  1. Literally everything was either a lampoon or homage back then. Especially with 40K borrowing from a wide assortment of sources. It seems like around the 2000’s it started to take itself seriously and we get more of it as unique to warhammer. I read a bunch of the Elric of Melnibone stories a few years ago and AoS is heavily influenced by his journeys after he destroyed his kingdom. Especially with how intrinsic magic is to reality in the setting.
  2. If I recall correctly nagash once wanted to kill all life so he could set himself up as the only god in the realm of chaos. That is if I remember the liber necris correctly. im sure a ghost could be corrupted by chaos just as much as anything else could though shyish could function as a way to keep the souls of the mortal realms out of the realm of chaos.
  3. If they make Morathi ascend to godhood in the next narrative book then we will see what that might entail.
  4. In a way stormcast eternals are Undead creatures as they are a spirit that is manipulated by an external force. They are devoted to Sigmar utterly and bound to him in the same way the most powerful undead are bound to Nagash and merely extensions of him. I think the difference is in the disposition of their masters I.e. Nagash limits their independence due to his megalomania and Sigmar gives his greater free will as that’s a facet of the human condition that he believes strongly in. I would go as far as to say that eternals who have undergone numerous reforgings and loose their personalities to the point of appearing as automations are more akin to Nagash‘a undead than anything else.
  5. I have read it. That was from before warcry was a thing.
  6. I wonder if they still are going to have buildings made of light in Hysh. That also raised the question of it there would be buildings made of mist and fog in Ulgu that by magical means becomes solid and then can be taken down in a sense to be fog again to allow for towns/cities/encampments to be able to move when needed to avoid invaders or whatever. We can assume all azyrite built stuff will follow a formula as it would be very Order if it was. we have seen cities of bone and canvas in Ghur and the Living City in Ghyran and obviously the Ossiarch Empire made of bone but that has proven to not the norm and it can range from very familiar like Altdorf/Talabheim to whatever your imagination can conjure up. We are definitely not as bound by imagery as 40K and you can really go with whatever idea you can come up with.
  7. Yeah I was thinking of painting them both the same shade of blue. Either which unit I put it with I will paint blue whorls on the shields and maybe blue woad on the humans.
  8. Thanks for all the replies everyone! I am definitely getting motivated to add the cypher lords to my collection now. I am thinking of adding Corvus cabal as well but just a single set to act as a skirmish type unit. I’m also thinking of adding either spire tyrants or the iron golems to work with an Ogroid mymidon as I think that would look freaking awesome with a little shield wall with that brute behind them. Though basic marauders would work too. Some part of me still has hold outs from my Warmahordes days with the separate functioning ‘modules’ in army building. Aside from cultist units I am very partial to the Kurgan warlords from the olde world and I wouldn’t mind having a big block of 20 marauder horsemen with a cool unit champion as their chieftain. That would be a hell of a way to die in the silver tower, you turn the corner onto a large corridor and a huge mob of crazed horsemen come and trampled you beneath a wave of horseflesh. @Baron Klatz I like the idea of the Sphinx thing acting as a false prophet with the cultists going out missionary style in Hysh to bring fresh victims to the Tower. I like how the Sphiranx fits with the cypher lords like the myrmidon fits with the spire tyrants. In all honesty I will probably end up getting a few of the cult units as I intend on getting around 10 k points of tzeentch stuff in the end. Though I doubt I will ever find anyone wanting to fight that battle I would love to have that army on display.
  9. Hello all I am sure some of you have seen my blog about my hobby in the blogs section of this site and noticed I am building a Tzeentch army at the moment. I am thinking of adding some Warcry models to growing horde of Tzeentch. I know that none of the warbands are meant to be dedicated to a specific god but these guys scream Tchar to me. From what I can gather about the Cypher lords they function almost identical to an arcanite cult by waging clandestine wars and inserting themselves in places of power and importance to sow discord and anarchy for the sake of it. They differ by how the majority of the cypher lords are enthralled to the leadership and display minimal free will as opposed to how Kairic acolytes join their cults in hope of a better lot in life or a chance to attain more power for personal gains. Aside from these minor lore differences, thematically they are very similar in design as well as how they live their lives in the mortal realms. My army’s lore is a host from the insane labyrinth of a Silver Tower as I feel that gives me lots of room to work with. I plan on adding two of the cypher lords sets and a mindstealer sphrianx to give me a large brick of fodder and a cool medium monster to paint up. My contention lies on what other people would think of this and whether or not the cypher lords are a good narrative fit for an arcanite cult and if not what other war bands would be a better fit with Tzeentch.
  10. I finished these guys really quickly compared to everything else I have painted lately. I went for the color scheme I used on my first chaos army back in 2003 as a throwback to my Warhammer roots. I had a lot of fun painting them aside from the green scale thing and the super old ones I had in my bits box. The hunchback one was made from several broken guys I had from when I started way back when. The sorcerer was a quick paint last night. He was one of those models I always wanted but never got around to buying until now much like a lot of this army. These guy have me motivated to get the box of 16 warriors to fill it out to 30. Next on the paint log is most likely the enlightened but we will see.
  11. I have been working on these guys for a while now and I am happy to say they are done. The pinks and blues are brighter than my older ones and don’t have the varnish on them but I am fine with the way they are. The two units of pinks I have are on different size bases( I think my first set was an old 40K box before they introduced the 32mm bases). It is not much of a bother and I doubt I will use all 21 of them at once. I also got the slaves to darkness starter and I love the new sculpts especially the chaos knights. I did the underworlds warband as well and I now have 30 acolytes and a cool magister! well here are the pictures and my next project.
  12. The living city has all those things but does have stormcast but that is because the free cities sprung up where the stormcasts made footholds. Shouldn’t be too hard to read the portion about Ghyran (aka green) in the main Rulebook to come up with some suitable place or name.
  13. If someone threatened to bust up my experience Nagash model I would threaten them right back by saying I would bust their whole army and laugh. he is probably just playing with you in a brusque way, my friend I got into the hobby was always like that and I got used to it very quickly. He also had a tendency to cheat with dice rolls and won every game we ever played to the point that if I killed just a few dwarf warriors he would get mad and want to quit the game. It’s really a matter of if your relationship with that person is more important than sweating the small stuff like that and trying to be friendly with them despite all the negative.
  14. This has been a fun read with all its ups and downs. Speaking from my personal experience with my transgender wife she isn’t very keen on the hobby but she tends to like the female models I have better than the male or daemonic. When I first showed her Slaanesh and expected her to be offended by the way they focus so much on the hermaphrodite aspects of the daemons. She didn’t like them at all but it was mostly to do with how the Daemonettes look. After the released the hedonites battletome and the new keeper of secrets she picked it up at the GW and said she liked how it looked so go figure. What I guess I am getting at and what a lot of others have said is that we are an invested community to be posting about this stuff online in the first place and what initially will draw someone to a certain model or army isn’t really a gauge of them as people are constantly changing their perception of the hobby when they are not as invested as the folks who are 10+ years into the hobby or fantasy in general.
  15. The Tzaangors are ready to march! I got these guys done over the last few weeks. The newer set I made as many of the mutants and great weapons I was missing as I could and the paint job is a little lighter on the skin but it’s not all that noticeable. I feel pretty good about how the two batches blend together. I have got a few sets of enlightened and a shaman are on the way so I’m looking forward to assembling them and putting the paint to the plastic to finish churning this Tzeentch horde out.
  16. Like how the special weapons in warmachine work? Do they still operate like that anymore? It’s been quite a while since I’ve looked at the core rules for those games.
  17. You’re right when you look at it like that. People still have the idea of the command group from Warhammer fantasy in their minds when they thing about it. one person even said they couldn’t think of any historical precedent for it even though it could have been done in the past despite we in the modern day not knowing about it. Given desperate times or to draw attention to a banner for commands to be given I’d say the horn in question didn’t have much of a range as a musical instrument. at the end of the day folks with be as they are and it is safer to just make them all separate models instead incase your opponent acts like a few have suggested and walk away because of a model being two things at once. I will make a separate musician and standard bearer because I found a solution I like and to be honest I am one of those people who like the old command group look that kind of anchors the whole blob of models together.
  18. I didn’t mean to offend anyone asking how it’s unsportsmanlike. I Thought it was such a minor thing that it wouldn’t really give much of an advantage at all. If it was the last guy I doubt the +1 to bravery or run and charge rolls would be that big a deal as he would probably run from battleshock anyway. I didn’t know it would be a thing that would make people not want to play the game with me. i have resolved to either convert it or use the horn from the bloodcrushers set anyway so I guess I won’t be a bad opponent to play against.
  19. Oh I figured you had from what you said. I like the new ones but the older plastics have that nice 10 man unit for what I feel they will charge for five in the future. The skullcrushers come with a left handed horn that looks better to be frank. If I have one in my cavernous bits box then I can just file the Khorne rules off of if need be. I posted this to the rules board but it hasn’t had nearly as many useful replies as this thread.
  20. My intent wasn’t necessarily to take advantage of any benefits it would give to have them as the same model but to have 9 guys with lances out of 10 as opposed to to the 8 if they were separate models. i think it would be an easy fix for them to clarify that each needs to be a separate model instead of saying they need to be citadel models.
  21. If you don’t mind me asking, how is it bad sportsmanship?
  22. I was thinking of converting him so that he is holding the horn in his left hand instead. Having built them do you think this would be difficult?
  23. I raised this question after thinking of buying a set of chaos knights and wanting to use one model for both roles as I don’t like the way it makes the unit look. the other members on the other thread brought up good points and I decided to post here as they suggested. so the only mention I can find in the rules are in the core rules and on the warscroll: So rules board what is your take on this command group conundrum?
  24. So one argument for it must be appropriate citadel miniatures which can be interpreted as must be assembled as per instructions as the second argument posits Or that they simply have to be citadel manufactured products which they would be. i understand why it would make sense to follow conventional thought I just always hated the Hornblower on the chaos knights even back when they were multipart metal sets. Why couldn’t it just be in his left instead of a shield. rules debates aside I might as well convert the thing to his left hand.
  25. The way it is worded it sounds like it can be the same model to me. I understand that it’s implied they should be different models but the wording is similar to the original warscroll for liberators that says one in five can take the special weapon options so the prime could be equipped with it. I know they updated it with later iterations of the warscroll. im not trying to pull a fast one on anyone and there isn’t any real benefit as the model can be removed and you loose the benefits of both options. I thought it would make the unit look cooler if there were more lances instead of the horn and standard taking up so much space in the front rank. i know it’s a carry over from wfb with the command groups being specified in the core rules and this has only carried over with the older kits.
