  1. In the lead up to 3rd edition I was really convinced we would see new dwarves fairly early and get the Cities factions partitioned into other armies (dwarves spun off/souped, wanderers reintegrated to Sylvaneth, dark elves going to Malerion or DoK...). Since none of that has happened my current belief is that Cities will more or less stay as it is and its subfactions will get updates in waves, starting with Freeguild and Ironweld.
  2. Would be nice if they decide to do a bundle of all the required minis at a discount.
  3. Belated happy Broddsday, @KingBrodd! One of the reasons why I logged into this website today was definitely to absorb some proxy-hype from you. My personal favourite headcanon is tragic Ogors, where they are actually as smart, creative and sensitive as humans, but because of their crippling hunger they are unable to build civilization.
  4. The white definitely looks quite good, too. I suspect it is because the bone provides a point of reference for contrast. I have also been working on OBR with the aim to use mainly fast techniques/contrast paint. I found that a glossy colour shift effect paint over a quick contrast base coat produces good, fast results: OBR/Mortek are really good for speed painting in general. The only part of them that takes significant time for me is the armour trim, which is kind of more fiddly than it needs to be.
  5. That's a nice colour scheme. Are you using a contrast paint for the armour?
  6. Personally, since I know three more boxes are coming, I am holding out for one that I really like. There is a chance we will see a Vampires vs Cities box, and since I play both those armies I don't see a reason to jump in right now with double chaos again and warbands I don't find super exciting. With the rules now being free I definitely plan to ge into Warcry soon and will just play games with stuff I already own for now.
  7. Personally, I think Cado's strenght is as an independent operator rather than a combo piece. The threat of high quality damage or high mobility he brings without requiring further support is why I would bring him. But he is not really a team player. He can't take artefacts or command traits, doesn't take or give out buffs especially well and has no super high value spells. He doesn't even get subfaction bonuses, so he's not exactly better in any particular one of them. I would say use him as a one-man-show rather than a build-around.
  8. That's a Cogfort: They have been part of the lore for a while. They have stats in Soulbound and recently featured in an episode of Hammer and Bolter. I think chances are pretty good we will see them on the tabletop after the Cities update.
  9. Personally I have always been pretty comfortable with the idea of Cities vs Cities infighting. Just because I figure the Cities of Sigmar are the closest thing in the Mortal Realms to the countries and city states of earth. So they can fight each other for all the reasons people have historically gone to war with each other in the real world.
  10. If we go by the narrative, the Dawnbringer Crusades are a campaign in which settlers from the Cities of Sigmar go out to found new cities, reclaim wilderness and spread civilization. We know that at least Kharadron Overlords, but most likely all the Order factions, are assisting them in this endeavour. In game terms, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to be anything mechanically concrete. They can just be narrative backdrop for the current edition.
  11. The Witch Hunters seem good. Very tanky with nice damage output. Definitely casually playable, but their low move will probably make it hard to actually hunt down any wizards with them. But what I like most is how auspicious their new attack profiles look. Compare that 3 attacks, 3+/3+/-1/1 repeater pistol with the awful current d3 attacks, 5+/3+/-1/1 repeater handgun on the Outriders warscroll. Going from d3 to 3 attacks alone is huge for consistency. I also highly suspect that anything with a cannon will get a very different attack profile after the next pass, given those crossbow stats.
  12. In my opinion, the only reason GW is even in a position to put ressources into The Old World right now is because they took such drastic action with the release of AoS. Near the end of Warhammer Fantasy, I think it was pretty clear that things were not working. The barrier of entry had become too high and whatever enthusiasm the player base had did not translate into model sales or new players. Given this state of the game, some kind of drastic action was definitely necessary to keep the Fantasy universe alive. GW, at the time, decided on a big, decisive cut: Kill off the old setting and fundamentally rework the mechanics. Of course, the launch of AoS was also semi-bungled, but the game did manage to build its own dedicated player base over time out of both new and returning players. And personally I think decisively killing off Warhammer Fantasy was an important factor in this. It made it so that, for both new and old players, if they wanted to play the newest edition of the game, they had to play AoS. It is only because of this clear break that we can now look at bringing the old world back. The setting still has its charm and I think a separate rank and flank game can coexist with AoS. But only because the AoS community has become self-sustaining at this point. Maybe we could have got here without destroying the Old World. Maybe really committing ressources to Warhammer Fantasy, both in terms of marketing and codex/model updates, could have been enough. But in that world, I am pretty sure GW would not be in a positions to successfully launch AoS as a new spin-off right now the way they are trying to launch TOW.
  13. Giant codpieces are mandatory in the Freeguild. Especially for women. Also, in the spirit of brotherhood, all Idoneth will receive giant pieces of cod.
  14. Perhaps even a picture of a comet with an S on it. Although enough time might have passed for them to show us a Freeguild Handgunner or something. The new art of that Greywater gunner makes me hopeful. It's a cool look that is recognizably derived from the old empire aesthetic while still being a new thing. If the new Freeguild ends up with a modernized appearance while keeping some iconic design cues such as puffy sleeves, huge hats, ridiculous mustaches and giant codpieces, I will be happy.
  15. Squats really are shaping up to be Space Kharadron, aren't they? So far nearly all units seem directly convertable for AoS with minimal effort.
  16. No Warcry then, huh? I suppose the Khorne Underworlds guys and Tzeenzch/Lumineth tomes are guaranteed. Let's hope for some Destruction news or a Dawnbringer Crusades update as well. Or a new Season of War.
  17. The original announcement of TOW was certaily at a very early stage. The whole pandemic situation will certainly not have helped them hit their initial targets, either. I kind of wonder if announcing TOW as early as they did was really a good strategy. Even though it's probably not true, it might feel to casual observers like no progress is being made. I have also observed TOW taking away some interest from AoS. "Should I rebase my Fantasy army to rounds with TOW coming soon?" , "I was planning to ge into AoS, should I wait for TOW instead?" or on the more extreme end " AoS will be dead from lack of players/get discontinued in 3 years when TOW comes out. " are all questions/sentiments I have seen online since TOW was announced.
  18. I can't wait until they redo the Steam Tank and I don't have to roll separately for the cannon, steam gun, wheels, hull-mounted rifle, commander's pistol and birb rod anymore. Which all do no damage.
  19. Yes, I am actually super happy with that. I think it is a massive step towards lowering barrier of entry for all games in the AoS family. Getting even 1000 points ready for AoS is daunting, but I think most people can manage a 10 man warcry warband. I just recently got the Sepulchral Guard when GW announced their range rotation plans. I painted them up for fun, thinking I would probably not get to use them in either AoS proper or Underworld. But now I really have a desire to just build them up into a Deathrattle warband for warcry. The free rules make me want to pick up the new Wight King and figure out a way to convert up some cool Grave Guard. And if I enjoy the game I am sure I will eventually be tempted by one of their box sets, if one comes out where I like both the terrain and at least one of thr warbands.
  20. Ah well, it's not like Pinions bad on him, and he does already have a damage spell on his warscroll anyway. The warscroll is definitely pretty good. But I wonder if "small beatstick hero" is actually a thing more competitve lists want in Gravelords.
  21. 3+/3+ is about a 50% chance to get an attack through, which means Flaming Weapon will add around 2.5 mortals with The Fallen. Seems decent enough to try. At 2+/2+ it should be around 3.5 mortals extra.
  22. I like this guy as a harbinger for our possible 3rd edition tome. Between this guy and Deintalos the Exile, the Hunger rework is good trend. Let's hope they make the other unique vampire characters like Kritza and Annika as good as this guy next time around. EDIT: That 20" flying move with The Steed and Amethystine Pinions sounds pretty cool. For a melee beatstick this guy is looking really good. Might throw him into lists where I have points to spare.
