    Slann The Man

This is about as realistic as it gets without nerfing your list too hard. Slann general + Kroak + Astrolith is a very real Starborne list tbh. Getting 8 CCP average per turn doesnt sound too shabby.
  2. It is really difficult to say without anything concrete like what kind of lists you are running and what precise list he is. Mentioning a specific faction is kind of irrelevant, since any "OP army" can be terrible if you field the bad units. Experience is also quite important, since if all you do is max move everything forward into a giant clusterfuck of a battle, whoever has the strongest straightup melee units will win. Seraphon warscrolls are terrible on their own, and they really rely on being buffed by various heroes. So if you manage to pick off the heroes, you should be able to roll over the remaining force. In the old book it was all about the Slann - Kill him and you won - But these days he isnt the most important hero to worry about. Seraphon is also a rather "honest" army. There is no double pile in, no fight last or fight first, no double movement with fly, no crazy low saves (except the Bastiladon, which can very easily be countered by doing 3 MWs to it) with rerolls etc. Everything behaves as you would "expect".
  3. Pretty much this. It is awesome when you are learning a new army from the ground up. I like the cards that @Hanskrampf have made for pretty much every army too once you start to get the hang of your army. Especially stuff like spells.
  4. Nice one! Gotrek is actually kind of interesting in Seraphon. The Bat rep gave me some ideas for Starborne where the playstyle might be a little slower. 😁
  5. Yeah he is no doubt strong and worthwhile to bring, but to be +4 you also need a Slann. Before you know it you have almost dedicated 1/3 (if not more) of your 2k army to make him a powerhouse. Doesnt seem too absurd in my eyes. Looking forward to your next article!
  6. Yeah thats my point. He isnt just 320 as is. He is strong, sure, but he also makes up a big part of your army. I would rather have seen strong traits/artefacts to make the Slann a better contender. Normally taking a named character is a big sacrifice due to loss of trait/artefact, but in our case it is kinda whatever.
  7. At first bound Endless spells was a really cool concept, but I actually feel it is a somewhat lazy and bad design that create a negative player experience on the table. I want more motivators for giving away the double turn, not fewer. With Tzeentch horror spam you at least get to throw dice. Would you honestly pay 420 (100 pts increase) for Lord Kroak? With so many points invested in 1 character, he needs to do some serious work to be worth the points (think Maw Krusha, Terrorgeist etc). Thats without calculating in extra points from Balewind, Guards (surely you would want that at 420) and maybe Astrolith.
  8. I mean it really depends on what models you have in your collection. But you need to decide if you want to focus on Skinks, Saurus or monstermash, and then pick corresponding heroes to buff them. Edit: Right it was for TTS, so I guess you have every model available. I really have no experience with TTS, so not sure how alike it is to the real deal on the table, like if it is easier to navigate melee blobs than ranged shooting + screening + spells.
  9. Seraphon got terrible base warscrolls and rely on being modified by command abilities/buffs. These are largely divided into Skinks and Saurus, with a few being general Seraphon units. The only units that work with zero buffs are really just Kroxigors and Salamanders. Terradons is a suicidal unit that at requires the Chief to be great, but once they drop their bombs they are worthless. They also have no survivability. Keep in mind you can only cast 1 Endless spell per Wizard per turn, and you only have the Slann. Once your Salamanders die, you have nothing in the army that can bite back and you will be rolled over.
  10. In a mirror match, can my opponent use my Gnawholes to transport a unit? If so, why? I would assume the warscroll refers to me since it is my terrain, so when it says "you"/"your" it is refering to me, not to whoevers turn it is. I was unable to find any FAQ/errata on this.
  11. I managed to snatch a set from my local (still partly open) - Plently of stuff for my 10 bases I needed. It looks awesome! Im sad the gate thing for the ground cant fit on a 50mm base. Would look cool if you placed hands coming out of it on the ground, as if slaves are trapped beneath the ground and they are reaching for freedom as the Terradons fly above it. Could easily cut the big pillars and have them look like fallen/broken pillars. I might also cut off the bomb on my Terradon Chief and have him sit ontop of a single pillar. Thanks a lot man.
  12. @Bryan I Guess My thoughts when I read the list. 1. What is the purpose of the Engine of the Gods? The heal sounds great on paper, until you realize most stuff will kill your things in one round of combat if they truly want to. I get the idea of healing the Bastiladon up every turn, but most armies got ways of dealing MWs to it, especially the current meta armies. I personally dont see the value in the Engine of the Gods from a competitive standpoint. 2. 40 Skinks is so much stronger than 30 - They get double shots/attacks over 15, plus it means additional wounds have to be suffered before they "bracket" (below 15 models). It makes for a much stronger unit to buff up with the Starpriest + Priest. I know you want more screens, but I think it is the wrong place to cut value wise. 3. The Bastiladon is too many points outside of Thunderquake considering what it brings imo. If you want a roadblock, you might as well get more endless spells like the Purple Sun/Gnashing Jaws (they both have high casting value = harder to dispell, and huge foot prints). 4. Kroak is so much better than the Slann. 60 pts is nothing compared to the extra spell cast, access to his warscroll spell and extra CP generation. 5. I dont think the big dinos in general are that viable - Few bodies, low output. I think you should consider what you want your list to do. Seraphon is very dependant on synergies and buffs, which you have to double down on. The warscrolls on their own are kinda ****** to be blunt. Your list seems all over the place - Many bound spells yet few casters, loads of Skinks which seem to suggest Fangs of Sotek, yet a monstermash of EotG + Stegadon + Bastiladon which kinda want to be Thunderlizard.
  13. @MKsmash I would switch the artefact for Ethereal Amulet and reconsider the mount trait. Weird 'Un is really powerful vs spells/debuffs. Otherwise it looks solid.
  14. I actually like these alot! Some pieces might be a bit too big on a 50mm base, but with a bit of cutting you could make two parts for 2 bases for sure.
  15. Im currently working on my Terradon Riders and I absolutely hate the transparent flying stems from GW. Im also super scared of it snapping even though the models are made of resin. So Im looking for some stuff to put on the base instead and then pit the model to it. They are on 50mm round bases, so it is kinda limited to how much space I have got to work with. I havent had a whole lot of luck yet finding something at a reasonable price. Anyone got any ideas? I have thought of resin tree stumps like these - Maybe cover/paint them with some moss etc.: I would love some kind of Aztec pillars/ruins like these:
  16. Honestly the white dwarf batallions are such a hit or miss. I was so excited about the release of 3 batallions for Ironjawz, thought maybe it would introduce a new way of building the army - Nope, they were all pretty balls. On the flip side they still managed to create the Slaanesh one which was/is crazy good.
  17. You shouldnt have any issues using the Flesh Hounds as Salamanders/Razordons with a bit of conversion/kitbashing in an event. As long as it is somewhat obvious what model it is, it is generally fine. Many people have used Flesh Hounds and changed their backs + used a Cold One head from the Saurus Knight unit. Google is your friend.
  18. I personally dont think this is a good design - Duplicating the batallions. I find it somewhat lazy, boring and it actually limits design space imo. I would much rather have had 4 entirely different batallions focusing on different units, which you could pick regardless of subfaction/constellations. The issue with the current version is also that you might want X bonus from Y batallion, but oh wait, you are playing the wrong subfaction/constellation, so you are getting a different, likely less interesting bonus. Right now I feel like Seraphon is really missing a batallion for just Skinks or one for heroes like Slann/Kroak + Priest guys. Shadowstrike is OK, but it shouldnt force you into either Terradons/Rippers. What if I want Kroxigors or Razordons/Salamanders? It is literally impossible to make a solid but low drop army with primarily Skinks, without being forced into one route or feel that your list is severely gutted, which seems like such an odd design when they just released Changehost that is pretty boy "pick whatever the hell you want". I realize older tomes have it as bad if not worse, but I dont think we should look backwards and based things on that, rather improve. I dont want every army to be a no-brainder 1 drop list, but it seems odd some armies are just "yep you wont ever get to decide who goes first, enjoy your 10+ drops". Apologize for going a bit off-topic here. But yeah in general Im really happy about subfactions and having a forced artefact. Seraphon takes it a step further and lets you give up the forced command trait for a generic one, if you simply take a different general. I dont like the idea of a free buffet. There should be choices to be had, otherwise you would likely always pick the same artefact and same command trait.
  19. It gives you options. What if I want my Orruks to be some dank swamp living tribe. Doesn't fit any of the 3 subfactions - My army can be its own thing. You get to pick your own trait and artefact, not locked by any subfaction. That in itself can be a huge power boost - Considerably more than a subfaction's bonus. Edit: Again, I realize this HEAVILY depends on what battletome you have experience with. I might be spoiled by the Orruks Warclans one, but I absolutely love it and think it is a perfect design and it should imo. be expanded to current and new tomes too.
  20. Yeah it could be that Im just spoiled by the Orruk Warclans tome. I do think they did a great job at it and creating interesting choices, which I would hope they continued with onwards in future tomes. Having invested a fair bit of time into the Seraphon tome Im rather happy about the new sub factions too, although the way they set up the batallions is horrible. Way too restrictive when it comes to army building. Again, it could be Im spoiled by the Orruk Warclans tome where the batallions arent restrictive at all, especially Ironfist that is literally just "bring whatever you want".
  21. I think to a certain degree it makes sense that some sub factions have a forced artefact. Like if you're playing the "Sons of X", it makes sense the leader might have some relic that is related to these "Sons of X". I do think many tomes are written in a bad way, but looking at Ironjawz in Orruk Warclans as an example - You have 3 subfactions with forced command traits and artefacts. There are stronger things from the generic tables within the tome, but also from Malign Sorcery. This creates a situation where you technically have 4 choices - Sacrifice the good stuff for unique bonuses/abilities through subfactions, or sacrifice these goodies in order to pick superior traits/artefacts. Imo this is a good way of doing it.
  22. I am really curious what their plan is for the giants. How will they be different and play on the table? From what I gathered in the preview video, it said "giants and nothing but giants" - I guess there wont be any "gnoblars", but I guess you can always ally in goblins due to destruction if you wanted some more bodies. Outside of "hurr durr big giants on the table", I wonder how they will be much different than the current hyper elite forces we already have, like almost pure Stonehorn lists etc.
  23. Im honestly considering fielding 1 Bastiladon in a FoS list, simply to throw Mystic Shield on it and then use it to tie up things for likely multiple turns. If you can prevent spells (in my list my Kroak will have +3 to unbind from my turn 1 and onwards) dealing MW to it, and prevent units charging it with impact hits, you have good odds of keeping it at the top bracket for a while. Obviously I wouldnt throw it at a bunch of Hearthguard Berzerkers with Poleaxes, but if they have Boardaxes, you are having a laugh. Those dudes wont be moving for a long time.
  24. I mean you play whatever you want to play, but the list imo doesnt really make sense. You have 2 incredible fast hammers in the 2 Maw Krushas, but the rest of the army is super slow. You also have almost no bodies on the table to take objectives. Bonesplitterz are generally great, but they require buffs/spells to really bring the oompf, which you dont really have. Maw Krushas are generally not good for their damage, but for their speed. If you have 2, you really want to play to their full advantage which alas is speed. So the remaining army should compliment this by also being fast - That's why 2 Maw Krusha lists in Ironjawz always run 4x3 Pigs - They can somewhat keep up, instead of slogging behind and effectively be a waste of points.
  25. If you are gonna run Thunder Lizard with 2 Bastiladons, I would 100% get the Thunderquake Batallion and get the Aetherquartz Broch artefact. Otherwise, as the others have pointed out, you will have a rough time getting enough CPs to keep it going. Sure you might run OK the first round or two, but you want to keep going. Limiting yourself to Thunder Lizard with just 1 Bastiladon seems a bit weak imo. I would consider just going straight Coalesced so you arent locked into a specific artefact (if you dont want to change list to fit a Batallion), or possibly consider Starborne with Dracothian's Tail to deepstrike Sallies. But then again we are getting into this weird area where you want to run certain models in a certain subfaction due to rule of cool, neither might be optimal, but at the same time want to optimize the list.
