  1. Does that mean a Runefather is a very important hero so the berzerkers are battleline? (is there a difference between Vulkites and Vulkite Berzerkers) What about having a Runefather on a magmadroth and runesmiter on foot? Having at least 1 magmadroth is good, yeah? To be honest, I'm buying this for my friend. I'd like to get it built and painted for him, so I want to make the correct modeling decisions. He plays 40k but hasn't played AoS and I don't know Fyreslayers. Our group has Skaven, Idoneth Deepkin, Maggotkin/Slaves, Disciples of Tzeentch, and Free Guild. I appreciate the insights. I've asked him to look at the units and battalions to see if there's anything he'd like.
  2. Are Fyreslayers a very hero-heavy army (like Blades of Khorne)? The plan is to use the starter box by itself for a bit, but if 10 Vulkites are trash alone it might be the best idea. The box comes with a runesmiter on foot, so got that. Are the Runefather and Runeson different models? Perhaps I'll keep the rider unbuilt or unattached to the mount and try out some different versions. Do Fyreslayers have any "mandatory" battalions or any decent/good ones? I take it lords of lodge and warrior kinband are at least worth considering?
  3. I want to buy the start collecting box for fyreslayers and I was wondering how to build/equip everything. What would you guys recommend?
  4. Okay, well that still solves my problem. Of all turns, surely the first turn is the safest to not use the command ability? I'm not sure why I'd want to stack them. Good to know that I have the option.
  5. After asking I started thinking I'd at least get the extra distance from the vortex's base but I did not realize how large that model was! That's impressive! I'd really love to find a way to include cogs on a MotC LoC, vortex on an Arcane Sacrifice Gaunt, and Pendulum for 3x10 Pink Horrors. But maybe that's just excessive haha. We are allowed to cast Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield more than once, right? Can we cast Mystic Shield on a unit already buffed with Mystic Shield for the purpose of fate points in situations where there are no alternative options? Also, is it possible to use the LoC command ability more than once a turn to stack the +1 to cast spells? I read on here something about using 2-3 of it in a turn for a devastating magic phase but I had assumed the way this worked was simply +1 to cast each turn I wanted to spend a command point.
  6. How? It seems that the wizard gets to be set-up within 6" of the vortex after it is dispelled but only 1" away when cast. On turn 2, I could dispel vortex, move 6" forward, and then cast it again, but I don't see how I'd get a 6" move on the 1st turn.
  7. Asimov, what do you mean you can unbind spells at 30" now? For the Vortex + Gaunt + Arcane Sacrifice combo, do people use this to get off offensive spells on turn 1? Has anyone had success with a turn 1 33" Infernal Flames or does the fun come later?
  8. When using 3 units of Pink Horrors do you ever feel limited in your ability to spread across the board since all the units need to be within range of the pendulum/head?
  9. That's why I talk about the strategies and synergies that can be used in the army and how they've performed in other people's experience. That's why I don't just ask what units are good, but I try to understand what is making them good and what role they're playing in other people's armies. I do plan to proxy, but it helps to know how the army either a) is supposed to function, or b) is used effectively. Especially since Tzeentch is like a whole new world to me. The shooting and magic phase have usually been empty for my armies. I got some really helpful advice from I think mmimzie and used it with one of the lists posted. I will definitely be proxying before buying
  10. Hey no problem! It was useful for me, too. I was worried about lacking fodder if I removed the acolytes and took 30 pink horrors, but after looking at the numbers I think it could work, and be fun. Blues are not a replacement for Skyfires, but they certainly are for acolytes. The downside to blues is that the enemy can block their placement, but I'm guessing that's why it's so important to get the summoning out early. I'm thinking I might try this (proxy) with a friend: Allegiance: TzeentchLeadersGaunt Summoner and Chaos Familiars (180)- General- Trait: Arcane Sacrifice - Lore of Fate: Glimpse the FutureLord Of Change (380)- Artefact: Mark of the Conjurer - Lore of Change: Fold RealityThe Blue Scribes (140)- Lore of Change: Fold RealityOgroid Thaumaturge (180)- Lore of Fate: Treacherous BondBattleline10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (200)- Lore of Change: Bolt of Tzeentch10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (200)- Lore of Change: Tzeentch's Firestorm10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (200)- Lore of Change: Unchecked MutationUnits9 x Tzaangor Enlightened on Disc (420)Endless SpellsAethervoid Pendulum (40)Chronomantic Cogs (60)Total: 2000 / 2000Extra Command Points: 0Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 98 Since the Shaman is 180 points and does not increase the potency more than adding 3 Enlightened for 140 points I'm thinking I won't take him at all (but that's because I'm not taking any Skyfires or Tzaangor units, too). In terms of pure summoning potential, the Curseling and Gaunt are the cheapest in points per spell casts, but I don't really want the Curseling. The Blue Scribes is still cheaper per cast than most other heroes, and giving all my wizards rerolls to their casts will be very helpful for summoning and will let me save on destiny dice. Ogroid seems to have a lot of potential being able to deal good melee damage, auto-heal, and cast spells. I'm hoping Treacherous Bond will be a useful way to kill off horrors while enraged without risking dying. The one thing that worried me was having no fodder at all. But if I get off all my spells on turn 1, I should get an average of 25 blue horror points and 13 fate points, giving me the option to drop 20-30 blues.
  11. Depends on how many Fate Points you're getting in addition to Horror kills. The Pendulum will do 3.5 wounds per unit and costs twice the price of the Swords. Statistically, the swords will do 4 wounds to a single unit. So, Pendulum+2 units will give you a reliable 14 blue horror points and 1 fate point. A single unit+swords will get you 8 blue horror points and 1 fate point. Pendulum+3 units will get you 21 blue horror points. If you take Arcane Sacrifice with an Arcanite hero you can get another d3 killed (avg 2). If you take Mark of the Conjurer on LoC/Kairos you can get 4 fate points (or 6 with Chronomantic Cogs). Say you used Quicksilver Swords with Mark of the Conjurer Lord of Change on Pink Horrors. You'd kill 4 Horrors, generate 8 horror points and 2 fate points. Now you'll need to cast 10 spells in order to get a 2nd unit of blue horrors. Say you used Pendulum with Mark of the Conjurer Lord of Change on two units of Pink Horrors. You'd kill 7 Horrors, generate 14 horror points and 2 fate points. Now you'll need to cast 4 spells in order to get a 2nd unit of blue horrors. If you took Chronomantic Cogs, you could cast a 3rd spell with the LoC to give you 2 fate points, leaving you with only needing 2 more (and you already have 2 units of Pinks). Pendulum+2 units of Pink Horrors seems to be pretty reliable. You'll likely be generating a few points more than you'll need (on average) which gives you room for failing spells or being unbound. This is all theoretical, I've only played one game and my Quicksilver Swords dealt 3 wounds turn 1 and 1 wound turn 2.
  12. I'm hoping for insight from other players to avoid buying units I'll end up realizing I won't use. I really like Pink Horrors, but they're expensive and I'm not sure I can field 3 units, but I'd like to. I already have 3 enlightened and I'd like at least 3 more, but I'm worried about their usage. In 2,000 points 9 enlightened and a shaman is 600 points. That just seems like a lot of points located in a small unit, granted they are very fast and the points include a wizard. I'm also worried about Fold Reality because 1 in 6 casts is going to be fatal. I recently discovered (on here) that Kairo can help mitigate this with his one-time ability, but I don't think Kairo is a replacement for a Lord of Change since he's missing the command ability and his unique spell isn't quite as good, imo (plus I'd need to buy a spawn or two). I'm not sure if I could fit all of the things and the advice I previously got was not to take more than 3 battleline units, so if I took 30 Pinks and 0 kairic acolytes, that might not be so good. On the other hand, maybe being able to summon 20 blue horrors on turn 1 would make-up for it.
  13. I'm working on a 2,000 point list to build into from my 1k list of LoC, Gaunt, 10 Pink Horrors, 2x10 Kairic Acolytes, and the Cogs & Swords endless spells. The list I've made is only 1700 points, I'm wondering how to finish it. I'm thinking of adding 10 more Pink Horrors (maybe removing 10 acolytes if 4 battleline is too much), some endless spells, and perhaps a command point. I like the cogs and blades spells, but wanted to see what other advice people have. Allegiance: TzeentchLeadersGaunt Summoner and Chaos Familiars (180)- Lore of Change: Unchecked MutationLord Of Change (380)- General- Trait: Magical Supremacy - Artefact: Mark of the Conjurer - Lore of Change: Tzeentch's FirestormTzaangor Shaman (180)- Lore of Change: Fold RealityOgroid Thaumaturge (180)- Lore of Fate: Glimpse the FutureBattleline10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (200)- Lore of Change: Bolt of Tzeentch10 x Kairic Acolytes (80)- 10x Cursed Blade & Arcanite Shield10 x Kairic Acolytes (80)- 10x Cursed Blade & Arcanite ShieldUnits9 x Tzaangor Enlightened on Disc (420)Total: 1700 / 2000Extra Command Points: 6Allies: 0 / 400Wounds: 99 So, what should I do with the remaining 300 points? I'm thinking 200 points on horrors and the rest on endless spells. And how do the spells look? I gave the two highest spell casts (firestorm and bolt) to the 2 best casters the LoC and Horrors. The only fate spell I wanted was Glimpse the Future so I gave it to the only guy who has to take a fate spell. I'm considering using the Balewind Vortex on the Gaunt Summoner to increase the range of Infernal Flames, good/bad idea?
  14. I wonder if maybe I should magnetize their arms. Do people who field skyfires and no enlightened have melee units elsewhere? What worries me about making mine into skyfires is that I'll be left without any melee units.
  15. I'm not sure if I should make my 3 miniatures Skyfires or Enlightened. What makes the Enlighten the more popular option, Skyfires seem very powerful.
  16. I have 1 exalted flamer and 3 flamers, so that's 12 and 18 fate points. I really like horrors and flamers so I'm hoping to find some use for them.
  17. Hey, that's a ton of information, thanks! Does the Fate Bolt of Tzeentch count as the Change Bolt of Tzeentch? Like, can they be cast once each or once total? Are there any special tricks we can use with the Destiny Dice? Do you find yourself mostly using them on random important rolls in each game or are there uses that you come to a battle prepared to do? I mean, if you're using Glimpse the Future to regain one every turn, you're likely using a couple a turn. Saving any 1s for pink horror battleshock tests seems pretty useful. I was thinking I could use them to get perfect charge ranges off on important charges with the enlightened. I could see myself rolling a single die for casting/charging and then picking whatever number I needed to get the amount I need. How many pink horrors and blue horrors do I need outside of a list? Like, right now I have 10 pink horrors and 10 blue horrors, so I technically can't even produce all the blue horrors I'd need unless they both get wounded together. But if I plan to play 1k points with 10 pink horrors and 2x10 acolytes, do I need more pink horrors or more blue horrors to summon? Do you spend fate points on more blue horrors or are they saved for better demons? You said you might summon flamers if you have enough blue horrors, would you ever summon pink horrors and do you save your fate points while summoning blue horrors or do you end up with enough usually because you spend both fate points and blue horror points on them? Is a 10-man Pink Horror unit not enough justification for Fold Reality? I thought that'd be one of the main uses for semi-infinite blue horror points. I did buy the Malign Sorcery boxed set, I figured my friends might enjoy access to the endless spells, too. With all these spells and spell models I might be tempted to put a lot of them in a list while I'm working on getting more models. Are there any ways to tell I have enough/too many endless spells? I noticed an army list a page or two back that has like 8 or 9. Are demons generally more about summoning and arcanites more for damage? If I'm looking for increasing my potency should I be looking at Tzaangors?
  18. Turn 1 would you be putting a unit of 10 blue horrors in a line 9" in front of them? Is a Tzaangor shaman more offensive or is it included in the list to buff the enlightens? I know I initially asked about 1,000 points, but in a 2k list would I be able to combine summoning with killy units? I like the idea of 9 enlightens, but what makes them better than skyfires? How bad are flamers, screamers, heralds, and the burning chariot? I figured a herald would be nice to have and I thought I might be able to summon some of these units since I don't have spare pink horrors, and even when I do there will be times when I've got 18 fate points but not 20. What spells should I take? I'm thinking Tzeentch Firestorm for the LoC and Bolt of Tzeentch for the Gaunt Summoner and Fold Reality for the Pink Horrors. When I read that spell I didn't think anyone would be using it, how do you prevent the unit from being wiped? I'm guessing on pink horrors it's not the end of the world because that'll be a ton of blue horror points, but if people are using it on their enlightens doesn't that periodically wipe out the unit and ruin expensive models?

  20. Do you ever spend fate points on blue horrors? Do you save them for pink horrors, or something else? The blue horrors can be set up anywhere near the characters, so does it matter that the pinks move up 5" (where do you get 6 from?)? What does cutting the board in half mean? Do you mean like divide the forces? Does a summoning army drown the enemy in flaming shooting attacks? I imagined that the magic was the power/threat of the horrors. I imagine I might use a destiny die here or there for the battleshock tests on the pink horrors. Can they ever go above starting strength? I really appreciate the help, this is the kind of Tzeentch trickery Khorne warned us about. I think I understand the LoC and Gaunt, though. With +2 fate points for each spell cast from the LoC and cog giving it an extra cast each turn I can generate 6 there, 2 from the Gaunt, and another from the horrors which means I'll be summoning blue horrors from turn 1. Would you give me an example of what you'd do against, for example, skaven? Hellpit abomination, 2 units of 20ish clanrats, warpflamethrower, 3 flamethrower ogres, grey seer, rat hero(?). You talk about using summoning and the acolytes for positioning, but I'm afraid I'm not sure quite what you mean. 9" away means I can only block 6" of enemy movement. I bought the starter kit with 10 pink horrors, 1 herald, 3 flamers, 3 screamers, and a burning chariot, 10 blue horrors and 10 brimstone horrors, and 3 enlightened/skyfires. I'd like to get a LoC, Gaunt, and 20 acolytes next. I see how much more useful the acolytes are as the tzaangors aren't cheap and I'd like to have some pink horrors, which seem extremely expensive.
  21. A couple more questions... What is the advantage of blue horrors? I get that it's nice that if they die they can come back, but what reason do I have for killing my own pink horrors to make them into blue horrors? Aren't pink horrors better? Even if I turned some of them into blue horrors and then revived them using the icon and a spell, is that really a worthwhile investment? Does the Gaunt Summoner use a realmgate to summon a unit of pink horrors or is it not used directly for summoning, but for his unique spell? So, acolytes just stand in front of all the wizards and horrors dying to prolong the enemy's advance? Can a LoC, Gaunt Summoner, and 10 Horrors inflict enough damage to an enemy army in 1,000 points?
  22. I like the first list with the Pink Horrors and LoC, but how does mark of the conjurer help? Aren't the summoning spells removed? Also what are the acolytes for? Are they just fodder? I like the idea of the Gaunt Summoner, LoC, Pink Horrors, and Tzaangor Enlightens. For 2k points could I field those with a Tzaangor shaman and maybe some tzaangor, too? I'm not sure what the acolytes are for, it seems like a lot of shooty units without any protection. How necessary is the portal endless spell for DoT and is there a way to purchase endless spells individually or must I buy the malign sorceries?
  23. Any advice for fighting skaven at 2k? I'm expecting 2 abominations, some flamethrower ogres, and lots of rats. Also for fighting idoneth deepkin at 1k? My friend has a lot of eels and a shark, idk what else. I've got a bloodthirster, 50 bloodletters, 2x10 blood warriors, 10 bloodreavers, 3x3 skullcrushers, 2x5 skullreapers, a khorgorath, juggerlord, mighty lord, bloodsecrator, 3 slaughterpriests, a bloodstoker, an exalted deathbringer, and an aspiring deathbringer. Skaven, Idoneth Deepkin, and Free Guild are the only forces I know I'll be up against in the near future. This is what I'm thinking for a 2k point list based on what I've learned here, but I'm not sure if I should use gore pilgrims in 1k or not and I have no idea what deepkin can do: 200 - Gore Pilgrims 320 - Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster - Death dealer, Immense Power 140 - Bloodsecrator - Brazen Rune 100 - Slaughterpriest - Blood Sacrifice 100 - Slaughterpriest - Killing Frenzy, Wraith-hammer and Hackblade 100 - Slaughterpriest - Killing Frenzy, Wrath-hammer and Hackblade 80 - Bloodstoker 200 - 10 Blood Warriors - Goreaxes, Goreglaive, Icon 70 - 10 Bloodreavers - Reaverblades, FC 320 - 30 Bloodletters - FC 170 - 5 Skullreapers - Daemonweapons, Soultearer, Icon 170 - 5 Skullreapers - Daemonweapons, Soultearer, Icon
  24. Hey, what's good with Maggotkin? I recently got some Blades of Khorne and I think my friend is considering starting Maggotkin. What units/battalions are seeing a lot of action and is there anything to avoid or that's a must have? Are army lists typically demonic, mortal, mixed, or is there a variety?
  25. Could you elaborate on summoning? What do you summon and for what? I read somewhere in this thread that pink horrors and blue horrors can't split without a hero/wizard or something nearby, but that doesn't seem clear in the book/rules. Also, would you show me what a good 1,000 point starter list that could be added to to make a 2k point list might look like? I could make a 1k list of the guys I'd like, but I hardly know what I'm doing, I've never used and rarely fight against tzeentch and as a Khorne player I've only dabbled in magic. Would I be fielding a Lord of Change and/or Enlightens in a 1k list?
