Awesome conversions - I never thought I'd see those old plastic boar heads look good!

Cool! I too enjoy flaming anvils on chains.
Is the basing style meant to match a particular surface?
Following your blog by the way
Thanks very much! The basing style originated from the Gor and Skin Wolves that I first painted: rocky terrain with some snow on it (so it can show up the blood spatters). I started off using a mix of PVA/Baking Power for snow, but have switched to Valhallan Blizzard (which is a bit lumpier, but a real time-saver).
Now I'm adding more Chaos, I want to keep it all consistent, but I imagined the warband as roaming the wilderness of Ghur.

Nice idea!
Thanks - we had a third player standing by to take command of any accidentally-summed daemons, and he was eagerly waiting on the sidelines (and preparing to summon even more daemons!)

True. Warhammer armies are never completed, only abandoned.
Still, nice to have a proper stampede in the army. And I'll admit, they look better on round bases, rather than a neat regimental block.

I don't see any pictures, mate.
Ah - that would make this blog post a *bit* less interesting.
Thanks for the heads-up - I've reloaded the images, and they should display now.

Cheers - one of the things I'm liking about slapping together mutated creatures is that there's a very broad margin of error!

Fantastic army (and take it from a slow painter: six months does not sound like a long time!)
Glad you're back into the hobby.

One of the things I like about the cockatrice is how they always get painted in really bright colour schemes. Seems to be something about them makes people go all technicolour.
It's that lovely plumage - you can't help but paint it bright.
"Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue. Beautiful plumage!"

Great start. I love the Maw-krusha sculpt - crouching low and looking enormous - a nice chance from the recent batch of 'leaping in the air' winged beasts and characters.

Great old models - should make a cracking warband.

Thanks! Yeah, a Death Guard with bone armour would look cool (although I've not made the jump to 40K yet).
