  1. I love bile trolls! They have a bunch of wounds, healing, and good rend attacks in both shooting and combat phases. I often found them useful before our battletome was released in January. I would run them as sort of a bodyguard unit for Bloab Rotspawned because they could basically guarantee some damage in both shooting and combat (to maximize use of his signature spell). I only ever used one unit of 3, so I can't really speak to a larger unit size. Since the release of the Maggotkin tome, I find both Bloab and the trolls to be often overshadowed by better and more useful choices due to the new allegiance abilities, battalions, etc; essentially the meta shifted. Before, e.g., I would never use the Glottkin, but now I always look for room for him and a big unit of marauders or plague monks. This is because we have new efficiencies available to us (any large unit of 1-wound models is going to be a prime candidate for both Fleshy Abundance and Blades of Putrefaction). So I think Trolls are generally surpassed by alternative unit choices that lead to all-daemon lists, all-mortal lists, and all-daemon+1rotbringerwizard lists. But they still have a roll to fill: They are beefy boys who can lay it down. I think they would benefit from a list that plays off of debuffing enemy bravery, or if you were to babysit them with a Chaos Sorcerer who keeps Daemonic Power on them.
  2. I've never tried 20 marauders because 40 is so much better and only 80 more points, but it seems like you'd have to sac the warshrine to get them up to 40. I am not sure what 20 are capable of besides objective-work. I just feel like they are somewhat fragile (not as bad as plague monks), and the barbarian hordes bonus is really important if you are planning on using Blades of Putrefaction against order and death factions that can debuff to hit. One more thing to note, is that you could potentially swap out your 20 Marauders for 20 Plague Monks and an extra CP. I know the Plague Monks aren't mortals and are extremely fragile and no way to keep them alive longer (except Plague of Flies CA), but they do hit harder than 20 Marauders and bring the same amount of bodies. And starting with 2 extra CPs will allow you to go an extra turn with tandem Morbid Vigour and Lords of Nurgle. Plague squall is a nice choice for The Glottkin because them boys are so high up on Ghurk's back, that they can usually see all the enemy units. Plague squall is also cast on a 6+, which is huge for us! And you can generally semi-rely on it to snipe enemy support heroes by whittling them down over a couple turns.
  3. All good points. It's good to hear a positive opinion about a unit that I've written off. However, now I am going to need to buy/create one and hem-and-haw about whether I use it or not... I am the same way; I constantly over-analyze and second-guess my lists.
  4. How do you like the war shrine? I've never used one. I like the concept but the warscroll seems weak to me. Back when it was 200 points it was definitely overcosted. I suppose that the idea of models within 8" has always seemed like such a short range for a 6+ ward save, but I guess it's more like a 19-20" diameter bubble centered on the shrine, which seems big enough. We have so many big models that need to be in the center of everything... Is 160 worth the 6+ ward save and the re-roll wounds prayer? Do you think it earns its points back? For the same amount of points you could take 21 wounds of blightkings, or an entire second unit of 20 marauders and Geminids. Do you save close to 20 wounds over the course of a game with a warshrine? It's a pretty cool model, either way.
  5. I'm sorry if it seemed that way to you, but I was attempting to clarify my hopeful sentiment using emphasis. I was clarifying because it seemed as if you shrugged off my original post as irrelevant. I don't believe anything I said should give you the impression that I'm angry about this; in fact I am very excited because we, as Beasts players, will be receiving some GW love soon. We might not get everything we hope for, but we will get a lot more than we have now! I've been playing long enough to know how this works (certain things get squatted or phased out mostly because of the impracticality of trying keep everything afloat and balanced.) I won't lose sleep if razorgors are gone for good, but I was just trying to exercise positivity. I guess it didn't work. ? While razorgors did benefit from the old game mechanics, I don't think it defined them. They had a good statline. It's easy enough to make them work in Age of Sigmar. Either give them an impact hit, a damage boost, or a points reduction. As they are now, no one ever includes them. GW could have made them compendium easily enough, but they didn't. They did squat the Razorgor Chariot however, so I'm not sure how that bodes.
  6. I would still point out that 54% is basically a coin toss and I echo your warning, "You can't rely on magic." I like your optimistic points of view here about the cost of the Glott boys. I would personally not value them that high, because if you were to buy those individual components, you would have more combined wounds. But overall I like looking at it as the combined prices of each Glott brother. I think 420 is about spot on for the value they bring to the table. Your Glottkin deployment tactic is a valid tip. I may be cheating a little here because my Glottkin came with a rectangular base and so I based him on a CD which is only 120mm (about 4.7 inches).
  7. Granted,.. you could do it now? While Razorgors do have a warscroll, it was completely unusable except in a GA:Chaos list until the allies mechanic was introduced into AoS. Now you can also ally them into any army that can ally Monsters of Chaos. However, that's not what I'm talking about. In the previous version of Warhammer Fantasy, razorgors were AWESOME. They were members of the Beastmen faction and they were GOOD units. AoS nerfed them and made them unplayable in the sense that a player would NEVER choose to include a razorgor in their list (except out of pity for the dusty boar on the shelf.) I want them BACK in the game by means of an updated warscroll. I don't think that's too much to ask for, and this is the opportunity for it to happen.
  8. Unfortunately not really. Daemon wizards can take Tome of a Thousand Poxes for +1 to cast. GUO can combine that with his Blade ability. But this wont help you cast Blades of Putrefaction or other mortal-specific spells. I am pretty sure there are no hidden shenanigans here with allies or with realm artefacts either. Try to stand near Arcane terrain features
  9. I suppose he is. For some reason, I thought he had movement 8", but I was misremembering. He would need help from a GUO's bell.
  10. Kenshin is right. You can field units with as many models as you have as per "Unit Size" paragraph on pg13 of core rules. In matched play, you have to pay for the rounded-up multiple of unit size; in this case, you would have to pay for 6 drones if you field a unit of 4, 5, or 6 drones. You cannot include under-strength units in battalions (pg15 core rules). So you CAN just play 5 drones in a unit, legally, but...you are throwing 66.67 points out the window. EDIT: And yes, a unit of 6 drones is very tanky and killy and fast/mobile. LoA is a good Daemon Hero to tag along, but I think Horticulous Slimux is comparable/better at the same amount of points. And a Verminlord Corruptor is the same amount of points as well. Chaos Lord of Daemonic Mount, Harbinger of Decay, and Daemon Prince are all cheaper while still fast enough to keep up. And a GUO with a Bell has always been the best choice in my book (always been fast enough to keep up in my experience) and provides the best support and people are often intimidated at the thought of trying to kill it. Give it Pestilent Breath and Endless Gift and it can wade through hordes of infantry alongside your flies.
  11. I've never used a Soulgrinder and hardly considered it because, for me, the concept doesn't fit in to the fantasy realm -- I mean, the idea of cybernetic demons is straight outta Doom 2: Hell on Earth! So I can't speak to its effectiveness or battlefield role because of my lack of experience. However, I think it's an interesting warscroll with a few things going for it. I would maybe compare it to a Maggoth Lord, since it's a 260 point behemoth. It's not a HERO with a spell, but it has more wounds, is faster, and can potentially do a lot of damage with rend. And like you said, it can get right up in your opponents face and do it's entire song-and-dance. The rend damage is maybe not as important as it used to be; since our battletome was released, a lot of our Nurgle drawbacks from AoS1 aren't as severe or we have more ways to get around them. But rend is great! Also, I love interactive abilities like "Caught by the Claw." It sounds like a fun unit to include in a list and a fun model conversion opportunity.
  12. I hope we get our 8th edition razorgor chaff missiles back.
  13. Thank you! This thing is heinous. The face and ears are masterful, but the anatomy is too cartoonish. What's with the oversized/broad torso on tiny legs? It looks like something out of Warmahordes, WoW, or...The Incredibles. The club is great, but the arm holding the club looks very awkward. How about some dynamism? That loin cloth is awful. This is a missed opportunity at a great model. Please come back, Kev Adams!
  14. Looks good! I think you are going to be disappointed by the Verminlord and Plague Priest in this list. The VLC looks great on paper but if your opponent knows that he's got a Sword of Judgment, then the VLC is going to be focus-killed quick. And the priest is awesome in a Pestilence list, but merely alright in Maggotkin. I think your 300 points are better spent on more Rotbringer units that will have the benefit of being part of The Blessed Sons (and giving you the option to deploy your army in a single drop). Maybe drop the vanilla sorcerer and stick The Glottkin in there (Fleshy Abundance will make those marauders shine). Not that you shouldn't buy/build/paint a VLC, etc also for more options...
  15. It's ok to lose as long as you pay attention to your mistakes!
  16. Have we discussed recently how the title of this thread has misspelled "Skryre"?
  17. Jaaaaames Baxter! Thanks for the great write-up. I have about 90 Plague Monks. At that amount, and without having money to buy more anytime soon, how would you guys recommend I split up my Monk units for a 2k list?
  18. You have a great selection of models to choose from! I would start your list with the minimum blight cyst and add some punch to it. Lord of Blights 5x Putrid Blightkings 5x Putrid Blightkings 5x Putrid Blightkings Blight Cyst That all equates to 840 points Add in a Great Unclean One and a unit of 6 Plaguedrones (these are your heavy hitters once you get them extra attacks from the GUO's command ability and their locus ability) You are up to 1580 and I think you want some flavor of Rotbringer Sorcerer in there to cast Blades of Putrefaction on your drones. You have exactly enough room for the Glottkin but...if it were me, I would just take the vanilla sorcerer and then you would have 300 to spends on some smaller toys (Gutrot is nice, especially if somehow you found another 5 Blightkings somewhere, that would be exactly 300 points). I am basically suggesting a Rotbringers army with an independent drone bomb attached. The GUO needs to keep-up with and baby sit the drones, but I find this is reasonable if you plop your tree down in the middle of the board and equip the GUO with a bell. Maybe give him Endless Gift so he can get stuck-in alongside the drones and not worry about dying. Summon-in your plaguebearers in units of 5 or 10 to catch objectives mid and late game. The Glottkin will be more fun when you have those Marauders ready and when you aren't playing against Pestilence Hope this helps!
  19. Ensorcelled Weapons + War Steed's Roughshod Hooves = 5 attacks per knight
  20. So the rules state that you may choose to deploy as much as you want of a warscroll battalion as a single drop. This translates into most people dropping all of a battalion as a single drop, but you don't have to! Usually I drop a unit of blightkings and then remember that I have a battalion and set up the rest as a second drop. ? Also, don't forget that the battalion can include your harbinger and sorcerer. And it gives you access to a 2nd artefact. If you are playing with the realm rules, I would suggest your army list its home-realm as Hysh, and put an Aetherquartz Brooch on someone (LoB or sorcerer). You have a lot of nice command ability options and this handy artefact will hopefully help you to use multiple command abilities simultaneously a few times over the course of a game. Otherwise you could pick a 2nd artefact to taste. Carrion Dirge is nice, especially if you combine it with Hideous Visage command trait (but I prefer Grandfather's Blessing 9 times out of 10). Don't apologize about your taste in models/army direction! The coolest part of Warhammer is designing your own army! This thread is a great place for us Nurgle players to pool our wisdom and experience together into a tactical manual, but it doesn't mean we should all play the same army list. We wouldn't learn anything new if we all used the same strategies each time. And maybe you could try and play a couple games at points levels between 1k and 2k. Honestly, 2k is a lot to keep track of even for an experienced player. Good luck with your games and please share how you fare.
  21. Just at a glance, I would recommend you use Gutrot in place of the Lord of Plagues to hopefully deepstrike a unit of 5 blightkings. If you had access to any of the endless spell models, I would suggest taking Chronomantic Cogs or Geminids of Uhl-Gysh, but maybe it's better to stay at 1940 and just sit on an extra Command Point (you will want to use both The Glottkins and Harbingers Command Abilities on the 2nd battleround probably. ) Make sure Festus baby-sits the Glottkin for healing purposes. I would suggest using the Harbinger as your general so you can take a command trait and give him Grandfather's Blessing. And I would suggest also giving the Harbinger the Witherstave artefact and keeping him close to the Glottkin and Festus and a unit of blightkings. Give The Glottkin Plague Squall and give the sorcerer Blades of Putrefaction. Just my two cents.
  22. I understand all that, and don't forget Cogs. But I was comparing them to the mammoth. At 4" movement, they are slow relative to the rest of our army. Those are army-wide buffs (except for the tocsin), and what's 16" for a blightking is 23" for a mammoth. Maybe a mammoth could find it's role to be an anti-monster missile that smashes an important target (Alarielle? Nagash?) potentially 1st turn. It would have to be a big-ticket monster to make it worth it. You'd maybe have to follow it with a hero who can summon a tree behind it. It could smash a monster and spend the rest of the turn (and hopefully more) holding up a section of enemy before falling dead on top of them.
  23. Every once in a while, the phrase "chaos war mammoth" pops up here. I love the idea; the thing is centrepiece material and a conversion modelers dream and at the end of the day, it's just plain cool. It also comes with a fascinating warscroll and what seems on the surface to be a decent point cost. But is it really worth it? 320 points for 22 wounds, a 4+ save, 12" move (very fast!), some good rend attacks and some good mortal wound output. It also holds a bravery bomb, a little extra oomph against other monsters, and the keywords MORTAL NURGLE so it can be affected by Morbid Vigour. 320 points could instead buy you a unit of 30 plaguebearers or a unit of 10 blightkings (or two units of 5 if you prefer). Plaguebearers fill a different role on the table, so let's ignore them. 10 Blightkings, on the other hand, are a better comparison because the unit(s) get worse each time you lose a blight king and a war mammoth gets worse each time it loses 4 hit points. So 10 blightkings are going to have the same saves, almost twice the amount of wounds, and a similar enough footprint. They will put out a similar amount of damage (against a 4+ save) but their damage gets much worse if debuffed -1 to hit. They are slower, however, they can hold objectives way better. They are battleline and can be used in several battalions (giving them rend, etc). And lastly, the effects of many of our buffs will get much better mileage on units with more bodies (fleshy abundance, blades of putrefaction, etc). It seems obviously better to just take more blightkings or something else for those points (10 chaos knights?) than to take a mammoth. A mammoth is basically just cool. Am I missing something?
  24. I like the list, Luke! It's an interesting idea for a strong basic strategy; 80 hard-to-move bodies for objective-grabbing. I am eager to hear how it performs. Can you find room for another 40 marauders in there?
  25. Tasman, can you point us to where this has changed? I don't have my Maggotkin tome with me currently, but I found two different copies (of course) of the Harbinger of Decay's warscroll on the Games Workshop website. Morbid Vigour performs the same on both of them, just like I think it always has, as a 7" protection nova. However, it's interesting that one of the wordings uses the word "suffers" and one uses "allocates."
