  1. @Infernalslayer thanks! You're right about the brows, but I was afraid the head wouldn't be recognizable enough. I already chopped off the horrible topknot. The challenge was to use the head, probably because it is one of the least good looking heads available...

the chaos lord is a pretty extensive conversion. Here is a crappy phone pic made during converting:

    HRcdIybm.jpg

The sword is from the mounted bloodletter kit, chopped down a bit smaller and with added flames. the main body is from the 40k Dark vengeance chaos lord. the right arm is partially re-sculpted. the left arm is from another chaos space marine from dark vengeance. obviously I removed any 40k looking bits and added a skull to the chest plate.. the left shoulder is resculpted completely to look like fur from the cape. same goes for the back of the cape, from which I removed the backpack. The legs are actually from the stormcast that has been repurposed as a fallen statue:P the trophy-head is from a ghoul.

  2. another post in this blog that doesn't have anything to do with the title... Might need to start a new blog or something.

Anyway, I've been working on a mini diorama for an online painting/converting contest. The contest demanded you used a specific head from the chaos marauder kit. I've used this head to create a chaos champion, but I went a little crazy and used my bitzbox to create a mini diorama featuring this chaos lord and a retinue standing triumphant after conquering a city of Sigmar.

I went for the classic black armor with gold trim and some fire elements. I'm really happy with the burning skeleton banner as I always wanted to do something like that. The flaming sword was also interesting to do as I had to figure out a way to sculpt fire. painting the flames and some OSL was a lot of fun to do so all in all this was a great little project. Let me know what you think.

  3. I’m starting to wonder if we’ll see a mage dedicated to each ‘element’ and maybe also a elite unit for each one. The release seems to be really big. Allthough there will probably be some dual kits. The veiled woman might be a river mage?

for me they still give me enough of a high elves vibe but are also fresh and new.

I’m also very curious about the subtle hints towards the ‘haven’ storyline. With the chalices on the knights, the veiled woman and now the archer champion having a bird like Araloth. But it might be nothing.

  4. Very happy with the glimpses of new models. The sitting mage looks great, but the headdress is to big for my taste. the veiled elf and the bowl look very intriguing. the overal direction of these models is great. looking forward to the rest.

    some things I noticed:

the rune of Asuryan is now the sun- spirit rune? "His longer sword displays a fiery rune running the length of its blade, and he has a matching scabbard bearing the rune of the sun spirit"

I'm expecting Tyrion to ride a sun spirit. Teclis has Celennar with him, representing the moon spirit. We've seen this moon and sun theme run though all the models, so it would make sense for Tyrion to ride a sun spirit.

  5. Love the dawnrider models, very dynamic and clean. I guess we’ll get more on the Teclis model next time and then hopefully a new model?

I do wonder about the goblet on the shield and the mention of the a lance formation. I would love to see just a snippet about Lileaths void and possibly some influence of bretonnion grail knights. I wasn’t a fan of brettonnia but this was one of the more interesting bits of lore in the End Times which has always remained unclear.

  6. @Fulcanelli @Gr3g Thank you so much! glad you like my take on the hoplite elves. I'm looking forward to seeing the Lumineth, mainly because they look like classic high elves with some hoplite flavor added in. As a bg High elf fanboy I'm already planing some conversions for the Lumineth. I'm thinking making them look more like classic High elves.  I've already ordered some bits and I'm considering 3D printing some classic looking High elf shields (because they are pretty expensive to come by)

  7. I’m a high elf player since 5th Ed Wfb. But I think it would be very odd for GW to discontinue some of the HE most iconic unit kits and then just launch another army with pretty much the same units. I think it would be wise to temper expectations a bit.

as much as I would love a really good, normal dragon kit, we’ll probably see more weird AoS creatures. The same goes for elite cavalry. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but personally I’m trying really hard not to get my hopes up to much and just enjoy the new elf army whatever it looks like. Instead of getting disappointed there are no new swordmasters etc.

(having said that, I’m already collecting classic elf helmets and am looking into 3D printing high elf shields to give the Lumineth a more classic high elf look😛)

  8. Model wise I’m happy it states that heads and shield are fully interchangeable. That hopefully means easy head swaps and the shields not being attached to the arm. Because I’m thinking about using classic helmets and shields.

on a side note, does anyone know where to get classic high elf shields without paying like 5€ for just one...

"Their armour is bedecked with sun and moon icons, symbolising the twin gods of Hysh, for their warriors are neither Tyrionic nor Teclian exclusively."

That caught my eye too,  sounds nice. So we can expect units that are exclusive to one or the other.

also liked the artwork with the purple color scheme.

too bad I didn’t post my idea about the rune that represents river-mountain-sky-zenith because now I can’t claim I called that... there are a lot of tubes that look like classic high elves but this one stood out.

  10. Time for some elves! This unit of hoplite inspired elves has been hanging around on my workplace for a long time. Somehow I got a little fed up with painting them. There is still one more elf to be painted and two more shields. But I thought it would be a god idea to show them now, because the Lumineth are coming who also have a clear hoplite feel to them.

The conversions are mainly based on shadow warriors, although some bodies are from the high elf chariot kit. The helmets are created by using elf helmets, axe parts and some green stuff. The shield are from the vulkite berserkers and the spears are brass rod with the blades cut off from the shadow warrior hands.

    Hope you like ' em.

  11. I've been wondering about the souls. Maybe this have been clearified in Idoneth or DoK lore. But what happens to the souls that are retreived from Slaanesh once their new forms die. Is there a new afterlife for the souls that are saved from Slaanesh, or do they reicarnate?  Dot they go to Nagash eventually?

Also, I think in the rulebook it says that the realmstone from Hysh is a gas, that is then trapped in eatherquartz. I wonder if this is still the case?

@elfhead Thanks for recommending that I check out this thread.  Your army is amazing and very coherently realized, I am envious of your skills and attention to detail. I cannot wait to see the ways in which you twist and corrupt Teclis' force into some more of Slaanesh's followers. :)

I am working on a (loosely) Crusader inspired Chaos force that I am calling the Cardinals of Chaos, due to their red and white colouration. The theme I have developed for them is that they were devotee's of Sigmar that went on a crusade to the All Points and returned as disciples of the Dark Gods. No where near the level of skill required on my behalf, but a theme that I am enjoying working around.

I’m thinking I’ll build a small force of actual Lumineth, probably with some high elf nostalgia. But I don’t rule out the possibility of ‘corrupting’ some of them to join the Slaaneshi force.

your idea sounds like a lot of fun. I think a good narrative for your army helps you stay motivated and come up with cool conversion ideas. Doing things that you do not have the skill to do is a really good way to learn and improve. With this army I decided to try working with green stuff way more than I ever did, started painting with NMM and even learned digital 3D sculpting. So go for it!

@MitGas When I just started art school (15 years ago😬) a big eye opener was that shading and highlights are not just darker and lighter tones d the same color, but they are different colors. In mini painting it is normal to use a darker shade and a lighter shade of a color for all shadows and highlights. But a piece of cloth isn’t just 3 shades of blues for instance, it is all kinds of different hues and shades. I think you can simplify this somewhat on 28mm scale, but it might give some great results to try and incorporate this principle some more. Food for thought...
