  1. Gonna be interesting to see what people think of measuring to a base, not the model, on that one.
  2. Exactly. Calling them that diminishes them and the work that went into creating them.
  3. Often they don't, and I feel it's both lazy and disrespectful to the creative effort of those who made the things to do this. For example, some people still refer to the Vanguard-pallador models as chocobo. I dunno. I like to think that we're better than that here. Better than Dakka posters.
  4. Why? Why do gamers (nothing personal) always feel the need to apply silly little cute or shortcut names to things like this? Grr. Smh
  5. Agreed. I think those are just Easy to Assemble versions of whatever they are.
  6. Sure they can. They have before. They will again. In fact, even just in AoS, they already sort of have with the multiple Stormcast books.

Let's see the NSFW bits. Blur them maybe?
  8. For years (literally decades) I only ever did fine ballast, goblin green, bilious green drybrush. Thousands of models. Bases are a simple method of conveyance, not part of the model. It's dumb that the soldier picks up the rock, skull, or twig and moves it up the field with him. Yep. That's what I did. I changed.
  9. I like your spirit, but GW history not only suggests, but actually demonstrates, that they can and will Squat not just units, but entire armies.
  10. Much to their own loss. I like matched play as an option to have, but the joy of this hobby we are in is the models, not the point values. The collecting, painting, etc. are what make it the thing it is instead of Risk and the like. Interestingly, it's what makes Shadespire such a huge departure for GW. That game is all about competitive play as opposed to the hobby experience.
  11. The rest of your post I agree with, but not this. The passage of time itself does not make my legal-within-the-rules armies invalid for the game system of which they are a part. I understand disappointment by others who want to get the army and can't, but that's no reason to tell me that my models are no longer valid.
  12. I'm with you. I prefer Open Play, so lack of points is no biggie. It would be marvelous if they would just publish Tyler's TK book as the official one, even if slimmed down into a Legends format. His work was really nice.
  13. That's been my experience so far. The lack of movement is killer in a 3 round game, and you only get 2 rounds to inspire them. Since you simply cannot count on inspiring them, and there are not enough "do nothing" objectives to win with them, you need to press for kills very fast. If the opponent does not allow you to get those kills, you don't tend to do well. It's not absolute, of course, but in my experience, this has been the way things pan out.
  14. Another warrior steps forth boldly from the 1990's Red Era to join Riptooth. I swear, one day soon I will set up a proper photo studio, but until then these single-light, ****** photos will have to do.
  15. You'll note I pretty much ignore objective play. I still believe that's dead. I assume (accurately so, it turns out) that I'll get one model inspired per game between Tefk and Fjul and, sometimes, one other between Vol and MM. My other warbands are looking at at least half the fighters getting inspired, with more than that being pretty common. Also, when I do lose with these guys, it's almost always because my opponent understands that if they avoid contact, I can't get the ball rolling fast enough, and I'll end up on 3 or 4 Glory at best. It's a pretty easy warband to beat, as long as you know to just sit back.
  16. Working on my Fiends. For those of you who recall the 1997 metal Flesh Hounds, that's where the green comes from. I'm going for a blend of new school and old school. As always, these are super simple paint jobs for basic gaming models, but I like the results given the limitations.
  17. Not quite the same options. You'll have to be particular about where you place the "blast" whereas with Earthquake there is no such concern. They both have their benefits, though.
  18. I've been using Earthquake as a surprise. Line up my fighters to move onto objectives, line up theirs to move off of them. Use Earthquake to do it all at once in one direction. My record over the last 21 games is 17-4.
  19. I will list my deck here, but first it's important to get into the ideas supporting it. Minimize the number of hexes between the two boards. That means long board (short sides touching) or short boards shifted as much as possible. Choose a board arrangement (if possible) that puts impassible hexes near the spot where boards meet. Have at least two objectives that can be reached by at least two fighter each. Put your objectives near the middle, with one of them a hex or two into enemy territory. Don't panic if you don't Inspire. Getting Glory early is more important so that you can Upgrade. Always look for ways to achieve multiple Objectives in one Action (Charge-kill (+1) with your Leader (+1) with an Attack that is more than needed to kill (+1) = 4 Glory including the kill itself). This also cycles your Objectives very quickly, which is great. Now, the deck: Objectives Alone in the Darkness (happens a lot in Round 1, and often in Round 3 as well) Crushing Force (combo!) Escalation (if you are not seeing this happen almost every game, you are not playing this deck correctly) Defensive Strike (combo and a great incentive to "retreat" into your territory to kill a dude without "wasting" gained ground) Flawless Strategy Victory After Victory (awesome to chain with Flawless and an immediate or two) Chosen Champion (see Escalation) Master of War (a gimme) Ferocious Charge (combo!) Superior Tatician (easier than you might think) No Remorse (combo!) Scion of Grimnir (combo!) Upgrades Sprinter Solid Stance(for board control if nothing else) Trusted Defender A Destiny to Meet (Fjul + Chosen Champion, so why not?) Grimnir's Speed Activated Runes Grimnir's Fortitude Great Strength Shadeglass Dagger Great Speed Awakened Weapon Ploys Flickering Step Oathsworn My Turn Distraction The Earth Shakes Tantalizing Prize Treasure-lust Earthquake Inspiration Strikes Shardfall (the most versatile, useful card in the game, in my opinion - never play without it) Piercing Stare (because it's fun to stare at a model with one eyebrow raised)
  20. Just wanted to report that I'm still having great success with these guys. Winning most games with an average score of 15-5. Moving on to the Fiends soon, but I'm enjoying these little fellas.
  21. This. Specifically. The utterly counterintuitive Sprint ruling lets us know that Upgrades, even those that say +1 Move (which the rulebook defines as a "Characteristic"), are not handled the same as the number printed in the card. It's totally silly, but that's the rule GW has already given us.
  22. Just a point of note - it's not max 1. With +M Upgrades, you can still go more than 1. If the card had said something like "all fighters may move no more than 1 hex" then it would get around the Upgrades.
  23. It's just crazy to me that one of the warbands with the easiest Inspire coditions gets a faction-specific card to do it and the hardest one, the Chosen Axes didn't. On the other hand, because it is much easier for other warbands to inspire, including the Fiends, it doesn't seem like as big a boost for them, so it doesn't bug me that they get it. If my opponent wants to fill her deck with things she doesn't really need badly, fine! Meanwhile, the Chosen Axes got a big time boost from the generic inspire card. I would like to see GW sell a pack of extra cards for the game that contains maybe 3-6 cards for each warband and a dozen or so general cards. They could address imbalances this way without having to modify existing cards (such as inspiring Axes if they were on an objective at the end of the model's Activation instead of at the end of the Phase). This would really help us to see more Axes, Guard, and Reavers on the table (why do I always pick the worst "armies" as my favorites? lol )
  24. Ta da! ? I hear you on the Reavers, but more movement and more fighters are good things, too. Also, since they Dodge you don't have to feel bad about "wasting" your Shields when you are hit by a Cleave attack. ??
