Just a thought but while every 8th edition army will have rules at launch, doesn’t mean it will be 8th edition rules. I’m thinking they will step back to a earlier edition that has been tweaked.

    7th edition here we coooooooome

Honestly, I personally consider that the peak of WHFB (okay, mostly due to nostalgia), but I wouldn't say no to some classic "herohammer".

Ya it was brought up a little. Means the rumored brets v tomb kings is that all the leakers talked about will most likely happen. Just no rules book in it or whatever they consider an official GW starter set lol.

It'd be funny to know what the official definition for starter set in Gamesworkshopese is. For funsies I checked the "not a starter set" HH set and the AoS starter set, and while both have core rules the AoS starter set comes with terrain/cardboard mat and push-fit miniatures (as opposed to traditional glue-is-required ones of HH). Feels in many ways arbitrary, as at least I perceive starter set to mean a box with two opposing forces alongside core rules, but apparently that's not it.

A real shame they didn't show the Q&A on stream, I think it'd have helped with misconceptions like this.

They teased them with TOW articles, but no actual models.

I would give my 🏆 but I'm all out of reacts for today, so have an emoji variant instead: 🏆

I am really curious about this. My feeling is the same, but my mind tells me that only a very small percentage of these fans (if any) will be able to resist contact with 30 years old kits (mould lines, assembly etc) and rank and flank rules.

Heh, you're probably right and indeed time has marched on - but surely there must be people who would? I mean, isn't that how many got into WHFB and 40K back in the day with their Dawn of Wars, Space Marine, Shadow of the Horned Rat, Mark of Chaos and the like 😁

So... They say that they'll focus on armies that are active during the period and the geographic area, but existing 8th ed armies will have rules support, so... What we can expect in each category?

    Supported

    - Empire / Kislev

    - Bretonnia

    - Tomb Kings

    -  All chaos flavours

    - Vampire Counts

    - Orcs and Goblins

    - Dwarves

    - Wood Elves

    Not Supported

    - Dark Elves

    - High Elves

    - Ogre Kingdoms

    - Lizardmen

I'm not sure... Looks like except Lizardman all 8th ed factions could be supported...

I'm pretty sure I saw a High Elf emblem on the map shown in the stream, they could probably represent local enclaves/merchant district elves.

Oh the Old World made me happy, very happy!

Plastic is king, but resin is fine.

Oh I can't wait to see this launch box.

It was time for me to temper my expectations though. It seems we may not see Cathay or Kislev as originally thought? I mean, well I don't remember seeing Kislev on the map, unless I just missed their symbol. Going to expect just the classic factions.

However, I really think this is going to be a VERY popular release on launch. Who knows what support we'll get once we see the success of this. And I honestly do see this launch being very successful for GW.

Didn't GW confirm both Cathay and Kislev ages ago or am I mixing things up? Well, even if neither materialised I don't think it'd be the end of the world (heh) in terms of getting people interested in TOW. Maybe there's die-hard Cathay-fans thanks to TW:WH but the numbers are surely smaller than even old school Dogs of War fans 😜

I absolutely agree it'll be popular, at least in terms of "specialist games". There's both the nostalgia factor and Vermintide and TW:WH brought in a lot of new blood into being fans of Fantasy.

Congratulations @Public Universal Duardin for your army of choice (besides the obvious one) being reborn with a great hero/commander leading the charge. Inshallah one day we shall have the demonic engines of doom leading the charge in both TOW and AOS, but until then we can convert the Dawnbringer an into new knights of Bretonnia…..

To be a Chorf fan is one of patience and scouring ebay listings 🙏

But Bretonnians were my original love whose litanies of heroism included battles against cannons of dwarfs, chariots of Nehekhara and hordes of goblins (that is, the armies my brothers and friends owned). In the golden days of yore when the floor became a meadow of clover, styrofoam pieces walls the cowardly enemies of the Lady cowered behind and overturned Coke cans towers for heroes to duel on top. So seeing a new knight is, well, absolutely fantastic 😁

The Dawnbringer knights do open up some really interesting conversion ideas 👀

BY LONG LOST NEHEKHARA I AM WEEPING!!! Look at this masterpiece of desert unlife! His false beard alone would make the duardin of the Age of Sigmar weep with envy.

I'm so happy for both of us, even if we didn't get a release date TOW will be GOATED!!!

Them saying that all 8th Ed armies are supported, so...Legion of Azgorh...maybe???

  8. Oh wow, this was genuinely more than I had expected (which had been a single miniature and a picture of a map lol)! Guess this soft-confirms TK vs Bret box.

But aaaaaaaaa, the Paladin looked so awesome!!!! My boys will ride again (until Chorfs are confirmed, of course 😝)!!!

OMG seeing that map again on GW socials...I feel so happy, it's like seeing an old friend after a long time spent apart. I know I am going to get milked HARD for those nostalgiabucks, but why else would I work than to afford the Warhammers I couldn't years and years ago?

The state of affairs in Hungarian is also pretty bad (although I'm surprised there is a market for ANY Warhammer books here 😛).

Tuan have published the first 3 Realmgate Wars books, Soul Wars, City of Secrets and now Ghoulslayer (which iirc only happened because the publisher pestered GW to let them translate it so much they allowed it)

They have also clarified in social media posts iirc that they are only allowed to publish works if approved by their connector (or if they pester GW enough), and that the only AoS book they've done that wasn't ordered to be translated from the UK was Ghoulslayer, and that they currently don't have any direction in regards of translating AoS, while 40k and HH are full steam ahead (alongside their own projects like the Cyperpunk Red and now-cancelled D&D translation)

Kinda sad in all honesty, I would have loved to have a physical copy of Dark Harvest, English or not.

I'm surprised to hear Hungarian gets any localisations! I'm so used to seeing DE/FR/IT get translations while rest of Europe gets left behind in the dust - I mean, I understand if my native Finnish is too small of a market but there's 11 million Swedes right next door yet they get none. Maybe GW assumes - correctly, most likely - that Nordic geeks understand English well enough that we get no translations 😁

  11. I'm very happy to hear everyone's opinions about what you bet the launch box will be! I'm a bit surprised about the Empire vs. Orcs suggestions as although nostalgic (6th edition launch box right?) there's not much to suggest Orcs. Empire vs. Empire is also much likelier than some think - why else would GW have put the setting at a point when Empire was in civil war as opposed to set it during Storm of Chaos or the Current Year of 8ths start.

  12. After vigorous pondering, séance seshs and a couple blood sacrifices of captive hobgoblins, I see five possibilities for a TOW boxed set. I've listed them in what I consider their likelihood to be.

The Fanservice: Tomb Kings vs. Bretonnia. LONG LOST NEHEKHARA lives!

The Horus Heresy: Empire vs. Empire. You haven't forgotten the setting, have you?

The Greybeard: Battle for Skull Pass/Island of Blood re-release. Here comes the money 🎶

The Total War: Kislev vs. Chaos. No Konstaltyn included.

The Chorpfium: Grand Cathay vs. Chaos Dwarfs. It'll never happen, but hopium engines are on 110% productivity!

  13. I'm hoping for a release date, the sooner the better. TK and Bretonnia would be awesome, but we know Kislev is being worked on (correct?), so I could see Kislev vs. Chaos. Or maybe they go extremely big brain and go Empire vs Empire a la Horus Heresy - Ottilian Outriders vs Elected Evictors (you gotta have alliteration in Warhammer!) with sprue sets for Middenland Marinara Sauces being announced.

Moreover, the age of three emperors includes the gigachad Gorbad Ironclaw and daddy Vladdy, Kunning Konrad and Manfred the Balding Vampire (lamest von Carstein, fight me) so while we might not see them during the reveal, I fully expect rerealeses for their models at some point. Although I'll forever miss the original Vlad model, I'd fully expect them to go with 8th ed ones.

I mean, look at this guy. Admit it girls, he'd steal your heart too - he did mine.

  14. Worst part of Warhammer: There's too many cool factions so I'm already having difficulty to decide which army to collect first.

Out of curiosity, if TOW were to have “upgrade” kits for certain units, are there any specific ones that would be worth it? Personally I’m hoping we get chaos god specific weapons, heads, and shields like in Total War’s Chaos Champions DLC.

Definitely different chaos bits. Easy money for GW, if we go by Horus Heresy upgrade kits.

Tinfoil thought: What if they add a Chaos Dwarf upgrade sprue to dwarfs and a hobgoblin one to goblins so one can play as Chorfs without GW having to make a completely new army?

Normally I'd spam a "LONG LOST NEHEKHARA!!!" comment, but as we've recently seen it looks like my tomb will be relatively spruced up soon. Now is the time for people such as @Public Universal Duardin, @Clan's Cynic, @Beliman, and @Snorri Nelriksson, who have patiently sat on the sides and grumbled relatively quietly as elgi, umgi, grobi and other wazzocks have gotten massive updates. Give us new dwarfs/duardin GW, even if they're corrupted.

Luckily for me, the new Chaos Dwarf dlc for Total War Warhammer is great and eases that eternal yearning for Hashut's dark embrace.

    I wouldn't, however, say no to Chorfs/Chuardin in TOW/AoS 😝

I dont think you really need too much work to fix the FS, just ditch the helmets and bring back characterful faces with mohawks and you are halfway there, the runes are cool even the weird weapons arent totally awful, (though id love a good dwarven axe option) make em use the same neck join or something and you can reverse engineer the heads even.

Wouldnt say no to more drakes, golems or artillery if they looked good though.

I just think they took one of the most distinctive units, armies even, from Warhammer and completely failed to grasp why they were popular.

They hated Noserenda because he told them the truth.
