagash and form her own Grand alliance so Order isnt twice the size of the others but thats less plausible
