  1. Wow I hadn't even thought of the Ogor charges with 3D6. That's super duper tempting! I just sold my painted Kragnos a month or two ago cuz he sucked SOOOOO bad for me in 6 games in a row (5 at an event).
  2. I was planning on using my 3x10 old Miners as Longbeards, and then basically as screen units who may or may not actually do anything. Guess I need to pay attention to the cranky pants distances too now! Really wish I could find some well priced hammerers. Also, they haven't been repackaged for AoS. Do we think they have a reasonable chance of finding themselves in real future tomes? Hate to invest too much into them if they will be Legends.
  3. Wondering how I might construct an interesting Despoilers army with some of my Chaos models? I'm thinking Despoilers for that terrain manipulation effect, plus they like Daemon Princes, and so do I 😀 For Chaos I only have a BoC army (mostly Warherd), but have allies of a Daemon Prince of Khorne and 2 Mindstealer Sphiranxes to start with. How many other Daemon Princes and what other Mark(s) would be good? I was thinking maybe chariots for battleline because they have that MW charging thing like the Ogors, and less to paint. That Fomoroid guy with the terrain detonation thing is neat. Looking for a fun bag-o-tricks style army, not necessarily super high grade tournament consistency stuff....something more....chaotic! Would any of my BoC allies work well with Despoilers? A Doombull and 3 greataxe Bullgors are pretty straight forward but have the rend/high damage threat, of course they usually miss. Guess 2 Doombulls would be better actually. I also have a Shaggoth and 3 Dragon Ogors. And a Cygor, who seems somewhat useful for the points now that I'm thinking about it (haven't used one in like 2 years or so).
  4. Yeah I think Manfred is mainly a support/annoyance hero, but he probably can do some harm if he doesn't chicken out. I still have yet to fight the Lumineth at all. Insta-win scenarios are usually my nemesis, but in this case I got lucky (as I didn't even realize what I had done there, just knew I wasn't gonna get over there to kill those zombies any time soon, if ever). The Gorgers were actually very useful for diversions in the backfield, getting a couple MW from their charges, and also tying up the Blood Knights. Apparently the Blood Knights can only do their fly-over thing w units of 3 wounds or less, so the Ogors being 4 or more really paid off there Gorgers are pretty cheap so for what they do I think they're worth it, giving the Mawtribes something a little beefy to get to the backfield if the mission permits reserves. Same deal with the Hunter who usually does nothing either. But he fills out a Battalion. Guess a Firebelly would do the same thing but he can't deepstrike. The Leadbelchers are the cheapest battleline I have, and they are a good all around unit. 16 wounds, not great saves but can easily fit into cover. Shoot stuff, dish out MW on a charge if they can, decent in combat. They tackled the sprinkled summoned units and took pot shots to whittle down units whilst controlling objectives. I didn't move them up because I figured the mission didn't really call for it in this case.
  5. Thanks for the inputs! Very good points all around. I am leaning towards Ironclad then, as I do see the KO bunch as an area cleanser, which will then aid the progress of the tunneling Fyreslayers I have in mind. I do have 10 Thunderers with the plain rifles so they could still unload while garrisoned. Haven't used any garrisoning before. Gonna have to read up on those rules about embarking and disembarking, etc. Then the 30 Longbeards and 20 Irondrakes plus Runelord(s) and Warden King (maybe) can run up normally.
  6. Is it super necessary to have a KO Frigate or Ironclad to transport my Grundstok Thunderers? Just wondering if I should budget for a ship. And then is the Ironclad really worth taking over a Frigate for that points difference? While I do see potential with the extra shooting and alpha strike and they look pretty striking, what about a more tanky model who can survive combat (and throw some decent attacks back) ....I rather like the Frostheart Phoenix better for the points, and it's also very pretty on the table. Speaking of the Thunderers, I noticed if they have all the fancy pants guns they can't get the +1 to hit with them whilst on board a ship, and that hit debuff effect from the fumigator doesn't work either. If garrisoning, is it better then to have just the regular rifles? Definitely liking Tempest's Eye for a mob of angry charging Dwarves, but they'll need some swift support units. I have the Gyrobomber/Copter, Frostheart Phoenix, Lord-Arcanum on Gryph Charger. I see there's a spell to add 1 to attacks...would love to see a line of 30 Hammerers all buffed by Runelords smash into the entire enemy line with that.
  7. Had my game vs Soulblight. We did that first mission, I think Marking Territory? It was a sudden death mission too. He had a lonely zombie unit on the back left objective, and 5 Knights/Necromancer/10 Graveguard on the back right one, 10 wolves with Zombie Dragon lord and Carstein in middle, 5 more Knights/10 GraveGuard in front of those zombies. I chose to go 2nd, did Finest Hour on the FLoSH w Titanic Duel after slamming into Carstein and POOF.....that guy can just vanish out of combat?!? So I piled in a wiped out the wolves, but ZOmbie Dragon piled into FLoSH did like 1 or 2 wounds which got healed by Splatter Cleaver. On the left my Ironguts reached the wolves but were just hanging in the wind. Hunter/3 Gorgers captured that back right objective. I got turn 2 priority, and rolled into the left Knights w the Ironguts, killed off some Grave Guard and summoned wolves on my left objective w Leadbelchers. Charged the right Knights w Gorgers and Hunters. Zombie Dragon got down to 8 wounds left, FLoSH held in with 1 or 2 on him after the Cleaver. The Dragon had an artefact which subracts 1 from my wound rolls for every unit within 6", AMAZING! I mean, amazingly bad for me, so I just couldn't get rid of stuff nearly as quickly as usual. He got my down to 4 Ironguts and killed of my left center Leadbelchers, killed my Hunter. I failed my kill a battleline tactic but did kill the Zombie Dragon. He failed to Bring it Down on my FLoSH so we were tied. He won turn 3 priority, gave me 2nd turn......I burned the objective under his zombies and TAH DAH, insta-win for the Ogors, as they still controlled those other objectives !!!! Even without that blunder I think my big boyz would still have had the win eventually, even with Carstein running around. Blood Knights have a good armor save but don't seem to do that much damage. Those Graveguard though, those could be nasty with that Dance Macabre. Gotta watch out for them. Splatter Cleaver was wonderfully successful this game.
  8. True, there's a whole bunch coming down the pipeline in the next few months probably. I ended up getting a Runefather Magmadroth, one with the furnace platform (and I can magnetize a Runesmiter up there), and 20 Vulkites w Slingshields, plus the tome. Didn't see the terrain piece at the store though. Seems worth getting since I'll have 3 Priests in the army. With either Magmadroth as general I'll have 3 battleliners then with the HGBs or AHGs, running both units in every army. 4-5 Gyrocopters or Bombers would be a fun group of allies!
  9. My friend just traded me a Gotrek with other stuff for a megagargant. Looking forward to seeing what he can do/how long he can last. I built the Gyrobomber rather than the Copter, but put the cool dragon mouth steam gun on front. That way I can run it as either one. Such an elaborate kit for a cheap 4-5 wound model! Pretty good stuff for something from 2013 or so. Guess that can be a sneaky threat. Irondrakes I'll probably use in a unit of 20 to max out on the buff potential from the Runelord.
  10. @readercolinWow, thank you very much! I'm looking forward to getting my Start Collecting Greywater Fastness box today to nab a Warden King and 10 more Irondrakes. I'll probably convert the Cogsmith to a Runelord, as I just don't see the Cogsmith being too valuable. 2021 was the year of Destruction for me; 2022 will bring Order.
  11. I finally have my 10 Auric Hearthguards and Runesmiter for allying with my Dispossessed City....and another Runesmiter and 10 HGB w the poleaxes because they were super cheap, plus the Firespitter and Infernoth invocations. Now I'm thinking well, should I just get the 3 Magmadroths and 20 or 30 Vulkites I also saw on sale and make a whole army of Fyreslayers?! Not sure about what's hot and what's not with these guys right now...guess everything's hot with them My thoughts are 2 deepstriking units (with the ones I have already) and then 3 Droths plus Vulkites running up, that's some decent jaws of Vulcatrix deployment right there. Not familiar with the Lodges yet or anything. I do have the legit dice too...... Worth taking allied Dispossessed or KO?
  12. I've been hankering for some hammerers. What are some good ways to generate CPs for the Dwarves? They get the City Adjutant guy pretty easily, but that's usually good for just 1, and half the time. Seems like with our slowness we'll need that run 6" quite a bit. Of course I haven't tried it yet but seems like they would be a pretty good unit. Fairly cheap but they can pose a decent threat (even if not a real big threat) to weak units. And if you have a CP they could move after they unload the guns on something. Dropping the bombs on the way, could clear out that lonesome unit of zombies that you couldn't otherwise get to, for example.
  13. Hmmm, I haven't greenstuffed tiny things in quite a long time. This could be a good project for green stuff stamps. Maybe with little dowel segments, then stamp little things to glue onto the dowel segments. But I'll see if there are any cheapo dwarves on eBay. I got a good deal on some old Miners but many others seem pricy. Miners will be my Longbeards, or when I get more other units for battleline, a giant unit of Hammerers for the MW potential. In the meantime I've got my first Cities list idea using the other units I have or are on the way. Living City. Not an event winner but seems fun nonetheless.
  14. I built my box of Irondrakes, and now still have all those Ironbreaker bits. Anybody know where to get some cheap Dwarf bodies to make some decent Ironbreakers? Didn't see anything on Spellcrow for just bodies.
  15. Next week I am scheduled to play Soulblight. I'm gonna run this: I think the deepstriking will help, and hopefully I can get some good charge rolls to soften some weaklings up and then do nothing to them in combat cuz: Gorgers. Aiming for a hero snipe really but also can help with some objective grabbing and maybe mission accomplishing. Big Drogg can get some extra MW with his death breath so figure he's a good one over the normal Gatebreaker. Went with Bloodgullet; the Splatter Cleaver has done well for me the couple times I've used it, though the Alvagr Rune Tokens are pretty good too. Report next week......
  16. My vote was for those SoBs. Ogors was almost there but I played more games with my Megagargants and they are indeed a relaxing army to play without much to remember... and I had fun kitbashing all of them out of Chaos bits. You'll all be happy to know I only have like a 50% win ratio with them too!
  17. I think for Gyrobombers if they just changed it to 'at the end of the movement phase' instead 'after a normal move'. Then they could drop the bombs even if they 'ran'. Or make them move 16" like the Gyrocopter. One way to mitigate their current limits though is moving in a non-straight line. Zig zag over like one enemy model of a horde. Still have to have decent starting position though. Maybe the Duardin will all get some newly crafted armor or runic wards in their next incarnation. Grungni must have something in his shop for that?!
  18. Bah, humbug! Guess I won't bother with the Heraldor then. Living City seems like the most fun City. Besides Azyr that is LONG LIVE SIGMAR!
  19. I've only got a couple Stormcast units for my Cities army, a Lord-Arcanum on Gryph and 2 Dracoths (magnetized for Concussors or Fulminators). Thinking about getting a Knight-Heraldor and 2 more Dracoths to make a unit of 4 Fulminators. But wondering if the Heraldor makes them run and charge, can they still spit lightning? Or is it a choice between running or shooting? Also the Lord-Arcanum is way too many points!
  20. Good point, not sure I could fit that many other units into 2000 points!
  21. Looking to get some KO for either coalition or allies for my Cities army (and for a theoretically probably Duardin United tome in the future). Is it better to have an Ironclad, or 3 Grundstok Gunhaulers for the points? Also can't decide between those Skywardens and Endrinriggers. The healing from the Endrinriggers is good, but the MW tricks of the Skywardens seem very scenario specific.
  22. Yeah, I think if I can get ahold of a Volley Gun or two I'd use Dwarves as the crew. Maybe swap their heads out for:
  23. I like that the Gyros can be in units of 2, but I'd probably just use the Bombers as a duo. Once I gather forces I'll report how practice games go. They do seem to have some more synergies between units than my Gutbusters and Warherd. Not used to having synergies.
  24. Didn't see a thread specifically for this topic. I'm getting eager to make some rune-crafted armylists for my first full foray into Order. What are people's thoughts on the classic Dwarf units and how to play them currently? Warden King seems like a good general with an Amulet of Destiny, probably wouldn't take more than 1 though with the limits on CAs. But an extra attack for Hammerers seems pretty good. I'm thinking 2 Rune Lords is good. Possibly 3 for getting off all 3 prayers per turn (1 being the generic Curse). Only got my tome a couple days ago, but not real sure about the Cogsmith however in an all Dwarf army. He could benefit the Gyrocopter/Bombers but I think only Greywater Fastness, and those are moving fast anyways so the Cogsmith couldn't keep up. For battleline, looks like pretty much everything qualifies with a Warden King as general. Ironbreakers seem solid with a 3+ save. Longbeards already have the rend but only 1 attack and only a 4+ save with the rendy axes. I'd probably go with Hammerers with that kit (which is hard to find by the way). MW on 6s plus the damage....great with a Warden King and rend prayer from the RuneLord. Irondrakes are a must. Wish they wouldn't have legended the Cannons though. Now given their slowness, it does seem the only viable way to mitigate that with short folk is with allies or coalition units. Luckily the exotic Dwarves can handle this. Though it would be cool to see an army of all Dispossessed. Dwarves don't like magic very much so I'm reluctant to rely on the Soulscream Bridge or Boatman spells. Any dedicated Dwarf players play in 3.0?
