Soulsmith
Looks great! Your paintings really come along, and you make good pace with it too! Kept clean and crisp tzaangor despite them being famously challenging. Also I'm stealing your twistbray idea, the spear looks great!Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Tzaangor Management
Cheers @Soulsmith, much appreciated and a thing I just realised when building my next batch of ten Tzaangors, is that the enlightened arms fit directly onto normal Tzaangor bodies. So you don't necessarily have to chop off their hands of you don't want to!
Tzaangor Management
So I meant to take and post some pictures of the latest Tzaangors I'd added to the coven, but got distracted by the release of Skirmish and the arrival of an Ironjawz Warband in my life... Probably shouldn't have started painting them without finishing my fledgling Tzeentch army, but I'm sure that I'm neither the first, nor will I be the last! First test model below and I am beginning to think that I may have a predilection for dark grey / blue colour schemes... Will force myself to do a bright colour next! Thoughts, tips, comments and criticism very much welcome. And some Tzaangors with axes, no helmets and purple crystals to differentiate them from the previous unit should they need to be split up on the battlefield. Rungi
Great "smeared-on" effect with the red stripe on the orruk's armor. Adds a lot of personality.

Tzaangor Management
Been working hard on the second in command of my small Tzeentch force, trying to refine the lessons of the past 5-6 months, as well as having a stab at some new techniques. There are a number of things that I would change if I were to start again, but overall I'm happy with the finish and I love this model, so might buy another in six months or so and try again. Queue traditional bad pictures... this is something that I really need to work on... And I finished five more marauders Five Marauders, five Tzaangor and one Ogroid Thaumaturge to finish in order to get to 1000 points. As always, feedback, comments and criticism gratefully received. Gorthor21
The Tzaangors look awesome with axes and shields. Thats a good way to differentiate them. The chaos lord is shining and its cool how you brought the skintone over from the beastmen.
Tzaangor Management
Thanks for the kind words @Mordeus and @Gorthor21. Short break from Tzeentch this week, with the second test model for my Iron Jawz Skirmish warband. Figured I can play around with the Ard boys, as when / if I try and turn the whole thing into an army, I'll likely pick up a starter set or two in order to get the Gore Gruntas, so will get plenty more Ard Boys from there. Tried out a bit of armor chipping on this one, probably could use a little more and probably a wider section of brown, as it's a little lost between the base colour and the metal. Any thoughts or advice? Will do at least one more I think, possibly two or three.
Kramer
the armour chipping looks cool! But I think you are right with your own critique. For example if I were only to see the chipping on his toe I might actually assume it's an honest scratch on a tin model. So I think I would try to darken it a bit. As always very nicely done and it's inspiring to see how you try to use every model to improve ?

Korpur
I really like the Gaunt summoner, especially his head. That green and black works great with the warmer tones. Nice skyfires too. Btw, the red-blue scheme on the black orc is badass! I think it would look awesome with some brownish metal with strong red/orange rust to compliment the blue. And of course the mandatory chipping and scratching
Tzaangor Management
Thanks guys, the comments really make a difference. On 6/27/2017 at 6:09 AM, Kramer said: the armour chipping looks cool! It's very inspiring to see so many great paint jobs and ideas around that I almost have to try something new each time. The one caveat to this is the battleline, which I think I'm just going to get done to the same reasonable standard as the rest. I'm on my last 16-20 models for each unit and I must admit to be a little fatigued. Those old WFB armies must have taken some serious willpower! And of course the mandatory chipping and scratching Thanks man. I'm unsure if the blue and red scheme will look a little too close to my tzeentch, but will do a couple more test schemes and will definitely look at some methods for doing rusty metal to expand on the chips and scratches and to dull the slightly too shiny chain mail and weapons. Will try some simple freehand patterns as well. So far my freehand has been limited to the Lord of Chaos' cloak, but I feel like the Iron Jawz need something on the armor. Tried to skirt around this with the smears, but might try some triangles or cheques, which I suspect are going to be pretty hard to get right, so will be pretty limited I think, but probably worth a go at. Routasydän
Nice work with the Orruk Id maybe shade either the purple or red to tell them apart from each other a tad more. But nice choice of colours, they work together and dunno if Ive seen another like that ever

But nice choice of colours, they work together and dunno if Ive seen another like that ever Thanks for that, I was shooting for something a little different! I think you're right on the colours, although I've approached the solution in a slightly different way: I bought some Naggaroth Night. It's slightly bluer (as you may be aware), so keen to see if that might bring a higher contrast and I can always shade the other model again to see whether I can improve the contrast that way. I also shaded both the red and the pink / purple (not to mention the leather and metal) with nuln oil, to see what kind of effect shading the whole model with the same wash would have. Could this have pulled the some fairly similar colours closer together?
Tzaangor Management
Had these guys almost ready a few days ago, with just the bases to do today, which was just as well, as the paint almost dried out between the pot and the palette today. Final Tzaangor finished (unless I decide I need another 10 to make a 30 man squad somewhere in the future) and getting closer to the 1000 point mark. Tried some freehand on the banner here and went for a bigger contrast than on the Chaos Lord's cloak, so it's a bit more visible. Think I could've afforded another colour or two to make a bit more interesting, but learned a bit from doing it, which is a large part of the process. I have a banner in the last batch of Marauders to do, so will probably do a trawl of YouTube to try and pick up some tips, but if anyone has any tips, or knows of some good beginner's guides it'd be much appreciated. As ever, always welcome criticism and feedback.
Tzaangor Management
In between the very hot periods, I've managed to get another Orruk test model done. I don't think any of these is right, with the blue getting lost in the most recent one and so I'm considering going a couple of hues up on the main purple to pick out some of the details and provide the contrast between different armor layers - like the colour on the cloth that you can see on his left shoulder instead of using blue. The final colour scheme will probably be some combination or hybrid of these (I definitely want some red in it), so any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Scratches on the armor look better with a more pronounced Mornfang Brown layer beneath. I used different sized brushes for this (larger for the brown under-scratch and smaller for the Leadbelcher scratch over the top) and was quite surprised by how much this helped. As always, tips comments, criticisms greatly appreciated.

Soulsmith
Honestly, they are all great. I will say the first and third strike me the most, as it has the strongest contrasts. They make the red spot colour pop, but also the green skin. I also like the green/yellow tint on three's weapons. If you are big on individuality, purple ironjawz are certainly among the rarest schemes.

Tzaangor Management
Thanks for the comments guys, definitely seems like most are leaning towards the first one. Will do one more test Ard Boy, incorporating some of that design and an idea borrowed from somewhere else and see where we've ended up. The feedback and sounding board are greatly appreciated though and it's interesting to me having this kind of input at the concept part of the process, rather than once the initial idea has been mostly nailed down. All part of the learning experience! I'm very much on the final leg of the race towards 1000 points and completed the last five Marauders last week, but have only just had a chance to post the pictures. Really happy that these guys are finished, they're a little rough around the edges, but was a nice chance to practice a little more freehand, as well as make a couple of little modifications to hair and helmets. I've made some good progress on the Ogroid Thaumaturge - the final piece of the puzzle - and am hopeful of having him completed this week, if not next. As always comments, criticisms, etc. are very much appreciated.
Tzaangor Management
So, here is the final piece of my 1,000 point of Tzeentch Mortals army. Pleased with how the colour scheme translated onto this guy, as I was slightly worried that he was going to look to monochromatic at one point and later in the process I thought he was going to look way too colourful! He also represents six months of painting the army and seven months of not smoking. Buying the Silver Tower game was my optimistic early gift to myself for giving up, which led me onto Tzeentch and this new addiction has very much helped keep me away from my old twenty year habit. So, thank you for the comments and encouragement, they've made a big difference to my technique, as well as keeping me going when I felt like I wasn't making progress at times. Still many improvements to make and I hope to make some of those as I move to my next non-smoking target of a year and, more interestingly in the context of this forum, at least I hope so, painting a 2,000 points army. Anyway, just wanted to put a proper thanks in black and white and now back to the interesting stuff!: Comments and criticism as always very much welcome. Cheers
