  1. @EccentricCircle best to contact GW directly, they are very good at resolving issues themselves. Even though your contract of purchase is with the retailer, not GW, GW itself will deal with misspacks and the like. I had a german copy of the Necromunda rules in my box and GW resolved the matter very quickly. All they required was a copy of the receipt of purchase (ergo invoice). I also provided photos of the issue (sometimes they ask sometimes they don't, but I always provide them as it gives the most information on the situation to them). If anything has to be sent back they typically give you a print-out pre-paid stamp that you just print and put on the parcel.
  2. @Arkalid Currently many people think that GW will adjust some points/stats to make the powerhouse that is 90 witches with hag queens, a little less effective than it currently is. That being a very powerful block that is proving very popular at present. However in general there's a lot of synergy going on with Daughters (which can also mean a smart opponent can learn to snipe off some of the synergy units); but also a lot of nice internal battletome balance that results in a very tight army where there are not real outright bad choices. This means that there's already multiple ways to run the army and I would wager any change is going to be small rather than vast - ergo a tweak rather than an outright big change. Esp since whilst the witch and queen system is effective its not unbeatable; this is't a death-star faction where the power combo is vastly beyond other armies to counter, its just a little ahead of the curve (accepting also that many of the armies are still without a proper battletome). As a result I would be honestly shocked if GW changed enough to make collections invalid. So I'd say that they are a very safe army to invest into right now. Furthermore the new Christmas boxed set is a great deal and ideal place to jump on board; either with one or two of them you'll have a great core to expand from.
  3. Looks even more fantastic - hope you get many a grand gaming night/day/weekend upon such a table!
  4. Nice idea, simple and clean! I might have to steal/borrow. I've also done some conversion work on my Daughters, such as a feathered Khinerai for a leader https://warminiatures.wordpress.com/2018/07/05/blood-angels-of-khaine-a-conversion/
  5. Two possible reasons (which can be happening at the same time); 1) The Moonclan teaser has confirmed it for many existing fans which has led to a big run on sale as people snap up models before the launch. Mostly older collectors filling in gaps and getting shiny new stuff before the Battletome drops. This would fast run stocks low as chances are they've not been selling strong and thus GW might not have a huge backlog already produced. 2) GW starting to repackage models for release for the new Battletome.
  6. Personally I really like the combo of Khinerai plus Shadowblade Assassins; the shadowblade itself costs the same 80 points and puts out much the same damage and is just as tough, but has the bonus of extra damage on heroes/characters. In addition the Assassin hides in a unit so you can reveal it at any point in its named unit (its one of the few bits of info you are allowed to keep hidden from your opponent during the game until the assassin is revealed*). It makes for a great way to double the power (and more against a hero) of the unit and gives you an added weapon against powerful isolated characters *Of course if the unit its hiding in is killed off before you unveil it then you lose the assassin
  7. Hey you guys got Brian Blessed voicing a Dwarf! And a real Dwarf not one of them durdinwhatsits
  8. I think that GW still needs to settle the AoS lore and backstories a bit. They've got a bit stuck from trying to rush through 2 whole ages of the Realms in a very short space of time and then their current age sort of needed a lot of military and war heavy books to get it started so that every book wasn't "Chaos is winning I'm running/hiding/losing" stories. So we've had a lot of stormcast books focused on a lot of battles. I think that we are starting to see with things like the new Novella series and Inferno, a shift in the writing from GW and we can expect to see them starting to experiment starting new characters. I'd expect to see them test the waters and then see which ones work and which don't and run with that. Since that is basically how a lot of their other heroes grew over time. One bonus is that because of the Grand Alliance system they can do a party and have it cover quite a few different factions with named heroes. So that would help give different players different characters for their armies. Plus we already have their comic series and the brave and bold Archibald.
  9. Wait I might have mixed up Khinerai! @Souleater yeah I mixed them up cause the stabbing snakes have spears and the ranged khinerai have spears too (ok javelins). The close combat khinerai are the ones with hand scythes and are indeed less popular due to the fact that they are often operating beyond aura influence and only have 1 wound each on a weak save. So the ranged ones are often favoured as they can strike at distance and then retreat without taking damage, if they can swoop over difficult or walled terrain even better as then any ground close combat unit can't even reach them.
  10. Yep the only other transport tip is to consider adding some stonework or ruins to Khinerai bases, they are great models but they stand on their tails which are all plastic. Not just fragile, but the darn things wobble somewhat. Either way if you use magnetic sheets for your transporting, the Khinerai want to go back into foam rather than magnets (because all the magnet will do is keep the base still, the rest of the majority of the model will still move around lots - so foam keeps its still and stops it hitting/entangling with other models).
  11. @Tel well price wise going witch or snake heavy costs roughly (very roughly) a similar figure (snakes might actually be a little cheaper). and both are very viable builds. So you can't go wrong either way. That said I often find that unless you're building for a very specific army and build, then having variety in your collection is a good thing. @Souleater In general stabbing snakes are more popular than the ranged ones and the same is also true of the khinari. Basically even DoK ranged units are half close combat ones so sometimes going all into close combat can be more attractive. But remember even the "lesser" options are not bad choices by any means. Daughters is a small enough army range that there are basically no totally wasted choices. As for what to build a few thoughts: 1) If you are going to magnetize the Cauldron then nothing stops you magnetizing it so that the heroes can be on foot (on a base) or on a Cauldron. You just need to drill a hold into the base for a magnet same as on the cauldron (possibly adding some Greenstuff to the base so that you can drill into something before putting the magnet in - so that there's something to hold it in place - another option is to add a bit of scenery to the base). Even if you don't want to use magnets I would advise magnetizing the Avatar and heroes on a cauldron - helps a LOT with storage and transport. 2) If you go all for magnets then you can get both the cauldron and the shrine in one go so you can pick and choose what you want (and with two kits chances are you won't need any if many more as they are expensive at a few hundred points each so you often won't take more than two of either at a time). 3) I would go with; a) Magnetic Cauldrons *2 (if you use magnets you don't have to) b) 1 Cauldron with Slaughter Queen and 1 Bloodwrack Shrine (if you don't magnetize, though I still strongly advise magnetizing the queen and avatar) c) 20 Witch Aelves with Bucklers (there's a thread linked in the first post and my general maths theory is that bucklers are more durable - duel blades work great on a charge where they get first attack and look great, but for getting started take the bucklers and their save bonus to help out). I'd probably make these as a single unit with one hornblower and standard bearer d) 10 Bloodsisters which are fast and hit hard, a good heavy hitter for you in the early stages. The bonus here is that you can run them in two units of 5 and if you make the Bloodwrack shrine your general then they count as battline troops (which means you can keep your 20 witches in a single unit) e) Khinari wise I would "personally" make 10 of each to get started; which gives you tactical variety and options. Otherwise 20 lifetakers. I'd likely expect to deploy them in units of 5 or 10. Their strength is in being able to swoop down mid to late game and either contest/secure objectives or go for blocks of isolated/vulnerable artillery/mages/archers. Of course a larger unit is more durable and dishes out more damage; but in the same token might prove harder to deploy (depending on how terrain dense your tables are) and also puts more of your choices in a single deployment. Meanwhile more smaller units are less durable, but you can deploy several at a time to the same location to support each other; or spread them out as needed; and you've less chance of limiting yourself as to where you can put them.
  12. Blood Coven is certainly not overkill, however check out the GW website in a few weeks - there' a big box coming up for sale over christmas which has in it 1 Cauldron kit 10 Witches/sisters of slaughter 5 Melusai 10 Khinari All at a pretty steep discount from GW direct and its also supplied to 3rd parties so can offer even more discount on top of that. If I were buying now and looking at the Blood Coven, I'd seriously look at this set, just to get some extra savings and models.
  13. I think that rumour has been floating around for a month or more at least. Right now I can't see it happening "soon" and even if it does chance I can't see them changing the army wholesale -so your friend would still get a solid use out of the book; not to mention the lore aspects.
  14. I think the reason there isn't much chatter is because its a very points expensive battalion to take; I forget how much it totals up too but I don't think its too far shy of the lions share of 2K points. So its a lot to commit too and that's with minimum squad numbers in each unit. I think Stormcast and Daughters as a general combination is very interesting; Stormcast are certainly far better (in general) at having a tough stat line and holding the line, whilst Daughters are far swifter (in general) and more apt to alpha strike. I'm sure there are probably some neat combinations that can be used in an alliance situation
  15. I don't expect to see anything of Moonclan until next year, they've teased it this month so I'd expect January for them. This month we've got a lot of weeks eaten up with big box Christmas releases. There's also Blackstone taking a 2 week pre-order (which might mean we miss one whole week of new products to order). Wrath and Rapture is iffy on if its this year or next, but I'd wager as they've shown the box art (which almost confirms the 2 other new options in the box) as well as shown off the fiends and hounds, we are close to a release this year (ergo pre-Christmas). After that I just can't see there's any time left to get Moonclan out, esp when one considers that GW is going to wind down a bit over December and January as staff go on holidays.
  16. And here I was thinking the whole Skaven range was just a big familiar army of pets
  17. Thread raised on the topic - @RuneBrush i'm aware you've given an answer here and that that is the formal mod stance, I figure a separate thread lets members air their views on the policy and also clear the air in more detail from the mods/admin perspective without derailing this thread.
  18. It's probably worth its own thread, but many forums fund themselves through a mixture of private investment (owners pocket), advertising revenue and donations from members. Members are not so much crowd funding as they are donating toward the upkeep of the site. So its very unlikely any public voting will take place - plus such a thing would be an utter nightmare to organise. Which is not to say the membership won't get its say, nor that they cannot raise questions and request change, but that the members cannot dictate to the owners of the site. Same as pretty much any forum out there on the internet.
  19. Daughters of Khaine - Melusai kit has a single arm with a little winged wyrm wrapped around it. Tyranids - Termagaunt kit has a base of 3 rippers per box (yes rippers count darn it!). Foregeworld also has a ripper base and winged rippers Tyranids - Biovore kit has a set of sporemines, you can also get them separate in their own kit (yes sporemines count too - they do) - finecast Eldar - Triumvirate of Ynnead - comes with a gyrinx (cat - lynx size). Necromunda - several individually sold beasties, currently only the sumpkroc is released, but each gang is expected to get at least one. There's also a couple of mechanical dogs in the mercenaries on foregeworld (all forgeworld)
  20. Yep plus its a very solid core to build from. Heck get 2 and you've mostly got the beginning I've steadily been picking up. About the only thing missing is the Doomfire Warlocks, which with the savings you could pick up 15 of them (3 packs) with that £65. Which is also ignoring any further savings if you get the box from a 3rd party retailer. There's no waste in the box what so ever (to be fair Daughters is a small army range so there really isn't even room for any waste - even the less ideal options are still good choices).
  21. Set in the Realms is fairly sensible though as the AoS isn't a world but is various Realms. I'd wager that GW will keep the realm system; it lets them have so much freedom to create and add things as they want. Yes they need to map and flesh it out more and honestly it needs a big overhaul to push Chaos back so that every map isn't just Chaos Chaos Chaos (which is steadily happening). I think getting rid of Realms would be a mistake, there's too much tied up in them both in the current lore and in the historical lore and in the gameplay mechanics. Perhaps one day in the distant future they could recombine, but I think GW needs to let a lot of dust settle and let AoS mature before they do that again. Last thing they want is to retcon huge swathes of lore that is only just getting itself properly established.
  22. There's rumour flitting around and I think one short story/battletome story that states that there's at least one natural birth site now in the Realms. Ergo that we might well see the Lizardmen return as a living evolving force rather than as remembered superwarriors from the magics of the Slaan.
  23. Early Battletomes do need a reworking, but I'd agree that I'd rather see GW reinforce the lines that don't have them yet, give them a secure future and then go back and remake older battletomes. If you're already collecting those armies you know they are as safe as can be within the range. It's those without any tome that are on shaky ground as to what their future might or will be.
  24. Destruction is in an iffy spot because for years many of its factions were the mindless boogymen of the classic fantasy world - ergo the generic evil. AoS has Chaos take that position so Destruction is sort of in an odd spot; however its ripe for them being able to flesh them out with far more lore and stories tht focus around them and showing another side to make of the ork clans and such. Also I should note in my post above about Daughters of Khaine - they do rush forward to bring the fight to the enemy, but they don't rush forward blind. You have to balance the need to get into combat fast with the need to get the charge not be charged; so there can be some crafty dancing and movement planning. they are certainly not a mindless army to use
  25. Daughters of Khaine are fast - their entire army is basically built around the concept of the alpha strike. That is them charging into battle and getting the first round of damage/attacks on the enemy. Even their ranged units are half ranged half close combat and would be just as happy in either role; they are closer to skirmishers that will charge forward whilst firing and then get stuck into the close combat too. They are a bit more fragile, though they have some tanky options/builds. By and large they are not like, say, Stormcast who can weather loads of attacks and be more defensive. Daughters rush forward and bring the battle right to the enemy. Khinari are quite fragile, however they deploy from off the table and are ideal for grabbing an ignored objective late game; contesting a weakly held one and for ganging up on isolated heroes/archers/siege weapons or for supporting your other units by rear/flank attacking the enemy. When you think of daughters think of a glass-dagger - its close combat focused and deadly sharp, but its going to shatter if you use it wrong.
