Feels weird that they're piecemealing art/lore in these books tbqh... so basically if you buy one set and not any of the others, you actually have an incomplete Warcry book..? I hope it's just the map but still ??

Not only is the bar set higher today but I'd also argue we all have less TIME than adults did 20 or 30 years ago too. All the little chips add up to actual obstacles. Yea I can totally paint for only an hour a night but if that hour doesn't include cleanup and I have other chores or I got home from work late... guess what I'm putting off again

That is to say: this is a tabletop wargame first and foremost. Models are in a flux state of both alive and dead since anything represented with a model can technically "be killed" on the tabletop 😜 Lifespans don't necessarily need to get in the way of giving us named characters.

There were more than a few WHF heroes that weren't "alive" during the "present day" of that setting IIRC.

The funniest part is GW decided "hey Settra is totally going to invade The Old World at this time" to justify including them in that small area. Gonna say we can expect this for anyone else not in/near Old World. They specify this is not covering Nehekara even though they want to leave the door open.

This is mainly where I'm coming from too, @Ogregut. Do I need 10 cavalry to start an army? No, I don't need duplicates at all if I'm just starting. Do I even want 10 raptadons? I have no idea, without seeing how they are to build and paint first. I do know I want 5. But if it were the generic Slann, 10 saurus, 5 raptadons, and 3 kroxigors? I get a caster hero, poster-book battleline, fast cav, and smashy monsters--a perfect plating of what the army offers. I have room to breathe when deciding how to expand. I don't have duplicates taking up space. I have three minimum-sized, unique units to build and paint to find out if I *want* to build and paint more of each. Another part is we know Christmas battleforces come out with a wider range of units than SC/Vanguard and launch boxes. If the Seraphon launch box has duplicates in it, I become more likely to wait for Christmas to get more value and more unique kits out of the money I'm going to spend.

I think they might do 5 raptadons and 5 of the new chameleon skinks, or 5 raptadons and a unit that we have not yet seen. 10 saurus with 10 raptadons I think would keep enough people on the fence to be a misstep.

Don't be so sure Darkoath seem to be poised as the complete Marauder refresh, and with Cities refresh coming I could easily see mortal humans being the new poster faction for starter boxes. I would bet money GW has settled their Stormcast aesthetic/scale, so anything new for them would be updates to old models or smaller new additions like Logister or Ruination Chambers.

Snappers would be cool as a hammer/anvil hybrid! I'm hoping to see the Kroxigors leaning into more astral or magitech gear even if they stay crocodilian.

I do think 40k fans could stand to accept the ridiculousness of the setting a biiit more instead of seeing it as this self-serious epitome of "mature" scifi... I laughed out loud when I saw those marines, the concept sure is SOMETHING. But you know what? if 40k wants to establish that everything in the universe wants to kill humanity? you're gonna end up with rocket launchers on top of chainguns that maybe also shoot rockets

Same for me!!! And if it's going to be a big release well. I've been wanting to try a joint project with my partner, who has been lamenting the lack of color on my Stormcast, for some wilder color schemes. Really really hoping we see more of the astral/starborne aspect come out too 👀

Pretty sure you did? I remember my Lizardmen's Special Spawnings adding a points costs per unit to use the subfaction bonuses. I imagine other armies had similar additions. Won't disagree on the rest of the pre-game, but I remember picking subfactions as being a core part of building any Warhammer army list. PS- 40k seems less complicated because you've memorized the roll and weapon (and possibly vehicle) tables 😜 I haven't played in a DECADE and I can still tell you a Lasgun is/was a 24" Rapid Fire/str 3/ap 0 gun used by BS 3 troopers.
